Jim Kinder
The Running Reverend
Jim Kinder, affectionately known as the Running Reverend, is not your typical pastor. While he faithfully serves as the Pastor at the Orange Beach Methodist Church, Reverend Jim also finds solace and strength in his passion for marathon running. His dedication to both his spiritual and physical well-being has made him a source of inspiration and hope in the community.
Reverend Jim’s love for running goes beyond the pursuit of personal fitness. It has become a way for him to connect with his spirituality and find peace amid a busy world. Often seen pounding the pavement in his running attire, he not only trains his body but also nurtures his mind and spirit. Running provides a unique avenue for reflection and prayer. As his feet hit the ground, he finds clarity and a sense of tranquility that allows him to deepen his connection with his faith. It is during these runs that he often finds inspiration for his Sunday sermons, as
the rhythm of his footsteps aligns with the rhythm of his thoughts.
His dedication to serving others extends beyond the pulpit, as he actively seeks opportunities to make a positive impact in the community. People admire his commitment to both his spiritual and physical well-being, as he embodies the values he preaches. Reverend Jim’s enthusiasm for running has inspired others to embark on their fitness journeys, proving that physical activity can be a powerful tool for personal growth and spiritual connection.
As the Running Reverend continues to lace up his running shoes and explore new courses, he remains an influential figure in Orange Beach. His dedication to his faith, his community, and his well-being serves as a shining example of how one individual can make a difference. Whether he is delivering a sermon or crossing the finish line of a marathon, Reverend Jim reminds all of us the importance of nurturing our mind, body, and spirit. Leading fulfilling lives.
“Reverend Jim holds the Alabama one-mile speed record for his age group.”

Clyde May’s Whiskey Heritage
ALABAMA STYLE WHISKEY IS HERE TO STAY
Clyde May’s whiskey is more than just a brand of spirits. It embodies the resilience, determination, and unwavering character of its founder, Clyde May. Born and raised in Alabama during the Great Depression, Clyde’s journey from a young boy raised by his grandparents to a decorated war veteran and renowned moonshiner is the stuff of legends. Today, his legacy lives on through his family, as they continue to craft the finest spirits and expand the brand’s reach. With a new distillery on the horizon, Clyde May’s whiskey is set to make an even greater impact on the local economy and whiskey enthusiasts worldwide.
Clyde May’s story begins in the heart of Alabama, a place known for its rugged way of life during the great depression and seat to some of the most influential people in our nation’s history, including Clyde May. Raised by his grandparents after the passing of his mother at the tender young age of 5, Clyde learned the values of strength, grit, and character at a young age. During the Great Depression, these qualities were vital for survival, and they became the foundation upon which Clyde built his life, family, and his whiskey.
In World War II, Clyde served his country in the Army’s 77th Infantry Division. Leading a 12-rifleman
squad, he displayed remarkable bravery and courage, earning a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. However, fate intervened when Clyde was wounded in battle, forcing him to return home. It was during this time that he began his family and honed his skills as a moonshiner.
Clyde May’s reputation as a moonshiner quickly spread throughout the region. Known for his commitment to quality, he never sold a bottle of moonshine legally in his life. Instead, his spirits were cherished and sought after by his neighbors, who recognized his craftsmanship and dedication. Clyde’s knowledge and techniques were passed down through the generations, from his children to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those generations have worked diligently to make Clyde’s legacy a legend.
In 2001, Clyde’s son Kenny May made the bold decision to bring the family’s whiskey brand into the legal market. With a vision to share Clyde’s legacy with the world, Kenny transformed the family’s moonshine operation into a legitimate business. Today, Clyde May’s whiskey is distributed across the United States and in countries abroad, captivating whiskey enthusiasts with its rich history and exceptional taste.

The new distillery will create job opportunities and contribute to the region’s economy, carrying forward Clyde May’s legacy of hard work and perseverance. It will also serve as a testament to the enduring spirit of Alabama and its vibrant whiskey-making tradition.
Clyde May’s whiskey is more than just a drink; it is a testament to the indomitable spirit of its founder and the generations that followed. From humble beginnings in Alabama to becoming a renowned whiskey brand, Clyde May’s legacy lives on through the commitment to quality and craftsmanship that defines the brand. As the new distillery takes shape in Troy, Alabama, the future looks promising for Clyde May’s whiskey, carrying forward the traditions of true grit and determination that made it a beloved name in the world of spirits.

The Perfect Steak
ARTICLE BY CASEY WEBER, TALL GRASS MEAT COMPANYNothing describes summer better than a good cookout! And what is a cookout without a good, quality steak and the perfect grilling recipe?
1. Thaw and acclimate the steak. For searing to occur, the proteins in steak need to be heated to at least 310°F. Tossing cold meat onto a hot grill lowers the temperature and can prevent a crust from forming, so it’s important that any frozen steaks are thawed completely before cooking.
2. Salt your steak 30-45 minutes before grilling. This causes the salt to draw moisture from within the steak up to the surface, where it dissolves the salt and creates a brine that gets reabsorbed into the steak where it breaks down tough connective tissues.
3. Oil the grate on the grill, not the steak. Use tongs and a paper towel dipped in vegetable oil to lube your grates.
4. Manage your heat well. Remember that your grill needs to be hot for your steak to get a good sear. But if it’s hot enough to cause your oil to smoke, it’s too hot.
5. Use the 60/40 rule. The best-tasting steaks are seared on both sides and cooked evenly in the middle. The simplest way to do that is to only flip your steak once. The 60/40 rule suggests that 60% of your cook time should be spent on one side, and 40% on the other.
6. Keep the lid closed. It may be tempting to peek, but trust the experts and keep it shut! Opening the lid makes your grill lose heat, which makes steaks cook unevenly.
7. Check for doneness. A meat thermometer will give you the most accurate temperature reading:
• Rare: 120°F
• Medium Rare: 130°F
• Medium: 140°F
• Medium Well: 150°F
• Well: 160°F
8. Let your steak rest. Pull your steaks from the grill once they’re cooked to 5-10 degrees below your target temperature and rest for 10-15 minutes.
