the grid system 2011
Freedom in a Frame Is it framework? Is it furniture? Is it art? In effect, GRID is what you make it, because the potential is infinite. The simplicity and flexibility of GRID has been applied in exhibitions, installations, scenography, shelving systems, podiums, showrooms, shopfitting, benches and numerous other ways of structuring space. The basic module is the outline structure of a cube, open in all directions. A framework of 40x40x40 centimeters, formed by 12 millimeter frames, cast in recycled plastic. The frames are fitted with mounting holes, making it easy to assemble the modules in all dimensions. Plinths, sides, shelves and drawers in different materials add to the possibilities of creating versatile and complex structures. The GRID module even comes in an upholstered version for seating. GRID is designed by Peter J. Lassen, drawing on inspiration from numerous applications of the cube, from the building of the Egyptian pyramids to the functional scale models of architechts like Le Corbusier. GRID delimits, defines and generates rythm in an empty space, and as artists, architects and designers have explored its potential over time, GRID has proved and improved its usability in numerous projects.
