Young photographers in Wandsworth are being encouraged to enter a new competition based on the borough they are growing up in.

‘What Wandsworth means to me’ is being organised by the Mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor Angela Graham, in order to give youths over 13 years old a chance to show what they are capable of through Instagram. Instagram is a social media platform, popular for its attractive digital filters and which allows photos to be shared across other platforms including online blogs, Facebook and Twitter. All entrants have to do is capture a photo of any subject within Wandsworth and upload it onto Instagram with the hashtag #mywandsworth before March 30 for a chance to win an iPad. The winner ,along with runners up, will have their photo up for sale on April 12 at a special exhibition held at Southside Shopping Centre, in aid of raising money for the Mayor’s Youth Charity. So far, there have been many entries, including photos of iconic buildings, tube stations, residential houses and local attractions.

Councillor Angela Graham has engaged in many of youth projects in the area including her role as Chairman of Wandsworth Young Person of the Year and junior citizen schemes. She has also launched the Wandsworth Young Chef of the Year Award to create vital skills and opportunities to help young adults into employment. “I hope this competition will give an insight into what young people see as meaningful in the borough’s day-to-day-life,” she said. The regeneration of new businesses around Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms has become a great economic stimulation around the area as local businesses sign up for youth
