2021 RESOLUTION FITNESS
Use the Maxwell and Gunter Fitness Centers to get in a safe workout If you can’t make it to the gym, look for the Facebook Live fitness programs offered each week. The Wellbeats app also offers fitness classes you can do at home. Look for the 3-week “Commit to Fit” Air Force challenge which includes a day-by-day schedule of workouts to complete for PT test prep. Wellbeats is available to all Air Force personnel and family members. Get the code for membership at www.lifeatthemax.us. Grab your shoes and hit the pavement for a walk or run. Invest in some weights for strength training at home. Build a routine this year and you’ll see results as you continue.

FINANCES
Maybe 2021 is the year for you to spend less and save more. The financial counselors at Airman & Family Resource Center can help you make a good financial plan for 2021. From budgeting, credit cards, investing, paying for college, and planning for retirement, the AFRC has specialists who can provide free counseling to help you maintain your finances. Make an appointment with Tonya or Roger by calling (334) 416-1386.
FAMILY & FRIENDS
Plan and cook a meal at home and eat together often. Make it interesting with table games and story starters. Make plans for an outside family outing every month. Go to the zoo, take a hike, visit a state park or go for a bike ride together! Stay in touch with your family and friends who don’t live near you, too. Use the tools we relied on in 2020, Zoom, FaceTime or even a phone call, e-mail or letter to catch up and share news.
FUN
Everyone is ready for new opportunities for fun in 2021. The Outdoor Recreation Office can help you with equipment for boating, camping, backyard games and other fun ideas this year. Schedule a weekend visit to Lake Martin or Mid-Bay Shores Recreation Areas this year. Both areas have great options for camping, swimming, fishing and more. Make reservations online at www.lifeatthemax.us. Plan to attend one of the Information, Tickets & Tours special offers this year. Fun day-trips are offered year round and are appealing for all interests If Disney or Universal are on your bucket list for 2021, visit the ITT office for discounted tickets and passes.

42FSS COMMANDER'S
thoughts Greetings Maxwell-Gunter Community, As the new Commander of the 42d Force Support Squadron, I am honored to serve you and the MaxwellGunter community. Montgomery has a special place in my heart as this is the third time calling the River Region “home.” My family and I share fond memories of our times here in Montgomery; I am excited to now lead the team that will create memories for you and your family. Coming back to Maxwell this third time is not like before, given the current public health emergency. The year 2020 has brought many uncertainties and challenging times, however in 2021, one thing that is certain… the 42 FSS is here for you! In 2021, my team and I look forward to bringing back “Life at the Max” to the “max” extent possible for the Maxwell-Gunter community, and to do this as safely as possible. This will mean the offering of programs and services in a different manner and/ or rolling out programs and services slowly to ensure the health and safety of everyone in the Maxwell-Gunter community.
NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS
3 FAMILY & FRIENDS
4 FUN
As we kick-off the New Year, join us when it comes to virtual events! Download the “Life at the Max” app and join our loyalty program to earn points towards FSS purchases. Additionally, I challenge you to join Josh, Shevon or Dewayne in virtual fitness workouts offered weekly. Make it a family affair as our Child and Youth Program is offering virtual classes and activities in science, technology, engineering, arts, math, as well as adventures across the world. The family or your unit can join us safely on the Golf Course to try out our new “Fling Golf” game (it is kid-friendly, too). Book getaways or spend the day at either Lake Martin or Mid-Bay Shores as an alternate family outing for fresh air, while social distancing. Lastly, squadron UNITE funds for 2021 are available which allow squadrons to participate in morale and team building events – connect with our UNITE POC for sociallydistanced options. We look forward to serving you into and throughout 2021! - Maj Jenny Stewart www.LifeAtTheMax.us | 5

PAYROLL TAX REPAYMENT Look for a change in your paycheck starting in January 2021. The payroll tax deferment implemented in September 2020 as a way to provide more take-home pay for military members and civilian employees will be repaid by starting in January. The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 was passed and extended the period for collecting deferred 2020 Social Security taxes. The period for collection is now January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021 (instead of January 1, 2021 to April 30, 2021). Civilian: Begin collections as planned with Pay Period End (PPE) 1/16/2021 and collected in even amounts over 24 pay periods ending with PPE 12/4/2021. Military (Active Component): Begin collections as planned with mid-month January and collect in even amounts over 24 payperiods (12 Mid-Month and 12 End of Month collections). Military (Reserve Component): Begin collections with the midmonth disbursement vs. the first pay run of the month; to be in alignment with Active Component and to ensure time for programming and testing in advance of collections. DFAS will collect at 2% of pay until the full deferral has been collected from the member. No changes are recommended for Separated Members. MILPAY, CIVPAY and NAF are moving forward establishing debts for separated members and ensuring that taxes are paid so that W-2s can be issued reflecting the accurate tax information. If you have any questions, please visit https://www.dfas.mil/taxes/ social-security-deferral/ or contact the Finance Office No federal endorsement of sponsors or advertisers is intended
