This is a vast continent of contrasts. Geographically, the differences are extreme. Culturally, there is so much to intrigue. Here it’s not only accents that change, but also the heritage, the customs, the tastes, the pace, the humour, the very essence of life, inspired by all kinds of influences. With American Queen Voyages™ explore further inland as only paddle steamships can or take to the open sea to experience what adventure really means. Sate your curiosity and travel in a way that remains to this day the most authentic North America.
To really see North America, to understand the land and its people, you need to explore not only the iconic cities, but the pathways between. American Queen Voyages encourages guests to slow down and meander the waterways, to explore an America you thought you knew, in an entirely different way.
American Queen Voyages embodies the story of America’s fabled rivers in our iconic red paddle wheelers. Over the past 10 years, our flagship riverboat, American Queen, has traversed the waterways throughout the Deep South and the Heartland. She meanders as far north as Minneapolis, as far south as New Orleans, and as far west as Pittsburgh, on occasion even journeying along the Tennessee and Cumberland rivers. On the Mississippi, she’s joined by American Duchess, our boutique riverboat, while American Empress calls the Columbia and Snake rivers of the Pacific Northwest her home, while American Countess travels where the soul of the American South flows.
We’ve built an award-winning fleet of paddle wheelers and boats. They’re your home away from home, and wherever they go, curious locals line up along the shores welcoming passengers when they arrive and waving goodbye when they leave. Every journey is all-inclusive and complete with on board activities, shore excursions, genuine hospitality, elevated dining, and sophisticated accommodation.
On every journey discovery runs deep. From the sounds of New Orleans Jazz to the taste of Memphis barbecue and the tales of Mark Twain, our iconic red paddle wheelers churn with new possibilities and adventure ahead.
The first steamboat to travel the Mississippi was the New Orleans. Without her, Samuel Clemens would never have become a steamboat pilot or become an author by the name of Mark Twain, and cities like Memphis and St. Louis would be small towns rather than transportation hubs.
Mark Twain’s iconic novel, ‘The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn’ is published, enshrining the Mississippi river as an ideal of freedom.
The American Queen is the largest steamboat paddle wheeler ever built. Spanning 418 feet the steamboat features 6 decks, over 200 staterooms and suites and requires a crew of over 170 people.
American Queen Voyages acquires and restores the American Queen to her former glory. The American Queen is christened in Memphis by Godmother Priscilla Presley with a bottle of champagne and sets sail on her first voyage.
American Empress joins the fleet as a dedicated vessel for the Snake & Columbia River.
Although built in 2020, American Countess was christened in 2021. The inaugural season of the newly built Ocean Victory begins with a landmark expedition to the hidden wilderness of Alaska and British Columbia.
Embark on a journey through the hidden corners of North America, where a deeper discovery of the continent awaits. Step into a Mark Twain story on the mighty Mississippi River, where the sights, sounds, and smells of New Orleans serve as a warm welcome. Explore the rugged coasts of Alaska as naturalists lead the way. Let your curiosity guide you through the history, traditions and cultures of North America.
Immerse yourself in the untouched wilderness of Southeast Alaska, venturing deep into its hidden treasures, which embody the true meaning of the great outdoors. Experience a profound connection to the land and its people as you explore remote indigenous villages and engage with their rich cultures.
For centuries, the allure of the Columbia and Snake Rivers has beckoned explorers and adventurers alike. Follow in the footsteps of US explorers Lewis and Clark, as you embark on an adventure through timbered landscapes, breathtaking coastlines and rolling hills dotted with vineyards. Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Native American history, where adventure awaits at every river bend.
In this beautiful region, majestic bald eagles soar over verdant landscapes, architectural wonders and towering skylines, while along the river bends, charming historic towns invite you to explore. Discover the enchanting region that was a muse to Mark Twain, whose literary works brought this picturesque area to life.
Be swept away by the mesmerising songs, sounds and currents of the Delta and immerse yourself in the soulful melodies of Memphis and New Orleans jazz.
