later my dreams were shattered when my husband left me and our daughter for another woman. Fortunately, thanks to the TPS for Salvadorians, I was able to remain legally in this country. It was a very difficult time because in a matter of seconds I had lost my family and become a single mom. Without a dime in a foreign country it was very difficult and I ended up homeless, drug addicted and an alcoholic. I was lost and didn’t know how to get myself back on track. On October 21st, 2009 I had an encounter with God. I was invited to a Christian group and that day I let my old self die and I chose to be reborn. I let God take control of my life and started serving Him. Everything I started doing from that day on I was doing for Him and then suddenly everything started changing for me. I left all my addictions and was able to see my path ahead clearly. My father is a business person and I believe I got my passion for

business from him. I started my cleaning business and quickly had so many customers that I couldn’t take care of by myself. I hired personnel and formally organized my business to be able to take on bigger

accounts. I was super excited when I was able to get the contracts with Related Group, Event Star, Barry Bonds, Anquan Boldin, Jeff Swartz, Taittenger Family, Turnberry, Hollywood Actors, Singers, NBA, NFL, MLB players, etc. I was then contacted to be in two seasons of Real Housewives of Miami with Lisa Hochstein and my testimony was aired on national TV. At this moment, I own 5 businesses in Miami. The reason I ended up in Knoxville TN, is because I found love and I decided to expand my business here. My Business concept is beautiful and very different than other cleaning companies. I don’t believe in the Rotation System. We will always clean every corner of your house. We always come to your house with a big smile and great energy. We never work by the hour and we won’t leave your house until the job is completely done. Our process is to clean your house deep and detailed from top to bottom. We move furniture and clean inside all appliances every time we visit your home. We also clean the back and front porch windows. It is important to walk the extra mile for our clients. When you show that

FOR ME SEPTEMBER HAS ALWAYS BEEN A TRANSITION MONTH. With warm days and cool nights, it previews the upcoming autumn. People are getting back into the routine of school and work and looking forward to upcoming fall events like Friday night lights, Saturday college football, tailgates and cookouts. Many also look forward to new fashions, and in our fall fashion photo shoot, “The Last Warm Night,” we showcase garments and accessories from local boutiques Fancy Rascal, Marc Nelson Denim, Bliss/Tori Mason Shoes, Hillbilly Gypsy Boots and Patricia Nash Designs with models provided by Gage Talent. Personal style is a reflection of your personality, lifestyle and taste, and we look to help put your best foot forward. In Hot Spot, we bring you “Frozen Yogurt for Everyone,” the story of Emmy’s, which speaks to inclusivity of ingredients for those with dietary needs and why the McIntyres decided to open the shop. In our Giving Back feature, “Designed for Dignity,” we talk to Angel Wings Memory Gowns, an organization that uses donated

LEON WILLIAMS CONTRACTORS BEGINS WORK ON WINGS OVER KNOXVILLE Maryville-based commercial construction firm Leon Williams Contractors is building out a storefront near the University of Tennessee campus for the first Tennessee location of the popular fast-casual Wings Over brand of restaurants. At press time, Wings Over Knoxville, 1834 Cumberland Ave., was slated to open in late August. The new restaurant will be part of a mixed-use building developed after the city of Knoxville’s two-year, $25 million upgrade of Cumberland Avenue was completed in 2017. “Wings Over Knoxville is going to be a great fit for Cumberland Avenue, and we’re proud to be collaborating with them and contributing to the area’s revitalization,” said Jimmy Hawkins, president of Leon Williams Contractors. “This is an iconic part of

PATIENCE: Once again, I am reminded that the human body will recover on its own timeline and to focus on small improvements rather than being dejected about how far I have to go or risk re-injury by overdoing it. EMPATHY: Honestly, this minor setback from which I am recovering from nicely is nothing compared to some of the serious medical conditions others suffer with. But unless you’ve experienced setbacks yourself, it can be hard to empathize with others. And empathy is everything in personal training. HUMILITY: Five-pound dumbbell raises that are usually reserved for beginner clients and little old ladies in their 80s are making my shoulders burn. My legs were sore from a 30-minute walk in our neighborhood. I have to be careful just sitting up to get out of bed. I have to ask others for help lifting objects that should be easy for me to lift. APPRECIATION: “You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.” Yes, it’s a cheesy ‘80s song by the hair-metal band Cinderella, but’s it’s also true. As I feel myself slowly getting stronger each day, I am more appreciative of my good health than I ever could be without the setback. GOAL SETTING: I do better if I have a BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) in front of me to work toward. It helps me to stay focused on the daily disciplines required to reach that goal and gives me a reason for doing the work. The bucket-list goal I’ve set for myself is to complete a four-day bike trip through the Andes Mountains in Argentina this winter with my wife and a group of friends. My advice to anyone on the comeback path from injury is to focus on the hidden blessings, take things one day at a time, and then enjoy the journey back to being 100 percent. GIVING BACK ARTICLE JENNIE TREADWAY-MILLER
DESIGNED FOR DIGNITY ANGEL WINGS USES DONATED WEDDING DRESSES TO HONOR BABIES WHO NEVER MAKE IT HOME
SHORTLY BEFORE BEN AND JENNIFER JONES WERE EXPECTING THEIR THIRD CHILD IN 2014, A FRIEND OF THEIRS UNEXPECTEDLY WENT INTO LABOR WITH HER DAUGHTER AT 23 WEEKS. The baby lived for 15 months in the NICU before passing away. One of the things Jennifer noticed during her friend’s immense grief was the struggle to find something her baby could wear for burial. Then, the Joneses had their daughter, and while still in the hospital, Jennifer asked a nurse what they do for babies who pass away before coming home. Did they have a protocol for garments? “She said they wrap them in a washrag,” Jennifer says. “It was heartbreaking. I had just had a baby, and I couldn’t imagine her passing away and being wrapped in a washrag. There’s no dignity in that.” Amidst the euphoria of bringing home a healthy baby girl, the Joneses were thinking about how to help parents who lose their babies and need a garment for a dignified burial. Jennifer contacted the nurses at LeConte Medical Center, where she’d just given birth, to propose a solution. 28
