SWIM WITH THE DOLPHINS. It is our most popular ODR/ITT event every single year. You have an opportunity every single month this quarter to try this event. My daughter and I did this last year as a post Mother’s day celebration and it was an unforgettable time. Our group had the mother and baby dolphin duo and it was perfect. I’ve swam with dolphins on a few vacations, but I’ve never quite experienced the massive amount of direct interaction, education and actual swimming with the dolphins! They are phenomenal with little children. Although my daughter was excited, she was anxious, but the instructors were incredible with assisting her to comfortably swim with these majestic creatures. After a morning of swimming, we had the rest of the afternoon to feed stingrays, watch a sea lion show, and overdose on Icee Slurpees. We ended the evening with a beautiful sunset, searching for seashells, feeding ducks on a pier, and our tummies full after dinner. And because we rode the bus down with our wonderful FSS, we were able to nap all the way home. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity, please feel free to see our ODR/ITT folks. The rest of the quarter is jam-packed with events and activities. Mark your calendars for our annual Egg Hunt on April 6, our annual Month of the Military Child (MOMC) event on April 27, our May the 4th Be with You Tomorrow event on May 3 and be on the lookout for our annual SMILE Customer Appreciation giveaways in the month of June. It’s a large transition quarter with folks getting ready to move out and folks getting ready to move in. Please don’t hesitate to contact our A&FRC personnel if you need information about Maxwell AFB and the surrounding areas.

COVER STORY One great thing about being a military child is experiencing all the stuff that no one else gets to. The traveling every few years is an adventure into new situations that an ordinary kid might not have. You live in Alabama now, but in a few years, it might be across the country or even in another part of the world! Our youth here on Maxwell and Gunter excel in being our best supporters and bringing out the best in our military families. Join us in April where we say thank you and show how much we appreciate them! Special thanks to our cover photo kids: Jasmine Myers, Zyla Floyd, Ty Humphries, Brenden Perry Addison Peters.

April is Month of the Military Child
Some of our biggest supporters come in little packages, and it's time we give back. From the time they're born, our kids have been the pride and joy of what we stand for. They are the reason we get up and go to work, the reason we take family vacations to new places, and they bring smiles to our faces every time we come home. That's why we dedicate the entire month of April to celebrating our military kids and everything they do for us. Join Maxwell-Gunter AFB in wearing purple to show the combined forces of all different military branches. Our facilities across base are throwing their own celebrations to honor our kids and we'd love to see you there!

When these girls came together, it was all for different reasons. Some were encouraged by their friends, others wanted to try something new, or maybe they needed a reason to get out of the house. These 11 to 13-year-old girls took a chance at something new and created an amazing team under the direction of Coach Lee and Arielle Juarez. They entered the building with raw, unique talents that were honed with every practice they attended. When on the court, there's no time to second guess a decision or to have anxiety. In a split moment, someone can shoot for a basket or have the ball taken away. It's a time to let your talents show and to have everyone witness your teamwork. That's exactly what these girls did game after game. With every practice, they enhanced their skills. With every game they went through, they proved that they were the best. The Maxwell Eagles tasted victory in their very first game and kept it going until the end. One by one, over the course of ten matches, their opponents from Montgomery, Millbrook and Wetumpka fell. In the end, they ended their perfect season as the Greater Montgomery YMCA League Division Champions! Congrats to these amazing girls and their coaches on their victory!

"Just because a process is working, doesn't mean that it can't be improved."
CONTINUOUS PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
You always hear about making the workplace better, but what does it mean to improve that workplace? It doesn't necessarily mean getting better equipment or more employees. Sometimes, it's as easy as cleaning out your work area and clearing out the clutter. With Continuous Process Improvement (CPI), we're all about understanding the problem, finding the root cause, identifying and eliminating waste (non-value added), then fixing it. What's important is that you aren't cluttering your day with wasted time and resources as you attempt to complete your job. There are many ways to go about avoiding waste in your workplace. Start with cleaning your desk and making sure you have all of the tools you use in an easily accessible spot. After that, take the time to reorganize your desk or the computer system you work with - it shouldn't take five minutes looking for one file! Next, make sure you are coordinating with your coworkers on an efficient level. Just because a process is working, doesn't mean that it can't be improved. Look for waste in the following categories: Transportation, Inventory (excess), Motion, Waiting, Overproduction, Over-processing, and Defects (TIMWOOD). If there is a way to complete your task without wasting materials or time, it will benefit you, your customers, and your employees. Solving a problem at the root cause level helps the rest of the process and, therefore, the overall mission of the Air Force. Want to learn more about the

Increasing Customer Service at MPF It doesn’t matter if you’re enlisted or an officer, a spouse or dependent, GS, NAF or contractor, when you're associated with the military, having an ID is a must. Whether you’re renewing or you're new to having a base ID, there is only one place for you to go: the Military Personnel Flight. Even after being rated the best MPF in the Air Force for three quarters in a row, we are always looking to improve our business. That’s why over recent weeks, we’ve updated our services to help your day go more smoothly! First, let us introduce our newest Kiosk system. Once you enter the building, you'll be greeted by a new monitor where you'll sign in for a waiting list. The process couldn’t be easier! From there, you can see where you are in line compared to our other customers on our display. No more guesswork or delays, and you’ll be in and out before you know it. Don't forget to set a reminder to go to your appointment! However, we understand that sometimes the expiration date of your ID creeps up on you. It’s possible that there are no available appointments for you to sign up for before your ID expires. Therefore, for those in a time crunch, we've created walk-in hours just for you!

Want to start a career with the government and see yourself advance through the ranks? Visit nafjobs.org and pick from a variety of options available on Maxwell-Gunter AFB.
PRIORITY
PLACEMENT PROGRAM
For military spouses that are about to be transitioning or looking for jobs, we have an announcement for you. Beginning April 1, 2019, you will no longer have to visit the Human Resources Office to begin registering for occupations. You will also no longer be restricted to five occupations due to system limitations. In fact, we’re simplifying the process and eliminating wait time so you can hit the ground running at your new duty stations. The Priority Placement Program (PPP) is here to provide greater flexibility to spouses and understanding of your eligibilities within the military. All you have to do is complete the Military Spouse PPP Self-Certification Checklist which is found when applying to vacancy announcements via USA Jobs. From there, it’s as simple as writing up your resume and applying to jobs. Public websites such as Military OneSource or https://www.dcpas.osd. mil/EC/Advise will also provide a helpful PPP FAQ and Fact Sheet that will help you better understand the entitlements you have. After visiting these websites and reviewing the attached information, if you still have questions, please contact Diana Lewis or Michelle Walker at DSN 493-7339/ Com (334) 953-7339.

PCS TIPS > 01 > HIT THE GROUND RUNNING As soon as your orders come in, it’s important to begin a PCS binder to organize the steps you should take and what aspects you should be paying attention to. Be sure that you cover everything that needs to be looked over like finances, personal items, family, pets, or housing.
02 > KNOW WHERE YOU’RE GOING Once you know your next location, learn the culture if it’s overseas, find the closest school for the kids, and make sure you know the cost of living if you plan to stay off base. Maybe look into some of the local attractions or areas you'd like to visit. Don’t go in blind; know before you go!
03 > PREPARE FOR THE TRIP
Begin packing early! If there are non-necessity items, see if you can ship them out early. Ensure that your essential items don’t get packed by the movers and most importantly purge items you don’t need! Throw out old supplies or donate anything you no longer need to the Airman’s Attic.
04 > STAY POSITIVE
It might be a hard and difficult process, but there’s nothing for you to worry about. There are many resources and people who have your back. We are here to help you get to where you need to go. Just stay positive and consider this the next adventure in your life. You got this!

How can I be better at anticipating change? This is a great – and timely – question! Unfortunately, you can’t anticipate everything coming at you. Right now, you might be planning to PCS, or you could be gearing up for summer vacation or family events. To be better prepared for what you see – and don’t see – coming, think in small chunks of time. Open your calendar, find a notebook and pen, and answer a selfcoaching question: “30 days from today, what will I wish I’d started thinking about or working on sooner?” Your brain is designed to answer questions. So, ask that question and listen to the answer. Be better prepared to anticipate change by thinking just a little bit about the next month or two.
