It is okay to fear, but it’s not ok when that fear defines you. So we’ve heard and so we’ve been told. But experiencing it and living with it is another thing all together.

Life can be cruel, but it also gets more beautiful when you learn and grow through the challenges.

It’s possible to create your own paradise by picking what is around you - just remember that everything takes time, and sometimes time can take everything from you. Don’t despair. Keep pushing and design your own dreams. Being weird and different means you are rare and special. So rehears your narrative well and expect both positive and negative critics. Routine means death in growth, therefore explore even further.

Hi, my name is Tmack, the editor and founder behind The Foreigner.

Why the foreigner?

First and foremost, I’m a foreigner in Denmark, second and perhaps the most important, is that, The Foreigner is a magazine aimed at inspiring foreigners not just in Denmark but all over the world to dream even bigger. In this country, you have to work ten times harder for you to be recognized. Therefore, the foreigner will be featuring foreigners who are working hard to achieve their dreams and inspire others to do the same - and more. I love to call them Beautiful people with scars. Scars are intriguing.

On our first issue I share with you some of my passion in creative writting and photography.

The afternoon leading to Lucy’s husband death was probably the most alive Lucy had felt ever since her best friend’s death.

Lucy had met Micheal in a plane from Austria to Zambia after attending the burial of her best friend Mia, who died after a fatal ski ing accident. Her life had been shut and shattered in pieces she wasn’t sure she’d be able to gather up again until Michael happened.

Michael had treated her to interesting adventures. They laughed hard, They were vulnerable with each other, shared beautiful and intimate conversations most of them only known to them. However they shared a questionable chemistry. Though they both maintained that they were just friends, Lucy knew too well that the phrase “just friends” was a distraction line to many. For two months, they kept their friendship going, conversing about their innermost troubles, fears, joy, memories, and future expectations.

They lived the moment, but perhaps not conscious enough to know that reality stood by the corner, waiting for them.

“She had shared a glorious morning with him, laying naked on the bed enjoying some warm croissants, sprinkled with honey and wild berries. The room smelled of home made brewed coffee and mahagony from the exotic funitures. They had made love countless.. ” Michael was on the way to single hood after separating from his wife of seven years. He owned an international shipping company and a fitness center which explained his features. Having fathered no children, Michael was having the best of his life, as if he was trying to make up for lost time. Lucy, on the other hand, was supposed to be happily married, and just about to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, as well as fashion and design. She was blissful but troubled. She adored her husband even though they had wild fights. She had told Michael of how she had met the love of her life, what she loved about him, and why she believed he was her soul mate.

She was constantly overwrought that she looked fragile to most people and therefore walked around ready to defend herself whenever the need arose. She was kind and had a big heart. Lucy wanted to save the whole world by every minute; she was the kind of woman who wanted to accomplish everything she set her mind too. Full of compassion, love and always had the best of everyone’s interest at heart, which she probably took a little too serious than necessary.

As a matter of fact, this part of her personality took her down hard and jagged and the loss of her best friend only made things worse.

Her husband had found the best person to help her out of her misery, to which she willingly obliged to attend counselling and practice meditation. It was hard to tell when she was breaking, because she had mastered the art of acting to hide her inner discontent.

Her friends and family perceived her as in fine feather and agile, and only a few asked how she was fairing. She was simply something “you “ my reader, have seen or experienced yourself.

Lucy, her sister Linsey and her two brothers Jade and Jude were born and raised in Austria with African roots in Zambia. Her beautiful mother Ms.Victoria had moved to Austria at the age of 22 to pursue her designing skills on a scholarship ticket where she later married and settled in Austria.

On the fateful day, Michael was driving Lucy home from a lunch date with two of her good friends. Zambia was her second home, and Michael’s new business breeding ground. Lucy hoped to set Michael on a date with one of the girls but Michael seemed uninterested and avoided eye contact with any of the two girls, living him to stare either at Lucy or the roof whenever their eyes locked.

On the back seat, lay her Channel purse, Michael’s Polo sweater and water in what looked like the fanciest water can ever known to Lucy. She reached out for it, misrecollecting that she actually meant to reach for her purse and ring her husband, with whom she had planned to discuss dinner plans with.

Nevertheless, just as she was about to ask where Michael had gotten the water can from, she noticed some movements under his sweater, that lay by her purse with one side touching the customized Maserati Granturismo Convertible Sport designer mat.

She gave a quick chilling shoulder shrug . “ mmhhh! I thought I saw something move underneath your sweater” Lucy let out a wild laughter to her imagination “creepy, you need some rest before you start hallucinating and cracking up on me” Replied Michael as they both busted out in laughter.

Another ten minutes drive, and Lucy’s phone vibrated from behind. She cursed out loud as she remembered her husband “shit... I forgot to call him” Just as she was about to grab her purse, she noticed a black silver coil almost moving towards the floor. Confirmations of whether or not it was indeed a dreadful reptile was not a matter of discussion. She screamed out loud, causing fright to other motorists as her sharp voice scraped through the open Maserati Granturismo. Michael pulled over faster and breakneck, sweeping a hip of dust with him as the car skid and came to a halt. Lucy jumped out, shattering and gasping for breath “snake, snake OMG I almost touched it” She staggered around in confusion while Michael tried to find a tool from the trunk to remove the venom snake. When Lucy caught a clear glimpse of the deadly reptile, she threw up, she tried to keep more from hurling up by one hand while the other hand suppoted her agonizing ribs. As she tried to excuse herself from the emerging onlookers. A shaken and flustered Lucy dropped to the ground and let out her expensive lunch uncontrollably.

Michael was now by her side with the fancy water can as he rubbed her back to ease the rib pain from vomiting. She had managed to calm herself down and was more alive thanks to the contents in the fancy can. As she slowly stood up, recovering but trembling from her qualms, she noticed something lifeless from a distance in the nearby bush. She drew closer as she thought that a wild animal had been caught in a trap. It was not news to find a trapped gazelle or Warthog along the bushes bordering a nearby park.

Lucy and her husband had made it their duty to rescue the poor creatures. They had purchased a four-acre piece of land in Zambia next to one of Zambia’s game reserves, from an older couple who both happened to be diagnosed with cancer. The two Jimmy and Rose had decided to move back to America to seek befitting medical treatment, or according to Lucy “rest in their motherland”.

Lucy had just found her husband’s dead body, minutes after they pulled off the road, escaping a snake on the back seat. She had seen her husband that morning and had informed him that she was going to meet her two friends, but not with Michael along.

She had shared a glorious morning with him, laying on the bed naked, enjoying some warm croissants, sprinkled with honey and wild berries. The room smelled of home made brewed coffee and mahogany from the exotic funitures. They had made love countless times leading up to the morning, swimming in thier own juices as a jungle background tune played on calm radio. She had enjoyed seeing his naked body only by the sun rays peeping through the window. They clapped back and forth, as they, exchanged warm kisses and breathed in, each other’s air.

Their sweat radiated more pleasure as they moaned and grinned their teeth on each other’s flesh. Laughing on his chest whenever he whispered in her ear. She bowed to every touch and reciprocated with delight. She saw the world with clarity,there was nowhere else she would rather be but here, loving and being loved. Bradly was not her first love but he was the only man that took her to galaxy. He adored her and she cherished him deeply.

Their fingers matched as their lives did. He was hers and she was his. He had told her that they needed to discuss their vacation plan that evening over dinner. And she had told him that she wanted no graduation party, but just dinner or lunch with family and close friends.But now, her husband lay dead in broad daylight. Found by her, escaping a snake on her way back to her five-year matrimonial home. Nothing made sense! Suddenly Lucy’s life turned into nightfall!

“What abominable movie, what sick humor, what incubus nightmare? If anyone thought this was funny, then they ought to be the most evil person alive” A broken and disoriented Lucy wondered to herself as she woke up in a hospital bed where a man in uniform stood by the door. She was feeble and delicate, flimsy and sickly from crying. There was no one in the room except a nurse seated by the corner reading some kind of a journal. She motioned meekly and the nurse came by her side immediately.

“Has anyone been notified? Is my husband dead? He looked in pain when I saw him” He looked cold and pale, helpless and frail. she only got answers for one question, when the man in uniform suddenly summoned her sister and brother in law in the room, accompanied by a mid age man in a suit. Her attorney, a name she had become accustomed to from watching the popular law suit program SUIT. The morning after, the newspapers read “Perfect Crime” Woman has her husband murdered to marry tycoon business man. In another newspaper “Mystery murder, as Wife finds husbands body by the roadside after pulling over when she and her lover found a snake in the car?

This was her new title, husband murderer, lover to Micheal. Bloggers referred to her as the smart killer. On a local channel, the story was televised as sorcery. “How will I ever regain my dignity? My reputation and how will I ever explain Michael to anyone”. Her family adored her husband. Her husband’s family loved and trusted her immensely. Bradly was everyone’s favorite. “Ooh God Mrs Walker” she felt sorry for her mother-in-law. Bradly, came from England, born in a family of four brothers, he was the youngest. He was a man of his word, a charmer and his mother’s son and protector. His family was shattered, torn for luck of better words. and now they needed and demanded the truth. Lucy’s dignity was in question.

The only dignity Lucy had left was her heart. The truth known to her, that she had nothing to do with her husband’s death. Nevertheless, knowing the truth, made her sicker to the stomach, as no one was ever going to have closure. At least not the one they were looking for. She was not permitted to leave her home and was only granted, minimal guests. She had not seen Michael since the dreadful day and he had not called. “Maybe he was’nt allowed to,” she thought.

“Could he have killed my husband and planted that snake in the car?” “How did he know I would go near the bush? How did he…”

She yelled in pain. “Would it have mattered if I found the body or not”. Nothing made sense, not even her own questions. “Ooh God why, why him, he had no enemies, what did I do?” She broke down again, probably for the tenth time in the second day aside from being hysteric that led to several panic attacks.

She had called for a meeting with her family members and had told them the truth and nothing but the truth. She had tried not to cry to which she failed miserably. She did not want sympathy; neither did she want to buy it. There was no reason to. She had seen the look on their faces. They wanted the truth but even when they got it, it did not seem enough. She had told her husband’s family that they could keep all the money and assets if that could ease their feeling of betrayal.

On the first court date, Lucy and Michael locked eyes for the first time again. He was helpless when he saw how frail and deplorably she was. He knew that she had nothing to do with it.

He told the jury that, he would not be surprised if the world termed him as a monster. However, he begged the same world to believe that Lucy could never hurt anyone yet alone her husband. She was probably the most sweetest and most loyal person he had met in a long time. He assured the court and Lucy’s family that he and Lucy had not shared a kiss yet alone a bed.  He confessed for the first time before the world and Lucy that he wished that she was his. But he also knew that Lucy was in love with her Husband. He respected and adored her personality. He continued to say that, he was happy to know that Lucy looked at him as a loyal friend. She could tell him anything and he could in return tell her anything. Something they both loved about their friendship. Lucy had once told him that they were both screwed up, hence their immediate bonding.

Lucy had told the same court that she was aware that the world would always look at her differently from that day forth and so just like Michael, held nothing back. They spoke no evil about each other and she to maintained that though she had doubts and questions about Michael after that fateful day, she knew deep down that he was equally innocent.

After police completed their investigations and a comprehensive report presented before the magistrate. The world seemed to adjust. In no time, the jury set both Lucy and Michael free after police findings showed no involvement from either of their side.

Bradly turned out to be a victim of a robbery gone wrong. Soon after Lucy left home that morning. Three men, two of them now serving life sentences, and the other, six feet under from heavy wounds inflicted during an exchange of firearms in another robbery. The three managed to cut-off an electric wire, sneaking into his office where he was busy looking into vacation packages in Maldives.

He was forced to produce money that he assured them he did not have, except for a few dollars in his wallet. He begged for his life, as he was mercilessly tortured. Narrated one of the two men in court. A teary and worn out Lucy listened to one confession after another that somehow gave her keys to her freedom.

Bradly who just celebrated his 40th birthday, offered the three men all the expensive assets in the house to which they had started collecting when suddenly one of the men who also happened to be the youngest, suddenly shot him through the chest.

They had used a stolen vehicle to drive off from the homestead and dumped his body a thousand meters from the house, after sweeping clean their tracks in the office, and a handful of jewelries,in thier possession. The young man, 20-year-old Andy had told the court in one of the hearings that he did not intend to kill him and had only meant to scare him when the gun went off.

The said gun lay before Lucy, Micheal and the world on a rough metal table in the court room, along with the bullet retrieved from Micheal’s body. The magistrate a woman in her early 40s, showed no emotions, nor did the prosecutor or the defender. It was like this was just a normal day, another job that needed to be done.

Another gig to make the day. But to Lucy, one bullet, one day, one mistake, one trigger, one man, Michael was no more and Lucy’s life was engraved on a black stone.

Lucy might have gotten a shred of her life back. She may have kept a huge fortune from her marriage and somehow kept her friendship with Michael alive. However, the world still gazed at her with side eyes, smiled with a frown and talked in whispers knocked her often with silence. The Perfect Crime is how the world remembered her husband. Some still asked questions, they termed it as a well-calculated move. One journalist in the investigative department said, “Feels like it was just too smooth, too good, well masterminded and executed, what can you possibly call it, Perfect Crime” In the years to follow, she moved back to Austria. A small country with small goings, but has a lot to offer. Her country of birth and where no one looked at her contradictorily. Michael visited her whenever he could. She lived there mostly but she still loved enjoyed Zambia. It was there that her and her husband’s memories lay.

Lucy now leaves with her four dogs, three cats that she acquired with Bradly and her adoptive son Malek.

With the love of her life murdered, her best friend gone and “I can’t explain Michael to anyone” Quiet lonely you might think! Certainly not. Lucy learned to adjust her new crown, and many wished to understand it or perhaps read the mantra.
