WIPE OUT THE WINTER BLUES PARKER’S CHEERS – WITH COFFEE WARRIOR RUMBLE CELEBRATES TWO LIVES
Editor’s Letter
From the Editor
MARCH 2015 publisher
Welcome to the inaugural issue of Parker Lifestyle!
Kelly Veltrie | KVeltrie@LifestylePubs.com
When Publisher Kelly Veltrie approached me to be the editor for this publication, I was quite excited. It brought me back to one of my very first jobs in journalism – as the editor of The Chandler Arizonan, a small, hyperlocal community newspaper in Arizona. Giving Parker a monthly publication that features local people, happenings and businesses is an honor. In fact, my goal is to make Parker Lifestyle your “go-to” resource to see what your friends, neighbors and the community are doing. That same thought process is what made my partnership with Kelly and Lifestyle Publications a perfect fit. With the slogan Inspired by Community, Lifestyle Publications wants its readers “to run into someone they know” in the pages of their magazines. To do that in Parker, I need your help. Send me information about the happenings in your corner of our thriving community. Whether it’s an accomplishment of a friend, family member or business, I want to hear about it. If your son or daughter just got engaged, let me know. If you know about a local business that routinely gives back to the community, let me know. If your child’s school has a teacher who has gone above and beyond, let me know. If your neighborhood is doing a community project, let me know. If there’s a sports league that is registering children to play this season, let me know. You get the idea. Make Parker Lifestyle YOUR magazine by sending your news snippets to me at SCormier@lifestylepubs.com. I can’t wait to hear about all of you. While I’ve lived in Parker for more than 23 years, there is still so much I want to learn about my neighbors.

eing a Colorado native, I love all things Colorado. From our capitol city of Denver, our majestic Rocky Mountains and our farm lands, each community offers something special and unique and inspires the people who live in them. I, along with my husband Ted and our son Luke, have been fortunate to call Parker our home since 2000. We have watched it grow from a small country town to a thriving, active community full of truly amazing people. Daily, I see examples of people and businesses that strive to make Parker a great place to live. My vision for Parker Lifestyle is to connect you to all that Parker has to offer and at times show you what this great state is all about. The goal each month is to inspire you by our community. Enjoy! “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.” – Maya Angelou

The group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at the Brick House Tavern and Tap. Networking begins at 5 p.m., but entrepreneurs are welcome to come early and stay as long as they wish, says PABC organizer Paul Steadman. “This group is all about networking and connecting people. There are no membership dues or restrictions,” Steadman says. “This is always a free event. The Wildlife Experience officially became part of the University of Colorado earlier this year, but families who like to visit the art and history museum probably haven’t noticed much of a difference Most of the museum’s events continue to be available, including outdoor workshops, and activities designed for families and those who are 21 and older, says Spokeswoman Kyla White. Large-format films continue to be shown in the facility’s big screen theater.
The big change is the increase in the number of classes and CU students at the facility, now called the Liniger Building at CU South Denver. The name was chosen because Dave Liniger, chairman emeritus of The Wildlife Experience and co-founder of REMAX International Inc., and his wife have been major contributors to The Wildlife Experience, which donated the museum to CU to expand its CU South Denver presence. Upcoming events at the Liniger Building, 10035 Peoria St. in Parker, include The Iditarod from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 7, and the Movie and a Martini & Whiskey and a Western events, which take place on Friday nights throughout the year for the age 21 and older crowd. Visit CUSouthDenver.org or call 720.488.3300 for more information.
TIME TO CHANGE YOUR TIRES Springtime means a lot of things. Cleaning the house from top to bottom. Switching over the furnace to the air conditioning. One thing you may not have thought about is taking your winter tires off and putting on the all-season tires. While you may be tempted to keep the snow tires on all year long, that’s not a good idea. When the pavement temperature reaches 70 degrees, snow tires wear out prematurely, according to Big O Tires in Parker. The local tire shop recommends replacing the snow tires with all-season tires in the spring so you get the most out of both sets of tires. At this time of year, it’s also a good idea to have a mechanic inspect the vehicle as well. This will ensure that all the components on the vehicle are working accordingly, even the air conditioning. When the temperatures start to increase, air conditioning and engine cooling issues can occur. If you catch these issues early, it will help keep the maintenance costs down as they could cause more complex problems down the road. The manufacturer of your vehicle has specific service intervals for every vehicle, which include spark plugs, timing belts, fluid flushes, etc. These services ensure that your vehicle and all of it components will last as long as possible, allowing your vehicle to perform as well as it did the day you bought it.
NEW PTO STILL CELEBRATING AFTER SURPASSING ALL GOALS The Cimarron Middle School PTO is celebrating the success of its first big fundraiser - the Festival of Trees – and plans to make it an annual event open to the general public. Attendance goals were nearly tripled when more than 700 people walked through the doors at Cimarron Middle School on Dec. 6 to bid on more than 80 decorated trees and other unique items donated by Parker residents, businesses and organizations, raising more than $14,000. “Our primary goal with the Festival of Trees truly is to bring the community together. If we make money for our school while we do it, then it’s twice the blessing,” says Lacy Matthews, PTO vice president and chairman of the event. Look forward to the event next year on the first Saturday in December.

Harmony Equine Center Cares for Neglected Equine ARTICLE SUSAN CORMIER PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
T
he Dumb Friends League Harmony Equine Center™ has been busy since it officially opened in Franktown in June 2012 as a rehabilitation and adoption facility for abused and neglected horses, ponies, donkeys and mules. In that time, it has received more than 510 equine that have been seized by law enforcement, of which about 300 have been placed in new homes. On an average day, 80 horses, ponies, donkeys and mules can be found at the non-profit facility, believed to be the only one of its kind in the nation that only takes equine seized by law enforcement. The equine are offered for adoption after they have gained weight and strength, and have been through the center’s training program. The minimum rehabilitation time is about six months, says Garret Leonard, Harmony’s director. “We get a lot of unhealthy horses. When they get here, they’re basically starving to death. You can see all of their ribs,” Leonard says. “The greatest days for us, as a staff, are when a horse goes and has a new home because we’ve had to endure the hardship with that horse of him or her being so skinny and trying to get it back to health.” Individuals who are interested in an equine must go through an application and interview process, which includes visiting with the equine to make sure it is the best animal for the individual’s needs, and a site visit at the equine’s potential new home. Adoption fees range from $250 for a friendly, companion horse that may be too old to ride to $500 for a riding horse, Leonard says. The center is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday for people who are considering adoption. Appointments also can be made for people wishing to view the equine. Cultural Attractions Bring Folks to Downtown Parker Local, National and International Acts Appear at Local Venue ARTICLE SUSAN CORMIER | PHOTOGRAPHY TED VELTRIE

I
n a state that ranks No. 1 in participation in the arts, Parker residents can consider themselves lucky that they have so many cultural opportunities available to them right here in downtown. The main venue, of course, is the Parker Arts, Culture and Events (PACE) Center, which opened in October 2011 at 20000 Pikes Peak Ave. after 18 months of construction. The PACE Center gave residents a long-awaited setting for live theater, concerts and art exhibits, eliminating the need for the long trek to Denver and its expensive parking. Not only is the PACE Center affordable with convenient and free parking, it also offers a huge variety of acts. Performers range from local artisan groups, such as the Parker Chorale and Parker Symphony Orchestra, to national and international entertainers, like Marc Cohn, Rosanne Cash, the Vienna Boys Choir and the Russian National Ballet Theatre, the latter of which sold out its February performance of Swan Lake. As a community facility, the center’s 50,000 square feet has a lot to offer, including: • The 536-seat theater with movable orchestra pit, box seats and dressing rooms. • A 250-seat outdoor amphitheater. • A 1,000-square-foot art gallery that features various artists throughout the year. • A 3,000-square-foot event room with gorgeous mountain views that can be rented out for business events, weddings, banquets and more. In addition, there are five additional 1,000-square-foot meeting rooms. When totaled, the PACE Center had more than 900 rental bookings in 2014. • A 1,700-square-foot dance studio with mirrored walls and wood floors. • Two discovery labs with concrete floors so artists and youths can make a mess while creating art or conducting science experiments. • A catering and teaching kitchen. • Harmony Park, an outdoor setting featuring weatherproof musical instruments tuned to the pentatonic scale that children and adults alike can play. With all of its attractions, the PACE Center has made downtown Parker a destination for those seeking culture and the arts. And not just for Parker residents. The Center is also developing a solid following from residents who come here from Littleton, Aurora, Castle Rock and Elbert County. And it has become even more welcoming with Parker’s growing number of quality restaurants, including the Parker Garage, Elev. 5900 Kitchen and Bar, and Vines Wine Bar in downtown. These restaurants make it easy for patrons of the arts to head out and enjoy an evening on the town. And the attraction continues to grow. The number of tickets sold last year increased 22 percent over 2013. A total of 42,292 tickets were sold in 2014 for the PACE Center’s 131 performances, which included national acts like Colin Quinn, Starship and Clint Black. Attendance also increased, with the average attendance for 2014
shows at 78 percent of capacity – up from 54 percent in 2013. That’s not too much of a surprise for a state that recently ranked No. 1 in the country for trips to the theater, concert halls and museums. According to a 2012 National Endowment for the Arts survey released in January, nearly 52 percent of Colorado adults reported attending live performing arts events. That’s way above the national average of 37.4 percent. Led by Cultural and Arts Director Elaine Mariner, the PACE Center and the Parker Cultural Department does not rest on its laurels. In addition to the great lineup of performers, 2014 accomplishments included: • Participation in 41 outreach events, including Wine Walks, PACE Patio Parties, Parker Days, Concerts in the Park and Parker Quest. • Offering 359 cultural classes, educating 2,738 students in topics that ranged from cooking to circus camps. • The addition of a student matinee series in September 2014, which introduced more than 2,500 school-age kids to science and theater with sold-out performances of Doktor Kaboom, Harry the Dirty Dog and A Christmas Carol. But the PACE Center is not the only local venue for cultural events in Parker. Performances, classes and events also are held at the historic Mainstreet Center, which has a cozy 200-seat theater, small art gallery, gym and vintage classrooms. Also available for small weddings, church groups or quiet meetings is the century-old Ruth Memorial Chapel, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. For more information about any of these facilities or upcoming performances, visit PACECenterOnline.org or ParkerArt.org.

KICK Yourself Into Shape 9ROUND OWNER SHARES THE BENEFITS OF FITNESS ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY SUSAN CORMIER
T
anya Humphrey knows firsthand the importance of staying fit. After she shattered her vertebra in a 12-foot fall off a cliff near Vail, she was told by a surgeon that there was a good chance she may never walk again. She also was told she may not be able to have children. Tanya proved the surgeon wrong. Not only can she walk, she’s had three children since her nasty fall on July 4, 2000. “When it first happened, the doctor actually said that there was a good chance I wouldn’t be able to walk again,” Humphrey says. “After I was able to walk with exercise and fitness and pushing, he told me I probably wouldn’t be able to have kids. I have three.” She credits much of her recovery to physical fitness. “I was always into fitness,” she says. But after the accident, “I just kept pushing, building up my core, making sure that I was strong.” So, when she was financially ready to start a business, the fitness industry was a logical choice. She and her husband opened a 9Round kickboxing studio near Stonegate on Oct. 11. The fitness facility offers a 30-minute kickboxing circuit, where participants do exercises at nine different stations for three minutes each. Stations one and two focus on strength and stamina, stations three through eight involve fat-burning kickboxing moves, and station nine is dedicated to core strengthening. With three trainers on staff, members are given plenty of instruction and encouragement throughout their 30-minute sessions. The trainers also provide modified versions of exercises if a person has special needs or is recovering from an injury or surgery. “The trainer is very involved with what’s going on in the gym with each person,” Humphrey says.
“For me personally, it’s more fun because the workout changes every day,” Humphrey says. “You don’t do the exact same thing. Like running, everyday it’s the same thing. Aerobics, everyday it’s the same thing. But when you come in for this workout, it’s different. Every time you come in, you’re doing something different. It’s kickboxing based, but all the exercises are different.” Humphrey, who works out about four times a week, has already seen the benefits. “Since I’ve been doing it, I’ve dropped about 7 pounds,” she says. “I’ve definitely gained some muscle and core strength too.” Trainer Eric Felder has also noticed some great benefits. “Life’s good when you workout,” he says, noting he’s happier and has a lot more energy. “I’m definitely starting to get my military body back, my muscle mass and size and stuff, which is awesome because I struggled for years after I got out of the military to get that body back.”
THE 9ROUND DIFFERENCE
Humphrey’s goal is to get people in shape without sparring. “It’s all about the fitness and getting everybody in shape and having a good time and doing it on your schedule,” she says. “It’s all based on the fitness. There’s no actual sparring between people.” Among the benefits of working out at 9Round are: • There are no class times. Workouts start every three minutes, so anyone can walk in and get started right away. • A trainer is always included, so individuals get personal attention at no extra cost. A trainer will be standing right there to provide encouragement and offer instruction if an exercise is being done incorrectly. • It offers a 30-minute, full body workout. The workouts are designed to work every muscle for a full body burn. • The workouts change daily, so people don’t get bored doing the same exercises every day. 22

Fika Coffee House: Downtown Parker’s Living Room SECOND LOCATION TO OPEN IN 2015 ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY SUSAN CORMIER
T
here are not many places people can go these days where they are encouraged to sit down and relax, whether they want to read a book, converse with friends or hold a business meeting. But at Fika Coffee House in downtown Parker, that’s exactly what owner Joshua Rivero wants his customers to do. In fact, he and his wife, Anna, came up with the shop’s name, based on the Swedish verb fika, which means “to meet over coffee.” “The whole idea of Fika, the definition of Fika is to converse over coffee or to take a coffee break in the middle of your day,” Rivero says. “That’s the definition of our word because that’s what we want people to do. We want people to slow down and enjoy themselves for half hour to an hour. And not be in such a rush.” Not only does Fika offer a place to relax, it also offers a return to the old days. “Fika is a neighborhood gathering spot. It’s a coffee shop from the old days,” Rivero says. “You can come in and be by yourself and read and study. You can come in with friends and chat. Or you can come in and see friends and neighbors that you haven’t seen in a while. “It’s just kind of a daytime pub, if you will. 24

We have our Cliffs. We have our Sams and Woodys and Coaches.” The coffee house also attracts newer Parker residents, as well as the younger crowd who often use the shop’s comfortable setting to study after school or between classes. The business plan appears to work well. There aren’t many times during the day when you can walk in and not find a line of people waiting for drinks, all of which are made especially to meet customers’ preferences. According to Rivero, revenues have continued to increase since he first purchased the coffee house seven years ago. Part of the attraction comes from the quality of the products served and the friendliness of the staff, who Rivero calls his “Fika family.” The espresso is made with Kaladi Coffee’s Trieste Caffe Espresso beans, which have been formulated to perfection through 20 years of espresso bar experience. For those who prefer a different type of beverage, Fika offers a wide range of organic and herbal teas from Two Leaves Tea Company, as well as a selection of Torani syrups for Italian sodas. The baristas – or the Fika family – also add to the ambience. They know the

names and beverage orders of the regular customers and greet all new visitors with a friendly smile. “One of the biggest bonuses is the staff,” Rivero says. “People want to work here. I get to pick the cream up the crop.” Most of the baristas also live in the Parker area, so they are vested in the community, he says. With all the success, the couple is planning to open a second coffee house in Idyllwilde, the neighborhood where they moved with their two children in 2006. With a projected opening in April of this year, the second location will be in the Guest House at Idyllwilde, which they closed on in December. The shop will have expanded offerings to include a few more food options for Legend High School students who might stop by, as well as ice cream, Rivero says. It also will be a challenge as it will be the only commercial outlet in a threemile radius, he says, adding that he hopes people from the neighborhood will take advantage of the location and walk or bicycle to coffee shop. While that location’s success is yet to be seen, there’s no doubt it will offer a similar, welcome setting. As Rivero puts it: “Our specialty is to provide a living room for Parker.”

Hosted by the Douglas County Educational Foundation and the Douglas County School District, the luncheon has been held for the last nine years as a way of recognizing the achievements of female athletes and the positive influence of sports in their lives. “The Women and Girls in Sports Luncheon is a great event,” says Tim Ottmann, Ponderosa High School assistant principal/athletic director. “Every year I’m amazed at the outstanding character, academic achievements and athletic accomplishments among the female athletes that are honored.” A total of 108 females from across the Douglas County School District were recognized. Of those, 36 were from Parker’s three high schools and three middle schools. LISTED BY SCHOOL, THE HONOREES WERE:

During the Jan. 16 celebration, speakers shared personal stories, lessons and core values instilled by coaches over years. According to DCSD’s account of the luncheon, Jennifer Kmezich House, current coach, teacher and former soccer player at Douglas County High School, recounted her experience with failure when she failed her first fitness test as a scholarship athlete at Texas A&M University. She was the most fit, but failed due to lack of preparation. She used the situation to earn her spot on the field, eventually winning the prestigious 12th Man award from her team. In speaking to her fellow athletes, she advised, “Prep yourself for failure, but know you have the opportunity to let it beat you down or motivate you forward.”

The Parker Task Force is Grateful to Volunteers and Sponsors as it Breaks Ground on a New Facility SEPTEMBER MOVE-IN DATE IS PROJECTED ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY HOLLY KEATING
T
he Parker Task Force helps thousands of people and families who may be struggling to avoid homelessness. Some may not have enough money for a nutritional meal, may be a few dollars short to pay their rent or heating bill, or may need to fill a life-saving prescription. Luckily, with the generosity from many locals and sponsorships, the Parker Task Force is able to “provide individuals and families in our community with food, limited financial assistance and other support services to help them either become or stay self-sufficient,” says Diane Roth, who has been a PTF volunteer for nine years. The efforts of the Parker Task Force (PTF) are nothing new. The all-volunteer organization has been serving folks in the Parker, Franktown and Elizabeth areas for the last 27 years, empowering them to become self-sufficient. In the beginning, three churches were individually helping those in need, but as the number of clients and their needs grew, the churches decided to work together, and PTF was created. In 2014, PTF served more than 8,600 clients, including a growing number of seniors. Steve Budnack, PTF’s chairman, says the goal for senior clients is to make sure they have access to nutritional foods so that they have money to keep their homes warm, fill their prescriptions and keep gas in their vehicles, which helps them to enjoy their last years “spending time with family.” PTF offers its clients a plethora of services, including assistance in finding jobs or other services the clients might be qualified to receive. 26
Parker Lifestyle | March 2015
PTF also recognizes the importance of helping school children. The Task Force provides school supplies once a year and nutritional snack bags once a month. While busy year-round, the holidays are especially hectic. On the weekend before every Thanksgiving, PTF puts together a food basket that clients can take home and cook themselves. “If sponsors don’t have time to shop for food to donate, we can accept monetary gifts as well, which helps us keep our perishable food items stocked,” says Anne Wright, who has been a volunteer for about three years. Last year, more than 100 volunteers worked on the Thanksgiving Day meal drive, making themselves available to collect food that was dropped off by area residents. The weekend before Thanksgiving, the drop-off line was bumperto-bumper. At times, cars were lined up seven to 10 cars deep. Sharon Erwin, who has been with PTF for four years, coordinated the annual Christmas drive, which allows sponsors to adopt a family. “A sponsor will receive the client’s wish list, which includes ages, sizes and any color preference. A sponsor can

then purchase and wrap the gifts,” Erwin says. “On average, they are able to provide holiday gifts for about 160 families.” She describes one of those moments that she says will always stay with her. Holding back tears of joy, she recalls when a grandmother, a client, sent her a thank you note. “The grandmother wrote in her thank you note that ‘watching my granddaughter’s eyes fill with happiness as she

opened her gift, warmed my heart and that was the best gift anyone could have given me.’” Looking at the year ahead, PTF will start construction on a permanent place to call home. Thanks to the endless hours of hard work from volunteers and financial support from sponsors, the non-profit has reached its funding goal to start construction on a new, permanent building at 19105 Longs Way. A groundbreaking ceremony took place Nov. 20, with about 50 volunteers and sponsors gathered to celebrate the future. During the ceremony, Budnack thanked multiple sponsors and volunteers, and let people know that PTF workers and volunteers are not paid for their work because PTF wants every penny, “every donation to go directly to helping and empowering our clients.” “The Parker Task Force has come a long way from its first home in a barn. We are looking forward to operating in an 8,400-square-foot building that can be expanded in the future,” Budnack says in a press release. “While the Task Force is appreciative of having been housed for over 20 years in various Town of Parker buildings, it has simply outgrown its present space.” Although PTF has raised more than $1 million dollars to purchase the land and pay for some building costs, volunteers are still hoping to raise about $500,000 to help pay off construction loans. Site preparation, including grading and drainage work, began in late December. The move-in date is projected to be September 2015. F
or anyone who has ever found the car of their dreams or been faced with driving a vehicle that is less than satisfactory for their needs, the importance of the right set of wheels is obvious. As an entrepreneur who does most of my work on the go, I can say that having the perfect car, truck, SUV or crossover makes all the difference. Whether you drive two miles a day to the store or the office, or 200 miles in a day for one job, having the right ride has a large impact on your experience. As a personal automotive consultant, I have the opportunity to experience firsthand a variety of vehicles. I get to test what features work well and make the driving experience in various models superior for specific purposes. I recently had the pleasure of driving a 2014 Ram Laramie Long Horn 2500 Cummins Turbo Diesel truck, a 2014 Mini Cooper S Turbo and a 2014 BMW X4 3.5i, all of which have their benefits. The Ram appealed to me initially simply because of the fact that when you drive a truck, you are among the largest vehicles on the road. That’s a good quality for someone who has been outmatched by a truck or two. Also, this truck had some phenomenal features: smooth ride, ease of handling, very rich leather trim and detailing, a luxurious backseat space for passengers, logical and accessible controls, and well-designed storage compartments. It was one of the more comfortable, well-appointed, driver-friendly vehicles I have had the pleasure of spending some time in. The Mini is a genuinely fun, unique and functional car. It puts a smile on your face every time you drive it. The turbo engine wasn’t a bad perk either, knowing you can shoot a reasonable gap in traffic without concern. The cockpit is uniquely designed with toggle controls and interior lighting that uses fun color changes to indicate sport, comfort or eco driving mode. The BMW X4 is perfect in Colorado’s wintery weather, surefooted and well designed. German engineering can be pretty convincing when you want a vehicle that can meet many requirements and demands with versatility, agility, styling and elegance. The trademark BMW brakes lend confidence to driving in any condition. The innovative iDrive driver-interface system developed by BMW, which has been often copied by other manufacturers, allows for a real-time interaction with the features and functions of the

Parting Thoughts

Heartfelt Remembrance at the Wolverine Rumble WORDS SUSAN CORMIER AND KATHY GRAPPINGER
H
igh school students from throughout the metro area danced their hearts out as they remembered two Parker teens and raised more than $6,000 in the hopes of saving lives. Held Jan. 24 at Chaparral High School, the Wolverine Rumble was multi-school dance competition to remember Taylor Autumn Llewellyn and Jonathan Hunter Nash. The best way to tell the story is in the words of Kathy Grappinger, Chaparral student government advisor and social studies teacher, who described the event as “amazing.” HERE’S HER ACCOUNT:
In October, we lost one of our beloved students and a varsity poms athlete in a car accident, Taylor Autumn Llewellyn. Soon after, five of the student government girls, who are also on varsity and JV poms, wanted to do something in her memory. Last year, we hosted the Warrior Rumble in honor of Claire Davis from Arapahoe High School. All funds at this volleyball tournament went to her family’s fund. We always had intentions of continuing a “rumble” but just didn’t know what for yet this year. After our loss, it was a fitting opportunity to dedicate the Wolverine Rumble to Taylor. Shortly after, in November, we unfortunately lost another student, Jonathon Hunter Nash. Our school was devastated. However, it became more important to student government that we host this event to provide the community an opportunity to celebrate both of their lives. 34

Both students were organ donors and both families worked with Donate Life Colorado. So it made perfect sense that all proceeds would be given to Donate Life Colorado. Here are some of the highlights of the event: - The parents of Jonathon Hunter Nash were our opening performance. They performed a beautiful country dance to “I Will See You Again” by Carrie Underwood. I think everyone watching had tears in their eyes as we viewed their passion and love. - The Llewellyn family spoke and gave yet another opportunity to inspire everyone to love each other more and to live in the moment. - Omega Martial Arts Studio performed as this was the studio where Jonathon practiced Taekwondo. - Our Unified Team was the first student performance with peer coaches and our special education students. They received a standing ovation! - The event concluded with a performance from the Chaparral Varsity Poms who placed first at State for their jazz routine. Again, quite powerful and a beautiful dedication to Taylor. - Other performances included: Northglenn with three different poms teams, Legend HS JV Poms, Miller’s Dance Studio, Parker Dance Academy, Reed School of Irish Dancing, Douglas County High School Man Poms, Ponderosa Varsity Poms, and from Chaparral, Student Government, Softball, Girls Soccer, JV Poms. We had donated drawing items, a silent auction and T-shirt sales as well. All in all, we collected $6,023 in just over two hours! Again, all will be given to Donate Life Colorado.
