food revolution combining flavour and nutrition It’s the food combination everyone is looking for - healthy options that taste amazing. And Cafe Melzar, under the ownership of returning locals Melissa Illman and Valeri Tkatchenko, is providing just that with an amazing breakfast and lunch menu that incorporates both flavour and nutrition from the freshly made on site savoury and sweet delights. The couple bring with them a wealth of experience in hospitality, including a stint in Queensland, where the cafe culture was already offering menus that catered for a clientele that want to eat healthy or have special dietary

requirements, including gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan. “We wanted to bring that back to Mount Gambier and give the town what the major cities were already experiencing,” Melissa said. She is the chef, sourcing local organic produce and working her magic on ingredients that have minimal, if not, no chemical or preservative additives. “We’ve already locked in a couple of farmers locally and we really want that to be a focus,” Melissa said. Come summer, she will be introducing the raw food revolution to Mount Gambier with an extensive menu. “It is food prepared under 40 degrees and

that keeps all the nutrients in the fresh ingredients,” she said. “I even prepare raw treats - there’s no sugar or gluten but they’re amazing, you can enjoy food when it is good for you.” In reality, what Cafe Melzar is already offering is somewhat of a food revolution for Mount Gambier. All the meals and beverages are prepared using reverse osmosis filtered water, organic ingredients are the norm, and taking into account diabetic requirements and gluten and dairy intolerances are all part of most dishes on the Melzar’s menu, which provides a number of vegan options. “We want people to have choice, to

be able to come and eat with a group of friends and there be something for everyone on the menu, no matter what their dietary requirements or their tastes,” Melissa said. There are also protein shakes, kefir probiotic shots and on site roasted coffee. Valeri is the barista, with customers having a choice of organic blends, from the house blend to special blends the duo source from around the world, that change regularly. Melzar’s offers the usual selection of milk, as well as soy, almond, and rice and there is no surcharge regardless of milk choice. As well as catering for their dinein customers, Melzar’s

is also looking out for its take away clientele, working with a new app - Beat the Q. “You just go on your smart phone, order your take away drinks and coffee and when they’re ready to go, an alert is sent to your phone,” Melissa said. “It’s about saving people time and at our end it runs really smoothly.” So if organic vegan spelt pancakes drizzled with maple syrup and served with vanilla bean coconut cream and berries sounds enticing or locally baked toast with organic eggs, wood smoked bacon and avocado tempts your tastebuds then a Melzar’s breakfast could be just what the doctor ordered. And on the, lunch menu you can enjoy a sandwich of your own design or the fragrant chickpea curry, vegan shepards pie or classic BLT or club sandwich all with the Melzar’s twist. The Engelbrecht Lane cafe opens from 8am till 4pm, Monday to Friday, and next month will trial opening on Saturdays so check out their facebook page for more details. the community with pride

Glenelg Shire Council’s long serving staff were recognised at council’s Annual Staff Meeting Day late last month.Twentytwo staff members were recognised for their long service after reaching 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 or 35 years of service with the Glenelg Shire Council. The meeting commenced with a special presentation to acknowledge the long serving staff and the continued effort they have made in serving their community. Special recognition was given to Wayne Frost who this year has reached 35 years of service with council. Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr

Karen Stephens presented lapel pins to each of the long-serving staff, and said that the contribution made by all employees was greatly appreciated by councillors and by the community. “It is always impressive to see the breadth of services our staff deliver to the community,” Cr Stephens said. Council would like to thank the community for their understanding during the short closure of some council facilities while the meeting was in progress.

golf day back on agenda

Following the success of previous RFDS Golf Days, the Mount Gambier Support Team is again organising its annual Golf Day. This year’s event is to be held at the Attamurra Golf Course on Sunday, September 8, with a 10am meet for the 10.30am start. There will be an all day barbecue, drinks trolleys on the course, and afternoon tea, with the cost just $20 per person. The competition will be in the form of an ambrose 4-ball competition and only

one person in a team of four needs to be a golfer. Mount Gambier RFDS Support Group president Chris Driscoll said that local businesses have rallied behind the Golf Day and been very generous in sponsorship. All that is needed now are teams on the course to make the day a success and raise much needed funds to keep the Flying Doctor flying. Last year the event raised a total of $5100, which all went directly towards the costs of

purchasing and outfitting the RFDS planes. Golfers are encouraged to get a

team organised and enter to have some fun and maybe win a prize. Teams can be entered by ringing Chris Driscoll on (08)8724 9679 or 0419 033 918. The golf day is one of the major annual fundraisers for the hardworking Support Group in Mount Gambier, which last year raised more than $55,000. The RFDS supplies a vital service in the urgent transportation of patients to metropolitan hospitals for a higher level of care, including those needing life-saving surgery and pregnant mothers facing a difficult birth prognosis. Many accident victims owe their lives to the RFDS service, and it is a vital health service for all rural and remote areas. The RFDS planes flew into Mount Gambier approximately twice a day last year so it is important the community continues to support the events as it has done so generously in the past. The Support Group is hoping that the community will once again get behind the golfing day on September 8 and have a great day on the picturesque Attamurra Golf Course.

LOCAL Iconic

exhibition set to open

Final preparations for the “Anne Frank – A History for Today” exhibition in the Glenelg Shire were completed last week, with the official opening hosted by the Portland Arts Centre on Monday. Glenelg Shire Mayor, Cr Karen Stephens said it will be one of the biggest and most important exhibitions to visit the Glenelg Shire. “We are honoured to be one of only four shires in Victoria

chosen to host this outstanding exhibition, which will travel to major cities and regional towns throughout Australia in the coming years,” Cr Stephens said. “The exhibition tells the story of Anne Frank and the holocaust and challenges visitors to think about concepts such as tolerance, mutual respect, human rights, and democracy. “It is amazing to think that seventy years after World War II, The Diary of Anne Frank is still the 10th most-read book in the world. “People travel across the world to visit the Anne Frank Museum in the Netherlands, so we are extremely fortunate to have this free exhibition right here in our shire. “It was amazing to meet Hans Nieuwland, the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, who joined me at Monday’s opening.” Ten people have taken on Volunteer Guide roles for the Portland exhibition, and bookings from school groups both within and outside the shire are now being taken with bookings from Kaniva Secondary College, Coleraine Primary School, and a group of 10 from a Friendship Group in Mount Gambier already having booked their places. The exhibition is recommended for students who are in Year 6 and above. The exhibition will be shown at the Portland Arts Centre from August 19 to September 13 and the Casterton Town Hall from September 18 to October 4. Entry is free. For further information, please contact the Portland Arts Centre on (03)5522 2263.

The selected works on display attempt to reveal each artist’s unique engagement with the issues of contemporary Australian life and artistic practice and can often resonate deeply with contemporary audiences.

The couple initially set up the business in their own home but it grew so rapidly and achieved such success that by March 2007 the couple had a shopfront and also the assitance of fellow Fletcher Jones graduates Debbie Barker, Dianne Adams and administration assistant Jennifer Freundt. All five worked side by side at Fletcher Jones and bring that same commitment to their work at Sew Unique, a business that has also expanded its services significantly over the years. They

When a business brings more than 100 years of experience to the table you have to sit up and take notice. Sew Unique does exactly that. Established by husband and wife team, David and Linda Marcus, the sewing and alterations business was the couple’s response to the closure of Fletcher Jones in Mount Gambier. The duo started at the famous clothing manufacturer when they were 15 years old, learning the business from the ground up and perhaps most importantly, learning about producing quality garments and never taking shortcuts. “When we all left school there were two places you could work if you weren’t going to university or learning a trade,” Linda said. “It was the sawmills or Fletcher Jones and we all ended up at Fletcher Jones.” David was actually set to be a sewing machine technician when he started at the iconic company but immediately found himself at a machine sewing. New board members appointed Two new members of the Portland District Health board are bringing a fresh perspective from two different outlooks. Bayview College Principal Michelle Kearney is relatively new to the area while Shaun Smith has run businesses in town for the past 25 years. Both Ms Kearney and Mr Smith are keen to improve engagement with the local community and promote greater use of the hospital by Portland district residents. Dr Kearney moved from Melbourne Girls Grammar School last year to take up her first role as principal in Portland. “I love my school role but also wanted to become involved in the community,” she said. Dr Kearney has been in exofficio and leadership roles on education boards but sees the PDH position as a new and exciting challenge. “There are some strong synergies between the compliance requirements in the education and health systems,” she said. “It will be a challenge to walk in the shoes of a governance role. I will need to think more globally but I hope to use the skills I have in strategic thinking, leading people and in human resources to make a positive contribution.” Dr Kearney said that like all organisations, keeping stakeholders engaged was a key challenge for PDH. “Any organisation must strive for sound communication with their community, strategic decision making, good fiscal management and to provide a good standard of care and customer service,” she said. Mr Smith has run the Barkly Street Store for 25 years and a jewellery store for the past seven years and hopes his local connections and “common sense” approach will benefit PDH. “Part of being successful in business is having a good relationship with the public. I hope I can contribute to developing better relationships between the community and the hospital,” he said. Mr Smith said one of his main priorities was to encourage more local people to use their local hospital. “If we can encourage more locals to use the hospital, the more it will grow and be able to offer the services that we need,” he said.

come’n’try Square Dancing is Fun - Come and Try - Allabout Squares Dance Club We are inviting new dancers to come and try Square Dancing in August. We meet at Glenburnie Hall, Casterton Road on Saturday evenings starting at 7.30pm. More than two hours of entertainment from a live caller is provided followed by a delicious supper. Nominal cost. No experience necessary. Please call Andrea on 0417 509 144.

COLLECTED STUPIDITY I’m really struggling figuring out who to vote for at the moment. I understand that we vote for our local member, not for the leader of the respective parties, but obviously who the leader is has some influence on the decision. Considering I’m not really a fan of either leader, that doesn’t help things at all. I don’t really know any of the candidates locally. I’ve offered them the chance to a one on one interview with Robbie Tansel with no success. Remember the road to Canberra runs straight through Tanselville. If one of them bothers to drop me a line or answer a couple of questions, I might get to know them or even recommend them to you. The $20 offer is still there so email me at robbietansel@gmail.com The various policies of each party would be another good way to decide, but let’s be honest, do any of us truly understand enough about all the various things they promise? What I’d really like to do is sit down and ask Mr Rudd and Mr Abbott some questions that I think get to the heart of what is really important in a leader. So since I didn’t get around to emailing them my questions, I’ve decided to tell you the questions I would ask and how I

Who to vote for by Robbie Tansel

think they would answer. Question one. What’s your favourite pizza topping? I think Mr Rudd would be a supreme man. He wants it all. Mr Abbott strikes me as he might want vegetarian as he is a bit of a health nut. Question two. If you could be a superhero, which superhero would you be? I think Mr Rudd would probably pick Superman because he could then use his laser vision to incinerate journalists if they asked a question he didn’t like, instead of simply talking around and around in circles until they got sick of trying to get an answer. Mr Abbott would probably also pick Superman because he would enjoy all that lycra and wearing his underwear on the outside. Question three. Jessica Biel or Jessica Alba: who’s hotter? I think Kevin Rudd would pick Jessica Alba because he has working eyes and an essentially functioning brain. I think Mr Abbott would say that they both have the same average body temperature of most human beings which is 37 degrees. I think he’d take the question far too literally. Question four. What do you think is the deal with that Dome show on Channel Ten? I think Mr Rudd would say it was aliens. I think Mr Abbott would say that it was

the sort of infrastructure project that his government would endeavour to strategically build over Sydney’s western suburbs. Question five. What is your favourite tie colour? Mr Rudd. Blue. Mr Abbott. Blue. Question six. Who is your favourite Beatle? I think Mr Rudd would say Ringo based mainly on his work on Thomas the Tank Engine. Doesn’t he look like a train enthusiast? Apologies to all you train enthusiasts out there that I just stereotyped as nerds. Did you read what I wrote about teenagers a couple of weeks ago. None of them complained. I think Mr Abbott would say Justin Bieber because I don’t think he would be that much of a music enthusiast. Question seven. Who should Australia be opening the batting with? I think Mr Rudd would want to pick his openers based on the

prevailing pitch conditions. I think Mr Abbott would say he wanted a change at the top and then I’d have to clarify that he understood the question was about the Australian cricket team not prime minister, and then he’d probably say,“When you were asking about Jessica Biel and Jessica Alba before were you actually asking who was more attractive?” because it had finally clicked what I was actually asking and then we’d all laugh about the silly misunderstanding. Anyway, if any candidate would like to talk to me, I’m a swinging voter who’s ready to listen.

With spring just around the corner and buds starting to burst it’s time to finish all those end of winter gardening jobs. All pruning of roses, deciduous trees and fruit trees will be well under way if not finished and it important to make sure you have applied a winter spray of lime sulphur straight after pruning to clean up any overwintering pests and diseases. Also on the important list is copper

Spring is just around the corner

sprays for stone fruit trees such as peaches and nectarines to avoid the attack of curly leaf. This is going to be more prevalent this year with the continuous rain and finding dry days to get sprays on is hard. All you can do is try your best. The time for planting dormant deciduous trees and fruit trees is drawing to a close also. Stone fruit and almonds are bursting in to life so this week should be

the last opportunity to plant these from bare rooted trees. We have an end of winter clearance on these at only $19.95 along with a few other specials running on from the end of our Huge Tree Sale. Potted specimens on the other hand can be planted all year round, so don’t panic too much if you haven’t got time. Now is also the time to be applying the first of the seasons fertilisers and with all this lovely rain should be easily washed in. This should be applied around the drip line of mature trees and fruit trees and around 30cm out from the base of roses. We have been having fantastic results with a new rose fertiliser that came onto the market a few years ago. It is now available to the home gardener as it was used mainly by us professional growers in the past. It has higher amounts of potash, so important for disease prevention and colour and quantity of blooms plus being coated with Iron which is an added bonus in our predominantly alkaline soils, should make your roses the glossiest they have ever been. Around 100 people turned out for our rose and tree pruning demonstration a few weeks ago, if you missed

this opportunity we will have another in late spring but our staff are always eager to help with any enquiries you may have. The deciduous magnolias are looking great at the moment around the region and bursting forth with their goblet shaped blooms on the bare branches. We have 25% off all of these in our sale including the sought after Black Tulip and denudata varieties. Come in for a look at their stunning display and grab a bargain at the same time. Most of our bare rooted deciduous ornamental trees are selling out and as they burst back in to life we will have to withdraw them from sale for potting on. So, don’t leave planting too long, make the most of the great rain to settle everything in. In the Pot Shop there is a whole new range of goodies from my recent buying trip starting to filter through. Unusual gardening orientated gifts, wall art, gardening tools (ideal for fathers day), furniture from all corners of the globe. Some stunning new solid mahogany birdhouses and dovecotes in limited numbers are also available.Normally this is not the time of year we think about purchasing outdoor furniture but we

have a few specials on benches, arches and table and chair settings to clear to make way for the new seasons stock coming

through and at these prices you wont want to miss out. Gardenarium is situated on Bay Road (Riddoch Hwy) 1.3 kms

south of the Blue lake Roundabout. See website for maps and details. By Calum Haygarth

what is gluten??? R

R

Think of gluten as a glue-like substance that gives wheat and other products their chewy structure. Although the science is much more complex than the definition, gluten can be defined, in lay terms, as the sticky protein substance in wheat. Gluten is found in dozens of wheat-based products. It’s also prevalent in rye as well as oats and barley (bad news for beer drinkers). Coeliac disease is based around gluten intolerance but many people have a noncoeliac related low tolerance. Eliminating gluten from our diet has also become somewhat of a fad and the gluten free industry is a multi million dollar enterprise.

Apart from the project’s historic value, shoots so far have shown it to be an effective personal development opportunity for each participant.” From a historic viewpoint the year 2013 is unique because those turning thirteen this year were born in 2000, the year beckoning a new millennium. Participants in “Thirteen” are the first generation of this new millennium. This instance will not occur again until the year 3000. “Photo shoots take place under studio conditions and every effort is made in creating a relaxed environment,” Tanya said. “All participants so far each have had degrees of nervousness initially and ended their shoots with what I perceived as an increased confidence, really feeling happy with themselves.” Part of the proceeds from this project will be donated to a charity to help children who are victims of abuse.

September 11 Chet Baker Show – Like Someone in Love HAMILTON PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE, HAMILTON Chet Baker was the ‘James Dean of Jazz’. His extraordinary talent with the trumpet and his fragile, captivating vocal style barely hid his offstage drug addiction and frequent brushes with the law. David Goldthorpe explores both the haunting, unforgettable music that made Baker famous and the visceral, self-destruction that made him infamous and takes the audience on a gripping ride through the highs and lows of Baker’s life, interspersing the dialogue with expertly arranged Baker classics under the musical direction of Tim Solly and performed with a full live band. The theatre show is followed by a jazz concert featuring Goldthorpe’s refreshing take on Baker’s unique style of both singing and playing.

To the delight of the entire team, Cape Jaffa Wines has just been named a 5 star winery in the 2014 James Halliday Wine Companion for the first time. This accolade credits the winery as an outstanding producer of very high quality wines. And as an added pat on the back the winery has been singled out as one of Ten Dark Horses. “Achieving a 5 star rating is a fabulous endorsement of our efforts to make outstanding wines,” said Cape Jaffa Wines director Derek Hooper said. “It’s also great for boosting the profile of Mt Benson as a wine producing region. “It’s very fitting that this accolade arrives during Cape Jaffa’s 20 year anniversary and is a testament to the hard work of our Jaffa teams both past and present.” The James Halliday Wine Companion is Australia’s best selling and definitive guide to Australian wine and to be eligible for this 5 star accolade, two or more wines must be given a rating of 94 points or above. Over the course of the past year Halliday has given Cape Jaffa’s wines some extremely good feedback upon tasting. “Our La Lune Shiraz consistently receives a great wrap from RLA62833 James Halliday – having received a 94 point rating for the last 3 vintages,” said Derek. “We also just released our 2012 La Lune Chardonnay and this has been awarded a 94 point rating plus selected as one of James Halliday’s WOW factor white for 2013.” La Lune is Cape Jaffa’s premium wine series, the result of more than a decade of cultivating according to the moon. These totally handmade wines capture the rugged coastal character of their Mount Benson vineyards and are bursting with terroir and amplified flavour. Very special wines indeed but those wanting to get their hands on a bottle had better ask nicely to join the Cape Jaffa mailing list. The 2010 La Lune Shiraz was sold out even before reaching cellar door this year – a testament to the consistent high quality of these wines. The 2010 vintage has been an incredible success story for Cape Jaffa with both their Cabernet Sauvignon and Epic Drop Shiraz from this vintage receiving numerous accolades with

Epic Drop Shiraz selected in James’s Top 50 Wines for Cellaring in 2013 and the Cabernet Sauvignon featuring as a top drop in the Australian Gourmet Traveller magazine. Derek believes wine lovers should watch out for the release of their 2012 vintage wines next month because again Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon were stand out varieties. Cape Jaffa’s winemaker Anna Hooper is also extremely pleased with the accolade. “It has been a big ambition of mine over the last few years to make more exciting wines with character that reflect this region,” Anna said. “To have this recognised by such an important Australian wine judge is about as high an accolade as you can get in Australia so it’s very rewarding and the news definitely called for a good bottle of Australia sparkling with which to celebrate.” And very soon Cape Jaffa Wines will be able to celebrate with their very own sparkling wine – a brand new edition to their stable so stay tuned for the Spring Sparkling launch. Cape Jaffa Wines is the only debutante from Limestone Coast wine regions and the only Mt Benson winery with a James Halliday 5 star rating and joins Wrattonbully winery Terre Terre, which is also the only winery featured from its region. It also joins a number of Coonawarra wineries that have been long time favourites of Halliday, including Balnaves, Bellwether, Bowen Estate, Brand’s Laira, Bundalong, Katnook Estate, Koonara, Leconfield, Lindemans, Majella, Parker Coonawarra Estate, Patrick of Coonawarra, Penley Estate, Punters Corner, Rymill, Wynns and Zema Estate. Henty wineries to appear on the Halliday list are Bochara Wines, Crawford River Wines and Henty Estate, while from the Grampians region, A.T. Richardson, Best’s, Clayfield Wines, Grampians Estate, Kimbarra, Mount Langi Ghiran Vineyards, Seppelt and The Story Wines are all five star rated by Halliday. WBFL The

silent assassin hits 200 game mark

In some ways, East Gambier ruckman Sam Clark running out onto Malseed Park for his 200th game at the weekend was somewhat of a surprise. Not because the lion hearted Bulldog isn’t a class performer but because he is so battle weary, playing with and through injury for the past four or five seasons in particular. Having played the bulk of his career as a ruckman, Clark in reality is somewhat undersized, only just topping the six foot mark but what he lacks in height he makes up for in sheer determination, courage and hard work. For much of his career, Mick Childs was at the helm, and the former coach said Clark had always played primarily on heart. “When he was playing at his best, he was the best intercept mark in the competition,” Childs said. “He would drift a kick behind play and mark the ball time and time again.” A much loved clubman,

Clark might be a man of few words, but he is a man of many admirers. “Everyone at East absolutely loves Sam (Clark),” Childs said. “He’s a great club person.” Clark is your consummate lead by example player - Childs cannot recall him ever having anything to say on the training track or on game day. “In fact not talking on the field often saw him colliding with team mates in his bid to get the footy,” Childs said. “He is fearless at the footy, he goes all day and never whinges.” The injury prone big man also never complained. “He would never come and tell me he had a sore hamstring or whatever, he would just say ‘I’ll be right’,” Childs said. With a young family, he has three sons, Clark sometimes finds getting to training tough but that certainly didn’t make him any less dedicated. “Rain, hail or shine, Sam would get to training whenever he could even if it was for the last 15 or 20 minutes,” Childs said. “And then when everyone else went in he would be out on the oval, doing laps, sprints and looking for someone to have a kick with.” The dual club best and fairest won those honours in years when East Gambier made grand finals, which is considered the true mark of a great player at any level of football. Sadly, East Gambier struggled to even be competitive in their champion’s milestone match,

scoring a lamentable two points for the entire contest against West Gambier and definitely closing the door on a possible finals appearance. West Gambier kicked three goals in the first 10 minutes of the contest and given the conditions the match was all but over. East was second to the ball and unable to get the ball forward and into the hands of Chris Povey and Chris Anderson, who had dominated the week before against South. In the other two matches of the round, South and North both got the job done against Millicent and Casterton respectively. Left - Sam Clark chaired off by George Beck and Chris Povey. bring championship assault to the Icehouse

Friday night’s 13 point victory over East Conference leaders Bendigo ensured the Castec Rural Supplies Mount Gambier Pioneers secured a guaranteed two home finals in the upcoming post season action. The Icehouse will now host the Pioneers v Nunawading second semi final on Friday night. Victory in that match would ensure a home grand final, while a loss would mean the preliminary final would be at the Icehouse. Titus Robinson was the star on Friday night with 20 points and16 rebounds, as the Pioneers inflicted Bendigo’s only home loss of the season. The 13 point victory handed the Pioneers the luxury of resting key scorers Brad Hill and Erik Burdon in Saturday night’s clash with Frankston, which the Pioneers also won by 11 points after a stunning opening half that saw the visitors 26 points clear at the main break. Robinson again was a key, in a good sign for play-offs, while

Lukass Blicavs (17 points); skipper Matt Sutton (11) emerging as the unlikely scorers, lending support to key playmaker Tom Daly (16). Local talent Matt Berkefeld was also valuable in the Frankston clash. Burdon has returned to Perth for his NBL commitments but will be back Thursday night for training and Friday night’s semi final - the first time the Pioneers have played in post season matches since 2004 and the first home court final since 2003, the championship year. The Pioneers will be desperate to advance to the grand final directly, with NBL commitments for Hill and Ben Allen, emerging again the week ot the preliminary final, while Burdon’s plans are still in limbo pending a trip to China by the Wildcats. Ticket enquiries can be made at finalstix@pioneersbasketball.com.au or by calling (08)8723 2050 between 9am-5pm. Once season ticket holders and sponsors have taken up their allocations, tickets will be available for purchase on Wednesday, August 21, at the Icehouse between 10am-5pm for cash only purchases.

is set to fly in another Pines Enduro

The 2013 Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro 400 will be on September 6-8, hosted by The Millicent Sand Buggy Club. The event will be held at Teagle’s Quarry in Millicent in the South East of South Australia. Teams will race out of Teagle’s quarry into the Mount Burr Pine Forrest where competitors will be faced with a combination of tall pine

trees, sand and gravel, as well as a fantastic arena area at the quarry situated on the entrance to Millicent on the Mount Gambier road. The 2013 Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro 400 is set to be bigger than ever before. The event is the final round of the 2013 ARB Australian Off Road Racing Series. The series consists of four rounds starting with Sea Lake June

8-9, Griffith July 13-14, Goondiwindi August 10-11 and then Millicent being the last round on the calendar. The series promotes a safe, fair and enjoyable family friendly series with a focus on a transparent, open and professional attitude to competitors. The Millicent Sand Buggy Club have strived to improve the event each year, which has seen it quickly progress from a club event back in the early 90s to a renowned national event and currently an event of the newly formed ARB Australian Off Road Racing Series. The newly formed ARB Australian Offroad Racing Series is creating a lot of interest throughout teams in Australia; the first three rounds have been held at Sea Lake, Griffith and Goondiwindi, with competitors flocking to these rounds. This has shown that there is a lot of interest in the series as it promotes family friendly racing and consistency throughout each event. The event will be run as an enduro race with competitors racing six laps of the 65km course consisting of three sections of two

laps with competitors having to finish all six laps to be classified as a finisher of the race. The club’s focus is to see the event continue on for many years to come as it has done in the past, with the club believing that this new series will be here to stay as it is a more family friendly racing series with a relaxed atmosphere. The Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro is a great family friendly event not to be missed, the event is here to stay and will be bigger and better than before with one of the best spectator arena’s in Australia and some of the best picturesque landscapes racing down Pine Breaks and forest roads, remember September 6-8 for some great family racing. Don’t forget to check us out on Facebook and our page Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro page also get behind the ARB Australian Off Road Racing Series which can also be found on Facebook and arboffroadracing.com.au
