FOR PERFORMING ARTS

Dear Friends, Welcome to the 17/18 Season! We are thrilled to present many of the world’s most iconic artists on the Lied Center stage this year. The biggest Broadway lineup in Lied history includes THREE Tony Award®-winning Best Musicals (The Sound of Music, Kinky Boots and Jersey Boys) in addition to the most recent Tony® winner for Best Musical Revival, The Color Purple. World-class performers in music, theater and dance will perform throughout the season, while also providing transformative educational outreach in classrooms across the state of Nebraska! A monumental collaboration we have been working on for several years with American Ballet Theatre and the St. Louis Symphony will be the season’s artistic highlight and comes to fruition over two nights February 16–17. In fact, the Lied Center is the only venue in the world to present these two incredible organizations in collaboration this year, and we know it will be a performance audiences will remember forever. Growing our position as one of the nation’s leading classical music presenters continues this season by hosting the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra with pianist André Watts for the first time since 1999 while also presenting three Gold Medalists of the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in solo recitals! As a season ticket holder, you enjoy the best prices and seating for your favorite performances, and our flexible “create your own season ticket” allows you to pick exactly the shows you want to attend. Thanks to the Lied’s free ticket exchange program for season subscribers, you can exchange your tickets for a different season event with no exchange fee if you find your schedule changes after you purchase season tickets. Beyond up to 20 percent off individual ticket prices, you also reduce ticket fees by as much as 80 percent through your season order. When you add up the savings, it is like receiving an entire event for free! Beyond the stage, the Lied Center impacts the lives of thousands of young people each year with interactive arts education programs. As you complete your season ticket order, please consider joining the Friends of Lied with a tax-deductible contribution to assist us in sustaining these artistic programs and maintaining Nebraska’s “Home for the Arts.” Best wishes, and we look forward to seeing you this season at the Lied. “IT WAS AMAZING TO INTERACT WITH SOMEONE WHO WAS ONCE IN MY POSITION AS AN ARTS STUDENT, AND WHO NOW HAS HAD SUCH AN IMPACT ON THE THEATRICAL COMMUNITY. IDINA MENZEL IS AN ABSOLUTELY INSPIRING ARTIST, AND I’M SO GRATEFUL TO THE LIED CENTER FOR THIS ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY.” - UNL student following a meet and greet opportunity with Idina Menzel

Beyond the stage, Lied Center artists enrich the lives of Nebraska students in life transforming master classes, Q&A sessions, workshops and more. The Lied Center requests that every artist shares their expertise with students during their time in Nebraska. Imagine being a musical theater student having the opportunity to interact with Broadway star Idina Menzel or an aspiring orchestral musician participating in a master class led by Boston Pops Conductor Keith Lockhart. These are just two of the countless opportunities afforded to UNL students over the past two and a half decades. During the 16/17 season, the Lied Center facilitated engagements with artists including Dick Cavett, the Canadian Brass, MOMIX, the Boston Pops, pianist Lucas Debargue and cast members from some of the most celebrated shows on Broadway including MAMMA MIA!, Into the Woods and Cinderella, among others. Becoming a member of the Friends of Lied makes magical moments like these happen. Will you help us continue to bring life-changing moments like these to Nebraska students? Learn more about joining the Friends of Lied at liedcenter.org. “LUCAS WAS A VERY PASSIONATE AND ARTICULATE ARTIST, AND THAT INSPIRED ME!” - UNL student following a master class with pianist Lucas Debargue

“THEY WERE SO FULL OF KNOWLEDGE AND CHARISMA. THEY COULDN’T HELP BUT SPREAD JOY AROUND.” - UNL student following a vocal master class with Sandy Hackett’s Rat Pack Show
