Why adopting a healthy eating plan should be top of your wedding ‘to do’ list

Contact: Sharon Clare on 07875086760 sharon@bodycoachfitness.com www.bodycoachfitness.com

The benefits of eating well before your wedding

....and don’t forget to exercise

• Healthier-looking skin - the right diet will supply vitamins, minerals and nutrients essential for a fresh complexion

It is all very well getting your diet in order, but if you are after maximum results, it pays to embrace a regular exercise regime as well. Whatever your goals, be it to lose a few pounds or drop several dress sizes, apersonal trainer can help you to get into shape for the biggest day of your life!

• Weight loss - a balanced nutrition plan will naturally help to keep your calorie intake in check, which will help you lose weight if you need to

Every bridal weight loss and toning program is different and tailored to your individual requirements. A blend of cardiovascular, core and resistance training combined with a tailored nutrition plan will boost your metabolism and energy levels, improve your complexion and aid in fat loss.

• Energy and stress levels - feeling tired and stressed can be a symptom of poor diet, and it can reduce your enjoyment of the wedding planning process, not to mention the actual day • Overall wellbeing - many couples getting married have plans for a family in mind, and therefore eating right before the wedding is a good way of making sure you are both as healthy as possible when the time comes to start thinking about children. A healthy approach to diet also sets you on the right path for the happy, healthy future that your marriage ceremony is all about.

A healthy eating plan isn’t just a must for brides-to-be, it is something that should be embraced by grooms-to-be as well

Top tips for pre-wedding healthy eating

1

Tea and coffee can be dehydrating and can adverseley affect your nutrient levels and hormone balance - in turn upsetting your metabolism and appetite, which can then make it difficult to balance your weight. Instead opt for herbal varieties such as green or peppermint tea.

A 12 week bridal fat loss program is a proven plan that delivers maximum results in minimum time. A mini 6 week program for mothers of the bride, bridesmaids, the groom and other wedding guests is also available to get you into shape. 2

Oily fish and avocados provide essential fats which can not only assist with weight loss as part of a balanced diet, but can also help to nourish your skin from the inside out - giving you a healthy looking glow. Eseental fats are also know to have a calming effect on pre-wedding stress levels.

3

Raw Coconut oil can be used in place of your normal cooking oil, and is rich in vitam E which helps to nourish the skin. It can also help to regulate appetite and metabolism, and when applied topically acts as an effectve moisturiser for hair and skin.

BETTER MEET ANDY AND CLAIRE: One chance meeting •One romantic proposal • One classical wedding and one honeymoonof-a-lifetime later...

What was the inspiration behind chosen themes/venue etc?

H

ow long have you been together and where did you meet?

We have been together for about 4 years and met through a mutual friend at a party. We have been living together for 3 years.

Where, when and how did the proposal happen?

Andy proposed on the 1st October 2011 on Brooklyn Bridge in New York. He had taken me there as a present for my 30th Birthday. We had 5 days in NY and then 5 days in Washington visiting family. We got to the middle of Brooklyn bridge and Andy asked an old lady to take a picture of us in the centre and just as she took a picture he went down on one knee with a lovely speech and the whole moment was captured on camera. He had been planning it all for a long time and had asked my parents in the summer.

How did you find the wedding planning process?

The wedding planning process was fun but had stressful moments as we only had 8 months to the day between getting engaged and getting married. It was a challenge finding the venue – we looked at about 8-10 different places, but when we saw Great Fosters we both just fell in love with it straight away.

12

The venue was Henry VIII’s old hunting lodge and was very historic so I wanted the day to be in keeping with this and also classical. My dress was a lacy and vintage style so fitted in very well. For all the wedding invites, table plans and name places the theme was butterflies. Each table name was based on a country Andy and I had visited with a photo of us each in that country / on that holiday. The Top Table was New York!

Describe the details of the day

The cake was a particular highlight. It was 5 tiers and it had handcrafted flowers and butterflies made for us my a friend. The flavour was red velvet. In terms of the flowers, we went for Cream and Royal Blue in candelabras and classical plain bouquets. The wedding car was a vintage Rolls Royce which was fantastic and looked great with the back drop of Great Fosters for the photos. For the entertainment we had a harpist for the canapés in the gardens, a personalised quiz over dinner for all the tables to bond over and then in the evening a brilliant band who played our first dance – Better When We are Together by Jack Johnson. For the favours we had personalised envelopes with Vintage Rose seeds for the ladies and Chilli seeds for the men for them to take home and plant and remember the day by. My dress was all lace with a long trail and a small belt with a vintage buckle. It was fitted,

Getting Married Magazine Summer 2014

as being petite a lot of the bigger dresses did not suit me as well. It was part of the Augusta Jones collection brought from Windsor Brides. I had a long veil to match and pearl and diamante earrings and braclet.

What are your main memories of the actual day?

The ceremony itself was a real highlight – walking in the beautiful church and seeing Andy and all our friends and family was amazing! Also we took 15 minutes out after the ceremony to go on a longer drive in the car together and stopped off to enjoy ‘that first feeling of being married’ and the champagne before heading to the venue. The speeches were fab too and announcing the answers/ winning team of the quiz and the sweep stake from the speeches time was very funny too. My final highlight was everyone dancing at the end to the band and looking around seeing everyone enjoying themselves together.

Where did you go on honeymoon?

On honeymoon we took 3.5 weeks off and went to South America to Peru to track the Inca trail for 5 days which was the most magical experience ever, especially after all the busyness of the last few weeks leading up to the wedding. You can see why it is one of the 7 wonders of the world! After the Inca trail we went onto the Amazon for 4 days and went Piranha fishing and lots of trips on the lakes to see giant river otters, monkeys and crocodiles. Finally we went on to Tulum in Mexico for a week of relaxation in the sun. Here we swam with dolphins and visited the Mayan ruins (another one of the 7 wonders) and just chilled out before heading home.

Marriage

MATTERS

Dispelling the myths and negativity surrounding pre-nuptial agreements

Nobody likes to think about the possibility of a marriage unravelling before it has even begun, and indeed the very prospect is one that never even crosses the minds of couples in the love-fuelled throngs of wedding day anticipation. The suggestion by one partner to another is often deemed as an insult or ‘red flag’ that they are perhaps doubting the solidity of the relationship. This negative implication, combined with the power of overriding love and positivity, means many couples neglect to draw up a pre-nuptial agreement prior to marrying. For those whose wedding does unfortunately end in divorce, this is often a major regret, which is why it is always advisable to pre-outline details of a division of assets in the event of separation. The best time to do this is in the early stages of a relationship, when love and affection guarantee agreement to the fairest separation of material possessions. Ironically, the ability to adopt this all-important and rather ‘black and white’ mind set surrounding finances is something many Taking steps to couples struggle to do ensure your assets until the very issues and resentments it is designed are looked after is to protect against have an important part come into play.

of planning a life together

THE PROFESSIONAL APPROACH The pre-nuptial agreement may not be as romantic or exciting as picking a dress or choosing a wedding venue but it should be an essential part of your wedding planning. In a society where brides and grooms often own their own homes and have significant savings or investments prior to entering a marriage or are likely to inherit assets during the course of the marriage, a pre-nuptial agreement can offer peace of mind and security should the marriage breakdown. Following the landmark case in 2010 of Radmacher v Granatino and the Law Commission recommendations in 2014, a court should give effect to a pre-nuptial agreement that is freely entered into unless it would be unfair to hold the parties to the agreement in the circumstances. A pre-nuptial agreement is therefore a worthwhile investment and will last a lot longer than the flowers and cake. At Ascot Lawyers we are experienced in this area and can advise you on the circumstances the court will consider and draft a pre-nuptial agreement that is right for you and your fiancé. We offer a free 30 minute consultation and will provide you with all the information you need so that you can get on with planning the fun stuff for the big day. DECISIONS,

DECISIONS... Choosing a pair of wedding shoes is possibly one of the hardest footware decisions of a woman’s life. Ordinarily, impluse prevails over logic, and whether we can walk in our chosen footwear purchase is often second to how pretty they look when standing still. With wedding shoes, we can’t afford to be quite so dismissive in the comfort stakes. Not only must our shoes be irresistable to look at, they must keep our feet perfecty cushioned, supported and blister-free. The challenge is one that even the most adept of shoe shoppers often struggle with, though luckily there is hope beyond the high street.

Heart

MINI-MOON Discover the latest way to take your first holiday as man and wife

Going on a long haul holiday the day after your wedding may have been the norm once upon a time, but today’s newlyweds are preferring a ‘short but sweet’ approach to post-nuptial getaways. Far from the traditional honeymoon being downgraded or ‘condensed’, the increasingly popular ‘Mini-moon’ is seen as a prequel to a more extravagent and luxurious holiday in the not too distant future. By putting the ‘real deal’ honeymoon on hold, it allows couples the time they need to save for their perfect holiday, not to mention giving them the opportunity to still have something to look foward to months or even a year after the actual wedding day has passed.

The PERFECT WEDDING...

TEA!

After a whilrlwind romance, Angela and Tim enjoyed the ultimate traditional wedding day - with a few personal touches

‘We were greeted with a can of lager for Tim and a cup of tea in a pink cup and saucer for me!’

TO A

weddings I had pinched some ideas from them. My Mum lives about an hour away and Tim was happy for me to do most of the organising (I am a bit of a control freak anyway) so it was mainly me that did everything. What was the inspiration behind chosen themes/venues? We looked at various venues but they didn’t offer everything we wanted. Eventually Tim said ‘you work in a hotel that offers everything we want, ’ so I spoke to the GM of the hotel to ask if it would be alright, and he said yes. Lily from the conference and events team was fantastic and Kasia and Marcin on the day were just amazing, even greeting us at the door with a can of lager for Tim and a cup of tea in a pink cup and saucer for me - they know me too well! We had friends and family fly in from America and Greece, and others who came from Manchester and Wales, so it made it easier for them as they could stay at the hotel and the church was only half a mile up the road. We just wanted to make it as simple and easy for people as possible. Describe the details of the day. My dress was lace and tuelle. I knew what style of dress I didn’t want but didnt really know what I did want. I certainly didn’t want a lacey big princess dress, but when I tried it on I knew the lacey big princess dress was the one.

How long have you been together and where did you meet? We met on an internet dating site! He sent me a message early one sunday morning and we chatted for a while, but I was meeting the girls for brunch so had to sign off. He assumed this was an excuse to stop chatting, but I messaged him later on in the day. The next week we met for a quick coffee and things developed quickly from there. Where, when and how did the proposal happen? Well, I didnt actually get a proposal!! We had spoken about what we were looking for in life and seemed to be on the same wavelength (marriage/kids etc). One day whilst out shopping he said why don’t we look at rings. He bought me the first one I tried on, nothing else compared to it. Our official engagement date is April 1st. A lot of people thought we were having an April fool as we had only been together for three months by then, but it would have been my Grannys 100th birthday on that day which is why we chose it. How did you find the wedding planning process? It was ok. I organise functions at work and I enjoy doing it so I just made a lot of lists. I bought (too many!) wedding magazines to get some ideas, but having been to a lot of www.gettingmarriedmagazine.co.uk

The colour theme was pink. One of the weddings we had at the hotel a few years ago had a pink rolls royce and I was smitten by it. Tim wasn’t so sure but I loved it! The cake was very important as my Grandad was a baker, so it had to look good and taste even better. Katie at Little Cow Cakes took my ideas and made them into a fantastic 3 tier cake with lace detail to match my dress. I had a topper made to go on the cake which was a surprise for Tim, me in my dress and him in an Arsenal shirt. I had my good friend Emma as bridesmaid and my Mum and Dads next door neighbours as my flower girls. They have never been flowergirls before so were super excited.Their dresses were almost smaller versions of mine, and Emma’s dress came from the same place I brought my dress which made things so much easier. The flowers were organised by a lovely lady called Anne Harris she works locally from home and was able to transform my ideas of ‘I’d like pink-ish flowers’ (neither of us are great horticulturists!) to some of the most stunning wedding flowers I’ve seen. My Mum had a flower called stephanosis in her own bridal bouquet and it’s one of her favourite flowers so Anne put some in my bouquet and also in her mother of the bride corsage, just to carry on the tradition.

We had a caricaturist during the canapes drawing pictures of the wedding guests and a photo booth in the evening, which was great fun. Even my Godparents who are in their 80’s said how much fun they had dressing up in wigs to have their photos taken. For the kids we had a bouncy castle which kept them entertained and meant that their parents had a chance to socialise in peace. In the evening we had a dj who was just fantastic and kept the dance floor filled till 1am! What are the main memories of the actual day? What key moments stood out? The wedding service in the church was amazing, I wasn’t nervous or emotional and neither was Tim. There’s nothing worse than a bride or groom blubbering through their vows! I sing in the Maidenhead Community Choir and they sang three songs whilst we signed the register. I managed to sing the final song with them which was great fun and very different to a normal church service. At the end the heavens opened and it was bucketing down with rain. The vicar said we could stay in the church to have photos taken as there wasn’t another wedding that day. We had a fantastic photographer Richard Jones and he took some lovely shots in the church in front of the stained glass window, something we wouldn’t have had if it were sunny. Having my Godparents there was a real thrill for me as they flew in from America especially for the wedding. My Godfather also did a reading in the church which was lovely. We did the speeches first before we had dinner which was a great idea as it got them over and done with so that Tim and my Dad could enjoy dinner. Tim’s best man John was in Australia at the time so the Toast master David Macleod read out his speech as a surprise for Tim. I had spent time working in Greece and a tradition at a Greek wedding is to go around the table and ‘clink’ glasses with everyone. We did this in between courses and it was great because we can say that we spoke to everyone at the wedding breakfast, even if it was for a very short time. We also wanted our evening guests to feel special so we organised arrival drinks for them and we made certain that we were in the foyer area ready to greet them, we have had so much feedback to say what a nice idea it was. Where did you go on honeymoon? We had three nights in Rome straight after the wedding and then we plan to go to New York in December for our main honeymoon for sightseeing, shopping and to visit family.

FACE LIFTS

Simple tricks to give your skin a boost

Achieving a fresh, glowing and youthful complexion is top of many a bride-to-be’s ‘to do’ list. Besides stepping up your everyday cleanse, tone and moisturise routine, there are additional steps you can take to give your face a bit of a ‘lift’ (in the non-surgical sense of course) before your big day. We’re not talking expensive face creams or salon treatments; these tips are simple and - in some cases completely free. FACIAL MASSAGE Anyone who has had a facial before will know how glowing skin looks after an hour’s concentrated TLC. A facial massage not only boosts circulation and aids skin cell renewal, it also helps to nourish and moisturise. The benefits are cumulative, so if you do it regularly as part of your skincare routine, your skin will certainly benefit. The good news is that you don’t need to rely on a professional to take on this advice. Give yourself a facial massage once a week whilst you relax in the bath. Just1015 minutes of small circular motions around the eye socket, chin line and forehead using a high quality oil (we love Clarins Blue Orchid face treatment oil from www.clarins.co.uk) will leave you relaxed and your skin glowing.

EXFOLIATE Exfoliation is the most overlooked stage of skincare, with many of us skimping in the sloughing stakes. Exfoliating not only helps to remove dead surface skin cells, it also boost circulation and gives the skin a youthful glow that only the dermalogical equivilant of ‘polishing’ can. By exfoliating with a quality product (we love Estelle & Thild Micro Scub Lily from www.estellethild.se) in the weeks leading up to your wedding (and thereafter) you’ll not only help your skin to take on a healthy sheen, you’ll also reduce the likelihood of any pre-wedding breakouts. EYEBROW THREADING The shape and colour of our eyebrows lends significantly to the overall balance of our features, with sleek and professionally shaped brows helping to accentuate and frame the eyes. If you haven’t had your eyebrows threaded before, then this simple treatment could help give your face that new, fresh edge you are looking for on your wedding day. FACE MASKS Face packs are a beauty treatment most of us will only think to use now and then. Most of the time, this is whenever that tube of year old mud mask happens to surface from the back of the bathroom cupboard, reminding us of our failed good intentions to regularly invest 15 minutes in our skin. When it comes to face masks, you don’t need to spend a fortune on plush products. A home-made mask concoction of mashed avocado and coconut oil can work just as well. Indulging your skin once a week will compliment your bride-to-be skincare regime and also give you that all-important time out you need to resume calm amidst wedding planning chaos. We love Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask, (www.antipodesnature.com) which delivers an intensely moisturising, cleansing and antioxidising treatment. www.gettingmarriedmagazine.co.uk
