God’s Word is clear. If we are part of His faith family, then this world is not our home. We live here, but we are different. We are outsiders. Exiles. We have been set apart. But why? As God’s chosen people, we live in His freedom and under His authority. He is our King. We are citizens of His Kingdom, no matter where we live. The ways of this world do not determine who we are or what we will do. Not the media. Not the latest trend. Not the popular philosophy. Not even your friends or the people around you. We have been set apart from all of those things. Before going to the cross, Jesus prayed that God would make us holy through His Word. He also prayed that we would not run away from a world that desperately needed Him, but that we would be noticeably different in order to make a difference. Christ prayed that God would protect us as He sent us into the world, setting us apart, so that others would see, hear, and believe in Him.

YOU ARE IN THE WORLD, BUT YOU ARE NOT OF THIS WORLD. And to be honest, God promises that our culture won’t like it when we don’t let it define us or let it tell us what to care about and live for. But He also promises that He is always with us. We are not alone. And no matter how it may look, He is in control. So we can trust Him.
HE’S CHOSEN YOU TO BE DIFFERENT AND TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. WILL YOU CHOOSE TO BE SET APART FROM THE WORLD YOU INHABIT? WILL YOU MAKE A HABIT OF BEING IN THE WORLD BUT NOT OF IT? Will you be an answer to the prayer of Jesus, our Lord, Savior, and King?
