Justine Santaniello Brings Big-City Flair to Bergen County

JustineSantaniello

Local Visionary

Bergen County's vibrant community flourishes with the support of one of its most passionate advocates, Justine Santaniello. A longtime on-air lifestyle expert and entrepreneur, Santaniello has built her career around connecting with audiences. Now, through her multifaceted business, JustHaves Studios, she creates opportunities for others to thrive.

For Santaniello, the journey to Bergen County mirrors the familiar story of a city family seeking suburban charm.

“My husband, Dan, grew up in Rivervale and always spoke highly of the area,” she recalls. After an impromptu house hunt in Bergen County, the family found their dream home, moving in just weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped the world.

“It ended up being a blessing in disguise. We got our home at a great time, and this ‘starter’ house became our forever home,” Santaniello reflects.

She quickly discovered that Ridgewood’s community-focused culture was the perfect fit for her family.

“The schools, events, and connections are unmatched. It’s a place where families genuinely support one another,” she shares.

This emphasis on connection inspired Santaniello to move her thriving production business, JustHaves, from

Manhattan to Paramus, making Bergen County the home base for her studio. The facility has since become a creative hub for video production, photography, and collaborative projects.

“Why were we taking our resources to New York when we could invest locally?” she asks. “So many of our freelancers and contributors are in Jersey. It just made sense to bring everything closer to home, and it’s been so rewarding.”

BUILDING COMMUNITY

For Santaniello, it’s about more than business; it’s about giving back to the community that welcomed her family so warmly. Ridgewood’s close-knit atmosphere has been a revelation for her.

“The schools here focus on connecting parents and fostering a real sense of community,” she explains.

“My husband participates in Dad’s Night at Somerville Elementary, and we’ve made lifelong friends. It’s the kind of environment I dreamed of for our kids.”

This community-driven mindset fuels the work at JustHaves Studios. The studio not only produces Santaniello’s nationally syndicated lifestyle show, Lifestyle Today, but also collaborates with local businesses and

content creators. Whether it’s helping a restaurant owner create a promotional YouTube series or providing a space for local influencers to film their podcasts, Santaniello remains committed to uplifting others.

“We recently hosted a photo shoot for a Jersey-based entrepreneur and partnered with a local restaurant to develop their digital content,” she mentions. “There’s a sense of pride in helping people build their brands while staying true to our roots here in Bergen County.”

FROM LOCAL TO NATIONAL

Lifestyle Today, a 30-minute show produced in-house at JustHaves Studios, exemplifies Santaniello’s dynamic approach to content creation. Featuring everything from holiday gift guides to celebrity interviews, the show airs in seven major markets, including New York and New Jersey.

“Instead of traveling for on-air segments, I decided to create my own show where I could spotlight the topics and brands I love—and bring other creators along for the ride,” Santaniello explains. “It’s thrilling to include local businesses and restaurants on a platform that reaches a national audience.”

The show has also become a springboard for initiatives close to Santaniello’s heart, such as supporting Ridgewood’s Feed the Front Lines during the pandemic and collaborating with organizations like Oasis to assist underserved communities.

WHATS NEXT?

As JustHaves Studios continues to grow, Santaniello has big plans.

“I want this studio to be a welcoming resource for anyone—whether you’re a local podcaster, a small business owner, or a content creator. We’re here to make the creative process accessible and enjoyable,” she says.

Santaniello is also passionate about exploring new ventures within the community. She plans to actively engage with local organizations, host workshops, and collaborate with area entrepreneurs to build a network that fosters creativity and growth. Through mentorship and hands-on support, she hopes to empower others to turn their ideas into reality.

“I’d love to see more local podcasts, collaborative projects, and even hyper-local lifestyle shows emerge from this space. The possibilities are endless,” she adds.

For Santaniello, it’s about using her expertise to empower others while celebrating the community that inspires her.

“I want people to know that they’re never too small to dream big, and I’m here to help them bring those dreams to life,” she affirms.

As Bergen County thrives with businesses like JustHaves Studios at its heart, Santaniello’s story reminds us why supporting local matters. It’s not just about boosting the economy; it’s about creating a community where everyone has the opportunity to shine

REVVING UP THE COMMUNITY

“We hope this magazine becomes a reflection of the incredible people and businesses that make this community so special." - Jake Slowinski

THE LAUNCH OF NORTHERN HIGHLANDS CITY LIFESTYLE

This October, Northern Highlands City Lifestyle marked its grand debut with a spectacular launch party and ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Jack Daniels Porsche Showroom in Upper Saddle River. The event brought together local leaders, business owners, magazine partners, and community members for an evening dedicated to celebrating connection, collaboration, and the unique spirit of Bergen County.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony with the North Jersey Chamber of Commerce was a highlight of the evening, symbolizing more than just the launch of a magazine—it marked the creation of a platform designed to connect, inspire, and elevate the community. Upper Saddle River Mayor Arman Fardanesh officiated the ceremony alongside Jack Daniels Porsche COO John Nunley, Peter Helou, Jack Daniels Porsche General Manager, City Lifestyle Publishers Anthony Rizzo and Jake Slowinski, Upper Saddle River council members Donna Friedlander and Joanne Florio, Allendale Councilman Daloisio, and other notable figures. Together, they celebrated a shared mission of fostering community and supporting local businesses.

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

The launch event reflected the magazine’s mission to build a foundation of collaboration and community connection, with a focus on supporting and highlighting local businesses. The Jack Daniels Porsche Showroom served as the perfect backdrop for the festivities, with its sleek and modern design setting the tone for an evening of innovation and celebration.

Guests enjoyed handcrafted cocktails by Born to Rum and a curated selection of culinary delights from Iachetti’s Kitchen. Adding a sweet touch to the evening, Curbside Confections delighted attendees with treats from their candy truck.

The excitement peaked with the unveiling of Porsche’s groundbreaking 2024 Macan EV, a sleek and technologically advanced vehicle that embodied the forward-thinking spirit of the event.

The event space came alive with stunning balloon installations by Balloon Chica and elegant floral arrangements by Wyckoff Florist & Gifts, creating a visually stunning atmosphere. Entertainment was provided by JJ Entertainment, whose lively DJ sets and photo booth kept the energy high throughout the night. Every moment was beautifully captured by ML Creative Company and NBPro Media, ensuring the memories will live on through stunning photography and videography. Guests were greeted by a custom sign from CXB Designs, adding a warm and personalized touch.

The evening’s success was due to the collaboration and creativity of talented partners and vendors, with special thanks to EMLABDON Events for their expert planning and coordination, ensuring every detail of the event ran seamlessly.

A GROWING COMMUNITY

The journey of Northern Highlands City Lifestyle is rooted in the passion of its founders. Publishers Tiffany and Jake Slowinski were early adopters of the City Lifestyle brand, launching magazines in Bridgewater and the Somerset Hills. They were later joined by Tiffany’s cousin, Anthony Rizzo, who opened Pascack Valley City Lifestyle. The expansion to Northern Highlands represents the natural evolution of their vision, allowing them to serve even more vibrant communities across New Jersey.

“This magazine is about bringing people together,” says Rizzo. “We live in a special area, full of talented people and incredible businesses, and we want to be the bridge that connects them. Whether it’s through stories of local entrepreneurs, features on exciting events, or simply shining a light on the beauty of life in Bergen County, we’re here to inspire and celebrate.”

STRENGTHENING BERGEN COUNTY CONNECTIONS

The launch of Northern Highlands City Lifestyle reflects the belief in the power of community. By connecting small businesses with local families, the magazine amplifies the voices of those who make Bergen County thrive.

“This launch is a testament to what happens when a community supports each other,” Rizzo notes. “It’s not just about the magazine—it’s about the partnerships and friendships that grow from events like this.”

As the team looks ahead, Northern Highlands City Lifestyle is excited to continue building connections and sharing the stories that define Bergen County. With upcoming issues focusing on home, investment, and lifestyle topics for men and women alike, the magazine aims to be a resource for the entire community.

“We hope this magazine becomes a reflection of the incredible people and businesses that make this community so special,” says Publisher Jake Slowinski. “We want to celebrate what’s here, while also inspiring what’s possible.”

To everyone who attended our launch, supported our vision, and contributed to its success—thank you. Together, we’re creating something truly special, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Northern Highlands City Lifestyle.

Here’s to new connections, shared stories, and a community that continues to thrive.

Shop and Sip for a Cause

A Heartfelt Event in Support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

This past December, SOCIETY Femme and SOCIETY Men hosted a memorable Shop and Sip event that brought the Bergen County community together for shopping, holiday cheer, and giving back. Guests enjoyed exclusive shopping opportunities, cocktails, and festive vibes—all while supporting a cause that touches the hearts of many. A portion of the event's proceeds was donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a nonprofit known for its groundbreaking work in treating and curing pediatric cancer.

The event highlighted the power of local connections and the spirit of giving. Reflecting on the three-day event, it’s clear that it wasn’t just about shopping or sipping cocktails—it was about coming together as a community to make a difference. By supporting St. Jude, SOCIETY was able to contribute to the hospital’s mission of providing life-saving care for children battling cancer, regardless of their family’s ability to pay.

The SOCIETY team expressed deep gratitude to everyone who made the event possible, especially generous community partners and local businesses. Special thanks were extended to Balloon Chica for the festive balloon decor, Despina's Cream Bakery, and La Vie En Rose Bakery Cafe Waldwick for their

delicious contributions. Whether through donations or simply lending a hand, the support from these businesses and individuals ensured the event's success.

“For us,” Mary Alice Farella, the owner of SOCIETY Femme and SOCIETY Men, shares, “it’s events like these that mean the most. Giving back to the community that gives us so much is what keeps the spirit of generosity alive. It’s a reminder of how important it is to support the people and businesses around us, not only during the holidays but throughout the year.”

Bergen County thrives on collaboration, kindness, and a shared commitment to making the world a better place. Events like this exemplify the unique connection between local businesses, residents, and charitable organizations.

Giving Back with Heart and Dedication

Valley Hospital Auxiliary Allendale Branch Celebrates 81 Years Of Service

This past December, the Valley Hospital Auxiliary Board marked its 81st year of service, as co-presidents of the Allendale branch— Claudia Sanchez and Lisa Pensa—reflected on the organization’s deep connection to the community and its commitment to supporting the hospital and local families in need.

The Allendale branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary plays a key role in the area. Its primary function is to raise funds through volunteer members who organize donation drives and community partnerships. This group supports hospital programs like the Pediatric Emergency Department, the Butterflies Program for families of seriously ill children, and the "No-Sew Blanket" initiative, which provides comforting blankets for Emergency Department patients.

A SHARED COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY

Sanchez, a real estate broker who has lived in Allendale since 2003, and Pensa, also an Allendale resident and a long-time local volunteer, both have deep ties to the community. For Sanchez, joining the Auxiliary is a way to give back to a community that has supported her family for years.

“Living here, you want to give back to the community that your family calls home,” Sanchez explains. “I’ve been involved in several local organizations, like the Allendale Woman's Club, the Allendale Chamber of Commerce, and

the Allendale/Saddle River Rotary. It’s important to contribute in as many ways as I can.”

Pensa, who moved to Allendale 23 years ago, shares a similar philosophy. A mother of two, she began volunteering with local recreation sports, the music association, and the PTO before joining the Auxiliary six years ago. She and Sanchez became co-presidents two years ago.

“It felt like the right time,” Pensa notes. “We both wanted to continue the success of the organization.” What felt right was taking on the co-presidency to build on the momentum of the Auxiliary’s growth and bring new ideas forward.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN SMALL WAYS

Under their leadership, along with the other 46 volunteer members, the Allendale Branch Auxiliary has made a meaningful impact. Along with collecting donations for families in need, they launched

Lisa Pensa donating the NoSew blankets to Valley Hospital

the "No-Sew Blanket" initiative, which provides handmade blankets to emergency department patients. Volunteers create colorful blankets to offer comfort during stressful visits.

“It’s such a small thing, but it makes a big difference,” Pensa says. “And the best part is, patients get to take them home as a reminder that someone cared.”

The Auxiliary’s fundraising also supports the hospital’s Butterflies Program, which offers financial assistance to families with children battling serious illnesses. This year, the group aims to raise $100,000 for the program. Their efforts also benefit the hospital's Pediatric Emergency Department, which sees a high volume of patients.

ADAPTING TO CHANGE

When Sanchez and Pensa took on their leadership roles, the Auxiliary

was adjusting to the pandemic. Like many organizations, it shifted to virtual meetings and scaled-back events. As things have returned to normal, they’ve worked to reinvigorate the group with in-person activities.

“We wanted to get people back together and create more personal connections,” Sanchez shares. “Zoom was necessary during the pandemic, but we’re excited to return to face-to-face meetings and community events.”

This year, during the branch's holiday dinner, the Auxiliary collected gift cards for 20 families in palliative care, helping them shop for loved ones during the holidays. This effort is just one of many ways the group aims to brighten the season for those facing difficult circumstances.

THE POWER OF LOCAL SUPPORT

What sets the Valley Hospital Auxiliary apart is its strong connection to the local community. The organization relies on the generosity of local businesses and residents to sustain its mission. Whether collecting donations for fundraising baskets or encouraging members to support each other's businesses, the Auxiliary is built on a cycle of giving.

“We live in a special place. Bergen County is an area where people come together to support one another, and I’m proud to be part of that. We all help each other, and that’s what makes this community so unique.”
- Claudia Sanchez

“We always stay local when we do fundraisers or social events,” Sanchez explains. “It’s important to support the businesses that support us. We encourage people to thank local businesses for their donations, keeping that cycle of giving going.”

LOOKING TOWARD THE FUTURE

As the Auxiliary looks ahead, Sanchez and Pensa are optimistic. The opening of a new hospital campus in April 2024 has brought new challenges and opportunities.

"The hospital is now a much larger facility," Pensa notes. "We're excited to be a part of this next chapter."

Moving forward, their goals include expanding the Auxiliary’s impact, increasing membership, and raising awareness about its work. One key goal is to improve communication and ensure more people know about the group's mission.

“Our goal is to support the Valley Hospital community in whatever way we can,” Sanchez shares. “We want people to know who we are and what we’re doing, and we’re always looking for new ideas, new members, and new ways to make a difference.”

People can give back by volunteering, donating, attending fundraisers, or supporting local businesses that partner with the hospital.

A TRUE COMMUNITY EFFORT

As co-presidents, Sanchez and Pensa’s passion for giving back is at the heart of everything they do. With the support of local businesses, residents, and the amazing membership of volunteers, the Auxiliary is well-positioned to continue its mission of helping others and strengthening the community for years to come.

“We live in a special place,” Sanchez reflects. “Bergen County is an area where people come together to support one another, and I’m proud to be part of that. We all help each other, and that’s what makes this community so unique.”

ART AS THERAPY

"This

Diana K. Gibson’s Creative Journey and Its Impact on Well-Being

For over two decades, fine artist Diana K. Gibson has harnessed the power of creativity to inspire others. As an oil painting and drawing instructor based in Midland Park, she has spent years exploring the therapeutic benefits of art, both for herself and her students. Through her own creative practice and teaching, she has witnessed firsthand how engaging in art can improve mental, emotional, and physical health.

Gibson’s artistic journey began over 20 years ago, and since then, she has traveled the world painting ‘en plein air’ in locations ranging from the scenic highlands of Scotland to the serene coasts of Maine. “I’ve painted in places like Scotland, Ireland, Italy, and Nova Scotia, but my most favorite place to paint is Maine,” Gibson shares. Her travels have shaped not only her artistic skills but also her belief in the healing power of art.

THE ROLE OF ART IN MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH

Gibson’s dedication to art goes beyond the canvas. She has experienced firsthand how creativity can alleviate stress and enhance well-being. “I noticed how much happier and more relaxed I felt following a painting session,” she explains. “While painting, I found myself completely immersed in the process. This intense focus helped me forget about stress and anxiety, leaving me feeling refreshed and more clear-headed.”

Studies have supported what Gibson discovered through experience. Research suggests that engaging in drawing and painting can improve motor skills, such as hand-eye coordination, flexibility, and dexterity. Furthermore, these activities have been shown to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. “Art fosters positive emotions,” Gibson says, noting how seeing one’s skills improve through practice leads to a boost in self-esteem.

Diana K. Gibson
intense focus helped me forget about stress and anxiety, leaving me feeling refreshed and more clear-headed.”

But the benefits don’t stop there. “A couple of hours at the easel creating art is akin to meditation,” Gibson explains. “It helps people become fully focused on the task at hand, which contributes to stress relief and mental clarity.”

ART AS A PATH TO PERSONAL GROWTH

Through her teaching at institutions like the Ridgewood Community School, the Morris County Art Association, and now through her own Fine Art Studio, Gibson has witnessed how art can catalyze personal transformation. Her students, often dealing with the stresses of daily life, arrive at her studio burdened with worries but leave with a renewed sense of calm.

“I’ve seen students walk into the studio with heavy minds and leave two hours later relaxed and refocused,” Gibson says. “It’s almost instantaneous—the shift in their energy once they start working on their art projects. It’s truly miraculous.”

For many, creating art serves as an emotional outlet, offering a positive way to channel feelings that might otherwise go unexpressed. “Art allows people to express emotions they might not know how to voice otherwise,” Gibson explains. “It provides a healthy, constructive outlet to focus on, and the end result is a tangible reminder of one’s abilities.”

ART AND COMMUNITY: BUILDING CONNECTIONS THROUGH CREATIVITY

Gibson believes that art doesn’t just heal individuals—it fosters connection. Her studio provides a space for people of all ages to develop their artistic skills while building a supportive community. "I think the studio serves as a peaceful retreat—a sanctuary where people can feel secure, supported, and encouraged to shine,” she says.

Art classes, she notes, can also enhance one’s social life. “Engaging in an art class offers a wonderful opportunity to meet others who share similar interests. It helps

nurture a vibrant social life, which can be especially important for mental well-being.”

At her studio, she offers a range of programs for people looking to explore or deepen their artistic skills. From traditional drawing to oil painting, Gibson’s classes cater to both beginners and advanced students. She works closely with each student, adjusting lessons to meet their unique needs, and also offers guidance for those looking to build portfolios for college applications.

ART AS LIFELONG LEARNING

For Gibson, art has always been a source of growth, both personally and professionally. “I see myself as a lifelong learner,” she says. “I’m always pushing myself to step out of my comfort zone, and that’s what I encourage my students to do, too.”

She points to a recent intense project that reinvigorated her passion for painting. “It demanded my full attention, and the process was both refreshing and exhausting,” Gibson reflects. “It felt so good to watch the project come together, and it reminded me of why I love creating in the first place.”

For those considering pursuing art, Gibson is a living testament to the benefits of creative expression. Her passion for teaching, combined with her belief in art’s therapeutic powers, has had a lasting impact on everyone who walks through the door of her studio.

“There’s a feeling of euphoria when you’re fully immersed in your creative process,” she says. “It’s like being in the zone. Art has the power to reset our minds, relieve stress, and provide us with a sense of purpose. It truly is a gift to oneself.”
