SSI to CANopen IF55 gateway Connect your Lika SSI encoder to CANopen with the new IF55 gateway, it provides complete integration and full compliance with the CANopen protocol. What is IF55? IF55 is the new gateway from Lika Electronic designed to convert any Lika SSI serial encoder into a CANopen slave complying with the “Device Profile for encoders” Class 2. Thus you get a complete CANopen device with enhanced functions such as scaling, extended diagnostics, velocity information. Whether your SSI device is a singleturn or multiturn rotary encoder or a linear sensor, then you can easily and reliably connect it to the fieldbus network. IF55 gateway fully complies with the CANopen “Device Profile for encoders” Class 2 protocol. Why to use IF55? There are many good reasons why IF55 gateway is of a great benefit. First, in the case of a plant retrofit project, instead of being discarded an existing SSI serial interface encoder can be converted and reused in a more modern and integrated communication system. Furthermore, because of its electronics, a bus encoder has larger dimensions than a SSI model and comes from 58 mm flange design up. Today it is finally possible to install even a small encoder (Ø 36 mm!) or a minimum footprint head sensor in tight spaces not giving up the CANopen technology.

Perfect for: • singleturn and multiturn rotary encoders (for example MS36, MM36, AM36, AM58, ...) • linear encoders (for ex. SMA5, SMA2, SMAX) • bearingless encoders (for example SMRA, ...)

In addition there is no need to make any change either in the hardware or in the software of the SSI encoder, only the converter needs few simple parameters to be programmed. A complete range IF55 gateway is also available with EtherCAT interface complying with ETG.1000 specifications and supporting CoE (CANopen over EtherCAT) and FoE (for firmware upgrade) protocols and the EtherCAT State Machine; and with Profibus DP-Slave interface for devices configurable as Class 1, Class 2 or Class 2(+VEL). IF55 converters use connectors and cables that meet the protocol specifications.

Guided linear encoder also available with CANopen now SMAG is the absolute linear encoder equipped with guide rail for simple and safe installation. Now it offers the advantages of the bus communication and introduces the CANopen interface. SMAG is the guided measuring system for applications requiring rigid scale mounting and attractive price tag. It bases on an absolute scanning head combined with the MTAG magnetic scale that is integrated into an aluminium guide rail. Thanks to the rigid mounting of the scale either the scanning head or the guide rail are designed to move according to the specific application needs. The aluminium profile can be max. 650 mm / 25.6” long for a max. measuring length of 570 mm / 22.4”. SMAG comes in a all-in-one design, so it is delivered ready for the simple installation and requires neither calibration nor adjustments nor alignments. The measuring system is rugged and guarantees smooth running, precision and high reliability with contactless and wear-free operation. Furthermore it is well suited for harsh environments and insensitive to dust, dirt, grease, liquids, etc. due to its IP67 protection and the robust magnetic scanning. SMAG encoder is offered with CANopen interface in addition to the SSI interface now. CAN interface complies with the “Device Profile for encoders” Class 2

and meets the “CIA Draft Standard 301” and the “CIA Draft Standard 406”. Thus it provides the complete set of CANopen functions including full programmability and comprehensive diagnostic information. Among the benefits of the CANopen communication: • position and velocity readout; • scaling function; • preset and offset values; • counting direction; • limit switches; • software settable baud rate and node ID; • extended diagnostics; • CANopen certified cables and connectors. The physical resolution is 5 µm but, as stated, it can be freely scaled according to needs. Typical application fields for SMAG encoder are wood working machinery, bending machines, presses, hydraulic cylinders and a variety of positioning and format changeover tasks both automatic and manual.
