Town’s new mayor
MTS
The new Mayor of Haslemere, Councillor William King, takes his place with Stephen Mulliner, the outgoing mayor; the new mayor’s wife Carole King (a Waverley Borough councillor); Melanie Odell (Deputy Mayor); and Sarah Mulliner. The new mayor, who has lived in Haslemere for 28 years, served for 25 years in the Army and then worked in the City for trade associations; he is a Past Master of the Worshipful Company of World Traders. The major’s charity this year is the Friends of Haslemere Hospital. His mission is “to bring benefit to the community as a whole”.

Bugs bunny
The latest addition to the Haslemere Rewards scheme is a giant rabbit, who has been a busy bunny since he hopped into town at Easter. Rabbit’s latest outing was at the Charter Fair on St George’s Day on 23 April. His role is to help promote the national award-winning loyalty rewards shopping scheme on behalf of Haslemere & District Chamber of Trade and Commerce — which now leads the scheme with support from Waverley Borough Council and the Haslemere Initiative. Get rewarded for shopping locally by visiting participating retailers in Haslemere. For more information about the everpopular Haslemere Rewards scheme, visit www.haslemere.com/rewards

We have introduced the green points system, where customers get a Clubcard point for every plastic bag they re-use. This is working very well. We have also started to print carbon footprint information about particular suppliers, so customers can see how ‘green’ a company is. How do you obtain feedback from your customers? We conduct in-store surveys as it is important to speak to people in person, plus use online questionnaires. These form an important part of feedback and help us to improve our overall service. Sun-kissed! The Life Magazines girls sampled VersaSpa sunless tanning at Tanning Level in Haslemere. The new spray tan machine is one of only 12 of its kind in the UK and was introduced at the Tanning Level and Nail Bar in Charter Walk in April. “It’s a great system because it provides you with an instant, natural tan. The process is quick, totally private and allows anyone of any age and skin type to use it,” says Jo Harris, proprietor. presentation and a fun casino and disco to round off the evening. President Simon Labrow said: “The quality of entries for the business awards and the enthusiasm shown by attendees at this enjoyable evening help to explain why Haslemere has such a fantastic range of shops and businesses. It is a pleasure and an honour to represent our members. They include all types of businesses, from small independent to national household names. Having just re-launched our website — which is at www.haslemerechamber.co.uk — and our new member’s pack, I am very pleased to be building on our success as a leading Chamber of Trade in the South East.”

Arnold’s, an independent family owned garage, was visited anonymously by the judges who were impressed by the service they received. Peter Tilson, Director of Arnold’s Garage, said: “We feel tremendously proud to have won the Customer Services Award. It is a wonderful
accomplishment and hopefully is a reflection of our aim to provide first class customer care with a friendly personal service. “The Haslemere Business Awards are a brilliant idea, and we would like to thank Haslemere Chamber for this recognition.
