Scientists in China struggle... ...to save the last 1000 pandas The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, in southwestern China's Sichuan province, is the heart of the country's campaign to save its national emblem from extinction. It has been the pioneer in using artificial insemination to reproduce the notoriously frigid and infertile animal. Photos and text by Justin Jin/LightMediation
