Celebrating their first birthday, the trio of beauty therapists – Tina; Linda & Hailey – are all about organic, chemical and cruelty free products. Tina brings 30 years in the beauty industry to the table, while Linda has 11 years experience and Hayley has six, with all three girls working side by side in the beauty rooms at Murray T. Keeping things as natural as possible across their cosmetic, skincare and even nail care ranges was a priority for all three girls, who have settled in nicely to their Sturt Street premises. The first 12 months has flown for the trio and the good news is, the first anniversary celebrations are

TEMPT THE TASTEBUDS
Crispy cheese baked chicken 125g Ritz crackers 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh basil, plus extra leaves to serve 250g block cheddar cheese, grated 1 cup plain flour 2 eggs, lightly beaten 6 chicken breast fillets
2 bunches broccolini 250g vine-ripened cherry tomatoes, cut into small bunches 50g butter 1 1/2 cups milk 2/3 cup thickened cream 2/3 cup grated parmesan
Method Preheat oven to 200C/180C fan-forced. Line a large baking tray with baking paper. Place crackers in a small food processor. Process until coarse crumbs form. Transfer to a shallow bowl. Add basil and 2/3 of the grated cheddar. Stir to combine. Place 3/4 cup flour and egg in 2 separate shallow bowls. One at a time, toss chicken in flour, shaking off excess. Dip in egg, then toss in cracker mixture to coat, pressing gently to secure. Place on prepared tray. Bake for 15 minutes. Add broccolini and tomatoes to tray. Bake for a further 10 to 15 minutes or until chicken is golden and cooked through. Meanwhile, melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add remaining flour. Cook, stirring, for 1 minute or until mixture bubbles. Reduce heat to low. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly, until mixture is smooth. Add cream. Increase heat to medium. Cook, stirring for 5 minutes or until mixture bubbles and thickens. Stir in parmesan and remaining cheddar. Stir until smooth. Season with salt and pepper. Drizzle chicken with cheese sauce and sprinkle with extra basil. Serve.
FOODLAND OPENS ITS DOORS IN MOUNT GAMBIER The wait is over. Mount Gambier’s Foodland officially opened its doors last week, giving local shoppers the chance to support an independently, South Australian owned supermarket. The project was spearheaded by Carter’s Retail Group, a family owned company that already has operations in Naracoorte and Robe in this region, with the Mount Gambier store calling Central Mount Gambier home. “We thought Mount Gambier needed an independent supermarket and this is a very good centre,” company patriarch Tim Carter said at last Wednesday’s opening. “Today (last Wednesday) is going really well so we’re off to a good start.” Mount Gambier Mayor Andrew Lee officially opened the new supermarket. “It’s a great day for us to have Foodland opening here,” the Mayor said. “It shows confidence in our city as they have invested a lot of money here. It has provided jobs, it
attracts shoppers here to Central and it makes for a competitive environment.”
The Carter family was on hand at the official opening and Mr Carter was happy to point out why the Foodland shopping experience would be different. “Our customer service is really important and we will have a lot of local produce and can source things like that straight away,” he said. “We can react to things straight away and we are always listening to our customers.” Foodland Mount Gambier includes an in-store bakery, full scale butcher and fresh meat production, gourmet service deli, fresh fruit and vegetables and an artisan cheese bar. “We have established strong relationship with many South Australian food producers during our 20 years in retail and customers can expect to find brands and products in Mount Gambier Foodland that are often not available in the chain supermarkets,” Mr Carter said. “We are excited to be investing in Mount Gambier and to give the residents and district of Mount Gambier the choice of shopping with a great local S.A. independent brand.” Foodland Mount Gambier has created upwards of 50 jobs for the district, as well as the local contractors that worked on the construction project. In February this year, Foodland was named the Australian Supermarket of the Year for 2015 by leading market research agency Roy Morgan – the second time Foodland has won the award in three years. CELEBRATING COONAWARRA’S BEST
The 2017 Cellar Dwellers program has just been released and showcases a range of exceptional, and sometimes exclusive, Coonawarra wine experiences designed to attract a broad range of visitors to the region. The range of events in the 2017 program has eclipsed previous years and encompasses every day of July in Coonawarra. Coonawarra Vignerons president, Peter Balnaves said this event continues to draw greater numbers of visitors each year who look forward to the opportunity to taste a range of older Coonawarra wines and learn about ageing potential of our great wines.
IT’LL BE RIGHT ON THE NIGHT
Highlights include a jazz event on July 8 being headlined by Melbourne based band Shirazz Jazz; 10 year old Cabernet tastings; ten food events; and a celebration of Wynns 60th vintage of their black label Cabernet Sauvignon. ‘’We are particularly pleased about the return of Shirazz Jazz – they wowed audiences last year with their New Orleans style jazz,” said Mr Balnaves. Cellar Dwellers runs from July 1-31 and ensures there is something for visitors every day for the month of July. MJ Dance Studio concerts once or twice a year to watch his daughter perform is the extent of Grant Fensom’s dancing experience heading into the 2017 Swinging With The Stars and the Port MacDonnell local admits it has been an eye opener. “I have a whole new appreciation for what those kids in those concerts can do,” he said. “I used to think that can’t be that hard but it is that hard.” Training for the June 24 event was also a bit of a wake up call. “I didn’t realise how unfit I had become – middle age stuff,” he said. “And you want to do your best but life gets in the way as you try and make sure you are at Sunday rehearsals and finding time to do extra practice.” Grant (pictured right) took up the challenge to support a cause close to his heart – the Steven Noble Sub Fund, which is raising money for the purchase of a community bus for Port MacDonnell. 2015 winner, partnered with celebrity Ben Hood, Kath Miller, is Grant’s partner and he couldn’t be more grateful for her support. “She’s been so good and so patient,” Grant said. The fast pace of the hip hop has seen that loom as the most challenging but in reality, Grant said all four genres have been tough – tango, waltz and swing are the other dances the octet of stars will perform at the Barn Palais gala event this Saturday. “They’ve all been challenging in their own way and until you get your head around what you have to do,” Grant said. “Kim (Cella, the choreographer) has been brilliant, her and her team of dancers. I actually think
I’ll miss it when we finish up.” Grant doesn’t have high expectations but believes those who started from a very low base have improved significantly. “You only get out of it what you put into it,” he said. “We all want to be as good as we can be but if we’re too good there’ll be nothing to laugh at – I think thanks to me there’ll be something to laugh at.” Of course, the serious side of the competition is the fundraising and Grant’s wide Emma has spearheaded that with some hugely successful events. They held a Mother’s Day High Tea at The Customs House and also ran a dinner dance, which was so popular, locals want it to become a

ITALIAN INTERNATIONAL SET TO DEVELOP LIMESTONE COAST JUNIOR SOCCER PLAYERS upcoming school holidays, Limestone Coast based junior soccer players will have the chance to develop their skills courtesy of the Eastern United Football Club Academy. Apollo Soccer Club has forged a relationship with Adelaide based Eastern United and the metro club’s hugely successful academy will be working with this region’s juniors from Mini Roos through to Under 17 players. “Pete (Landolfi) and I work in the same industry and we were at an expo in Melbourne when we just started talking about soccer, Hodge said. “They (Eastern United) were already doing something similar in Bendigo which started last year and they had been looking to establish something in Mount Gambier for some time. I was really keen to get something going. The Western Border Football League has that relationship with Glenelg Football Club so juniors from

The inaugural academy visit is from July 10-14, across four age groups – Mini Roos; Under 12; Under 14 and 14 years plus. “Eastern United is looking forward to seeing the talent in Mount Gambier and believe this will be a relationship that benefits both clubs with very similar long term goals, Hodge said. “Apollo is looking to support the improvement in our junior development which should in turn improve the standard of our seniors. Former Italian international Diego Pellegrini is the headline act from the Eastern United Football Club Academy and the chance for Limestone Coast juniors to work with a coach is his calibre is too good an opportunity to miss. Pellegrini played three games for the Italian Under 21 national team in the early 1990s and aside from a proud career at a number of Italian clubs, Pellegrini has played key roles for Adelaide City and also the Adelaide Blue Eagles. and registration for the academy sessions can be made by emailing apolloscacademy@gmail.com Registrations close July 3. The coaching sessions will be run at Apollo’s Webb Street home ground with the Mini Roos from 9am – 10.30; the Under 12 session from 11-12.30pm; Under 14 session from 1.30-3pm and the 14 years plus running from 3.305pm. “Diego (Pellegrini) is bringing an assistant with him and we’ve limited numbers so the sessions will be very personal and lots of one on one opportunities for each child, Hodge said. “As part of the new relationship, Eastern United will also welcome any Apollo club players, should they be in Adelaide, to attend Eastern United club training and academy sessions at any time. There will also be opportunities for selected junior players from Apollo to be given access to financial scholarships to help support families. The Mount Gambier sessions from July 10-14 are open to male and female players. Participating in these July sessions could also open up the opportunity for Limestone Coast players to participate in a similar camp at Eastern United in the September school holidays that is run by powerhouse AC Milan. FANTASTIC MILESTONE FOR READING PROGRAM
This week, United Way Glenelg (UWG) will reach the incredible milestone of sending its 20,000th book to preschool-age children living in the Glenelg Shire. This milestone will be celebrated with Mayor Cr Anita Rank reading the children’s book Koala Lou to children attending the story time session at Glenelg Libraries, 11am on Friday. A small craft activity will follow along with the cutting of a cake and fruit platter to be shared amongst the attendees. United Way Glenelg is thrilled to share the celebration with the Portland Library who plays an important role in providing free access to children’s literacy resources and programs. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is an initiative of UWG in partnership with Portland Aluminium. The inaugural three year partnership was launched in 2013 by then Victorian Premier Dr Denis Napthine. Each month, the program places a new book in the hands of families with children from birth to age five for free. “Our dream of providing books to all the children living in the Glenelg Shire is becoming a reality one registration form at a time, said Nicole Angelino, Executive Officer of UWG. “Sending 20,000 books is just an amazing milestone for us, as we grow this program we are strengthening children, families and our communities. To celebrate, UWG will be joined by representatives from Portland Aluminium, who have just recently signed up for a further two year partnership to support the project; allowing it to reach substantially greater numbers of children. Two hundred children have graduated from the program to date with more than 400 brand new books mailed out each month. Portland Aluminium Plant Manager Peter Chellis said the Dolly Parton Imagination Library is a partnership that he and his team are very proud of and very passionate about. “To have the opportunity and ability to help educate the next generation; to give them the best possible start to life is a privilege, he said. “I am personally very proud to be involved in the program. If you’re interested in donating so more children can receive books please contact Nicole Angelino at mail@unitedwayglenelg. com.au or go to the website.
MUSIC & FOOD IN FOCUS FOR CITY BAND
TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE
The proof will be in the pudding as they say, with plenty of hot soup on offer when the Mount Gambier City Band launches its fundraising recipe book during the band’s Winter Warmers concert this Sunday. Players and friends have contributed their own recipes to the collection, with funds from the sale of the cook book going towards continued improvements at the band hall, which was recently given a fresh coat of paint by members. The idea for the cook book came from band supporter Pauline Verrity, who has spent countless hours supporting the band. Band president Craig Wood said the band was lucky to have the support of community members such as Ray and Pauline, and players were really looking forward to putting on the concert, as well as a Talent Quest on Wednesday, June 28. “It is great for the band to enjoy such strong community support, and the band loves nothing better than working towards quality performances for the public,” he said, Band musical director Matt Jones has been rehearsing the band through a varied program of brass band favourites. Mr Wood said the band was looking to provide friendly and enjoyable atmosphere at concerts, as a way of increasing its following. “Hopefully people will spread the word about the value of our concerts and the fact that they don’t have to travel to a capital city to hear great brass music,” Mr Wood said.

CAPTURING THE MANY ASPECTS OF WATTLE RANGE
The Wattle Range Photographic Exhibition is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and with that comes some new innovations, including a new privately sponsored category focussing on Millicent’s iconic Lake McIntyre. The Wattle Range Photographic Exhibition, held annually, captures the vibrancy and diversity of the Wattle Range region, and has proven to be a great opportunity for photographers to exhibit their images. Organisers also find it rewarding to be part of the development of the photographers, in particular, the young shutterbugs, who expand their horizons and ability every year. Another first in 2017 is Koonara Wines managing director Dru Reschke coming on board as one of the judges. Dru is an active photographer with many years of experience as both a photographer and a technician. He has a keen eye for innovative photography along with the elements of photography. Dru will also be presenting the awards on opening night, which is this Friday. This exhibition showcases images captured by professionals, right through to talented new photographers, and the stunning work of young photographers. These photographs are then selected for the Wattle Range Calendar. In 2017, photographers will be competing across nine categories with more than $3000 in prize money on offer, as well as wine packs, featuring local drops, and vouchers. In 2016, the exhibition attracted more than 200 entries, with 17 first time entrants showcasing their work. The Youth Category saw the biggest increase in entries, and the Hurst Camera House sponsored category, is again expected to expand. Millicent can certainly stake a claim to being the centre of photography, hosting the Limestone Coast Photographic Group, whose members continue to support this exhibition and mentor the photographers; hosting the Rotary Photographic Exhibition, which is developing in national importance, and this exhibition, all enabling the amateur photographer to learn and grow and lifestyle1.net | 26
CAPTURING THE MANY ASPECTS OF WATTLE RANGE
those who are more adept to continue to develop and expand their knowledge and ability and pass on information. Through social media everyone is able to share this enthusiasm for photography and celebrate it further at this exhibition. The photographs reflect the talent of the region’s photographers, capturing the essence, style and vibrancy of the Wattle Range region, with an emphasis on people, places, business and industry, and sport and leisure. Wattle Range is a diverse and exciting region and this exhibition represents this ethos with many takes on what sometimes we consider to be the commonplace. The June 23 opening is from 6.30pm at the Millicent Gallery and the exhibition is on display through until July 30, during library opening hours and Sundays between 2 and 4pm. COLLECTED STUPIDITY - STUPID KIDS... By ROBBIE TANSEL has met kids who have been at school for a while though, they’re still stupid. They’re taller and they can talk better but they’re still dumb. They also smell bad. Before I get a heap of well written emails with impeccable spelling, grammar and logic, I’m not taking a dig at teachers. Teachers have a horrible job. They’re constrained by the curriculum governments demand they teach. I’m sure they know better than I do how much of a waste of time it is. But if they want their seventeen weeks of holidays each year they have to keep their mouths shut. Think back on your own time at school and you’ll realise that you only use about one percent of what
Some of you may know my son Shaquille is at kindy this year. My partner Donna and I have started thinking about whether we bother sending him to school. Don’t get me wrong. Things are going well at kindy. Shaq likes going to kindy. Why wouldn’t he, I guess? Lots of cool things to play with. Someone organises entertaining activities for you each day. Fruit break. Life’s good. My issue with school is I don’t think they teach you anything useful. People send their children to school thinking that it will make them smarter in some way. I do kind of understand the logic of wanting children to get smarter. Children are stupid when they are young. If anyone

you were taught during your time at school. I went to school once. When I say once I mean one period of time that lasted thirteen years. Let me share some of the useless things I was taught during this time that have no relevance to my life now. Pythagoras theorem. Some Greek guy invented some stupid rule to work out the length of a missing side of a triangle. Sorry it only works with right angle triangles. How often do you run into a right angle triangle in your day to day life. And why would you know the length of two of the sides, but not the other one? Here’s a better way to work out the length of a missing side of a triangle in the real world. Get a ruler or tape measure. Even better, get one of the fancy digital measurement tools I saw a mate of mine with recently.
Here’s another thing I was taught while at school which is useless. How to analyse a book. For starters, the books they got us to read were fiction. I don’t know if you know this but fiction means make believe. The books aren’t real. Why on earth do I need to analyse their motivation or the message of the story then? It’s totally make believe. Apart from reading books, reading in general is overrated and unnecessary. When do you need to read something in the real world? Signs? The octagon one says stop. The triangle says give way. Terms and conditions. No one reads them. They know we’re not going to read them. They’re thirty pages long and all they want us to do is tick a box that says we’re waiving all legal rights and happy for them to exploit us. No one has ever read the terms and conditions before agreeing to one of these internet contracts. Having said that, some reading that is worthwhile is reading my best selling first book Village Idiot of the Year, still available at Collins Booksellers in Mount Gambier. Nothing I was taught in science has been of any use to me. Cells. Who
cares? Force. Only if you’re talking about Star Wars. Was it fun blowing things up? Nothing better than mixing up some chemicals and watching things explode. But no relevance to life. History was no better. Sure, it’s facts but it’s already happened. It’s finished. There’s nothing you can do about it. You can’t change it. We get it. Hitler was a bad dude. Seventy years ago. He’s dead. No relevance to me. Doesn’t help me at all with the fact Shaquille never sleeps. Sir Isaac Isaacs was Australia’s first Australian born Governor General. What were his parents thinking giving him that name? A hundred years ago. It has no use in my life. They still teach the same stuff. I don’t need to know any of it. I’ve got Google. And Wikipedia. And Donna. She knows everything and don’t you even think of telling her otherwise. I think Shaquille will have the important skills mastered by the end of kindy. Share. Don’t pick your nose. Sit still and do as you’re told. Don’t hit people. Put things back where you found them. That should do. What else do you need to know for a successful life? If you think I maybe should have listened better at school, email me at robbietansel@gmail.com
carpentry skills as a sub contractor. The past few weeks have been nothing short of hectic for Kelly, as he juggled dance training, club training and interleague training – after being appointed the Mid South East Football League interleague coach for the long weekend’s South East Zone Carnival. His early rehearsal time was also stymied by a shoulder injury, which at one stage threatened to end his dancing journey. But thanks to the support of dancing partner Paris Ackland and extra rehearsals with Lucindale’s Nicole Hocking and Penola’s Amanda Flint, who opted to meet in Penola for extra sessions, Jack is starting to feel more comfortable on a dance floor. He was endured some good natured ribbing on the football field as a result of his dancing career. “The Western Border guys certainly gave me a bit of stick,” Jack said. Jack has found the Robe community hugely supportive, though, as he has mounted his fundraising efforts. He held a fashion parade, showcasing local businesses, using the club’s footballers and netballers as models, at the Caledonian Hotel, and at the weekend the Robe Bowls Club held a function this weekend with $10 games
for anyone – the bowls club sorting all the logistics and Jack rounding up the players. The Robe Hotel has also provided good support with a raffle every Friday night during May with Jack making $1600. Jack also believes his involvement and the recent donation from the Stand Like Stone Foundation to the Robe Men’s Shed has put the Limestone Coast based foundation in the spotlight. With the performance now set for this Saturday night, Jack admits nerves are starting to develop. “It has started to get real,” Jack said. “I have 40 people coming to watch, heaps of family and friends so I am excited to get out there.” He has also loved the opportunity of getting to know the other seven stars. “I didn’t know any of them at the start and it’s been fantastic,” he said.

FOOTBALL STAR SET TO TRIP THE LIGHT FANTASTIC He might have produced some fancy footwork on the football field but Jack Kelly is not so sure of foot when it comes to the waltz, tango, swing and hip hop. But the Robe and Mid South East Interleague senior coach has had to step outside his comfort zone and master the moves and this Saturday night is the equivalent of his dancing grand final as he goes toe to toe with the other seven Stars at the 10th anniversary Swinging With The Stars. “I have no dance experience at all but when I was asked I thought why not?” Jack said. Initially Jack thought he had been asked to participate in a swimming event – Swimming with the Stars – but even when he was set straight,
the first time senior coach decided to give it a go. “I hadn’t heard of the Stand Like Stone Foundation but I did some research and I was very impressed,” Jack said. “I’ve really enjoyed the experience so far.” Jack has played football in the SANFL, where injury cruelled his chances, so he knows about hard work but he has certainly found entering the world of dance a unique challenge. “I have a newfound respect for dancers,” Jack said. “It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. It’s not just the steps, it’s getting the hands and feet going at the same time and then doing that in time to the music.” Jack grew up in Naracoorte on the family farm, where he [played his junior football at Kybybolite, and then headed to boarding school at Prince Alfred College, in Adelaide, before completing his carpentry apprenticeship, also in Adelaide. Having holidayed in Robe with his family, when the opportunity came to play at the seaside club, Jack jumped at the opportunity – that was in 2015. He was appointed skipper in 2016 and elevated to the coaching role this season. He spends his working day, either on the fishing boat or utilising those lifestyle1.net | 33

TIGERS BUILD WIN ON DEFENSIVE EFFORT North Gambier 20.12 (132) d East Gambier 6.10 (46) Both sides were missing up to five key players but in the end, North Gambier sent a statement to the rest of the competition with a stunning 86 point demolition of East Gambier. Built on defensive pressure, the effort, from the defenders, in particular, was a reaction to recent reviews and coach Winis Imbi was thrilled with the response. “We review pretty heavily and we certainly challenge our players to be better,” Imbi said. “We hadn’t been happy with our defenders but in the past two games there has been real improvement and they defended well, rebounded well and created and that was great.” The start was all important, the coach not just happy that they enjoyed 15 inside 50s for 10 scoring shots and also restricted the Bulldogs to only one behind. “It was a pretty good balance between offence and defence and you need to do both especially when you play good sides,” Imbi said. “We have a real focus on team defence and that’s a benchmark for us. Our players are offensive by nature which is fantastic but team defence is what we need to be about.” Tom McLennan and Nick Moretti kicked nine between them, with the only downside of the victory being a wrist injury to Declan Carmody, which appears unlikely to sideline the young star. The Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association competed in the South Australian Indoor Bias Bowls Regional Tournament for the seventh time, winning a swag of individual medals finishing second place, for the second successive year, for the Othams Trophy with Adelaide Metro taking the title by four points. The Association competed against teams from the Mid South East Indoor Bowls Association, Adelaide Metro & Para Districts/Golden Grove Association. Each team comprised 26 players, that fielded 10 different team combinations. The Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association won medals in eight of the ten disciplines. The example was set in the Ladies Singles with Jennifer Bowering winning two games and just losing the last game by three shots to win the gold medal with precision bowling. Gary Bowering and Zac Pearson also won gold by winning all three games and dominated their event to claim the Men’s Pairs. The Ladies Pairs team of Veronica Opie and Jodie Hawke was nearly as good as the men very unlucky to lose one game by three shots but had enough percentage to win the gold medal in the Ladies Pairs. The Ladies Fours team of Nancy Horrigan, Kath Hearne, Shirley Gifford and Serena Bourn also jelled together to be a force to be reckoned with only one win and two draws this was enough in a very close competition to win the gold medal. Husband and wife combination Marina and Perria Davis won the gold medal in the Mixed Pairs event; by winning two games and losing one by two shots and this left their percentage high enough to take the top mantle over Adelaide Metro. The Ladies Triples team of Lorraine VanDen Hoogen, Betty Allen and Fiona Pearson won the gold medal with two wins with the two opposition teams having a draw in the last game to give them gold. The Men’s Singles player Stephen Von Duve had a great welcome back to the sport after a long break to claim the silver medal by winning two games and losing to the Adelaide Metro gun of Jeff Davis. The Men’s Triples team of Kevin Burn, Travis Bourn and Craig Pearson won the silver medal by the narrowest of margins of point 14 percent by beating the team from Para Districts in the last game to give them one win and a draw.

LOCAL SPORT PIONEERS SPLIT ROAD DOUBLE
EAGLES CONTINUE TO SOAR
CATS FINALLY HAVE A REASON TO CELEBRATE
Pioneers 95 d Geelong 72; Pioneers 77 lost to Dandenong 91 The Castec Rural Supplies Mount Gambier Pioneers started their weekend road double in fine style with a 23 point victory over competition powerhouse Geelong. Skipper Tom Daly led allcomers with a 23 point game, while Daniel Alexander pulled in 13 rebounds to go with his 22 points and four blocks. Brad Hill had a big game as well, racking up 11 rebounds and 18 points, while James Magden played a critical cameo with 10 points. The Pioneers headed to Geelong without former skipper Matt Sutton, who was sidelined by a hamstring injury that he is hopeful will only keep him off the court early in the week and should return to full training and the weekend return bout with the Supercats. Dellon Brown earned the call up to the travelling squad. The Pioneers won every key statistic, shooting better from three point territory, rebounding strongly, especially the defensive boards, and better conversion from the free throw line. The Supercats couldn’t buy a basket in actual fact, shooting at an unacceptable 28 percent from the floor. On Sunday, the Pioneers headed to Dandenong to take on the Rangers, but were unable to make it two from two, suffering their second loss of 2017. Alexander was again prominent with 23 points, while Erik Burdon (16), Tom Daly (14) and Hill (11) had their moments but in the end had to settle for a 77-91 loss. The Pioneers host Geelong this Friday night from 8pm at the Icehouse.
Hatherleigh 24.13 (157) d Port MacDonnell 4.8 (32) Port MacDonnell coach Ben McGregor hasn’t had too many days where he was longed for the final siren to sound but at the weekend he couldn’t wait. “As bad as we were, they were very good,” McGregor said. “We’ve got no excuses it’s a simple as that. We were relatively close to full strength. Nothing went right.” No one would have predicted a 125 point victory for the Eagles but it has announced that Hatherleigh is the real deal and sitting on top of the Mid South East ladder for a reason. The Eagles’ seven goal win over previously undefeated Kalangadoo was impressive but this was a warning to the rest of the competition and a wake up call for the Demons. Gerard McGrath had a field day loose across half back and set up much of the Eagles play, while Sam Waring was impressive in the ruck and coach Jason Faulkner and youngster Brodie Fabris were also influential. “They (Hatherleigh) have really hit their straps,” McGregor said. “They were good across the board and ran us into the ground.”

Casterton Sanford 35 d South Gambier 31 North Gambeir 57 d East Gambier 50 Millicent 76 d West Gambier 46 Not only would it be a relief for new coach Steph Drogemuller to have notched a win but she would be pleased her new club could do it in a milestone game for goaler Tori Perry, recently promoted back into the A Grade line-up and [playing arguably her best game for 2017 to help her side to victory. But, as the low scoreline suggests, it was a defensive stoush and Drogemuller, in combination with Abbey Shannon really set up the win. The duo was relentless in their contest, denied the South forward line any easy ball and with the help of tenacious wing defender Scarlett Jarrad, created plenty of opportunities for their tam mates to impact the scoreboard. South Gambier had control of the contest in the first half and led by as many as six goals but in a 15 minute period encompassing most of the third quarter and early in the last, the Cats turned that deficit into a six goal lead and held on for the breakthrough win. It was in the third quarter that the Cats fought their way back into the contest - the 13-5 scoreline completely chamging the complexion of the match. Perry and Madalene Cleary converted 13 from 15 in what was easily the Cats best quarter and turned out to be match winning. The highly anticipated clash between North and East Gambier also didn’t disappoint and was another game of two halves as East Gambier saw a 10 goal advantage dissipate to eventually lose by seven to the Tigers. In the remaining game, Millicent dominated to record a 30 goal win over West Gambier in a high scoring affair.

MILLICENT BUSINESS SNARES NATIONAL AWARD FOR SECOND SUCCESSIVE YEAR Most businesses build their success on quality customer service and Millicent’s Mac Jaguar Land Rover delivers in spades on that front – taking out a national award for the second successive year. Mac Jaguar Land Rover won the Customer First Award for a regional dealership, outpointing 30 other regionally based dealerships across Australia. Dealer Principal Angus McDonald, and his wife Julie, were on hand at a dealer convention in Sydney to accept the accolade. “We didn’t expect to win the award again but I guess we shouldn’t be surprised because we have a great team of 15 staff who all do an amazing job,” Angus said. The award is based on survey results and customer feedback. There is no doubt, the awards are reward for effort with Angus having been involved in the industry for almost four decades, working at the same dealership since 1980 and taking over as the boss in 1989. Jaguar Land Rover’s annual Retailer of the Year awards honour the best nationwide in the fields of sales and service but also aim to showcase dealer principals who combine running their businesses with meeting customer needs. The Customer First award was introduced last year to recognise dealerships that continue to provide high quality customer service and ensure the buying experience is always a positive one. Presenting the awards, Jaguar Land Rover Australia managing
director Matthew Wiesner said it had been a significant year for the Jaguar and Land Rover brands in Australia. “It is extremely pleasing to be able to reward these exceptional Jaguar Land Rover retailers for their hard work, and commitment to providing outstanding customer satisfaction”, Mr Wiesner said.
In a year highlighted by record sales, punctuated with a multitude of new vehicle launches and underscored with victory in the World Car of the Year awards, Australia’s Jaguar and Land Rover retailers had plenty of reasons to celebrate at the awards ceremony. Jaguar’s stylish F-PACE SUV was named
