A Word from our Partners The French Community of Jakarta Responses to interviews conducted at the headquarters of L'Union des Français de l'Etranger (UFE), by Fitri, Ningsih and Soni, three Mozaik LP4Y members.
What do you do for LP4Y? Pascale Massy (Member of the French Parish and LP4Y promoter in the French Community): My husband and I are both supporting LP4Y, notably through donation. Whenever there is an event, we also try to do what we can to help. We try to speak a lot about this association in order to encourage it. Isabelle Gauthier (writer and cooking teacher at Jakarta Accueil, an organization that organizes activities for French speaking expatriates or Francophiles in Jakarta): What I do is connect people, because I know a lot of people in the French community. I am also searching for places for you to sell your jams like Jakarta Accueil or open houses. When you started your jam making activity, I also came with Patricia, the president of PER (Pour les Enfants de la Rue), to give you advice on how to make the first jars of jam.
Where did you learn about LP4Y and how do you help LP4Y? Yati Madnawidjaja (Member of PER (Pour les Enfants de la Rue), a French/Indonesian Jakarta-based charity that The youth collects funds for 5 lead the organizations working with interview children from 4 to 18 years they old): I heard about LP4Y through Aude (a former prepared volunteer). She asked me for with their advice about how to create a teammates yayasan1. I introduced her to a lawyer to do so. I also gave her some advice about accounting and at the beginning of the project, and I helped her acquire needed items such as tables. Françoise Pierredon (representative of the French Catholic Community of Jakarta): I met Aude who told me about your project. I decided to help LP4Y by painting the center with my children. It was a very good opportunity for my children to meet you and to get out of their comfort zone, where they live in a big house with an air-conditioning system and where they never paint! They were very happy about this experience and they would like to come back to lend a hand!

What do you think about LP4Y? Pascale: We think that LP4Y is an atypical project because, with very little money, you manage to help a lot of people. The youth gain work experience from the beginning until the end of the program, and this experience can help them become self-supporting. These two elements are very important for the youth’s success. For my husband and me, it was very interesting to go and meet the people from the LPC in Semper and look at what you are doing. Afterwards, it was easier for us to spread the word about LP4Y and encourage people to support you. Even when you know that a project is good, it is very important to meet the people and see it from your own eyes. Yati: I think LP4Y is a good organization because it helps young mothers and young ladies who have no opportunities to have a regular job to develop their own business. It helps Indonesian youth to be independent.
What do you think about the youth from LP4Y? Isabelle: I think that you are very nice and very smiley! What I like is that I can see you want to learn and that you are happy to learn. I think you understand that you have this chance to have a better life with LP4Y and that you go for it! You are young but you are fighting for your future.
What do you like about LP4Y? Françoise: First, what I want to say is that I admire you because you want to do something with your life. You want to change things and learn. I think that you have nice people to help you to achieve all this. Isabelle: In Indonesia, there are a lot of people who do not have the chance to go to school, to get an education or to find a job. LP4Y helps people with that. I consider myself lucky because I went to school and learned a job. I think it is very important to help others to have the same chance as I did. I also really appreciate helping the volunteers succeed in what they are doing because it’s so nice that these young ladies giving their time.
What do you want for LP4Y in the future? Pascale: As a French person, it is easy to ask the French community to support you. Therefore, what I wish is that the Indonesian people become more interested in this project and in the country's issues, and help people who are less lucky. Françoise: I want you to continue what you are doing at the moment, because you are making really good quality products. Maybe, you should develop new products? You are making cakes now, aren't you? Yati: I wish for all the members of LP4Y to become independent, to develop their own businesses. Work hard! That is the only advice I can give you to reach your dreams.
