Editorial

When we first started publishing LIKO-Stories, we made a simple promise – to share our journey with you regularly. I’m happy to say that we’ve kept that promise, and I’m even happier about what this latest issue represents: progress, collaboration, and inspiration from the work we do every day.

This edition includes some great stories that truly capture where we are as a company. For example, we’ve completed our largest green façade project ever. The new extension of the Aupark shopping center in Bratislava now hosts the largest green facade in Central and Eastern Europe. It’s a project that embodies everything we stand for at LIKO-S: sustainability, innovation, and the courage to venture into the uncharted.

I’m particularly pleased to see our LIKO-S Industry division featured in this issue, as their work often operates behind the scenes, less visible than some of our other ventures. Yet, there’s so much to highlight and celebrate. This team is on an impressive growth path, building on decades of expertise and the unmatched craftsmanship of our “stainless steel magicians.” With big ambitions for LIKO-S Industry, I’m confident this division will play an increasingly prominent role in our success story—and I look forward to sharing more about their achievements in the near future.

I’d like to highlight our new showrooms/offices in Prague and Budapest, which reflect much of what I believe in as a leader. In a project-driven business like ours, geographical growth demands branches outside the headquarters. However, ensuring that everyone feels aligned as one team is no small task. That’s why I always emphasize to our managers: focus on supporting our people at the branches first. One way we live by this philosophy is ensuring that our branch offices are not just on par but often better equipped than our HQ in Slavkov u Brna. Over the last few years, we’ve renovated our Bratislava branch, Bangalore is coming soon, and this year, we’ve finished completely new offices in Budapest and most recently in Prague.

Our Prague showroom, located on the top floor of the iconic Main Point Pankrác, is a striking example of how design and functionality can come together to create a truly inspirational space. Serving as both an office and a versatile showroom, it not only showcases our solutions but also provides a healthy and productive environment for our team.

MICRA II aluminum profiles, for example, have been creatively repurposed—not just as partitions but as a design highlight for the bar counter. Green walls bring a touch of nature, improving air quality and fostering a calming atmosphere for everyone who steps in. Flexible meeting spaces, divided by mobile partitions, are designed to seamlessly adapt to various needs, whether hosting partners or internal team events.

Our Budapest office, in contrast, takes a distinct approach. Located in an older building, it surprises everyone who enters with its dynamic and modern interior. Both spaces, though different in concept and execution, embody the versatility of LIKO-S products, proving how the same systems can adapt to unique visions while achieving a shared purpose: creating engaging and inspiring workplaces.

What stands out most is how these offices demonstrate that great design goes beyond aesthetics. It’s about creating environments where people feel connected, valued, and empowered to do their best work. For us, this commitment to supporting our branch teams is central to building a stronger, more united LIKO-S family.

I hope you’ll enjoy reading this magazine and that it gives you a sense of what we’re striving for as a company. Thank you for being part of our journey, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

United in one brand.

In the world of interior design, the name LIKO-S is synonymous with innovation and quality. Let’s draw inspiration from our recent projects in Austria and Hungary, where our commitment to excellence and creativity comes to life in every space we transform.

Prague LIKO-S Showroom

All products, one place.

In September, we proudly unveiled the very first LIKO-S Showroom in Prague. Situated on the top floor of the iconic Main Point Pankrác building, it also serves as the home of our Prague branch. We transformed the space to showcase our product portfolio and create an inviting and inspiring work environment for our team.

At the outset, the architects from Studio REAKTOR were given a challenging brief: to design a welcoming workspace that also fully demonstrated LIKO-S’ capabilities. With such an extensive product portfolio, the task was no small challenge. The brief defied uniformity and the minimalist trends often dominated modern office design.

“When we were tasked with designing new offices for LIKO-S, we knew this would be no ordinary project. Our aim was to create an inspiring and comfortable workplace while simultaneously crafting a modern showroom that proudly highlights LIKO-S products in the best possible way. The grand opening in September showed that our vision came to life –a space where offices seamlessly blend with a showroom, brimming with greenery and unexpected design elements,” explained the architects from Studio REAKTOR as they reflected on the collaboration.

Quick reservations can be easily processed via the touchscreen, which is integrated directly into the door for the first time ever.

Spaces for 20 or 200 people.

Maximum flexibility

Maximum flexibility is a defining feature of the space. Sometimes, we need a meeting room for six colleagues; at other times, we host training sessions for 50 participants; occasionally, we need a venue for up to 150 guests for larger events. Our Prague branch handles all of these needs effortlessly.

The meeting room is separated from the lobby by a movable LIKO-Space partition, which can be reconfigured within minutes to create one large open area. This flexibility was put to excellent use during the grand opening, when we hosted over 100 guests.

Greenery at every turn.

Green walls do more than enhance the aesthetics – they also significantly improve air quality. “Greenery is present in every corner, infusing the space with freshness and tranquility. The new offices at Main Point Pankrác inspire productivity and new ways of thinking about architecture and products. This project wasn’t just about designing offices – it was about creating a connection with the environment and showing how technology and nature can coexist in harmony,” added the architects from Studio REAKTOR.

Crafted to highlight the full spectrum.

At the end of October, our Hungarian branch in Budapest opened its newly renovated premises with a warm gathering for clients, showcasing an innovative space crafted to highlight the full spectrum of LIKO-S products and systems.

The design concept of the newly renovated office spaces at the Hungarian branch is dedicated to presenting LIKO-S products and interior systems in the most attractive way possible. “The main and defining visual element is the division of the interior into two equal halves: a dark section designed in industrial style and a light section in a clean, minimalist design. This allows clients to see and experience how different interior systems function in various contexts,” Radek Mašinda, DiS., explained one of the project’s main goals from the U1 Interiors studio.

Where features come alive.

Key features include the rounded, elegant corners of the LESA wooden partitions and the sleek RAVA partitions with concealed supports. These elements, reminiscent of the modular LIKO-S OASIS meeting room, add both dynamism and cohesion to the interior. The partitions in the dark section are fitted with smoked glass, while those in the light area feature clear glass with digital blinds, offering a distinct style choice in each space.

Acoustic optimization is achieved with SilentPET panels. In the bright zone, horizontal gray panels are mounted under the white acoustic ceiling, while in the dark section, vertical panels blend with the open black ceiling, ensuring an ideal sound environment. Greenery also plays a central role in the design, with a live PlantBox green wall, a mobile green wall Flourish, and individual plants contributing to a pleasant ambiance and improved air quality.

A movable LIKO-Space sliding wall divides the open space from the meeting room, offering flexibility for gatherings. The woodveneered modules blend with other wooden elements, creating a natural feel throughout. Interactive presentations come alive on our SMART-i-WALL partition, while the Silen Space mobile booth provides an acoustic oasis for calls or focused work.

Our newly designed Budapest office not only reflects LIKO-S’ high standards but also stands as a showcase of functionality, modern aesthetics, and natural comfort, allowing clients to experience our innovations in a uniquely immersive environment.

The rise of LIKO-S Austria.

We have opened our first showroom in Austria, located in the heart of Vienna. This marks a significant achievement in our journey and highlights our dedication to bringing innovative solutions closer to our clients.

The Austrian branch of LIKO-S recently celebrated its second anniversary. Over the past two years, we have successfully established ourselves in the local market, completing numerous projects and earning the trust of our clients. The new showroom represents a key development in our ongoing growth.

One of the main attractions is our exclusive LIKO-S OASIS meeting room, a recipient of the prestigious RED DOT award. The LIKO-S OASIS offers a modern and stylish environment for business meetings, showcasing our unique ability to combine aesthetics with functionality.

At the Austrian LIKO-S offices’ new address, you can also see a green wall made from the PlantBox system, the mobile Flourish, and various glass partition systems samples.

LIKO-S OASIS: A star in Vienna

Our company proudly participated in the prestigious “Office of the Year” (OOTY) event in Vienna, an annual gathering of leading experts in office solutions, architects, and innovators shaping the future of workplace design. This year, we made a memorable impression with our modular meeting room, LIKO-S OASIS, which stood out as one of the event’s shining highlights.

A key moment of the event, organized by CBRE, was an inspiring lecture by renowned trend researcher Oona Horx Strathern on the “Kindness Economy.” Her thought-provoking insights on how kindness and empathy influence not only corporate culture but also the broader economy sparked vibrant discussions among attendees, offering fresh ideas on integrating these values into modern office design.

Beyond presenting our innovative solutions, we brought an element of fun with a quiz. The grand prize was a voucher for a PlantBox living wall, and the second prize was a unique Plosta Bag, crafted from recycled stretch film used in our production. This original creation, designed by a Mendel University student, earned special recognition in the Reborn Design project, adding a touch of sustainability and creativity to the event.

In the name of circular design.

The new eye clinic in Wiener Neustadt shows how functional design can work with natural materials. Glass partitions from the LESA range, with veneered profiles and clay panels, fit naturally into the overall design, creating a healthy and calming environment.

Functional design with natural materials.

The clinic moved from an older location to a multifunctional center near the train station to better meet patient needs. The layout allows smooth movement from the reception to waiting rooms, doctors’ offices, and examination rooms.

The rooms are divided by LESA glass partitions with veneered profiles. Wooden veneered doors add to the natural look. In smaller rooms, walls do not reach the ceiling, removing the need for a top door frame and creating a clean vertical line. The Omega framed glass partition was used to meet hygiene standards in the operating room.

Around the glass façade, there are staff corridors and a meeting room filled with indoor plants. These green spaces offer patients a relaxing view.

“The clinic’s furniture and equipment adhere to a sustainable, circular design philosophy, which is a hallmark of our studio. We blend new and refurbished elements, repurposing older office furniture to high standards and enhancing it with wooden details from sustainable sources. This approach creates an aesthetic that balances comfort with environmental mindfulness,” explained Dvorak and Zankel, designers from the Austrian architecture, design, and research studio joyjoy, known for creating joyful and friendly environments with a strong focus on sustainability and circular design.

A mix of old and new.

Half of the clinic’s furniture is made from existing pieces that were updated for modern use.

Old office cabinets were refurbished with wooden surfaces, handles made from leftover wood, and a new foil covering. The foil was crumpled by hand and pressed to hide imperfections. Old chairs were also updated with fresh, modern finishes. This mix of old and new gives the furniture a fresh look.

This clinic is a great example of how circular design can improve interiors, creating high-quality spaces that benefit both patients and staff.

Largest green facade in Central Europe

Record-breaking green facade.

The new extension of the Aupark shopping center in Bratislava is now home to the largest green facade in Central Europe. Stretching across nearly 690 square meters, this living wall rises 18 meters high and extends an impressive 130 meters in length.

The facade is built using the Biotile hydroponic system, composed of modular cassettes filled with a specialized mineral wool. This material ensures even water distribution and minimizes the need for frequent plant replacement.

“Our system is among the most advanced in the world, allowing plants to thrive even in challenging urban environments,” said Jan Musil, CEO of LIKO-S.

The plants are irrigated using a drip system connected to an automated control unit, which adjusts watering cycles according to the seasons and can adapt to extreme weather conditions.

42, 000 Over plants

From seedlings to a living wall.

Every one of the 40,000 plants on this facade has its own journey. The process begins with pre-growing the plants in a specially designed greenhouse.

“The perennials are planted in Biotile cassettes and spend about three months in the greenhouse before being installed on the facade. This allows them to gain strength and adapt to vertical growth, ensuring they are more resilient when moved to the construction site, significantly reducing the risk of plant loss,” explains Roman Macko, Business Development Director at LIKO-S.

The plants were carefully selected for their ability to endure temperature swings from -20°C to +40°C, guaranteeing the facade’s year-round functionality and durability. One of the standout benefits of the green facade is its ability to cool its surroundings through natural water evaporation.

This effect is especially noticeable during the hot summer months when a hydroponic vegetative facade of this size can deliver a cooling output equivalent to about 70 air conditioning units—without consuming electricity or venting hot air from the building.

From the very beginning.

The project was designed by the renowned architectural office jaar, led by architect Juraj Jančina. The Aupark extension was designed as an energy-efficient structure, with the facade mounted on a framework made from repurposed materials from the original building, enhancing its eco-friendly credentials. This green facade brings a fresh, vibrant touch to the urban landscape, helping to cool the surrounding area and improve the local microclimate.

Where did the green facade concept, the centerpiece of Aupark’s new extension, originate?

From the outset, we envisioned the Aupark extension as a continuation of the story of the original building. At jaar studio, which designed the original Aupark, we have been part of this building’s journey from the very beginning. A central idea behind the project was to connect and integrate Sad Janka Kráľa, the largest and oldest public park, with the building itself. This connection is even reflected in the name „Aupark,“ which we originally proposed based on the historical name of the park. The extension allows the park to grow into and through the building, making Aupark an organic part of the green landscape.

Architects often face challenges convincing investors about the value of green facades. Was this also the case here? How did you approach the investor?

Project concept
Real building

Yes, convincing the investor took more work. The inclusion of greenery was questioned early on, but we stayed persistent, striving to demonstrate the long-term benefits of a green facade for Aupark. Initially, the design included additional ecological and energy-efficient features, such as photovoltaic panels, Trombe wall principles, and energy production and storage systems in the foundations and ground reservoirs. Unfortunately, these concepts didn’t make it to the final phase. However, through innovative design, we managed to lower the building’s carbon footprint and energy demands while enhancing the local environment and biodiversity. Working with Wood & Company, a firm with sustainability embedded in its strategy, helped us successfully incorporate the green facade.

What was the architectural vision for the facade? Why did you choose a mix of glass and greenery?

The goal was to create a facade that seamlessly blended with the existing architecture. Reusing the original glass facade wasn’t just an environmentally conscious decision – it was a deliberate design choice. This approach significantly reduced the new construction’s carbon footprint. The greenery-covered facade creates a connection between the park and Aupark, giving the impression that the park has grown through the building and onto its exterior. Visitors are greeted by lush greenery, perceiving Aupark as the gateway to Sad Janka Kráľa.

entered a competition to design the facade, which we won. By early 2024, we finalized the realization documentation (RP). The facade’s design involved about ten people from the jaar studio team, including Juraj Jančina, Igor Wawrek, and Michal Jančina. Igor Wawrek also coordinated the project throughout the construction phase. Of course, this achievement would not have been possible without close collaboration with subcontractors and construction suppliers.

Will greenery also feature in the interior of the new shopping center extension? If so, how?

Fortunately, greenery is already integral to Aupark’s interior, particularly in the entrance atrium, so we didn’t need significant changes. However, we are working on additional concepts to bring greenery into the interior. While still in the conceptual phase, we hope these ideas will resonate with the investor, enabling us further to enhance the center’s appeal with even more greenery.

Project concept
Real building

“Working under pressure taught us valuable lessons—refining our processes, embracing new technical approaches, and thriving in extreme conditions, like installing the facade in 40°C summer heat. This green facade, powered by the Biotile system, is now showcasing how sustainability can transform architecture in Central Europe.

I’m deeply grateful to everyone involved in this milestone project, from our skilled installation teams to the greenhouse team, who ensured every plant was nurtured to perfection. Together, we’ve created something that cools the city, delights its visitors, and sets a new standard for urban design.

May Aupark continue to inspire and bring joy!“

Ko au ko te taiao, ko te taiao ko au.

I am the environment and the environment is me. These words resonated deeply at the World Green Infrastructure Congress 2024, held this year in New Zealand. The congress, a key global event, brought together professionals, companies, and institutions committed to advancing green infrastructure.

Among the voices contributing to this important dialogue was Jan Musil, CEO of LIKO-S, joined by Jakub Vítek, the supervisor of the Living Buildings division.

Jan Musil’s presentation centered on the LIKO-Vo Industrial Hall, a pioneering project developed over three years with support from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TAČR). This facility demonstrates how industrial buildings can collaborate with nature rather than disrupt it.

Sustainable industrial development.

LIKO-Vo exemplifies sustainable industrial development by being equipped with green facades, a vertical root zone wastewater treatment system, and a green roof. It proves that industrial spaces can actively contribute to cooling urban heat islands, supporting biodiversity, and integrating with natural systems.

The Congress in Auckland attracted a diverse audience of scientists, innovators, and professionals united by a vision of greener, more sustainable urban spaces.

“The scale of progress worldwide is inspiring. It’s clear that we’re part of a global movement shaping the future of our cities and buildings,” said Musil. “The Congress was a reminder that while the challenges are great, collaboration and innovation can create meaningful solutions.”

„Ko au ko te taiao, ko te taiao ko au – I am the environment, and the environment is me.“

As a family business from the Czech Republic, LIKO-S is proud to contribute to these global conversations, showcasing how even industrial developments can harmonize with nature. The company’s presence at the World Green Infrastructure Congress reaffirmed its commitment to advancing solutions that benefit both people and the planet.

Thickness and type of laminated glass

Thicker laminated glass with an acoustic film significantly boosts sound insulation. Lamination absorbs and dampens sound waves, achieving exceptional sound insulation.

Distance between glass

Optimizing the gap between two glass panes in double glazing achieves significant sound attenuation. A greater distance reduces the transmission of sound.

Integrated absorber and sealing

The innovative discontinuos profile minimizes sound bridges, which would otherwise allow sound transmission through the partition frame.
