ather's Day is celebrated Sunday, June 18th this year, and we are pleased to feature Newport Beach Police Chief Jon T. Lewis and his family on our cover. Lewis is a loving husband to his wife Darcy and a dedicated dad to their children Claire and JT. Declaring his family as "the most important thing in my life," Lewis carries out his belief with family time (especially at the beach) and supporting the kids' sports activities. His other "family," the men and women of the Newport Beach Police Department, also receive his unflagging support. As Lewis says, "There is not a day I come to work that I don't feel blessed for the opportunity to do this."

Another gentleman in our community who is featured this month is S. Paul Musco, who was presented the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor in a ceremony held at the Westin South Coast Plaza. National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO) has presented 100 natural-born and naturalized citizens the honor at Ellis Island since 1986. This year marked the sixth time the medal has been awarded outside of Ellis Island. The spirit of the honor states that the honoree shall "share with those less fortunate than themselves and maintain traditions of their ethnic heritage while upholding the ideals and spirit of America." I can't think of another person who exemplifies that mantra better than Paul Musco. Another gentleman, although a Los Angeles import, has deep roots in Orange County. World-renowned opera star and General Director of Los Angeles Opera, Plácido Domingo, is a longtime devotee of Chapman University. Because of that dedication, he returned to the university to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Musco Center for the Arts, where he performed at the grand opening a year ago. Domingo was presented an Honorary Doctor of Arts at the celebration, as well as a bronze bust created in his honor. Two Newport Beach businessmen deserve a mention. Dr. Peter T. Smrecek, who has been practicing dentistry in the area for nearly 40 years, has a sterling reputation, and, restaurateur Giuseppe Accardo just opened his Italian eatery, Mr. G's, on Balboa Island to rave reviews. Heartfelt Luncheon Raises Funds for CF Research
The Cystic Fibrosis Guild's Annual Luncheon drew 280 guests to the Hilton Orange County, where nearly $100,000 was netted for cystic fibrosis research. ime seems to stand still as soon as you cross the bridge onto Balboa Island. The buildings, which
seem to have stood the test of time, look exactly the same as they did a decade ago. The streets are small and narrow. And, many of the businesses have been landmarks on Balboa for generations. So, when a newcomer opens shop on Marine Avenue, everyone takes notice. “This Mr. G’s place is so popular,” says one passerby as she pulls down her Dior sunglasses and peers towards our table. “I’ve seen it in all the magazines. It must be good.” She is correct. Since opening in December, this quaint Italian bistro has made a splash in a big way. hilanthropist Sebastian Paul Musco joined an acclaimed list of recipients, including seven U.S. Presidents and
luminaries such as Elie Wiesel, Bob Hope, Rosa Parks, General Martin Dempsey and Edward James Olmos, in being awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. Since 1986, the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO) has presented Ellis Island Medals of Honor every year to 100 natural-born and naturalized citizens who share with those less fortunate than themselves and maintain traditions of their ethnic heritage while upholding the ideals and spirit of America. The NECO ceremony is held each May at Ellis Island, but in this instance, the induction took place in Orange County with a dinner and ceremony at the Westin South Coast Plaza, marking the sixth time the medal has been awarded outside of Ellis Island. The dinner program, emceed by 2014 Medalist Gaddi Vasquez, opened with a Marine Corps Color Guard, tenor Orson Van Gay singing the National Anthem, an invocation by Abbott Eugene Hayes of St. Michael’s Abbey, and the Pledge of Allegiance, led by former U.S. Treasurer and 2016 Medalist Rosario Marin. Vasquez recognized other Orange County recipients, such as the late Henry Segerstrom and Herb Nootbaar, Jim Doti, George Argyros, Fariborz Maseeh and Hazem Chehabi. brate the one-year anniversary of Musco Center for the Arts, where he officially opened the center by performing at the grand opening concert. Domingo, a longtime friend and artistic advisor of the university, was presented an Honorary

GRILLED STUFFED CHEDDAR BURGERS These delicious burgers pack a flavor surprise: a creamy cheesy center! To further cut calories, replace ground beef with ground turkey, but add a shredded carrot to give the turkey added moisture. AVOCADO SALSA VERDE This creamy salsa gets its flavor and lovely green hue from a combination of avocados and tomatillos. While many people are inclined to call the avocado a vegetable, it is technically a fruit, and a very healthy fruit–packed with protein (4g each) and more potassium than a banana. INGREDIENTS
2 large avocados 2 large jalapeno peppers (more to taste) 6 medium tomatillos 1 small onion ¼ cup cilantro 1 clove garlic DIRECTIONS
Peel the rough outer skin off the tomatillos; rinse thoroughly. Roast tomatillos over hot grill or in oven (10-15 minutes), until vibrant dark green. Place roasted tomatillos and remaining ingredients in blender; pulse until well-combined but still chunky. Add additional jalapenos to desired heat level.
