Mike Hammack, along with his sister-in-law PJ Hammack, own and operate Aqua Plumbing in Sandpoint. Their family has been in the plumbing business locally since the 1970s. Mike’s father owned and operated Will’s Plumbing in Sandpoint before he passed away in 1991. But that did not mean the end of the plumbing business for the Hammack family. “Mike’s brother, Jack, seamlessly took over and has continued his father’s success,” said PJ of Will’s Plumbing. “With Will’s Plumbing primarily working in new construction and turning away serviced based calls, it became obvious that there was a need for an additional service based plumbing business.” With that, Aqua Plumbing was born. With Mike’s experience as a journeyman plumber and PJ’s 20 plus years of running Will’s Plumbing with Jack, the decision to open a new business was an easy one for the family. “I had worked for my dad in the plumbing business when I was in high school,” said Mike about his start in the industry. SANDPOINT GRADUATE HIRED AS HEAD VOLLEYBALL COACH. BY PATTY HUTCHENS. WHEN IT WAS ANNOUNCED that Sandpoint native Erin Roos was hired as Sandpoint High School’s new head volleyball coach, the response was overwhelming.

“It’s been really amazing and wonderful,” said Roos of the support she has received. “Sandpoint is a fantastic, supportive community, who bends over backwards for their kids. I feel lucky and honored to be leading the next generation of volleyball players.” A 1993 graduate of Sandpoint High School, Erin Roos, formerly Erin McGovern, was a standout volleyball player for Sandpoint High School. Her senior year the SHS volleyball team finished second at State and Erin was named the Inland Empire League’s Most Valuable Player. She was also nominated that year for the Idaho Female Athlete of the Year. But that was just the beginning. Erin received a full ride scholarship to the University of Michigan where she was a four-year varsity letter winner. During her tenure the team finished as high as sixth in the Big Ten. She led her college team in aces per season in 1994 with 27 aces. She also earned the Coaches Award in 1996. Even now, Erin is listed as the top athlete from Idaho to play for the University of Michigan in any sport. An honor that speaks to her extraordinary athleticism.

So, I felt like it was time to come full circle and give back to the program that opened the doors to some incredible experiences in my life.” Erin has coached many teams since her years at the University of Michigan, including an adult volleyball club in Ann Arbor, University of Michigan volleyball camps, Sandpoint High School camps and club volleyball here in Sandpoint. When asked what her philosophy is when it comes to coaching, she replied, “I always believe in giving honest, positive feedback, communicating my expectations, and providing encouragement. I’ve been in athletics long enough to understand that no one wants to give you their best effort if you belittle them or play mind games,” said Erin. “My players need to understand that I believe in their ability, and that I can share with them tools to achieve personal and team success.”
