SPRINGBORO BUILDERS LAUNCHING NEW WEDDING AND EVENT VENUE DOWNTOWN A few proposed building projects just blocks apart could bring new life to the Historic Huffman neighborhood in Downtown Dayton. One of the projects, spearheaded by Seth and Cain Doliboa of South Dayton-based, Catalyst Custom Homes, is the renovation of a 30,000 sq. ft. old ice cream cone plant and warehouse on Ringgold Street. The building is currently under construction but will become a spacious wedding and business event center called The Lift. Slated for completion this spring with a refurbished lift elevator, luxurious bridal & groom’s suites, and a stunning staircase for the bride’s grand entrance, The Lift is pre-booking tours for weddings and corporate events. MEET THE SOUTH DAYTONBASED FAMILY CONCIERGE MEDICINE PRACTITIONER PUTTING THE “HEALTH” BACK IN HEALTHCARE ARTICLE ARIELLE JORDAN PHOTOGRAPHY ROXANN PATRICK AND DAVIS FAMILY
IT WAS A SNOWY DAY IN SOUTH DAYTON WHEN I MET WITH DR. NICK DAVIS IN HIS MIAMISBURG OFFICE. But before I could even hang my coat, the doctor greeted me in his reception room with a warm and cheerful disposition. I got to sit down with him to talk about his new concierge family practice, Nick Davis, MD, and Associates, and how he’s taking family medicine - and even his own personal health habits - “back to basics.” WHEN DID YOU KNOW YOU WANTED TO BECOME A DOCTOR? I know it's cliche to say this, but since middle school; that’s when I realized I could combine my love of science with my love of helping people. I didn’t know I wanted to practice family medicine until after four years of undergrad and four years of med school, when a mentor told me that family medicine encompassed all of the various areas of medicine I was interested in. The rest, as they say, is history! I’ve been practicing family medicine for over a decade now. 12

K I S S HOW MAXIMIZING YOUR HOME’S ORGANIZATIONAL SPACES CAN OPTIMIZE YOUR HEALTH
C L U T T E R ARTICLE ARIELLE JORDAN PHOTOGRAPHY RACHAEL FAHNCKE
G O O D B Y E CAN HOME ORGANIZATION ACTUALLY IMPACT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH? According to WebMD, the answer is a resounding yes. Disorganization may be contributing to your stress and depression according to psychology reports. Get your clutter under control, and your attitude just may improve. It doesn’t stop with mental health either. Clutter can also negatively impact your physical health. Peter Walsh, author of Does This Clutter Make My Butt Look Fat? noticed an association between the amount of clutter people have and their excess weight. The reason? Too much clutter in the kitchen or pantry equals too much consumption. Here to help with improving home organization locally is Dayton native and owner of Dayton Designer Closets, Rachael Fahncke. “Home organization is certainly great for personal wellness but it doesn’t have to be ‘clinical only.’ Apart from maximizing every space, we’re being cognizant of trends and personal style to ensure a perfect design every time.” CONTINUED >

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
foods for f lex i bi l it y ARTICLE ELLIE MORAN
FOOD IS MEDICINE. What we put into our bodies is either energizing, healing, and nourishing—or can contribute to feeling sluggish, stiff, and unmotivated. Nutrition has an effect on how your body moves and functions and that absolutely extends to flexibility training. Eating to support your flexibility goals doesn’t have to be complicated. Of course, each one of us has different nutritional requirements and responds to some foods better than others. It’s important that you take the time to experiment, consult a professional if needed, and reflect on what foods make your body feel and function at its best. If you put whole, healthy foods in your body instead of processed foods that are high in calories and fat, you’re going to notice a difference in your performance. When you eat foods with high amounts of sugar, processed carbs, and unhealthy fats, it can cause inflammation in the body. This can aggravate your body and lead to stiffness and bloating, which can be a (literal!) pain. When you’re thinking about nutrition for flexibility, it’s also important to pay attention to the health of your connective tissue. Connective tissue (ligaments, tendons and fascia) is critical to building and maintaining a strong and flexible body. Remember, it’s not just the time you clock on the mat, but how you fuel your body that counts. Nutritional choices that support your fitness will leave you mentally motivated and physically ready to train!

Dr. John C. Maxwell
Leaders like you become catalysts for change when they do three things: pick a problem to address, invite others to join

people to a cause that you aren’t willing to own, especially these don’t respect it. When you pick a problem to solve or a cause to rally around, you must have conviction in order to succeed. Over the years, I’ve learned that whenever I feel a sense of conviction about an issue, I need to start moving in the direction I believe I should go, even if I’m uncertain. Action creates ownership, and ownership creates credibility with people. And you need that credibility because transformation cannot be done by one person alone—we all need people to join us on the journey. CONTINUED >

2. Invite Others to Join You When you’ve settled on the problem you want to tackle you should immediately begin looking for others to join you. In the book, Rob and I recommend starting with friends and family; you already have influence with them, and chances are you’re of like mind in many areas. Go to those family members who frequently ask you for advice or seek your opinion on personal matters, as you likely have greater influence with them. To move beyond family, however, you’ll need to take a leap of faith and begin sharing your passion for solving the problem with other people. Passion attracts, and when people come to you with interest, don’t be afraid to ask them what they think or invite them to improve your ideas. Empowering people to help you creates a bond, and once that bond is established, you will quickly discover who you can truly work with and invite them to take action with you.
3. Do What You Can Where You Are Action is the final step. It doesn’t have to be big or grand; it doesn’t even have to be guaranteed of success. Nothing happens in life until someone does something, and once you take your first step, the next step will come into focus. Remember that transformation is a process, not an event. It takes time and repeated action to bring about positive change. So focus on purpose, not perfection, and do what you know to do. These three steps may seem too simple, but I assure you they work. The goal of all transformational movements is making things better however possible. Incremental change is better than the status quo; and when you’re truly committed to making your community a better place, you know that any improvement is a significant improvement.

PARTING THOUGHTS HEALTHY HABITS FOR THE NEW YEAR TO MAKE YOU MORE EFFECTIVE AT WORK

S E L F- CA R E FOR PROFESSIONALS I’VE ALWAYS BEEN A NATURAL LEADER, AND MY SUCCESSES IN MY CAREER HAVE COMPELLED OTHERS TO LEAN ON MY STRATEGIES TO ACHIEVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS WELL. Until this past year, I’ve measured success on outcomes. I had not considered my wellness in my strategic planning because business was business. As it has for many others this past year, COVID slowed me down. Well, not initially. At first, I was working 12 to 14-hour days helping my current clients, future clients, and businesses that were shutting down. Instantly spoiled by the convenience of convening with others without needing to build in travel time between meetings, I attended every virtual event I could for nearly six

FOCUSED ON WHAT MATTERS MOST "Maureen helped us navigate from start to finish in buying our forever (we hope) home and selling our old one. She always had our best interests at heart and advocated for us from start to finish. She was responsive and explained each step to us. She worked with our contractors to make sure that our house sold at the price we wanted, and used her expertise in interior design to help us envision how we would set up our new house as we were looking at houses. Finally, she was a joy to work with, and we would use her again in a heartbeat." - Client Review on Zillow Maureen Lunne, Broker/Realtor | 937.367.7796 | Maureen@ReignOhio.com 35 E.
