A 70s-Inspired Style Shoot

This style shoot was born out of the retro resurgence the wedding industry has seen over the past few years. As the theme developed, the creative team realized they were incorporating some boho elements that blended beautifully into this shoot as well. While the colors leaned more toward the neutral side to elevate the boho feel, they still brought in a splash of vibrancy. “The colors we selected echoed fun, flirty and romantic, which is exactly what we envisioned!” Kensie Son, one of the shoot's photographers, gushes. Though the elements of the shoot were kept simple, we love the groovy look that the team pulled off—especially with the fun touch of the disco balls!

WHAT WE love

That dress is the perfect style for this vintage shoot! The bell sleeves make it look like it's right out of the 1970s. We adore the lacy details and how they blend the retro look with the boho vibes, and the leg slit on the dress makes it modern and flirty! Hair can be such a statement piece, and this bride has a fabulous and fun half-up style that works wonders with this shoot.

When Susan and Andrew got engaged, they made sure to hire an excellent planner to help them solidify their vision for their wedding day. Together with Hannah of Design the Day Events, they settled on creating a modern springtime garden wedding with flowers to spare! The couple carried this theme of nature into several moments of the day including a custom save-the-date illustration and in their first look, complete with surprise falcon photo-ops! One of our favorite details in Susan and Andrew's wedding day is her stunning floral dress that blends perfectly with the yellows, reds and blues of their color scheme.

WHAT WE love

The Indianapolis Public Library offers many unique spaces in one to host your perfect wedding! With their ceremony held in the magnificent Simon Reading Room and the reception in the glass-encased Atrium, Susan and Andrew were able to get both elegance and whimsy for their garden celebration. We just love the way the natural light highlights their reception beautifully!

Bold Summer Love

AN ELEGANT, COLORFUL STYLE SHOOT INSPIRED BY GREECE

Wanting to show off an up and coming venue (even if it wasn’t quite finished at the time!), this creative team collaborated to bring a summery style shoot together with fun pops of color. Inspired by things seen in Santorini, Greece, they wanted to contrast a deep blue shade with bright oranges and pinks. One of the most important details was finding the right florals for this shoot, as you can’t have summer without fresh blooms! To keep the shoot balanced, a simple yet elegant gown with sleek lines was selected for the bride.

WHAT WE love

A place where you can see the artful balance of these colors is in the beautiful three-tiered confection from Classic Cakes. The pale blue frosting is the perfect shade to contrast the bright orange and pink flowers. And we love the attention to detail in the delicate white blooms!

We chatted with Cayla Johnson, Social Media and PR Manager of Becker's Bridal who shared her guidance and top five tips for making the journey of finding your dream wedding dress a more enjoyable and stress-free experience!

Do your Research

"It's important to do a little bit of research as you begin your dress shopping journey! Not only is it important to learn about what the industry standard is for items such as pricing and production timelines, it's important to find a shop who you can trust. Reading reviews and asking your friends and family about their own personal experiences can greatly benefit you as you decide where to shop!"

Decide What to Bring

Manage Expectations

"Oftentimes, brides WILL fall in love with a gown while shopping, so managing the expectation of 'I may be leaving with a gown either in hand or on order' will be helpful in terms of financial preparation. It's industry standard to have purchases be final sale, so being prepared to place a deposit is helpful. It's also very helpful to not 'stack' dress shopping appointments because it can quickly feel like work rather than enjoyment/excitement!"

"Because this is often the first 'big' moment of your engagement season, women often feel inclined to include everybody who may be at some point involved in the wedding; however, we recommend the 'less is more' mentality. Bringing the voices and opinions that matter the most to you during the appointment will help keep the appointment focused on what's important to YOU. When there are too many people's opinions, it can become confusing and less enjoyable. Plus, there will be several opportunities to include other ladies along the engagement journey!"

"We recommend bringing some basics to prepare you for the appointment. Photo inspiration from either our website 'wish list' feature, our social media platforms and/or your Pinterest board are super helpful at the start of the appointment. Your stylist can help guide you in finding these styles and deciding whether or not you like them! Also, wearing neutral colored undergarments will help avoid distractions and a hair tie/clip is always helpful, too! Wearing clear deodorant and no body makeup is encouraged as you'll be trying on several sample gowns that one day might become somebody's 'yes' dress."

Decide Who to Bring Trust Yourself

"Our final piece of advice is to trust in yourself! You've been doing it your entire life and it's what has led you to become engaged, in one way or another. When dress shopping, trust yourself! You'll know what gown makes you feel beautiful, bridal, excited and most importantly, YOURSELF!"

Garden Romance

A REGAL STYLE SHOOT IN CARMEL, INDIANA

When the idea for this shoot was first born, the vision was to create a garden wedding scene that was romantic with a classic feel. The main focus of the creative team was to bring in plenty of different textures to fill the space. Since this wedding was taking place with natural beauty around it, the team decided to play off neutral colors like green and ivory. They also chose to incorporate some wooden details such as the chairs. Wanting a minimalist, monochromatic feel to the décor, this group of vendors brought together plenty of green elements like the tablecloth and plates. The classic style of the shoot can be seen in the crystal glasses and the elegance of the venue!

WHAT WE love

Despite the two different bridal looks, there was actually only one perfect dress used in this shoot! When the shoot’s planner, Amber, walked into the bridal shop and saw this flowing gown with puffy sleeves loaded with floral details, she knew it was ‘the one’. The versatility of the sleeves is what really sold her, as they could transform the dress into a completely different look for the reception!

The Vision

Beth Waterman, owner of Beth Waterman Photography, Ivory by Design and Ivory Foundry Weddings & Events has always been inspired by maximalist design for weddings. “I simply love maximalism. It is one of my favorite categories of décor, and I have always wanted to put together a shoot in the maximalist style,” Beth shares. “When I saw the Pantone Color of the Year, I KNEW I had to do it.” The vibrance and beauty of magenta coupled with a modern-vintage twist is what created the vision for our stunning cover shoot.

The Venue

While there are many reasons that Ivory Foundry Weddings & Events was the perfect venue for this shoot, the concrete wall and the natural light that streams through the large windows in this space sealed the deal! Not only did the lighting allow for Beth Waterman Photography and Clark Videography to capture our shoot with a dreamy glow, it also made the various shades of pink pop in the décor without becoming jumbled or lost in the maximalist design. And we love the juxtaposition of the industrial cement texture with the natural touches of the climbing floral display!

The Florals

No magenta design would be complete without flowers in every shade of pink, especially when you are planning a maximalist shoot! The team did not hold back when planning the florals of this shoot. As the planner, Ivory by Design conceptualized the design and décor in our lavish shoot. Beth explains, “We used a very large variety of flowers but stayed within the luxury silk style with live greenery. We wanted to highlight a type of floral that has for years had a stigma of being a cheap option and showing how stunning they can truly be.”

The Decor

In a shoot that is so full of color and details, the tablescape is a spot of balance in this maximalist shoot. There are plenty of floral details, but the white table and crystal glasses keep the table from being over-the-top. We love the contrast between the bright base and the dark charger plates as well. All of these were in-house rentals from Ivory by Design that were perfect for this shoot in color and theme!

The Looks

“The Frock Bridal has so many unique and modern gowns to choose from that it was difficult to narrow it down,” Beth raves. The first gown was a beautiful marriage of the vintage and modern themes the team was channeling. The second gown was a playful way to end the night! As for the bride’s hair and makeup, Simply Blue knew that they needed to style a look that would transition easily from one vibe to the next. They decided to highlight our model’s natural beauty with a half-up-half-down hairstyle, showing off her gorgeous hair and a stunning smokey eye and natural lip shade!

The Stationery

The invitation suite from PSR Designs is absolutely perfect for this shoot! We love the mix of different shapes in various shades of pink that tie in the playful side of the rest of the design.

The Cake

Last but not least, this opulent cake is to die for! Beth gushes, “There are not words for how stunning the cake turned out! I only gave Classic Cakes our keywords of ‘maximalism’ and ‘magenta’ and gave them free reign to come up with a unique design, and boy, did they knock it out of the park!” This four-tiered cake brings a little bit of everything that ties beautifully into the rest of our shoot, and we absolutely love the extravagant display it sits in!
