Studying Chiropractic at Life University Although becoming a chiropractor requires a significant commitment in terms of study, clinical experience and personal motivation, even the process itself is rewarding – especially at LIFE. There’s no better place to make your journey from student to doctor. Here is why… Vision and Philosophy Our purpose is to provide students with the vision to fulfill their innate potential, the inspiration to engage in a quest for self-discovery, and the ability to apply a principled approach to their future roles as leaders in humanitarian service and as citizens in their communities. From its founding in 1974 as a College of Chiropractic, Life University has embraced the idea that humans are spiritual beings whose lives are directed by universal laws including the innate ability to develop, heal and adapt as long as the body is kept free of interferences. Our approach has been to graduate highly skilled chiropractors who can correct those interferences and can educate their patients to accept responsibility for their own good health. Today, Life University’s vitalistic vision is sustained in its chiropractic programs, which

set the standard for excellence in contemporary health care education. A participatory learning environment develops Eight Core Proficiencies through contemporary, proven techniques that encourage optimal performance and lifelong intellectual growth. LIFE’s promise: With its vitalistic vision, clearly defined performance proficiencies and measurable criteria for success, a Life University education will produce leaders who exemplify humanistic values and, in a world where change is constant, provide innovative approaches to direct that change to elevate society and evolve its health care system. Technique and Biomechanics What’s the best way to get better at something? Practice, of course. That’s why LIFE students get more time in technique classes (learning how to adjust the bones of the spine) than students at any other chiropractic college. It’s also why we teach technique only in small groups of 20 students or fewer – compared to typical classes more than twice that size. That way, your expert faculty (never a teaching assistant) can provide plenty of hands-on instruction so you will learn what to do, see how it’s done, and do it yourself again and again.

Clinical Care The clinical setting is where you put everything you learn in the classroom into practice with real patients. We believe in exposing students to clinical care from the first quarter. You will see Chiropractic in action first as a patient and clinical observer, gradually stepping up to assisting in procedures and eventually running your own micro-practice caring for patients from the community in our outpatient clinic. Real-life clinical study is also embedded throughout your courses, including extensive case studies directly from our own patient files. In class, you will review the actual x-rays, health histories and results, and compare your analysis to what was done in practice. In addition to the extensive hands-on training with expert faculty, LIFE students enjoy providing outpatient clinical care in our unrivaled 30,000 square-foot Center for Health and Optimum Performance (C-HOP). Chiropractic students see more than 60,000 patient visits here each year in our state-of-the-art facility. In the well-appointed patient education rooms, student doctors educate patients with flat screen televisions that display digital x-rays or educational films. In the generously sized examination rooms, they use

computerized diagnostic instrumentation to identify abnormalities along the spine and then graphically display the readings via in-room computer screens. In the theater-style Case Presentation Room, the latest digital x-ray equipment enables student doctors to enlarge images to fill a wall-mounted screen in high resolution so everyone in the room can see the specifics of studies being discussed. You won’t find this level of sophistication in almost any other chiropractic institution. Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology At LIFE, we infuse significant diplomatelevel neuroanatomy and neurophysiology education directly into the curriculum. We do this so our students will have the most thorough understanding of how the nervous system controls and coordinates all body systems in order to maintain a state of health and optimal function. Taught by a faculty member who holds the diplomate credential in neuroanatomy, this coursework ensures LIFE graduates have the depth of knowledge needed to provide outstanding and thorough patient care, and to work in the interdisciplinary environment characteristic of contemporary practice.

Success in Practice While our students receive the education, training and hands-on practice needed to become exemplary clinicians, LIFE also provides the most extensive business training of any chiropractic college in the world. With the unique advantage of having an on-campus business department, our students learn the business side of chiropractic practice from experienced and highly credentialed business faculty members. Whereas most chiropractic colleges’ business courses are taught by chiropractors, our students learn marketing, management, entrepreneurship and computer information management from expert business faculty who have devoted their professional lives to their discipline. But the fourth-year capstone experience is what really sets LIFE apart and gets students talking. Our students choose from two of the top chiropractic practice management consulting firms in the country and receive extensive training directly from the pros – the same people new graduates and established doctors often pay thousands of dollars each year to help them learn and manage their practices. With more than 100 business education hours in the curriculum, there’s no worrying about how you will get up and running in practice, or if you’ll be successful in joining an existing practice. You’ll already be way ahead of the competition.

Study Abroad, Research and Practicum Opportunities Another rewarding and life-changing experience available to LIFE students is study abroad at clinics in places such as China, Sweden, New Zealand, Ghana, Costa Rica or Peru. Students spend a quarter immersed in the culture of another part of the world, enhancing their clinical skills, working under the supervision of extension faculty doctors, and observing patients with clinical conditions less frequently encountered in U.S. chiropractic clinics. Senior students may also elect to provide care to underserved populations through our Outreach program, provide care at select Veterans Administration (VA) facilities, conduct faculty-guided research projects, or learn in a private doctor’s office through our PEAK (Practice Excellence, Art and Knowledge) extern program. The Campus Experience Life University’s campus is set in suburban Atlanta among more than 100 acres of trees, hills, streams and pathways. It is a true college campus with a balance of contemporary academic buildings and natural green spaces, making it a hidden gem in the metro area. LIFE is committed to providing not only a safe environment, but also a healthy one. As practitioners of health and wellness, we lead by example. We are a tobacco-free campus; students, faculty and staff have full use of our clinic and Wellness Center; our dining facility serves only healthy, organic and local food; and our recycling, biodegrading and composting

programs all contribute to making us a truly sustainable community. Life University is a founding member of the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, and that is a responsibility we take very seriously. Just walking around campus, one can’t help feeling the positive energy of the students, faculty and staff of Life University. It’s not just a place to go to school, it’s a community of people who genuinely care for each other. Clubs, intramural sports, study groups and other opportunities give students a sense of belonging that is difficult to find in most postgraduate environments. LIFE is also a diverse campus atmosphere with a rich heritage and unique culture. We have students from all 50 U.S. states and more than 30 countries. As the largest stand-alone chiropractic college in the world, we attract students from every

corner of the globe and every walk of life. LIFE also has an active Diversity Committee, represented by students, faculty and staff, who arrange cultural events, activities and field trips in order to broaden the horizons of all inclined. Although tucked away in a rustic corner of Atlanta, you can still enjoy all the fun and entertainment the city has to offer. From professional sports, to arts and culture; and from electrifying nightlife, to hiking and outdoor activities; there’s no better place to be when it comes to your college experience.

The Eight Ways to Great Because we believe students are best served by a curriculum that provides life skills as well as profession-specific competencies, our students explore LIFE’s Eight Core Proficiencies throughout their academic experience. Seminars and coursework on these contemporary topics, chronicled on individualized electronic portfolios, provide students with a strong foundation for professional success, social contribution and cultural change. These are skills that serve LIFE students throughout their lives regardless of their chosen career paths – skills for living and leading in a rapidly changing world.

for achieving optimal wellness without drugs, radiation and surgery. Becoming a chiropractor won’t be easy, but it will be worth it. The coursework required for a career in Chiropractic is intense because being a DC requires mastery of in-depth knowledge in anatomy, physiology, and human chemistry and function. For practicing DCs (the path a majority of chiropractic students aspire to) it also requires a thorough understanding of how to run a successful business. At LIFE, you’ll learn all this and more. Taking responsibility for the safety, health and wellbeing of your patients is an honor and a commitment that goes to the core of who a chiropractor is and what he or she does. It is also one of the most rewarding aspects of a chiropractic career. Using your own two hands to unlock the power of the human body with a simple, specific adjustment; and seeing a patient respond with joy, wonder and a feeling of well-being they didn’t know existed, is something only a chiropractor can experience – and you can experience it every single day you go to work.
