WELCOME FROM LEADERSHIP Dear Friend, Who knew “Roaring Into the 20s” would be so challenging?

Dr. Maria Ducharme President The Miriam Hospital

For a second year in a row, the most unwelcomed party crasher ever, COVID-19, has forced us to abandon our plans to have an in-person gala and pivot to a virtual event. It’s the right decision—as ensuring health and safety always come first at The Miriam—but we’ll still miss all the hugs, handshakes, and high fives our annual get-together inspires. But rest assured, tonight’s virtual party will be fun and full of surprises. Most important, it will allow us to raise critical funds for the hospital we all love and our community counts on. Dollars raised from this year’s auctions and fund-a-need will support the creation of The Center for Innovative Cancer Research at The Miriam Hospital; we encourage you to wave those virtual paddles often this evening and thank you in advance for your generosity.

Susan H. Kaplan Chair The Miriam Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees

Nancy and Howard Safran, MD Event Chairs The Miriam Hospital Gala & Auction

We would also like to extend our deepest appreciation to tonight’s sponsors, including our title sponsor, Amica Mutual Insurance Company; presenting sponsors Brown Physicians, Inc. and University Orthopedics; and our platinum sponsors, Kathy Marsilius Bourque-Barbara Marsilius Link-Diane Marsilius Nicholls, Coastal Medical, and Med Tech Ambulance Services. Philanthropy remains the cornerstone of everything we do at The Miriam, and each gift we receive is an investment in the future of compassionate care, research, and medical education. So, on behalf of our entire staff, Foundation Board of Trustees, and event planning committees, we offer our heartfelt gratitude and thank you for being here—tonight and always. Have a great time!

ponsorship and ticket sales proceeds from this year’s gala will support The Miriam’s Greatest Needs Fund for a New Generation, which provides funding for programs and improvements at The Miriam Hospital that have the most crucial and pressing needs and which make The Miriam a special place of hope and healing. Dollars raised at this year’s auctions and fund-a-need will support the creation of The Center for Innovative Cancer Research at The Miriam Hospital—a warm, peaceful space designed exclusively for our cancer patients diagnosed with advanced illness, whose only hope is to participate in promising, investigational therapies. For patients receiving this news, travelling out of state and leaving one’s care team to access the latest treatments can be devastating. This project will ensure that does not happen. Join us! With your support, we will build the center at The Miriam and hire two specially trained research nurses who, with colleagues in palliative care, nutrition, and meditation will provide that extra level of support and compassionate care that is so vital to keeping our patient’s physical and psychological selves strong. Together, they will guide patients and families through their often-bewildering journey, which is marked with both hope and despair. We are forever grateful for the continued support of our donor community, which has helped make so many important, life-saving programs possible at The Miriam. On behalf of our staff and patients—we sincerely thank you.
