THOUGH MAY IS TRADITIONALLY A TIME TO CELEBRATE MOTHERS, AT BRENTWOOD LIFESTYLE, WE WANT TO TAKE THIS CHANCE TO RECOGNIZE ALL OF THE STRONG LADIES IN OUR COMMUNITY. From activists, entrepreneurs and CEOs to artists, teachers and, yes, mothers, these women are changing our community’s landscape and influencing its future. In this month's feature article, you’ll meet some of them and learn about the impact they have. You may even catch a few of them around town! Since May also brings the start of spring and, often, warmer weather, you’ll also find the perfect place to take a girl’s getaway to make the most out of bluer skies. Round up the women who make life fun and hit the road. Our guide will help you plan the perfect trip and make sure you have fun—and plenty of things to do—while you're away. We'll also bring you inside a local feminine space and share some favorite items from a local duo. So, when we’re celebrating the mothers in our lives, we’ll also raise a glass to all of the

JESSICA WILKERSON, PRINCIPAL INTERIOR DESIGNER AT O.P. JENKINS, HAS ONE STARTING POINT WHEN CREATING A PLAN FOR CLIENTS: GET TO KNOW THEM WELL AND LEARN THEIR NEEDS AND INTERESTS. For a stay-at-home mom with a love for France, Jessica designed cozy yet elegant spaces that radiate that fine French flair, from the soft floral patterns on a chair to a lantern’s curve. “I believe that each room should have a welcoming sense of continuity that peacefully flows from the adjoining spaces and tells a story without repeating itself,” Jessica says. In this case, the story starts in the breakfast room just off the kitchen. Here, fresh flowers accent the marble top table, a perfect place for the toddler to sit and color. The tufted chairs—a beautiful, deep blue—are covered in a durable fabric, ready to withstand all the toddler tromping that they will almost certainly receive—French flair meets family function. The continuity of style flows to the reading room, a quieter space not connected to the kitchen. Here, pinstriped accent pillows grace the white armchairs, inviting a busy mom to take some well-deserved time for herself in a room of her own.

Katie Nelson takes pride in providing patrons with a laid-back atmosphere that’s comfortable and unpretentious. Katy, an experienced educator and former lead teacher, knows the power of personalized learning to unlock student success. “On a microscale, this means that more individuals will be able to live out their potential,” she says. “On a macroscale, this means more qualified and motivated workers, more engaged and responsible citizens, and more innovative and diverse leaders.” May 2018 | Brentwood Lifestyle

BRENTWOOD JEWELRY, THE ANSWER TO BRENTWOOD’S JEWELRY QUESTIONS FOR OVER HALF A CENTURY NOW, ANYONE IN TOWN ON A TREASURE HUNT FOR WORLD-CLASS JEWELRY, WATCHES AND GIFTS NEED NOT VENTURE FAR FROM HOME. That’s because Brentwood Jewelry has been treating its customers as the true treasure since 1967. Founder Salem Emamalie insists upon it, leading by example. The gifted artisan-innovator—a descendant of a long line of jewelers—continues to design, craft and sign personalized pieces of adornment here in Brentwood through his Salem E brand, providing each patron with a unique, affordable and one-of-a-kind exemplar of his artistry.

Brentwood Lifestyle | May 2018
At Brentwood Jewelry, a feeling of family pervades. There are no bars on the windows or buzzers on the doors. The staff’s goal is not to make a high-pressure sale, but to provide patrons with the best price, service and quality, whether that be for something as modest as a battery for a watch to something as elaborate as a customized wedding ring. It is also a place where the patron is empowered to participate. Salem and his jewelers take the time to listen and to learn what a patron truly wants, helping each customer realize his or her ideal vision through counter sketches, then renderings, then models. It is extra effort, but it is time well-spent. It affords patrons complete input into the final product and allows them to make any changes they wish along the way.Â

SUMMER CAMPS CAMPS TO CHECK OUT FOR YOUR KIDS THIS SUMMER ARTICLE WILLIAM HARWOOD
FOR PARENTS OF SCHOOL-AGE KIDS, THE MONTH OF MAY INVARIABLY BRINGS THOUGHTS OF JUNE SUMMER CAMPS. The best camps keep kids safe while engaging their minds, bodies and spirits, helping campers develop new interests and skills even as they make new friends. Here are some camps Brentwood Lifestyle really likes. The Nashville Predators has two cool camps— literally. Sk8 to Gr8 and the Nashville Predators Hockey School offer on-ice and off-ice coaching from Olympic figure skaters and Predators players and coaches. Campers experience exciting challenges that strengthen each camper’s strength, agility and knowledge of the respective sports while team-building activities help melt the ice and form fast friendships. But some kids would rather skate onto a stage. For young musicians, there’s School of Rock. This camp offers a unique opportunity for kids of any skill level to learn how to play in a band and perform for friends and family. Campers not only get the opportunity to play instruments that might be of interest to them, but they form lasting bonds—and sometimes bands!—with like-minded students that last well past camp. Perhaps your kid gets his or her kicks with actual kicks. For him or her, check out David Deaton’s Karate Camp. Now in its 48th season, this caring camp with a family of instructors teaches children how to safely avoid dangerous situations or manage situations if they do occur. The self-defense skills are easily learned and deal with stranger danger, bullies and what to do when parents aren’t around. For young naturalists, there's Mr. Bond’s Science Guys. For more than 20 years, Mr. Bond and his trained team of lab-coat-wearing leaders have inspired kids to love science through hands-on demonstrations that promote problem-solving skills and teamwork in a fun and friendly setting.
