LIFESTYLE LETTER

You Must Nourish to Flourish As we step into the heart of winter, it’s a good time to reflect on the importance of health and wellness in our daily lives. Self-care is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. Taking time for a self-audit of your physical, mental, and emotional health can lead to meaningful improvements in your quality of life. Are you getting enough rest, nourishment, and movement? Are you nurturing your mental well-being through connection, mindfulness, or simple joy? Life moves fast, but prioritizing your health allows you to show up for others and for yourself. This past year has been a roller coaster for me and healthcare...being the care taker of my sick Mom, attending lots of doctor appointments and learning so much behind the scenes about the importance of taking care of yourself and even battling some of my own health and wellness needs. One thing I know is, we must fill our own cup before we are able to fill others. We are no good for those we love, if we wear ourselves down and don't restore our own needs. My body and mind were hit hard this year while I was juggling many strains and challenges in my personal life and I realized quickly I had to seek help. This issue is dedicated to helping you recharge, set intentions, find resources and embrace small habits that create lasting change. Take this as your reminder to make space for self-care—you deserve it. We all deserve it. I hope this issue helps ignite a spark of change in us all. And to do so, LCL will also be hosting our Nourish to Flourish Lunch & Learn event on January 23rd. I have invited several local, incredible health and wellness experts and friends to join us for a panel style Q & A lunch and learn event. You don't want to miss this! Tickets are available in our link in our bio on our Instagram page. Our bodies are our greatest assets, deserving care and respect. Taking time to refuel with nourishing foods, rest, and movement recharges our energy and strengthens our resilience. Self-care isn't selfish; it's essential. Love your body by honoring its needs, embracing balance, and making space for moments that rejuvenate. When we prioritize our well-being, we show up stronger for ourselves and others. I hope you find this issue resourceful and it inspires you to reset, recharge and refuel.

A Chance to Live Again Local Trauma Surgeon Gives People and Pets a Second Chance at Life Dr. Habeeba Park’s journey to becoming a trauma surgeon wasn’t an ordinary one. It was shaped by resilience, a passion for learning, and an unwavering commitment to make a difference in the lives of those she treats. For 17 years, Dr. Park has built a career around saving lives, particularly in critical and high-pressure environments. As the Associate Trauma Medical Director at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital in Lebanon, she has helped lead the development of the hospital's trauma care program, providing life-saving care to patients across a vast region. As the eldest of nine siblings in a family facing both financial struggles and personal adversity, she watched her father and mother make sacrifices to care for them, inspiring Dr. Park’s determination to pursue her dreams. From a young age, she was captivated by the human body and how it functioned. "I was always fascinated with the human body and how it worked," she recalls, spending hours drawing anatomy illustrations while sewing and mending clothes for her siblings— activities that unknowingly laid the foundation for her future in surgery.

After completing her medical education, Dr. Park became a general surgeon and specialized in trauma and critical care. She honed her skills at the prestigious University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, one of the busiest and most renowned trauma centers in the world. It was here that she faced the most severe and complex cases, from car accidents to gunshot wounds, often working alongside military medical teams in situations comparable to battlefield injuries. Despite the high demands of her work, Dr. Park’s decision to relocate to Tennessee was motivated by both personal and professional considerations. Her husband, a former US Army service member, was returning home to Robertson County, and Dr. Park was offered the opportunity to help build Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital's new trauma program.

"I reached out to my friends at Vanderbilt, and they created this position for me," she says. Along with Dr. Andrew Hopper, the hospital’s trauma medical director, Dr. Park helped establish the hospital’s Level 3 trauma center, which serves a broad area from Gallatin to Chattanooga. While trauma surgery is often described as "high-stakes" medicine, it is also a deeply personal mission for Dr. Park. "It's about giving people a chance to live again," she says. As the leader of the trauma team, Dr. Park is at the helm during critical moments, but she is quick to emphasize that trauma care is a team effort. Nurses, physical therapists, techs, and physicians from various disciplines work together to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.

Despite the intensity of her work, Dr. Park maintains a strong sense of balance in her life. Her family, including her husband, children, and a growing collection of rescue animals, provide her with a sense of grounding. "I’m lucky to have such a supportive community here in Lebanon," she says. Outside of medicine, Dr. Park enjoys spending time on her farm, where she connects with nature and the agricultural community that surrounds her. In addition to her medical practice, Dr. Park is passionate about trauma prevention and community education. Through initiatives like the "Stop the Bleed" program, she teaches people how to respond to life-threatening injuries and potentially save lives. "Trauma prevention is key," she explains, "and empowering the community with knowledge can make all the difference in a crisis." For Dr. Park, trauma surgery is more than just a career—it’s a calling. With her expertise and leadership, she is helping to reshape the future of trauma care in Wilson County while staying true to her roots and passion for serving others.

LAURA WOSIAK’S BREATHWORK JOURNEY TO EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL EMPOWERMENT ARTICLE BY LINDSEY HICKMAN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY MICRO MOMENTS PHOTOGRAPHY

For Laura Wosiak, breathwork became a life-changing practice, born out of a desire to manage stress and anxiety. Her introduction to this transformative technique came through her husband, Tomasz Wosiak, who had attended Rebirthing Breathwork sessions in Nashville. Inspired by his Winter Expedition with Wim Hof in Poland in 2020, Laura decided to explore breathwork herself. What she found was not just a tool for stress management but a gateway to personal transformation. “I started using breathwork to cope with anxiety, but it became so much more than that,” Laura explains. “It’s a powerful tool for self-discovery, emotional regulation, and physical wellness.” Through conscious breathing, she experienced improved mental clarity, emotional balance, and a greater sense of resilience. "Breathwork is the conscious practice of using the breath to promote emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. By intentionally modulating breath, practice can regulate emotions, reduce stress, and achieve deeper self-awareness, explains Laura, “Slow, deep breathing induces relaxation and inner harmony, while faster, more intense breathing techniques help release suppressed emotions and support personal growth, calming the nervous system." “Unfortunately, many breathe unconsciously or inefficiently, which can lead to stress, anxiety, and chronic health issues,” she continues, “Through practices like Rebirthing, breathwork can improve mental clarity, boost energy, enhance immune function, and promote emotional healing.” This passion led Laura to become a certified breathwork facilitator, launching Boundless Breathwork, where she now offers one-on-one Rebirthing Breathwork sessions, group workshops, corporate Lunch & Learns as well as cold plunge and sauna education. She even recently wrote a book in Polish, her native first language, about breathwork and self-discovery. “Writing the book was a way for me to share my knowledge with my Polish roots and help others on their own journeys of growth,” she says. Her goal is to share the benefits of breathwork with others, whether in-person or online. FOR THOSE LOOKING TO BRING BREATHWORK INTO THEIR DAILY LIVES, LAURA OFFERS THREE SIMPLE TECHNIQUES: 1. Conscious Breathing: Start by noticing your breath. Pay attention to moments when you hold your breath or breathe shallowly. Awareness is the first step toward change. 2. Create a Pause: In stressful situations, take 3-5 conscious, connected breaths to pause and regulate your emotions before responding. 3. Square Breathing: In high-stress moments, try 4x4x4x4 square breathing: inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 4, and hold for 4. This simple technique is used by US Marines and first responders to stay calm under pressure. As Laura says, “Breathing properly is the foundation of good health. It’s the most important thing we do.” Visit boundlessbreathwork.com to learn more.

“COLD WEATHER CAN BE VERY DRYING, SO IT’S ESSENTIAL TO KEEP SKIN HYDRATED.” As winter sets in, the cold, dry air can take a toll on your skin, leaving it feeling dull and dehydrated. To maintain a healthy, glowing complexion during the colder months, it’s important to focus on hydration, gentle exfoliation, and protection. Annie White, owner of The Refinery, can help you get the right skincare routine and treatments, in order to combat the effects of winter weather and keep your skin looking its best. From soothing moisturizers to powerful serums, here are some essential tips and treatments to boost your winter skincare routine and restore your skin’s natural radiance. 1. Hydrate Inside and Out Cold weather can be very drying, so it’s essential to keep skin hydrated. I recommend ZO Skin Health Hydrating

Crème—it’s packed with soothing ingredients to combat dryness and inflammation. 2. Gentle Exfoliation Winter can lead to a buildup of dead skin cells, which dulls the complexion. Use a gentle exfoliant like the ZO Exfoliating Polish 2-3 times a week to keep skin smooth and glowing. 3. Protect Your Skin Barrier A compromised skin barrier is common in winter. ZO Skin Health Growth Factor Serum is perfect for strengthening the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines, and improving overall resilience. 4. Don’t Skip Sunscreen Even in winter, UV rays can damage the skin, especially with sunlight reflecting off

snow. The ZO Daily Sheer SPF 50 is lightweight, hydrating, and provides strong protection without feeling greasy. 5. Humidify Your Space Indoor heating can really dry out the skin, so a humidifier can make a big difference. This pairs well with using a richer moisturizer in the evening to lock in hydration. TREATMENTS TO BOOST WINTER SKIN HEALTH: 1. Lumecca IPL Photofacial Ideal for treating pigmentation and sun damage that may have accumulated over the summer. It brightens and evens out the skin tone, perfect for a refreshed look in winter. 2. Microneedling with PRP A great treatment to boost collagen and improve texture. It’s especially helpful in winter to address dullness and dryness by stimulating skin renewal. 3. Chemical Peels Our ZO 3-Step Peel is fantastic for exfoliating and rejuvenating the skin, giving clients a fresh, bright glow that’s often harder to achieve in the colder months.

EA R AWAKEN YOUR HEALTH AND MITIGATE STRESS WITH CRYSTAL HORNE ARTICLE BY LINDSEY HICKMAN

24

S ELF CA R E | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS

“Prioritize self-care, passion, boundaries— give yourself permission to rest and heal.” The start of a new year brings a fresh opportunity to reset, refocus, and rejuvenate. But for some, the idea of embracing change can feel overwhelming, especially if you're already stretched thin. Crystal Horne, founder of Awaken Health Coaching, understands the challenge of balancing personal health with life’s demands. After becoming a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDNP) in 2017, Crystal realized that while many people yearn to heal and improve their health, they often don’t have the physical or mental capacity to make the changes they desire. "I’ve been in burnout more than once," Crystal says. "It steals your joy, peace, and passion. But I believe with the right strategy, burnout can be prevented." If you're feeling drained and overwhelmed as you step into the new year, Crystal has three strategies that can help you avoid burnout and reclaim your health. FILL UP YOUR TANK DAILY Start each day with intention. Crystal recommends a blend of practical and spiritual steps to nourish both your body and mind: • Morning prayer, scripture reading, and worship • Sunlight exposure and a 30-minute walk • Breathwork and lymphatic drainage • Eating high-protein meals and staying hydrated • Daily exercise and quality rest "By setting the tone each day, you begin to fill your cup so you can pour into others."

PURSUE YOUR PASSION When life feels like a constant grind, reconnect with what excites and energizes you. "Find what lights you up and make time for it," Crystal says. When passion is combined with practical self-care, burnout becomes less likely, and success becomes more achievable. SET BOUNDARIES To avoid burnout, you must take control of your time. Crystal emphasizes the importance of setting boundaries, whether at work or in your personal life. "Schedule intentional breaks, vacations, and time for family, nature, or hobbies," she advises. By keeping a clear line between work and personal time, you can give each part of your life your full attention. TAKING ACTION If you’re already deep into burnout, don’t worry—there’s hope. Crystal encourages you to start implementing these steps, even if it feels difficult. “It’s important to prioritize self-care, passion, and boundaries, then give yourself permission to rest and heal.” At Awaken Health Coaching, Crystal and her husband, Israel, work with clients to uncover the root causes of health issues using functional lab testing, biofeedback, and muscle testing. Their goal is to help individuals take control of their health and heal from the inside out. If you're ready to start your healing journey, visit AwakenHealthSolutions. com or connect on Facebook and Instagram @AwakenhHealthSolutions This year, invest in yourself—your health, your passion, and your peace of mind. The best time to start is now.

GET REGULATED

NERVOUS SYSTEM REGULATION TIPS FOR A HEALTHIER YEAR AHEAD ARTICLE BY LINDSEY HICKMAN PHOTOGRAPHY BY ELYSIAN BOURNE PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGING

As the New Year unfolds, many of us set resolutions to improve our health—whether it's getting in shape, eating better, or managing stress more effectively. But what if you could take a deeper, more foundational approach to your health this year? Dr. Mike Shaub, D.C., owner of Well Health & Chiropractic in Lebanon, believes the key to lasting wellness lies in something many of us overlook: the health of your nervous system. For Dr. Shaub, chiropractic care isn’t just about relieving back pain—it's about unlocking the body’s natural ability to heal and function at its best. His passion for chiropractic care started as a personal journey, influenced by his own experiences as a high school and

28

FAM ILY CA R E | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS

college football player. Two car accidents and years of physical strain led him to seek chiropractic care himself, and the results spoke for themselves. Now, he dedicates his life to helping others achieve better health through nervous system regulation. THE BODY'S SELF-HEALING DESIGN "Our bodies are designed to heal themselves," says Dr. Shaub. "The brain and nervous system are the control center for everything in your body. Chiropractic works directly with the nervous system, improving the function of the nerves that coordinate every process, from breathing to digestion to movement." By keeping the nervous

system in balance, chiropractic care helps ensure the body can function at its optimal level. But Dr. Shaub doesn’t just focus on spinal adjustments. At Well Health, they take a holistic approach to healing, incorporating a range of therapies to help the body heal faster and more effectively. From Red Light Therapy to stem cell activation, the goal is to give your body the maximum healing power it needs to overcome stress, fatigue, and other health challenges that many of us face in the New Year. THE 80/20 RULE: NUTRITION FOR A BALANCED LIFE Dr. Shaub emphasizes the importance of nutrition as part of a holistic wellness plan. He follows and teaches his patients the 80/20 rule when it comes to diet. “80% of your food should be clean, organic, non-GMO, and gluten-free,” he explains. "This includes whole, nutrient-dense foods that fuel your body." The remaining 20%? “This is for the occasional indulgence — vacations, dining out, or birthday parties. Life is about balance.” By focusing on whole, nutrient-dense foods most of the time, you can give your body the fuel it needs to thrive. Proper nutrition supports the nervous system, strengthens the immune system, and helps the body heal more quickly from injuries or stress. SUPPORTING NERVOUS SYSTEM HEALTH WITH ADVANCED THERAPIES Cutting-edge therapies available at Well work together with chiropractic care to enhance your nervous system’s function, leading to better sleep, increased energy, and overall improved health in the New Year. • Red Light Therapy Overcome sleep issues, low energy, and inflammation. Red Light Therapy stimulates cellular healing, improves blood flow, reduces pain, and boosts vitality. • Nano-Silver Known as “God’s antibiotic,” Nano-Silver helps destabilize abnormal cells, supporting your immune system and aiding your body in fighting illness. • Zyto Machine Biofeedback Technology Identify nutrient deficiencies in your body. The Zyto machine provides insight into what your body needs, allowing Dr. Shaub to recommend targeted supplements and dietary adjustments to support your nervous system. • Stem Cell Therapy Photo Therapy Activate your body’s "sleeping" stem cells using copper peptides. This advanced therapy accelerates healing, supports cellular regeneration, and helps your body recover from chronic pain, old injuries, or daily wear and tear. A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO NEW YEAR’S WELLNESS As we enter the New Year, many of us are looking for ways to improve our health and live more intentionally. Dr. Shaub’s approach to nervous system regulation through chiropractic care, nutrition, and advanced therapies offers a powerful foundation for health that goes beyond quick fixes or fleeting resolutions. By focusing on the nervous system, the body’s self-healing ability, and a balanced lifestyle, you can experience more energy, better sleep, and greater overall well-being in the year ahead. “Health is a journey,” says Dr. Shaub. “It’s about taking care of your body on a deeper level, so it can take care of you for years to come.” With his holistic approach, patients of Well Health & Chiropractic can take meaningful steps toward lasting wellness, not just in the New Year, but for years to come. He’s seen firsthand the countless hours that coaches, volunteers, and families dedicate to making these programs a success, and believes their contributions deserve far more recognition. Nick’s passion for sports runs deep. He and his wife, Brandy, both grew up playing sports and have passed that love down to their three children—Brody, Cooper, and Hadley—who are all involved in local athletic programs. Over the years, Nick has met many incredible people through sports, forming connections that have lasted well beyond the playing field. As a small business owner

in Lebanon, he believes in treating every transaction as a partnership rather than just a deal, with a focus on strengthening the bonds that make the town so special. Nick and Brandy moved to Lebanon after they got married, and it was here where Nick’s career at Sports World took off. Having worked in every facet of the business for 18 years, it was a natural progression for Nick to take over when his father-in-law decided to sell. Sports World has been a family-owned business since 1990, and Nick continues that legacy with pride, always aiming to give back to the community that has supported him and his family. The ERDie Project’s Fight for a Cure for Pediatric Bone Cancer

Honoring Emma When Emma Ryleigh Dixon, known as "ERDie," was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at just 12 years old, her parents, Jeni and Charlie Dixon, never imagined the devastating journey they were about to face. Over the next 27 months, Emma endured chemotherapy, multiple surgeries, and clinical trials, always with a bright smile and a fighting spirit that inspired everyone around her. Tragically, Emma passed away in April 2022, but her parents were determined to ensure her legacy would live on. In honor of their daughter, Jeni and Charlie founded The ERDie Project to raise funds for pediatric bone cancer research and to provide financial assistance to families in similar situations.

The ERDie Project was born out of their heartbreak but also their unwavering commitment to making sure that Emma’s life and fight were not in vain. “Emma was our hero,” Jeni shares. “We want her legacy to help bring about a cure for pediatric bone sarcomas, and to ease the burden on families dealing with this cruel disease.” Through the ERDie Project, they are funding critical research at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and providing assistance to families affected by childhood bone cancer. In 2024, they raised over $130,000 at their annual golf tournament, which helped launch the Emma Ryleigh Dixon Endowment Fund, aimed at advancing research into pediatric bone cancers. Emma’s memory will also be honored with a room dedicated to her at the hospital, where she spent so much of her time during her treatment. "The staff at Vanderbilt were incredible, making her feel comfortable and respected at every stage of her journey," Jeni says. "We want to honor their care and Emma’s spirit with a room that can help others who are facing what she did."

HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE Join the fight to end pediatric bone cancer by attending the Nourish to Flourish Lunch & Learn event on January 23rd at The Arcade in Lebanon, hosted by Lebanon City Lifestyle. All proceeds from this event will benefit The ERDie Project, helping to fund vital research and support services for families facing the battle against childhood bone cancer. GET INVOLVED To learn more about the ERDie Project or to donate, visit theerdieproject.org. Your support can make a lasting difference in the lives of children and families affected by pediatric bone cancer and help ensure that Emma’s legacy continues to inspire hope and change.

New Ye ar I nsu rance He a lth Check Farm Bureau Insurance: Protecting Families, Homes, and Futures

Clint Teasley is passionate about helping families protect what matters most. With a background in law enforcement, Clint transitioned to insurance to continue serving his community in a meaningful way, now as the Agency Manager at Farm Bureau Insurance Lebanon. As part of your new year health checks, he encourages insurance reviews to ensure coverage keeps up with life’s changes. Here are three reasons Clint says reviewing your insurance is a must: 1. Protect Your Home’s Replacement Cost As building materials and labor costs rise, so does the cost to rebuild your home. Clint stresses the importance of updating your home’s replacement cost to avoid being underinsured. "An annual review can help ensure you're not left with outdated coverage," he explains, offering peace of mind in the event of a total loss. 2. Life Changes, Life Coverage Major life events like marriage, children, or acquiring valuables often go unnoticed in insurance coverage. Clint advises clients to review policies after these milestones to ensure new possessions or family members are

properly protected. "A regular check-in ensures your policy evolves with your life," Clint says. 3. Life Insurance: More Than a Death Benefit Life insurance isn’t just for final expenses—it can replace lost income, provide tax-deferred growth, and even transfer wealth tax-free. Clint encourages clients to leverage life insurance as a financial tool, adding, "It’s about protecting your family’s future and maintaining their quality of life." After transitioning from law enforcement, Clint joined Farm Bureau Insurance to balance family life and continue his passion for helping others. He is deeply involved in his community, supporting local events like the Empower Me Center’s Dice and Dreams Night. Clint’s dedication to his clients and community reflects the core values of Farm Bureau Insurance—providing security and peace of mind. He urges everyone to take time this year to review their insurance coverage, ensuring their family’s future is well protected.
