WATCH OUT FOR INVESTMENT SCAMS

When you invest, you’ll find that knowledge is power. The more you know about your investment choices, and who is offering them, the better prepared you’ll be to make the right decisions. This diligence can also help protect you against investment scams.

How widespread is this activity? Consider this: Investment fraud losses totaled more than $4.5 billion in 2023, according to the FBI’s Internet Crime Report.

Here are some of the most common types of investment scams:

• Cryptocurrency – Not all cryptocurrency offers are scams, but many are. The scammers will contact you via social media, claiming they’ve made a lot of money in crypto and are willing to help you do the same. They may direct you to a website or app to invest, but the “company” taking your money may not even exist, and, after taking your money, may disappear.

• Investment programs – These programs claim to have “proven” strategies that can enable you to get rich by investing in financial products. But these strategies are dubious at best and can cost you thousands of dollars that could otherwise go into an investment plan based on your goals, risk tolerance and time horizon.

• Real estate – Typically, a real estate scam tries to get you to invest in a “world-class” or “luxury” property development, but these properties may take years to build, if they’re built at all. Also, various real estate “seminars” claim they can teach you how to get wealthy by buying and selling real estate, but these programs are expensive and usually worthless.

• Gold and other precious metals – Scammers who call themselves “rare coins” merchants may try to sell you gold coins, bullion or other types of precious metals, claiming that these assets will always go up in value (which isn’t true) and that “now is the best time to act.” You can find legitimate ways to invest in precious metals, possibly through mutual funds, but you’ll need to determine whether these assets can be an appropriate part of your investment portfolio.

This article was written by Edward Jones for use by your local Edward Jones Financial Advisor Ken Wood

So, how can you avoid these scams? Here ae some suggestions from the Federal Trade Commission:

• Don’t be pushed into snap decisions. Scammers will pressure you to act quickly because “space is limited” in an investment offering or a “special deal” won’t last long. If someone won’t give you time to consider an offer, it’s not worth considering.

• Be suspicious of “risk-free” claims. All investments carry risk, and no variable investments can claim to provide “guaranteed returns.” If an individual or organization downplays the risk of an investment and doesn’t want to provide risk disclosures, just walk away.

• Ask about licensing or registration. Legitimate investment professionals must be registered with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and be licensed by your state’s securities regulator before they can sell you any investment product. You can check the status of an individual or firm by using FINRA’s BrokerCheck tool at brokercheck.fina.org.

• Do some research. You can search online for the name of the company or individual offering you an investment opportunity. By entering terms such as “review,” “scam,” “fraud” or “complaint,” you may well find that other people have experienced problems or been victimized.

To achieve your financial goals, you’ll likely need to invest for decades — so, be wary of scammers who claim to offer a shortcut to success.

AI’s Impact on Vacation Property Management

The future of efficient, tech-driven rentals

In the highly competitive world of vacation property management, where inefficiency is a critical misstep, speed and optimization are essential for success. Today, property managers are finding an unexpected advantage in artificial intelligence (AI). This technology has already transformed how properties are managed, marketed, and maintained.

For property managers in the Inland Northwest, a region experiencing record tourism, AIdriven tools that automate tasks and enhance pricing and guest experiences are a game-changer. Here’s a closer look at how AI is reshaping the market and the tools leading the way.

The Evolution of Vacation Property Management

A typical week for a vacation property manager involves bookings, cleaning schedules, maintenance requests, guest inquiries, and more. Traditional manual approaches to handling these tasks are effective but inefficient, full of delays and inaccuracies. That’s why AI solutions are being developed to manage these processes, boosting accuracy, enabling efficient revenue management, and improving customer satisfaction.

AI is no longer limited to large enterprises. Whether you run a couple of properties or a wider operation, several smart solutions can help those involved in vacation rental management automate their operations, increase revenues, and personalize their stay for their guests.

Essential AI Tools for Vacation Property Management

By incorporating the use of AI, the following tools are helping managers cope with the frantic day-to-day tasking and concerns often faced within the vacation property management industry:

1. Boosting Rental Income

Dynamic pricing is one of the most important considerations in managing short-term rentals. It entails optimizing price points to ensure properties are appropriately priced without undervaluing rental potential. Beyond employs AI to analyze market data, events, seasonality, and more to suggest ideal nightly rates that are market-competitive and can help maximize occupancy and increase revenue.

2. Simplifying Guest Communication

Property managers often have difficulty keeping up with guest inquiries and keeping in touch with them, especially if they manage multiple properties. Hospitable uses AI to automate responses to guest messages, inquiries, and reviews—if a guest asks a question, the AI will respond. The tool can also be configured to mimic human-like responses, allowing managers to stay ‘online’ 24/7 without constantly checking their phones or keeping their fingers on the keyboard.

3. Streamlining Cleanings

It is of the utmost importance to schedule cleaning crews between guest stays. Keeping up appearances is crucial to the maintenance of successful Airbnbs, and managing a cleaning schedule the old-fashioned way can be timeconsuming, often sacrificing efficiency. That’s where Breezeway comes in. The AI software automatically sets a cleaning schedule based on booking dates, and notifies the cleaning crew in real-time if a property is booked. Turno for Cleaners will also connect to platform calendars, including Airbnb and Vrbo, eliminating the need to manually check the calendars for turnovers. Essentially, all one has to do is click, and the AI does the rest.

“AI is not just changing how we manage our vacation rentals. It’s helping us offer a level of guest service that we could never have imagined through personalized recommendations and dynamic pricing, and that’s

just the beginning.”

– Samantha

The Guest Experience

Customizing the experience is more important than ever, and guests nowadays want to feel like individuals, not just another booking. AI makes this possible by analyzing guest behavior, preferences, and reviews about the available experiences at a property—even before an inquiry is made. If the AI identifies an experience that aligns with the guest’s interests, it ensures that it becomes part of their stay. This personalized approach enhances the overall experience and boosts the chances of repeat bookings and positive reviews.

1. AI Concierge Services

VirtualConcierge (think Siri for your property) offers guests real-time, personalized suggestions about where to go, dine, and play based on their individual profiles and past behavior, which a system can analyze. By recommending experiences that align with their preferences, the guest’s stay is improved, and the property manager can offer a more personally tailored service without additional staff.

2. Smart Home Technology

Vacation properties are increasingly installing home management systems powered by AI, such as Nest and Alexa, that enable guests to adjust lighting, temperature, or even entertainment with simple voice commands. This

gives the properties a modern appeal and allows remote property managers to monitor energy use while providing a more seamless and enjoyable guest experience.

3. Streamlining Check-Ins and Check-Outs

The latest wave of AI is revolutionizing how property managers handle visitor check-ins and check-outs. Companies like Go Keyless are leveraging cutting-edge technology to streamline these processes, enabling managers to set remote access codes, schedule precise check-in and check-out times, and track real-time entry and exit logs. This enhances security and simplifies property management, offering a seamless experience for both guests and managers.

4. Predictive Analytics for Guest Preferences

AirDNA uses AI to parse reviews and booking patterns, and it can flag property owners about things past guests have liked or didn’t like about their stay. For instance, if a property attracts families, the AI might recommend adding child-friendly features such as cribs or high chairs. Property managers can then take steps before many guests have checked in, ensuring they have an experience far beyond what they expect.

Personalized In-Home Care

Operational Efficiency

AI innovation is revolutionizing vacation rental management by increasingly taking care of the behind-the-scenes operational needs of property managers. This allows them to scale their business without dramatically increasing their workload. Predictive maintenance, for example, is a gamechanging benefit of AI-powered tools for managers who want to avoid guest complaints before they crop up.

1. Predictive Maintenance

For instance, AppFolio Property Manager, an AIpowered tool, uses historical repair data and current usage to predict when something in a property will likely break down. This allows the property manager

to schedule the repair when the property is vacant rather than having to rush out at the last minute to fix something that could disturb the guest’s stay. This tool helps property managers save money while ensuring guests enjoy a pleasant stay.

2. Automated Marketing and Guest Retention

AI is also being used to transform vacation property marketing. Companies such as Guesty and Lodgify use AI algorithms to power marketing campaigns—for example, displaying personalized offers based on a guest’s browsing behavior and retargeting ads to encourage them to return to a website and make a booking. These platforms help property managers to target potential guests based on their interests and search history to help fill empty properties in quieter seasons. They can also send personalized follow-up emails to previous guests with the goal of securing repeat bookings.

“Predictive maintenance keeps us from being surprised,” Mark explains. “It ensures the property is always in the best condition possible, which translates to happy guests and great reviews.”

– Mark Redding, COO at Green Mountain Stays

“AI has automated our marketing, allowing us to reach guests year-round,” says Eliza. “We’re using AI at the right time to get bookings even in the off-season.”

– Eliza Clarke, Co-Founder of SkyView Vacation Properties

The Financial Edge

Dynamic pricing allows vacation rentals to adjust rates based on various market factors. AI tools analyze thousands of data points—local events, market demand, competitor pricing, weather, and last-minute bookings—to determine optimal pricing strategies that maximize revenue.

1. Beyond Pricing and Pricelabs

AI tools like Beyond Pricing and Pricelabs have become essential for effective vacation management by helping property managers reduce vacancies and increase revenue. By optimizing prices in real-time, these tools ensure you aren’t leaving money on the table, driving profitability while minimizing unoccupied nights.

2. Increasing Guest Satisfaction

In addition to boosting revenue, dynamic pricing tools enhance the guest experience by adjusting rates to reflect real-time conditions, offering competitive pricing while filling vacant dates. AI ensures that prices align with market demand and guest expectations, leading to more bookings and positive reviews. Property managers can stay responsive to changing conditions to keep their bottom line and guest satisfaction high, creating a win-win scenario for all involved.

AI: The Future of Vacation Property Management

The Inland Northwest is leading the way in adopting AI for vacation rental management, and its impact will only grow as the technology evolves. Dynamic pricing, automated guest communication, and predictive maintenance make rental operations more efficient while enhancing guest satisfaction. AI isn’t just a trend—it’s transforming the industry, boosting profitability and guest experiences. As property managers embrace these tools, they’ll find that staying ahead in the AI race is key to staying competitive in a crowded market.

AI isn’t just a trend— it’s transforming the industry, boosting profitability and guest experiences.

Jackie Suarez began her real estate career in 1988 as a paralegal and legal assistant, searching land titles and coordinating closings. She then became a branch manager for a title insurance company.

“I was fascinated by title history, from the first grant to the current owner,” she recalls. “These documents represented life-changing decisions for people.”

Jackie became a real estate agent in 2000 and, within a few years, acquired her Associate Broker’s license. Her decades of experience allow her to navigate various market trends and empower her to help clients through challenging times.

As the real estate market changes, Jackie recognizes the need to adapt and review strategies. “Our market is constantly moving,” she says. “Being flexible, using new tools, and always learning more is crucial.” Jackie understands that preparation and research are essential, whether it involves volatile interest rates, a competitive buyer’s market, or slower economic conditions.

“We’ve shifted recently,” she says. “Clients need to be aware of how a trend affects their buying or selling decisions.” Jackie’s ability to pivot and adjust each step of the way, from pricing and advertising to negotiations, ensures her clients are always well-informed. She invests time in researching local and national markets and counsels her clients accordingly.

Jackie attributes much of her success to a foundation built on solid core principles. “There’s no secret to it,” she explains. “You work hard, focus on your clients’ needs, and prioritize what’s most important — God, family, and relationships.” Because these principles are reflected in everything she does, clients approach her for some of their most consequential decisions.

To Jackie, her clients are not simply transactions, but relationships she values deeply. They appreciate her transparent communication, thoroughness, and uncompromising concern for their best interests. For new home buyers, retirees, investors seeking maximum returns, and beyond, Jackie tailors her services to each client’s needs.

Outside of work, Jackie and her husband Carlos live on their North Idaho farm with their two dogs, Rocket and Eddie. Their love for the area is evident in their pastimes, from enjoying the lake in the summer to skiing at Schweitzer Mountain in the winter. “I’m so blessed to work and live here in Sandpoint. It’s our favorite place on earth.”

Let Jackie Suarez guide you through the changing market here in North Idaho.

Revolutionizing Real Estate Markets With

Transforming the future of buying and selling real estate in the Inland Northwest

While the industry of buying/ selling homes has long remained unchanged in its traditions of face-to-face relationships and transactions, it is now experiencing a revolution unlike any other. From automated real estate recommendations to property valuation and walk-throughs, Artificial Intelligence (AI) isn’t merely optimizing the selling and buying experience; it’s reinventing it. AI-based technology for buyers, sellers, and agents is already playing a significant role in the Inland Northwest, a beautiful millennial technology hub, showing AI’s potential in real estate. But how does AI alter the field? And where will it all go from here in the manualized market?

“AI gives buyers access to hidden properties they wouldn’t have discovered using traditional search tools,” says John Donovan, a real estate AI developer. “The system predicts needs before buyers even know what they are looking for.”

A Whole New World for Buyers:

Individualized buyer journeys powered by predictive algorithms

In the contemporary hyper-competitive real estate world, prospective buyers no longer want to browse hundreds of listings to locate their perfect home. AI is where this gets tricky, with forecasting algorithms (such as in Zillow’s AI-powered Zestimate tool) or search engines like Compass’ AI-powered search that use user characteristics, actions, and budget. These advanced systems access information and generate a custom-fit list of properties, simplifying the process and speeding up decision-making. In Spokane, for example, through AI-powered websites such as Realtor.com or Opendoor, potential purchasers can type in square feet, price range, and location preferences. Then, AI tools deliver live matches and forecast what may be available on the market in the near future using historical data and location. The “know-how” of the sellers gives them an advantage in the market, and sometimes even before a property is on the market.

Now sellers can access

tools we couldn’t have imagined five years ago.

Sellers Save:

Time-efficient pricing and marketing

Selling a home used to be based on guesswork, outdated information, and imprecise property valuation. But AI in real estate is pushing property brokers into the future of pricing their homes to obtain the maximum value for their clients. Apps such as Redfin’s AI-powered price calculator and HouseCanary’s machine learning models value a home on all sorts of factors, from recent sales to market trends, neighborhood development, or even the economy. For example, in the case of Coeur d’Alene, this is an emerging market where home prices go up and down quickly. The way consumers receive potential homes for sale is forever changing as AI-powered systems, like Adwerx, allow for hyper-targeted digital advertising — reaching the right buyers at the right time. What about a home on Priest Lake? AI is doing the heavy lifting to ensure the ad reaches local residents and cities across Seattle or Portland who may be looking for a second home base.

Fueling the Realtor’s Role:

For agents, AI might seem like a terrifying prospect. But in reality, it’s turning out to be an increasingly helpful addition to agents’ existing expertise. AI will do the repetitive work in real estate (such as searching through mountains of listings or extracting buyer information) and let agents do what they do best: build relationships and negotiate deals. Realtors in Sandpoint leverage AI-driven CRM tools such as Follow Up Boss and BoomTown to better understand their customers. Thanks to natural language processing (NLP) tools, AI algorithms can learn from a customer’s messaging, needs, and behaviors to provide realtors with the ability to personalize. This could include automatically emailing a group of homes to a particular buyer/seller. Still, it enables agents to understand what matters most to each buyer/seller and connect more personally. Furthermore, AI-powered CRM (customer relationship management) platforms like Chime and RealGeeks allow realtors to keep perfect follow-up routines. Such CRMs can even predict when a client is ready to move based on life events such as new opportunities in work or a new school district, keeping agents on top.

Looking Ahead:

AI and the future of real estate

The Inland Northwest is about to embark on a technological revolution, and the property industry isn’t the only one waiting to take full advantage of AI. With the technology evolving further, there is no limit to what can be accomplished. From Matterport’s virtual reality tours that can walk through properties in their homes to AI assistants such as OpenAI’s GPT steering negotiations, the future holds an unhindered, tech-infused real estate experience. However, there are moral issues associated with the appearance of AI. What authority should machines have in a deeply personal process like buying a home? Are algorithms actually going to explain the affective, human nature of real estate transactions? Such questions will be worth asking as the field develops, but the fact is AI has already revolutionized the market and will continue to do so.

Adopting AI means staying current and on the cutting edge for the real estate community across the Inland Northwest — from Coeur d’Alene to Spokane and beyond. As real estate has always been based in relationships involving trust and the tactile experience of a handshake transaction, AI demonstrates that there is room for both new technology and old-school technique. Combining the human voice with machine vision generates an unmatchable hybrid, driving automation and personalization at an all-time high. With the evolving properties of the Inland Northwest on the rise, the importance of AI in real estate will only increase and drive a smarter, faster, and more creative future.

Winter Indoor Gardening: Create Your Green Oasis

Simple tips for nurturing fresh herbs, veggies, and plants

While cold weather slows down outdoor gardening, it certainly doesn’t have to stop your growing efforts. There’s plenty of opportunity for indoor gardening in the winter — and when the snow starts falling, you can still successfully grow a variety of plants, from herbs and vegetables to other greenery. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener looking to keep growing through the winter or new to gardening and ready to create an indoor oasis, this guide will help you get started.

I. Seeds of Success

When it comes to maintaining an indoor garden, especially in the cold season, the key to successful winter gardening is choosing plants that will grow or survive in your home’s unique environment. Most gardeners report success with herbs from seeds in their containers and free-growing inside. Basil, mint, rosemary, and thyme are easy-to-grow perennials that produce plentiful produce and fragrant fresh flavors that dried grocery store herbs can’t match. Leafy greens such as lettuce, spinach, and arugula are excellent cold-season plants that grow quickly, can be harvested multiple times in containers, and offer a convenient way to enjoy fresh, organic produce right at home. Dwarf fruit trees such as lemons and limes can make for the ideal centerpiece of your indoor oasis – and a surprising decorative flourish for your living space.

II. Light Up Your Life

When it comes growing plants indoors year-round, especially during the cold months when sunlight is at a premium, success is often due to proper lighting. Plants need light, and a lot of it — six to eight hours of good sunlight per day when measured outside. That’s why, when gardening indoors, a grow light is a must. LED grow lights, in particular, are best for this because they produce the correct wavelength of light for photosynthesis, don’t take up a lot of space, and won’t overheat your home. Position them above your plants so the light is spread over them evenly, depending on their size. Often, a single grow light can support multiple plants, ensuring each gets what they need. Most grow lights also come with a timer, making it easy to manage light exposure throughout the day without constantly checking on them.

Temperature and humidity are essential to your at-home indoor garden, especially as the plants navigate the cold season. During the winter, most houseplants thrive in 40-60% humidity. During the colder months, you may notice your heater running at full blast, filling your home with dry air and affecting the indoor environment. You may need to add humidity to the mix. The easiest ways to do this are to add a humidifier near where your plants are growing or set out water trays that will evaporate on their own.

As many of us heat our homes in the winter, paying attention to the temperature is vital. While you might enjoy staying cozy when the heater runs at full blast, most plants prefer a more moderate temperature range to thrive in 65 to 75 degrees. Keep them away from drafts and heating vents, avoiding temperature swings that might otherwise stress your plants. You can use a thermometer to measure the temperature around the plants and make adjustments where necessary to ensure that your plants love their living environment.

Hydroponics is a type of gardening where you skip the soil and place plants in water mixed with nutrients, which can be an ideal method for container gardening. Plants flourish with this method, especially when grown indoors or in smaller spaces, because it is the perfect method to keep things clean, dry, and easy to deal with. A system like this may initially seem complicated, but there are simple ways to make hydroponics work for you. Whether growing

The Kratky method of hydroponics is one of the easiest to use. Plants should be placed in a shallow reservoir of nutrient-rich water, allowing their roots to absorb what they need. Hydroponics is an excellent way to grow greens indoors, especially during the cold season, as plants can grow faster without searching for soil nutrients.

V. Microgreen Magic

There are so many plants that you can grow in your home this winter, and one of the easiest is microgreens, which require consistent watering for optimal growth. Once set up, these tiny sprouts of vegetables and herbs, grown from seeds, can be harvested and enjoyed with minimal effort. Radish, sunflower, and broccoli are some of the simplest microgreens to grow, requiring only a shallow tray on your windowsill and a balanced fertilizer for optimal results. To give your microgreens the best chance to thrive, use hydroponic grow mats or coconut coir for an easy, low-maintenance setup that encourages healthy growth.

VI. Indoor Oasis

With an indoor garden system, you can keep your home lush and growing all winter with bounties of fresh herbs and produce. There are ways to keep your garden happy, no matter how cold, with the right plants, lighting, temperature control, and growing systems. Whether you want to start your oasis with a few herbs on the windowsill or an entire system inside, the options are endless. With this guide, you’ll be on your way to creating your green oasis at home and beating the winter blues.

BUILDING A HEALTHIER TOMORROW

A plan for national wellness strategies and innovations for improving America's health

Today, six in ten adults suffer from a chronic disease, and one in five suffer from a mental disorder.

With chronic disease, mental illness, and developmental disorders on the rise, America is in a health crisis that can’t be ignored. Today, six in ten adults suffer from a chronic disease, and one in five suffer from a mental disorder. The prevalence of obesity has increased to 41.9%, and poor diets and sedentary lifestyle patterns have elevated the likelihood of developing severe health conditions.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) rates have risen significantly over time. During the 1970s, autism was considered rare, with estimates suggesting about 1 in 2,500 children were diagnosed. By 2000, this figure had increased to 1 in 150, and today, the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network at the CDC reports that 1 in 36 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with ASD. If you are born in California, the likelihood increases to approximately 1 in 24.

Another significant concern is the rise of adolescent mental illness—50% of 18- to 24-year-olds experience moderate to severe anxiety and depression. Such figures speak to the need for a wellness revolution of lifestyle change, health maintenance, and resources for people who suffer from physical and mental illnesses.

In this feature, we explore new advancements that offer real hope for a healthier, stronger future. Along the way, we talk to some of the area’s leading specialists in alternative health solutions, sharing their insights and practical advice for making positive changes.

Transforming Healthcare Through Prevention

Wearable health devices like smartwatches, fitness trackers (e.g., Apple Watch, Fitbit), and smart rings (e.g., Oura) are at the forefront of health protection. They offer real-time monitoring of vital metrics such as heart rate, oxygen levels, and sleep patterns to detect irregularities early on. These devices provide discreet, continuous monitoring, with smart rings offering added comfort and extended battery life. Sitting and waiting for illness is yesterday’s outdated thinking; the future of healthcare requires a shift toward preventive detection, where regular evaluations and real-time health data can catch potential dangers before they become life-threatening.

Imagine routine health exams, cancer screenings, and daily blood pressure or cholesterol checks as empowering experiences instead of moments of fear. Preventive care saves lives and strengthens the foundation of a healthier, more resilient nation while lowering healthcare costs.

Wearable tech is set to grow rapidly, especially in the realm of health and wellness. More people are using implants in their arms, for example, where they can hold their phones up to scan and read their blood sugar levels. Undoubtedly, we’ll see many more applications of this technology in the near future.

Holistic Healing for Body and Mind

Holistic healing is an integrated wellness system that transcends conventional therapies such as chiropractic and acupuncture. It emphasizes the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and soul as essential to overall well-being. The real cure doesn’t merely treat symptoms; it focuses on restoring equilibrium and harmony in all aspects of life. By eliminating the underlying causes of discomfort and developing sustainable health, holistic practices offer life-changing interventions that speak directly to the individual.

Through techniques such as meditation, herbal supplements, and mindfulness, holistic medicine provides pathways often overlooked by mainstream medicine. Practices like yoga and mindfulness have proven particularly effective at reducing stress and anxiety, two primary contributors to physical and emotional health challenges. These methods empower individuals to control their well-being, combining ancient natural therapies with cutting-edge knowledge to achieve lasting health.

“Our bodies are like an aquarium, and our lymphatic system is the filter,” says Allison Allen, owner of Dermatherapie Skin Spa.“With over a decade of experience in Vodder Lymphatic Drainage, I am able to boost this system manually and release

Reimagining Nutrition: Energy for a Nation’s Future

We live in a time when what we eat either propels us into a healthy future or steers us toward a chronic disease epidemic. Fast food, processed food, and high-fructose diets contribute to widespread obesity and illness. To make matters worse, many toxic chemicals in our food, banned abroad, are still used in the U.S. Atrazine, for example, is a widely used pesticide that is banned in Europe due to its hormone-disrupting health effects over the long term, potentially leading to serious reproductive and developmental issues.

The obstacles can seem daunting, but they are not insurmountable. With proper education, we can better manage our health by becoming aware of the potential risks and ingredients we consume. We can implement healthier diets, make better choices, and craft a healthier, happier future.

Food powers the body, mind and soul, and whole-food, nutrient-rich choices, such as raw vegetables, unprocessed meats, and whole grains, will do far more than keep us alive: they can also help save us from heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, and more. Whole foods are the instruments of change for a healthier future.

muscle tension in the facial structure to create natural lifting, sculpting, and overall increase in skin health non-invasively with my unique facial protocols.”

In this way, holistic healing addresses exterior and interior health, recognizing the interdependence of body systems and the importance of caring for them holistically. Holistic healing is not just an alternative— it’s an essential part of the future of health and wellness. Embracing methods that align the physical, mental, and emotional dimensions offers a blueprint for a healthier, more balanced life.

“Many of my clients want to take a more holistic approach to the loss of elasticity as we age and seek alternatives to injections, and there truly are so many options. Some of my personal at-home favorites to maintain firmness and radiance of the skin over the years are facial cupping, red light therapy, and face taping.”

The power that made the body heals the body.

Health vs. Innovation: The Force of Technology

Technology is redefining our well-being — from advanced algorithms that crunch medical data to the ability to receive online health consultations. Artificial intelligence transforms health by detecting precursors of cancer, Alzheimer’s, and cardiovascular diseases based on scans, genomes, and past medical history. Healthcare providers can see problems sooner than ever and deliver necessary interventions to save lives. By relying on AI-driven early detection, healthcare is more predictive and can prevent health conditions before they become acute. This technology is not only the future of healthcare but the future of preventive medicine.

At the same time, alternative technologies are emerging to expand our understanding of health and wellness. For example, the Energy Enhancement System (EES) represents a significant shift in how we approach healing. By generating an energy field that interacts with the body at a cellular level, the EES supports detoxification, oxygenation, and the body’s natural self-healing processes. This technology empowers individuals to optimize their well-being, addressing a wide range of conditions.

“The power that made the body heals the body.”

– Susan Bowman | Owner, 7B Energy Wellness Center 7bEnergyWellness.com

Other innovations, like Scalar Wave Technology and Frequency-Specific Microcurrent (FSM), similarly focus on leveraging energy to enhance cellular communication and reduce inflammation, offering noninvasive solutions to chronic conditions. While different in application, these approaches share a common goal: to work harmoniously with the body’s natural systems.

Meanwhile, Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT) utilizes low-level lasers or LEDs to stimulate tissue repair and neurological recovery. This complements systems like EES by emphasizing nontraditional, energy-focused healing methods.

These technologies point to a future where health innovation integrates AI-driven advancements with alternative approaches that harness the body’s innate intelligence. This dynamic interplay redefines preventive care, healing, and wellness, offering new hope to those seeking holistic solutions.

At the heart of 7B Energy Wellness Center in Ponderay, Idaho, is the Energy Enhancement System (EES), a technology designed to empower the body’s natural healing processes. This technology creates an energy field in the room that interacts with the body by charging the body’s cells, promoting detoxification, oxygenation, and overall healing.

The results clients have experienced are nothing short of extraordinary, providing a glimpse into the future of health. Testimonials from around the world, as well as from local clients, reveal improvements in conditions ranging from chronic pain and autoimmune disorders to epilepsy, cancer, and even neurological conditions like autism and Parkinson’s disease, rapid healing from injury and surgery, and so much more.

“The human body is intelligently designed to self-heal, and once it has the energy to do so, it will,” says Susan Bowman, owner of 7B Energy Wellness Center. "Come and experience the future of health."

The War on Chronic Illness: A New Day

Heart disease, diabetes, and obesity are more than diseases; they’re crises in a national context, affecting quality of life and burdening healthcare. However, the reality is that most of these conditions can be avoided. The right treatments and lifestyle interventions—education, exercise, and nutrition—can eliminate many major diseases.

Prevention is possible through public health initiatives, informed doctors, and personalized care; we must show people that lifestyle interventions can prevent the onset of chronic disease. Americans should be equipped with the tools to take control of their health and fight for their well-being.

Healthy Lifestyle Products: Transformational Tools

Healthy living requires implementing the right practices and having the right tools to make those practices effective. From standing desks that counteract the damaging effects of a sedentary lifestyle to home gym equipment that makes fitness accessible, lifestyle products play vital roles in our personal health journeys.

Whether it's drinking enough water, eating nutritious food, or using a supportive product, implementing the right lifestyle practices can make the difference between a typical day and an active, healthy one. From motionsensitive fitness trackers to standing desks encouraging movement, healthy lifestyle devices are more than conveniences; they can revolutionize how we feel and move through our day.

A Healthy Country in Motion

America’s health crisis may sometimes feel colossal, but it is not hopeless. We can shape a healthier, more vibrant future through early healthcare screening, nutritious eating, integrative wellness, technology, chronic disease prevention, and practical lifestyle products.

Restoring America’s wellness foundation starts with companies and individuals coming together to promote a brighter, healthier future. Enterprises that embrace health solutions create a win-win situation for their customers and contribute to a healthier nation.

Sponsorships across these critical health categories also allow brands to position themselves as advocates for change, encouraging customers to live better lives through proactive health behaviors.

24 Years of Care WITH AAGING BETTER IN-HOME CARE

Compassionate, experienced in-home care for the Inland Northwest

Twenty-four years of experience. This level of expertise means that Brandt and Melissa Weaver, owners of AAging Better In-Home Care, have witnessed firsthand most situations that can occur in a person’s life that would require them to seek in-home care services. “Hardly anyone is ever prepared for this situation, but every one of us will encounter it at some point in our lives,” Brandt reminds. “Whether it be for our loved ones, or for ourselves, we will need this service at some point in our life. Choosing the right agency is a hard thing to do.”

When it’s time to decide on an agency, Brandt encourages asking questions. Are you looking for an agency that has paid 5-star reviews or spends the most on advertising? Do you choose the agency that has the highest rates? Do you go with a nationwide agency? Or do you go with an agency that has been local for 20-plus years, seen it all, and is still a leader in their industry despite the push from much larger agencies?

AAging Better has been servicing the Inland Northwest for 24 years, and they have seen it all: ID Medicaid budget cuts, the nationwide caregiver shortage, and the push of national agencies shutting down family-owned agencies. “We have seen it, and we have withstood it!” Brandt emphasizes. “Not only have we survived, but we became

the area’s largest family owned and operated in-home care agency throughout all of this. We became the largest by doing the right thing all the time — no matter the cost to us.”

AAging Better cares about their community, their clients, and their caregivers. The Weavers’ goal is to build relationships that will allow the aged community to stay at home, where they are comfortable, safe, and cared for. “The best outcome we can hope for is to give back to those who gave us a community in the first place,” Melissa explains.

For AAging Better, the intention is to help foster the best relationships possible — between those they serve and those who are passionate about caring for folks. “We strive to provide not just services but knowledge to our Veteran community and to empower them to count on the country they helped protect and serve; to have their back,” Brandt affirms. “Many of our Veterans do not know these services are available to them. We want to change that ... one caregiver at a time.”

AAging Better In-Home Care’s office staff is there to help 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Anytime you call, you will speak to them personally, not an answering service. As Melissa shares, “You were here for us; now let us be here for you.”

SANDPOINT’S BEST BAR

Where tradition, live music, and community come together

Since its opening in 1934, 219 Lounge has evolved alongside the Sandpoint community, maintaining its welcoming atmosphere while embracing change. The venue has continued to thrive, from starting as a beer parlor at the end of Prohibition to becoming a lively, modern venue offering live music, craft beers, and classic cocktails. As Mel, the owner, says, "The 219 has been an iconic mainstay of Sandpoint. It has stood strong for 87 years by adapting to the changes in Sandpoint and the bar scene."

A non-smoking bar known for exceptional cocktails and craft beer, 219 Lounge blends tradition with modern touches. Their old fashioneds, Manhattans, and margaritas, crafted with precision, are local favorites. Consistency is key, as every drink follows an exact recipe to ensure patrons enjoy the same great taste every time.

Its staff is truly what sets 219 Lounge apart. The bar is renowned for its ‘friendly and experienced team,’ many of whom have grown up in Sandpoint and are deeply connected to the community. “Our bartenders have been with us for years. They take great pride in working for the 219, serving their long-time customers, and getting to know new customers. Our customers are like family when they walk through our doors,” Mel says.

In 2017, the 219 was remodeled to reflect its 1937 origins while incorporating modern amenities, especially for live music lovers. A state-of-the-art sound system was installed, with speakers inside and out on the patio and sound panels to enhance the acoustics. A small, portable stage was added, and a sound tech collaborates with entertainers weekly to ensure an optimal experience. The live music scene has become a hallmark of the 219, drawing local and regional talent. Most shows are free, with a few special ticketed events held throughout the year.

At its core, 219 Lounge is about community. It has a neighborhood vibe where guests can visit with friends and meet new people. The comfortable, welcoming atmosphere makes it perfect for happy hour or special events, creating an ideal venue for any occasion. Mel smiles, "We take pride in being a place where everyone feels welcome and can come together to have an enjoyable and fun time with friends and family."

113 Main: Sandpoint’s Newest Culinary Gem

Exceptional dining, community values, and a taste of local excellence

In downtown Sandpoint, 113 Main has become a standout destination for those seeking exceptional dining with a local touch. Owned by Justin and Shaunavee Dick, the restaurant blends handcrafted menus, thoughtful ambiance, and a commitment to supporting the community. 113 Main follows the tradition of the Dicks' long-time Sandpoint dining establishment, Trinity at City Beach, continuing to elevate the local dining experience.

“We want to bring the best quality product with the best customer service and prices,” says Justin. “I’ve found that consistency across those three areas is key to maintaining the health of our business, retaining great employees, and having amazing patronage.” This focus on quality and consistency drives 113 Main’s success, reflecting the Dicks’ passion for creating memorable experiences.

Justin is a dedicated contributor to the Sandpoint community. He has served as President of the Bonner General Health Foundation and participated as a Sandpoint Rotarian for over 13 years. He’s supported local non-profits through efforts like Dine Out for a Cause, where proceeds benefit participating organizations. As a sponsor of the Sandpoint Rotary Club’s CHAFE 150 bicycle ride, he has provided meals to more than 500 cyclists and volunteers annually. “Giving back and participating is part of what makes Sandpoint such a special place,” Justin shares.

This community connection resonates with patrons. “Our customers feel comfortable spending their money with us, not just because we’ve created a great dining experience for them, but because they know we support this community,” Justin explains.

The restaurant’s seasonal menu highlights fresh, local ingredients. Hearty comfort dishes feature in colder months, while summer offers lighter fare. Locally sourced items, such as arugula and microgreens from Pack River Farms, enhance the menu.

113 Main is also celebrated for its full bar with handcrafted cocktails and unique whiskies. “We select fresh ingredients, high-quality alcohols, house-made mixers, and syrups, and precisely measure, stir, and garnish,” Justin notes. Rare and unique whiskeys elevate the bar experience, offering selections unavailable elsewhere in the region.

Its ambiance balances historical charm with modern touches. “For those who remember the original Café Trinity on 1st Street, we have much of the same vibe: intimate, historical, elegant, with a throwback to Sandpoint’s early days,” Justin describes. With its versatile setting, 113 Main is ideal for date nights, casual gatherings, and special celebrations.

Among the restaurant’s achievements, Justin is particularly proud of resuming seven-day lunch and dinner service. “After COVID, many restaurants, including my own, had to close a couple of days a week to deal with the lack of staff,” he says. “I have been fortunate to have an amazing staff that has been able to get us open full-time.”

Justin credits the community for the restaurant’s success. “Thank you to all of our customers and the community. The support we’ve received has been incredible. Opening a restaurant in a small town is challenging, but with the help of this community, we’ve created a dining experience everyone can enjoy.”

FROM MOBILE OVEN TO THRIVING RESTAURANTS: THE SUCCESS STORY OF

Versalia Pizza

CELEBRATING 15 YEARS OF SUCCESS, GROWTH AND COMMUNITY

What began as a mobile pizza oven has grown into two thriving brick-and-mortar restaurants. Laura and Seth Carey couldn’t be prouder of Versalia Pizza. Their gratitude runs deep for those who have supported their vision along the way.

Laura reflects on the early days and the decision to expand. “It wasn’t too long into our first season as a mobile food vendor when people started asking, ‘Where can we find you in the winter?’” she recalls. “We had customers who ordered several pizzas and froze them to savor during the ‘pizza drought’ while we were shut down over the winter.” Within a few years, after operating in the spring, summer, and fall, they were approached by Jim Frank, Greenstone’s owner, at the Liberty Lake Farmers Market. His suggestion to establish a brick-and-mortar location in Kendall Yards paved the way for their next chapter. In 2014, Versalia Pizza opened its doors year-round, much to the delight of its loyal customers.

This past summer marks two major milestones for the Careys: 15 years with their mobile pizza oven and 10 years at their Spokane Kendall Yards location in Washington. Seth and Laura attribute their ongoing success to a focus on relationships—both with customers and employees. “We have listened to our employees’ ideas, learned from them, and improved because of them,” Laura says. “We owe a lot of our success to employees who have come and gone, and shared a little piece of their wisdom with us along the way. That, and a lot of hard work and hard discussions.”

When asked what they are most proud of, the Careys point to the obstacles they’ve overcome in their 15 years of business. “We have dealt with all sorts of challenges along the way, from competitive vendors who could be heard saying, ‘I bet they don’t sell one slice of pizza’ at our first market, to weather, to heat stroke from doing too much next to the oven in the hot summer air,” Laura explains. “The highlights were always proving the naysayers wrong, as well as really getting to know the customers who would follow us from event to event, enjoying our delicious offerings, and now still frequent us at the restaurants.”

As they reflect on their journey, Seth and Laura are deeply thankful for their community’s support and the meaningful relationships they’ve formed. “From long-time customers to employees to friendships that have been born out of this business, it truly makes all of it worth it,” Laura smiles.

BUILDING COMMUNITY THROUGH FOOD:

Moon Time, The Porch Public House, The Elk Public House, Two Seven Public House, and El Que

John Grollmus and Brad Fosseen have been more than restaurateurs in the Inland Northwest. For nearly three decades, they’ve built a family. The two lifelong friends started with a dream to create a welcoming restaurant and have since expanded their original vision into a community-focused collection of dining spots: Moon Time in Coeur d’Alene, The Porch in Hayden Lake, and The Elk Public House, Two Seven Public House, and El Que in Spokane. Each location is a beloved staple, offering delicious food and a sense of belonging for patrons and employees.

John moved to Spokane in 1974, developing his skills in various restaurants before completing the hotel and restaurant management program at Washington State University. After gaining success in the corporate restaurant world across the West Coast, he returned to his roots, eager to create something unique in Coeur d’Alene. Brad, a Spokane native, has always appreciated the area’s natural beauty and community spirit. His hospitality skills developed through years in the industry, and he shared John’s vision of a restaurant with a warm, local feel.

Their first venture, Moon Time, opened in Coeur d’Alene in 1996, followed by The Elk Public House in Spokane’s South Hill in 1999. A few years later, they launched El Que in 2001, then expanded with The Porch in Hayden Lake in 2003. Their most recent addition, Two Seven Public House, opened in Spokane in 2008. From the beginning, their philosophy has been straightforward: serve high-quality, affordable food in a comfortable atmosphere while prioritizing employees and customers. This guiding principle defines their approach to business.

Their recipe for success goes beyond good food and ambiance—it’s the people who make it possible. With over 100 employees across their restaurants, Brad and John believe that consistency and employee care are the keys to a successful restaurant family. “Employee retention helps create a consistent environment,” John explains. “Seeing the same friendly faces and having a long-tenured kitchen staff ensures that guests always experience top-notch service and food.”

This employee-first approach is integral to their business. Brad and John provide competitive pay, health insurance, retirement plans, and paid

vacations to make restaurant work a long-term career path rather than just a temporary job. John shares, “It’s important to create stability so that our employees can achieve personal goals—whether buying a house, starting a family, or establishing roots in the community.”

Longtime employees like Chris Schultz, chef and general manager of Moon Time, and Kevin Russel, chef and manager at Two Seven, exemplify the strong bonds within their team. Chris, who has been with Brad and John since the beginning, remains a valued manager and friend. Kevin, who has worked with John since their days as cooks at Schweitzer Mountain, brings his passion and expertise to Two Seven while lending a hand at The Elk as needed. These relationships underscore the sense of family that permeates every level of the business.

Brad and John remain hands-on, regularly spending time in each restaurant to ensure high standards are met. This involvement has cultivated loyal

customer bases who appreciate the food and the personal, friendly service. “It’s incredibly fulfilling to meet people who are excited to tell us how much they love our restaurants and how personal they are to them. After all, we may have inadvertently created a corn pasta cult,” says John.

Beyond work, the duo enjoys and supports the beauty of the Inland Northwest. Brad loves boating and fishing on the area’s many lakes, while John is an avid skier and mountain biker. Their connection to the region runs deep, and they strive to keep their business intertwined with the community’s fabric.

With a focus on community, quality, and loyalty, John Grollmus and Brad Fosseen’s family of restaurants continues to be a cherished part of the Inland Northwest. Their dedication to employees and patrons alike has created more than popular dining spots; they’ve built a legacy of warmth, service, and hospitality that will continue for many years.

Award-Winning Wines

LATAH CREEK WINE CELLARS: WITH A FAMILY TOUCH

CELEBRATING 42 YEARS OF AFFORDABLE EXCELLENCE AND COMMUNITY COMMITMENT

For over four decades, Latah Creek Wine Cellars has been a cornerstone of Washington State’s wine industry, combining passion, affordability, and award-winning craftsmanship. Located in Spokane Valley, this family-owned winery is a testament to the enduring vision of founders Mike and Ellena Conway and their daughter, Natalie ConwayBarnes, who now leads as head winemaker. Together, they have fostered a legacy that balances innovation with tradition.

Latah Creek’s recent label redesign reflects this duality. According to Natalie, the refreshed look honors the winery’s roots while reinvigorating its presence. “We wanted to remind our community that Latah Creek is still around after 42 years, making award-winning, affordably priced wines. And what better way to do that than to make people do a double take when they see our logo on a bottle?” she explains. The updated labels retain the wildlife artwork of Floyd A. Broadbent, a defining feature since the winery’s inception. The new design, created by Laura from Terra Cotta Designs, incorporates Broadbent’s “Standing California Quail,” ensuring the winery’s heritage remains front and center.

Latah Creek’s N Collection is another standout, celebrating Natalie’s 20 years as a winemaker. This special edition reflects her deep connection to Washington’s diverse wine regions. “I aim

to highlight some of these wines by sourcing high-quality, bulk, finished wines,” Natalie shares. The collection currently features four unique releases:

• A sparkling wine

• A Rhone-style Syrah blend

• A Red Mountain Petit Verdot

• A Red Mountain/Horse Heaven Hills Bordeaux blend

Each represents Natalie’s dedication to creating exceptional wines accessible to all.

Awards have consistently validated Latah Creek’s commitment to quality. Among its recent accolades, the winery’s 2021 Tempranillo earned a Gold medal and 93 points at Sunset Magazine’s International Wine Competition, while its 2023 Riesling received a Double Gold and 95 points. Natalie views these honors as affirmations of their mission. “These wins give us the gumption to keep going! You don’t have to be large or charge double to make exceptional wine. It just takes commitment and passion,” she says.

Affordability is a cornerstone of Latah Creek’s philosophy, a value instilled by Mike and Ellena when they founded the winery. “They believe everyone deserves to enjoy delicious wine every single day, not just on special occasions,” Natalie emphasizes. While industry changes and market perceptions can pose challenges, the family remains steadfast in their dedication to crafting top-quality wines that won’t break the bank. “There are times when it would be easier to change this commitment, but we would lose a part of ourselves in the process,” Natalie explains.

Balancing growth with a personal touch is another key to Latah Creek’s success. Despite being one of Washington’s top 100 wineries, the Conways maintain a hands-on approach. Natalie and her father oversee all winemaking processes, a rarity in an industry often marked by large-scale operations. “I am proud to say that my dad and I are the only ones who do any winemaking work, so we can honestly say we intimately know everything done to our wines,” Natalie shares. This level of involvement extends to their tasting room, where visitors are warmly welcomed into what feels like the family’s home.

Reflecting on the winery’s journey, Natalie is proud to be part of Washington’s first father-daughter winemaking team. “I didn’t realize the significance behind our joint efforts,” she admits. “Most veteran winemakers would retire when they have someone to step into their role, but instead, my dad stayed. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

As Latah Creek Wine Cellars moves into its 43rd year, its dedication to quality, family, and community remains unwavering. Whether through its expertly crafted, awardwinning wines, innovative collections, or welcoming tasting room, the winery continues to prove that great wine can be both exceptional and accessible.

as the final pages of this issue close, we are left awestruck at our current situation—in which AI is no longer sci-fi but reality. From devices that fill in sentences to diagnostic software, AI has become the impatient intern of the modern age: it works gruelingly, learns quickly, and sometimes surprises us with its awe-inspiring powers.

But as we take on this wave of innovation, let’s remember that the real key to progress is not what we produce but how we use it. AI might be smart, but our humanity, our curiosity,

our ingenuity, and even our fallibility make it tick. So, let’s ride this acceleration rapturously, not using technology to replace connection but rather to boost it.

Let’s dream of a future that is intelligent, disruptive, and sparked by the beating heart of the human condition. Even the best algorithms, after all, cannot substitute for the spark of imagination that makes a dream come true.
