The panels were part of Schwind's contribution to Triënnale 3, Bruges, in 1974. – In these 'textes de synthèse' he treats six aspects of the creative process – la technique, l'imagination, le geste, la mémoire, la signification, le mythe. 'They viscerally make up part of Schwind's mental universe: the rage flowing through them bears sufficient witness. They are in a way a subjective commentary, a "figurative" counterpoint to an eminently mental effort.' For Schwind it was also, and mainly, a fine occasion to pass an extremely positive final judgment on his career, to look back with great satisfaction on his grand game of references that via endless diversions and detours had taken on the guise of a labyrinth.
