Most amateurs have a tendency to become fixated on the ball, instead of the target out in front of them. This leads to overthinking the motion as opposed to using your natural instincts.

Here is a great drill to do on the putting green to develop instinctual stroke. First find a short, straight putt. Have a coach or friend check to make sure you are aimed and aligned square to the center of the hole. Next, practice hitting putts while looking at the hole. By focusing on the target instead of the ball, you will begin using your natural instincts to make the stroke and be on your way to better golf.

Pend Oreille Veterinary Ser Serving the community for 50 years. By Joshua Nishimoto. A HONEYMOON THROUGH IDAHO and a drive across the Long Bridge into Sandpoint was all it took for Dr. and Mrs. Lewis to decide to start a veterinary practice in this community. After two years of planning and working with Newport, WA, veterinarian, Dr. Bill Morton, a local real estate agent offered to build a vet clinic on the Kootenai Cutoff Road. And now on June 22nd, the business the couple dreamed of, Pend Oreille Veterinary Service, will celebrate its 50th year anniversary. There are not a lot of businesses that have been around for 50 years with the same ownership, let alone employees who have been around for 17-25 years. There were two doctors and three employees in 1964, and now they have grown to employ six veterinarians and 44 employees. It is in their consistent footprint of customer service and employee relationships that have kept them in business for all these years. For 45 years Pend Oreille Veterinary Service provided both large and small animal medicine and surgery, but for the last five years they have focused exclusively on caring for small animals. “In medicine,” Dr. Lewis said, “when I started out everyone was a general practitioner. Now each one of our employees has a very strong specialty.” From dental work for cats to rebuilding animals’ knees and joints, complete ultrasound for diagnosis, to using stem cell research for treating arthritic dogs, the dedicated staff of general practitioners and specialists at Pend Oreille Veterinary Service is on the cutting edge of technology and advancement of animal care.

Although Pend Oreille Veterinary Service has become a staple in the Sandpoint community, their business has expanded to other areas. In 1971, POVS opened a satellite clinic in Oldtown, WA, that was later bought by one of the doctors. In 2010, POVS purchased a house in Bonners Ferry and developed a satellite campus to meet the demand for quality health animal care further north. For the benefit of its customers and employees, the business keeps itself fluid, mobile and improving. “People are taking care of their pets and they’re demanding more,” Dr. Lewis said. “And we’re keeping up with the cutting edge of that market.” To keep up with demand, Pend Oreille Veterinary Service is looking into a much needed new facility in order to continue to provide better customer service and maintain strong relationships in the community. SANDPOINT HIGH SCHOOL. BY PATTY HUTCHENS. SENIOR NOAH FAUDE HAS ALWAYS played sports. Whether it’s football, lacrosse, or golf Noah enjoys the competition and the adrenaline it gives him. It has also taught him lessons he can carry through his life. “One lesson I’ve learned from sports is how to create a strong mental block. What I mean by that is finding a way to forget bad plays, shots, mistakes instantly and move on,” said Noah. Noah is on the golf team and is playing tennis for the first time. “But my favorite ones to play are lacrosse and football,” said Noah who will graduate in June with an impressive 3.5 GPA. As for golf, Noah likes the individual nature of the game. “I like the fact that even though you’re on a team and you play with other players, it’s completely independent and you can just get into your own groove,” said Noah. In the fall Noah will attend Boise State University where he will pursue a degree in business and hopes to turn his love for football into a career.

I love it all.” has been his size. “I’ve always been one of the smallest kids out on the field or whatever the setting is and that has certainly given me my challenges,” he said. “I have overcome that by playing smarter than most of the other players.” Looking back on all the sports he has played throughout the years, Noah said one moment stands out among the rest. “During a lacrosse game I broke my foot mid game but continued to play on it and scored a goal,” recalls Noah. “Then after a little while the adrenaline wore off and I was in a lot of pain. But between the time I broke it and realized I broke it, it was cool to score a goal then realize you did it with a broken foot.” Favorite Food: “Definitely the bacon cheeseburger from the Hydra Steakhouse.” Favorite Teacher: “Mrs. Bocksch. She teaches Spanish and even though I was by far one of the worst students at Spanish, she was always encouraging and helped me whenever needed.
