For ventilation, the south was fully opened to allow full entry during the summer while in winter the house has an elliptical shape that serves as shelter to the north, by totally diverting the cold air.

40m2 Sustainable House The project involves the design of a house of 40m2 with a central structure. Is planned as a retirement home in the mountains with a panoramic view to the south. The main focus is sustainability, using passive and active techniques for saving and creating energy, the use of the metal roof to reflect solar incidence and prevents unwanted heat gain.

Floor Plan Centralized Structure and Installations. It involves less installations and a double feature structure, as well as savings in m2.

Use of Deciduous Trees.

Positioned on the east and west of the building to block the sun during the hot season and in turn allow the entry of these in the winter

Rainwater harvesting. Used for the users needs and thermal barrier for the house. Winter

Supply the power required for the house also acting as louvers that block the sun. Summer

Celosia Wood / Translucent glass / transparent glass.

Design to focus the view of the South, and to create a luminic blur effect towards the inside, creating high contrasts of natural light.

Structure prolongation and use of louvers.

Four of the ribs supporting the roof are extended to wrap the semiopen space. Meanwhile, calculated louvers are used to allow entry of the sun in cold seasons.

Flood Shelter Design for Tabasco This project is a proposed solution for users who are affected by flooding and can not be rescued immediately by the inaccessibility that creates the disaster. It is a refuge, easy to transport, assemble, inexpensive and comfortable. The materials used are: a bamboo structure (lightweight, durable and renewable), and sheets of PVC (low cost, does not allow the formation of fungus and is suitable against water).

The modules can be used individually to the rescue and retention of those affected, however, is also planned as a whole in which platforms can tie together and create a common area for bathing, cooking and nursing, in addition to providing greater stability to the shelter, protecting streams and building a community of support among those affected.


Daily

Roof extension provides protection against direct sunlight, and the rolling mosquito net provides total protection of bugs and dirt from the outside.

The roof can be folded according to the angle ot the precipitation, as well as providing for privacy and control airflow.

During a Huracaine

The ventilation is given through the holes in the pvc and the bamboo acts like a chimney to maintain pressure difference of air flow.

Stretch mesh.

Provides a comfortable place where people can sleep, sit or stand comfortably, and a separation of the moisture that can create the PVC.

Storage space.

Space for food, drink, clothing and user articles.

Floating space.

Keeps rods at low temperature to ensure the condensation of air, in order to remove extra moisture and create a confortable temperature and relative humidity.

Metal rods.

With a spiral finish, to ensure the condensed water runs directly to the storing space.

Water storage.

Gives users clean water for their comfort and survival during the disaster.

Awarded to create the contrast between the weight of users and the density of water.

Permanent anti-flood housing for Tabasco Proposal for a permanent solution to the continuous flooding in Tabasco by recycling the shelters used during the disaster. The project uses the same temporary shelter materials, continuing with the modules on the proposed spaces. The constructions arise over 6 Franky piles of concrete, 9 feet planted “in-situ� which serve as an anchor for the home letting it slide through the piles and float according to the water height during floods.

Recycled modules.

The house consists of 18 recycled modules of the temporary shelters.

Laminated floor.

Gives more warmth to the interior space without adding much cost to construction.

Floating Space and Installations.

Is the space that keeps the air required for the water line of the house. This is used at the same time to pass all the required facilities during construction.

Construction process - concrete piles, bamboo, PVC sheets, rods and mosquito nets.


West Facade.

The house is 3m above the ground as protection from the continuous flooding , it also allows the use of the area below as a semi-open space and garden for users. It has low openings to ensure cross ventilation with the roof preimetral window.

Norht Facade.

The building itself frames the main entrance of the house through a U-shape, which at the same time during the flood works as a parking space for the canoe or boat that may be required.

South Facade

It is the tallest facade given by tilting the roof to avoid the rain water to accumulate. It also has a larger sealing to block the unwanted heat rays.

High spaces.

For the existing hot weather at the site, high spaces are used so that the heat is concentrated at a height greater than 2 meters to ensure greater user comfort.

The walls consist of two sheets of PVC with a spacing of 10cm between each other which creates a thermal break and serves for the passage of the indoor facilities.

The project was an exploration work consisting of an intersection of triangles, which by cutting and extruding are taking shape, function and sense towards a goal, so that after materials and textures, lights and shadows, color and scale can be added to create experiences through space.

Solar Multi-family Housing

Multifamily housing project with diferent square meters proposals to meet the needs of various users of the area. The definition of the volume comes from a site study, in response to the high solar incidence existing in the metropolitan area of Monterrey, and to provide comfort and energy savings to the users of the site.

Solar Analysis.

The hottest time in Monterrey is starting from 1 April to September 17, so the direct impact during these dates will have to be omitted.

Vertical Volumetric Definition.

The entire south faรงade of the project has an inclination of 72 degrees which blocks solar radiation during the non desired times.

Floor Plan Definition.

To define each of the floor plans a grid of 2 by 2 meters was created from north to south and east to west, which allows the use of space and order in the field. Then, the grid began to create strokes required to respect the tucking subsequently for each of the floors.

The terrain is an irregular triangular prism surrounded by three streets leading to one of the most important roads of Vista Hermosa


Circulation

The corridors along which users arrive are made up of two perpendicular axes that intersect the volume, creating 3 major divisions, which in turn serve to create the various departments. The facilities are connected to each department by 3 main installation cubes across the building and connect directly to the halls for any required maintenance.

Ventilation. Corridors were planned so as to be properly ventilated, saving energy and comfort them, plus each has a visual shot at the end to create a more comfortable transition.

Golden Ratio Interior Focused Residence House planned for the vast diversity of currently existing customers, it has the ability to transform into different distributions from a single room to 4 of them. It also provides harmony by having a patio that serves as an intermediary between exterior and interior of the home, allowing total privacy to the user.

Besides allowing the connection of all spaces with nature, the hallway helps the ventilation of each of the spaces.

Exterior-interior Integration.

The north side opens completely to the private area of garden and pool of the house, allowing the option of the full opening of the windows and making one whole space.

Transformable kitchen.

It was planned following the perimeter of the room as a way of leaving more free space. It has a dinette table that fully embodies the wall, as a way to define the kitchen space or leave it completely free.

Allows the privacy of the study and in turn creates an interesting lighting effect for the same place. Moreover continues the idea of visual connection with nature, as a dual-use item.

Simbiosis: Rescue of the Quarries in Monterrey 8th Young Architects competition. It consists on the rescue of the Mountain site in Monterrey, damaged by the constant exploitation of limestone, leaving a rocky and uneven terrain that breaks the linear continuity of the ridge. The program required was a mixed-use project that would operate the site as a whole both in use, and visually.

The Site.

This is an area that has suffered enormous devastation and exploitation for the use of raw material, limestone. For years the stone has been extracted from this place by means of dynamite, leaving as a result extremely rugged terrain and lack of vegetation.

Devastated Area.

The site has an area completely devastated by the exploitation of the land, but there are also areas where the natural vegetation of the mountain, it’s preserved intact.


Modulation and Relationship Diagram. Through accounting modules and required square meters, they began to mix uses amediante distitntos relations analysis done previously, but this time adapting to the topography of the land and serving the purpose of restoring the mountain through the proposed architecture . In this case the architecture not only respects the environment and conforms to it but penetrates and restores their parts visually affected by the same man.

Vegetation and Landscape.

A mixed vegetation between the existing and natural essence of the mountain was planned. The vegetation is proposed for stony and not very permeable site.

Mainly directed to the welfare of the user, by removing the car interaction with the interior, leaving direct lines for such carriage, creating complete pedestrian connectivity. Transition spaces longer than 350 meters apart were avoided, providing easy and accessible pedestrian connection. For areas that are further away, an internal light rail system was proposed, in order to create a more efficient mobility, shorter and sustainable. The buildings are accessible by elevators located in the main structures.

Gabions in Facade

They allow to create a double facade and a greater comfort through the air through air circulation and insulation for better heat control. It also provides continuity to the foot of the mountain simulating existing vegetation in place. The use of gabions create a series of transparencies to the interior, allowing users to play with them depending on the activities that are required, giving different sensations to the spaces.

Structure.

A system of minimal impact to the mountain, was proposed, that also allows the coexistence sought between architecture and site. The system is composed of frames, which allow freedom of movement in the modules and also preserves the nature of the mountain, regenerating the continuity of it and preserving its history inside. Ventilation In addition to separating the buildings of the mountain to follow no damaging, it also prevents the greenhouse effect and allow a continuous cross ventilation to each of the elements of construction.

Material selection.

The materials were designed to be ecological, economic, and to take advantage of natural terrain features. The gabion is a stone-based material of the place that is done to blend in with the mountain. Recycled steel provides a lower cost in building the set and save energy in their production. The duo vent glass gives greater interior comfort as it reduces UV rays. The green facade is achieved through the use of gabions as it proposes to place planters to refresh and purify the air. It is mainly used in corridors for natural ventilation. The recycled concrete is made by waste which reduces the cost of production. Its main use is for building system-based frameworks

Design of the Apostleship of the Cross Spirituality Center. A place for meetings with yourself and sensory architecture that allows a spiritual connection through the relationship between nature, architecture and silence, which are essential needs for this project.

Location and Project Justification.

There are 74,612,373 Catholics in the country, of which 12.000 are members of the Apostleship of the Cross congregation, with 4.000 specific New León1s followers, being the State with the largest number of followers. But they do not have a suitable site close enough to carry out the congregations, which dictates the necessity of the center of spirituality.

It’s an irregular polygon of 11 hectares, a slope of 1% and 581 Nogales that make the essence of the place.

Users, activities and noise level analysis.

The table is a way to organize and synthesize the analysis program with one of the most important requirements, silence. It includes the square meters required, as well as spaces for each activity and the type of user or group for each one, these gives us a first arrangement proposal of the groups and the meters of construction required in totallity.

Location pattern. The meditation activity was located in the most silent spot, then the site was divided with two perpendicular axes that followed the walnut grid creating four major sections, where they placed the required groups, depending on the distance to the proposed access. 12m

This is one of the most special needs to carry out the main activity... meditate, so by the theory of noise reduction, the quieter spot of the site was located in order to achieve the best atmosphere for the activity to take place.

The grid of Walnuts create spaces and delimited by the geometry of the tree, through its analysis found that in a second level without affecting the natural environment the building can not exceed 6m in width.


Assembly plan.

The groups are arranged around the main area that they all share... the meditation center. Creating a hierarchy from a centroid that defines the complete set.

Zoning

To locate the activities of each group, it was taken into account the sound produced by each of them and the required silence need, subsequently each item was placed with its area required and the specific width of 6m, each activity was placed in the ring the noise level required and a sufficient distance in order to not disturb the meditation.

Orthogonal Spaces.

A way to create a total spiritual focus without distraction for the user, all spaces respect the simplicity of the rectangle, and the golden proportion, in order to provide peaceful spaces.

Courtyards. The radial arrangement of the elements in the plane help to create levels of hierarchy wraped around the courtyards. Each court has different hierarchy of silence, spirituality and privacy. Starting from the patio that surrounds the center of meditation, followed by semiprivate patios that separate the main corridor of each group and finally the interior courtyard of each section where you can perform the activities of each group without disturbing the peace and quiet of others. The yards do not create a physical barrier but a psychological division of space created by the elevated buildings.


Rhythm & Perspective.

The most striking features of the land is the rhythm created by the walnut; therefore it was decided to raise the volumes given to respect the pace and do not create much impact on the site.

One of the needs of a spiritual center is the period of meditation, which can be given as part of a set schedule or time off for each user, so spaces of contemplation were set out in which users could have privacy and natural connection required.

Strict Activity Program.

Users at the center have a specific schedule established for each activity. So every site proposed sensory plannification to create different sensations at the time when it should be used, the requirements of light, silence and comfort were designed according to each activity. The whole group is planned as a narrow path in which the connections are giving different perspectives of the walnuts, leading the user to establish a special connection with them.

A path is a path, a pedestrian route within which to experience different feelings, places, situations and events. The key trough this journey is the movement and access, where people interact with emotions, time and space, it’s about transition and fluidity. That is why they are one of the main factors of the project, with the aim to relate the user in different ways with the natural environment, to prepare them and sensitize them towards introspection and meditation.

The project becomes part of the mountain by following its form. It acts as a retreat but at the same time it becomes the promenage to the fishing adventure down the valley. Each room escalates down as the promenage continues, while giving them the privacy required for each member of the group.
