One horse, one rope, one skier… it’s skijoring and it’s back! Ski Joring made its debut in Sandpoint three years ago, combining two favorite action pastimes, skiing and horseback riding, Ski Joring is an actionpacked Scandinavian sport that involves horses and riders pulling skiers at high speeds around a course of jumps and gates. Did we just mix barrel racing with slalom ski racing? Ski Joring is an equally exciting spectator show for the entire family. Trinity at City Beach will be on hand serving food and drink. Tim and Annette Tillberg opened Pampurrred Pets in June 2003. Originally they were located in a 1200 square foot space of their current building; but when the Christmas Store closed, Tim and Annette made the leap of faith and moved into the current 4800 square foot spot in the front and purchased the building. “We blossomed after that,” said Annette, who admits to initially being concerned about filling the entire space with inventory but now says she wishes she had even more room. Pampurrred Pets enjoys providing many types of pets for a new family member: birds, reptiles, fish and small animals including mice, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters and bunnies. They have a donation box for the shelter as well as a donation jar to help with spay and Neuters. Annette and Tim are grateful to their staff, including store manager Courtney Randolph and employees Maureen Reeves, Koda Tillberg and CJ Dowling for making Pampurred Pets a place where customers truly feel the sense of family when they come in. Annette’s husband Tim works at his family’s business Crane Construction Northwest, and the couple has two daughters, KayLee, 10, and LeeAnn, 5, both of whom they adopted from China. “We are so blessed,” said Annette. The family of four enjoys gardening, sitting by the fire pit with family and friends, BBQing, swimming, hiking and of course our family pets. As for Annette, she admits that in the beginning she was a bit nervous about opening her own business but now, over ten years later, she could not be happier. “Animals have always been my passion.”

JOSH TRAVERS Senior Josh Travers has been involved in sports his whole life. “My parents were always encouraging me to become an athlete and signed me up for as many sports as possible,” said Josh. But he said it was not until high school that he truly began to excel. And that’s an understatement! As a participant on both the wrestling and football teams, Josh has made his presence known in the world of SHS athletics. In 2011 Josh was the 4A District Wrestling Champion; in 2012 he was the District runner up, and this year he said he is looking to regain his championship. As for football, Josh is a three-year varsity letterman as well as the winner of the 2013 Scholastic Award and the Offensive MVP – the first offensive lineman in Sandpoint history to become offensive MVP. And that is impressive due to the fact it was a position he did not play until this year. “I have played football for seven years, and in all those years I had a spot on the defensive side of the ball,” said Josh. “Going into my senior year at camp, I was taken off defense and placed at left tackle. It was very difficult to change positions after all the time I had spent on the other, but I didn’t really have a choice.” Although things were difficult, Josh said he felt good about the fact he could always rely on his coaching staff to help him overcome his offensive challenges. “Coach Crosby Tajan led me through the season and helped me to develop into the player I am today.” Josh said what he enjoys most about the sports he participates in is the competition. “I have always been a competitive soul. Whether it is who can run the fastest, hit the hardest, or block the best, I will always be out there trying as hard as I can,” said Josh.

Josh said he is grateful to Mike Givens and Jack Knaggs who started the Junior Tackle program when Josh was in sixth grade. “During that year all of my best friends came together to form a football team that would stick together throughout the years. We had all the stars of the 2013 varsity team. Carson Paull, Dean Knaggs, Cody Millard, and myself all started together and through our battles became the best of friends.” Next year Josh plans to attend either the University of Idaho or Washington State University and at 6’6” and 220 lbs. Josh hopes to play college football. “Being the size I am, I will most likely play as either a tight end or a defensive end.” He plans to eventually get his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and become a large animal veterinarian Josh said the one life lesson he has learned form his coaches is that there are no excuses in life. “No matter what happens, you need to know that you can’t blame others. You must take responsibility of your actions and your life,” said Josh.
