Hi, I’m Lieketseng Lerato Tlali, and when I grow up I want to
be a designer. I look forward to a career in design that will be rooted in both environmental and human context, and created to serve - not only presently, but with longevity and sustainability at the core of this service. I’m keen to make great strides in understanding the ways in which research and innovation can create empowering experiences and demonstrative solutions.

KITCHEN REMODEL / Self directed project to design the full kitchen layout and scheme for the home of Ms Bale, my mother, in Maseru, Lesotho. The current kitchen layout provides little preparation space and minimal storage space. My design proposal seeks to make the most use out of the square meters in the L-shaped room with the purpose of providing ample preparation and storage space for the client, while also incorporating modern kitchen specifications and styling to create a contemporary yet homely look and feel.

EXHIBITION / Travelling exhibition stand which promotes the Zeitgeist (the ‘now’). This project interprets tolerance and acceptance as the Zeitgeist of our age. The exhibition stand is titled ‘Flawed’, and aims to promote Body Positivity in revolt of the unrealistic body image standards in mainstream media and popular culture. By creating a space where the unattainable ideals of perfection surrounding body image are stripped down, the exhibition seeks to reveal to its patrons a much more diverse depiction of themselves.

The concept is for the exhibition to showcase life-size three dimensional artworks of the human form. The
sculptures will be curated and/or commissioned from
different artists and across different regions of the world with the intention of showcasing diverse interpretations and depictions of human beings. The intention is to
exhibit life size sculptures in a setting where they can
be navigated amongst and interacted with, in hopes of
providing the viewers with a sense of representation and positive affirmation.

DESIGN ANALYSIS “IMPERFECT” ARCHITECTURE Research on forms of architecture that embrace imperfection led me to Glitch Architecture which celebrates the digital state and aesthetics of glitch artefacts - ruined, unwanted, not recognised and accidental. I applied the idea of a digital glitch to a cube in order to form the facade of the exhibition.

MICROAPARTMENT / As property prices become increasingly unattainable and major cities become more crowded, affordable living spaces have begun to shrink and single resident microapartments that range between 14m2 to 32m2 have already become commonplace in cities such as Hong Kong and San Francisco. The project brief is to develop designs for a 25m2 microapartment in London. The dimensions of the apartment are: 3600mm (W) x 3600mm (D) x 7200mm (H). Exterior walls are 200mm. The windows and entrance must be situated on the short sides of the plan. The layout must contain a bathroom, a kitchen, and sleeping & living
spaces. The design must be based on one of the persona’s provided.

open. By placing the internal walls at the entrance of the apartment, the maximum
amount of light will be allowed to flood the space from the windows situated at the other end of the apartment.
FLOOR LEVELS
ZONE B of the apartment will serve as a mutli-use space for both the living and
sleeping areas. Creating a mezzanine above the living space will accommodate the sleeping space, thus making use of the 3600mm ceiling height of the apartment.
To further take advantage of the ceiling height, a slight split level is created between

the entryway and the living space, allowing the entryway to serve as a mudroom and also become an alcove that reveals the full width of the space.
COOKING AND DINING
ZONE C of the apartment will serve as the Kitchen and Dining area. As the zone that will be in most use, the kitchen and dining will be placed beneath the windows and enjoy the light as well as the city views from the apartment.
