You can even have your window coverings programmed to lower each afternoon when the sun is at its hottest time of the day so your house is nice and cool when you get home from work. Or you can have them programmed to open in the morning to wake you up (on your schedule instead of the 4am wake-up we get during the summer). Those of you with east facing bedrooms know what I am talking about.

If you want power and don’t want to have to change batteries once a year, have your architect design your home with power to the window locations that may be too tall for you to reach or all the windows that you may want to have window coverings hardwired.

Expect to purchase blinds approximately three to four weeks before you actually need them installed. The windows will need to be trimmed out prior to a final measure for ordering them.

Window coverings are very precise, so you should have a professional measure and install them.

Bottom line — if you are building, talk to your contractor about window coverings as part of your budget. Not only do they protect your interior finishes and provide privacy, they are something you will probably use on a daily basis. Window coverings truly are an investment that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Returning Bonners Ferry resident, Laura Rader, recently opened Healing The Sole, an alternative health clinic specializing in Footzonology and Holistic Kinesiology. One area in which Rader has seen tremendous success with footzones is the relief from headaches. “I love footzones because I’ve never met a headache that can survive one,” she said. She explains that a footzone allows the body to gain energy to be able to restore itself. “With Holistic Kinesiology, we can target a pain or stress and see where the blockage is that causes it. I then work to undo the blockage so that the body heals itself.”

Rader has had amazing success with not only structural issues, but also nutritional and emotional ones. “Almost everyone leaves feeling much better,” she said.

Sadie Nitcy Sandpoint High School As captain of this year’s tennis team, Sadie Nitcy looks back at her years of competition and is grateful for the experience. “The thing about tennis that I enjoy the most has been having Kent Anderson as my coach,” said Sadie.

“Having started playing for Kent in seventh grade and still being with him six years later, I feel lucky to have such a great coach with a consistent presence in my tennis career.”

Sadie shares that one of the biggest challenges she has faced has been learning how to simply play the game and not let the chatter from across the net get to her. But, she said, it has taught her patience. “While it can be easy for me to get in my own head and as a result have that affect my ability to play and to play well, I try to remember that it is just a match and that everything will be all right,” shared Sadie.

In the fall Sadie will attend the University of Idaho where she will study organizational science. Uncertain of a specific career, Sadie said she has a passion for service, organization and government. “I would like to somehow incorporate each of these to create my career.”

Talon Dewey Sandpoint High School Focus on the moment. That is one life lesson that has led 16-year-old Talon Dewey to success both in the classroom and on the baseball field.

“A good life lesson I have learned from baseball is not to revolve around a mistake that is made but to focus on what is happening at the very moment,” said Talon.

Academically Talon has received straight As —something he hopes will result in college scholarships. “Playing sports in college is a dream of mine,” said Talon of his future plans, which include possible careers in the medical or engineering fields; areas that interest him because they are hands-on.

Talon said one of the biggest challenges he has faced in baseball is putting too much thought into certain situations and becoming nervous.

Instead, he tries to focus on what the task at hand is at that very moment.

But nervous or not, Talon said he loves the adrenaline and anticipation that baseball provides. “I like the suspense as to whether or not a ball will be hit to you, then the rush and excitement of making the play.”
