SMI5 Selector: amazingly miniature, unbelievably rich of features When it comes to your speed & position feedback requirements for linear motors, pick & place robots and electronics & semiconductors manufacturing systems, SMI5 Selector sensor is the right choice. Don't be fooled by its miniature size, it is designed to offer much more than what you could expect! SMI5 Selector is the newest addition to Lika's range of incremental linear sensors. It encompasses a unique 25 x 8.5 x 15 mm (0.98 x 0.33 x 0.59”) sensor head (it is as small as a 5 cent EURO or USD coin) protected by a rugged metal housing and is able to handle extreme shock and vibration impacts as well as large temperature fluctuations (operating temperature range is between -25°C +85°C, -13°F +185°F). The dust-tight and waterproof design is IP68-rated thus it is fully resistant to oil, grease, immersion in water and common chemical contaminants. SMI5 Selector uses an advanced dual element magneto-resistive sensor for producing impressive accuracy even at highest speeds, low modulation rates and superb signal output clarity. It provides liberal mounting tolerances and enables a gap between the sensor and the magnetic substrate of up to 2 mm (0.079”) allowing for unparalleled ease of installation, while still maintaining dependable operation and high performance characteristics. The advanced conversion circuitry is fitted in the encapsulated connector and features automatic gain control (AGC) and automatic

offset correction (AOC) functions for improved signal quality, minimization of the sub-divisional error (SDE) and negligible hysteresis. The non-contact magnetic technology also provides virtually wear & maintenance-free operation, eliminates interference from machine vibrations, delivers insulation protection against damages caused by eddy currents and prevents the mechanical loadings from being transmitted to the sensing system. These features ensure unparalleled reliability over time and longer operating life.

provided in the connector housing; in this way it can suit the specific needs of almost any application. The maximum mechanical speed is up to 16 m/s – 52,49 ft/s. SMI5 Selector is further equipped with two integral diagnostic LEDs to signal errors.

SMI5 Selector is offered along with twin SMI2 Selector model featuring selectable resolutions from 2 to 20 µm. Selector series sensors can be mounted on linear scales (MT series in both 2-mm and 5-mm pole lengths) and magnetic rings (MRI series in both 2-mm and 5mm pole lengths) to easily fit linear and rotary applications, according to needs. Polymer/ferrite composite magnetically encoded scales can be easily applied / removed via a pre-applied self-adhesive backing while magnetic rings are available with 31 to 284-mm The sensor generates square outer diameter (shaft diameter on wave output signals and additio- request). Scales and rings are both nal complementary signals (ABI, highly immune to dirt and external /ABI) and is offered in standard contaminants. Lika’s sensors incorindustry either Push-Pull (HTL) 10- porate high-flex cabling specifically 30VDC or Line-Driver (TTL) 5VDC / suited for use in cable track applications. 10-30VDC output circuits. As its name implies, the resolutions is selectable in the range 5 to 50 µm through the rotary selection switch

IT68: the machine tool heavy-duty encoder IT68 is designed to be perfectly interchangeable with the most popular machine tool encoder type in Asian and Japanese markets without needing any modification. Engineered to be as originals, it offers superior features and greatly advantageous price as none of them. IT68 new incremental encoder from Lika Electronic is intended to specifically satisfy the requirements of all kinds of CNC machine tools; in particular it comes to perfectly replace the most popular machine tool encoder type in Asian and Japanese markets and a wide variety of spindle encoders used in such applications (see table below for a partial list). Thus it is best suited for installation in horizontal & vertical machining centres, die/mold centres, boring machines and spindle motors in general such as for well-known manufacturer brands Yamazaki Mazak Corp. (Mazak), Mori Seiki, Makino, Yaskawa, Fanuc and many others. IT68 spindle encoder offers a rugged mechanical housing with standard 68-mm external diameter, square flange and 15-mm keyed shaft. The rough mechanical construction and selected components allow for installation in demanding and harsh environments suffering from

oil, aggressive contaminants, heavy shaft loads and wide temperature variations. Unlike most competitors, it provides high IP66 protection rating and is claimed to withstand extended -40°C +100°C (-40°F +212°F) operating temperature range. Also from the electrical point of view, IT68 is designed to have the same characteristics as competitors. However it adds extra features and

mental electrical interfaces such as NPN, PNP, Push-Pull, Line Driver and Universal circuit through the MIL 17-pin connector (others on request). The +5VDC ÷ +30VDC Universal circuit is a further remarkable benefit: this well-proven circuit is compatible with both PushPull and Line Driver circuits thus it ensures the highest interfaceability with subsequent electronics. The max. output frequency is up to 300 kHz. In addition outputs are protected against reverse polarity and short-circuit (providing the power voltage is connected properly). IT68 offers unbeatable bargain price and fast delivery and is ideal as spare part and for stock.

IT68 is designed to perfectly replace the following spindle encoders: profitable advantages. First and foremost IT68 boasts a reliable optical technology suitable to endure critical applications and is able to provide resolutions in the whole range up to 10000 PPR (custom PPRs on request). Furthermore this accurate rotary encoder produces digital (square wave) signals with complementary and zero signals (AB0, /AB0) and supports a broad choice of incre
