3D printing technology has huge influences on architecture, not only because it could help making complex form and space, but also it opens possibilities of supporting architecrure in terms of its economic aspects. This work seeks to envision the possibilities of the sectional construction method supported by 3D printing technology and invented in order to embrace the flexibility of the new industry in San Francisco Bay.

Also through this construction method, the section(interior space) becomes the facade. It brings the inner complexity to an outter complexity. Thus the exterior space of a building gets a special space experience that has some character of interior space. NEOINDIGENOUS Neoindigenous is a series exploration of digital fabrication method through three aspects: software, fabrication and material. The explorations emerged through a series of three interconnected assignments that led up to the development of a proto-architectural assembly and building enclosure system exploring two different paradigms: mass production and mass customization. This digital materiality process contributed to the idea of sectional construction method.I developed a collection of proto-architectural speculations that had been tested into different scales. The form was evolving through the feedback and interaction between computational process(different kinds of softwares) and manufacturing process(crafting, mass production and mass-customization). The opportunities and limitations of different materials and tectonics that are employed to realize the digital models affects the computational designs in turn. The function of render boolean in modo helped me expose the section of models. The pattern and direction of materials which can be visualized and designed through 123D Make and Rhino CAM added another dimension of the design.Through the process of stacking laser cut components exported by 123D Make, one can also witness the evolving sections of the models.Cutting slip cast clay model also gave many new spatial possibilities.

Left: customized aggregation system using slip-cast ceramics with a tectonic system using off the-shelf materials. The limitations pertained to the ability to only consider a single form, mass produced for the production of an aggregation and an assembly system based only on stock materials. Below: a highly customized system that utilizes rapid manufacturing methods.
From an artifact that utilizes rapid prototyping methods to its multipal architectural applications This page shows the potential of the aggregated form being adjusted to a theater space.

LEANING TOWER
Bayonne is a city located in France and adjacent to Spain which is cutted by a river. For the past years, Bayonne has developed well on the south site of the river, but now it is needed to develop the district on the north bank of the river. Trainstation will be built on the north bank. For the new development, we should think out a new plan. To urbanize this area, we need more civilian facilities on both sides. However, separated buildings on both sides may cause the unbalanced development thus hindering the development of the city.So a bridge for pedestrain and biker is urgently needed.But the bridge is long to some extent.Usually this length can only be used as a passage rather than a place for people to spend their leisure time at.And this may prevent people from walking through especially for leisure time. In order to urbanize this area and maximize the bridge as a lively communication place including increasing the frequency of walkings on the river, we can push the buildings on both sides and build a short bridge between them. Checking over the initial purpose and studies, this proposal matches them pertinently. Study of the buildings on the banks People living on one side tend to approaching in that buildings on their own side. And they go there naturally without a sense of boundary. While it is difficult for them to go to the buildings on the other side emotionally. After all there is a long bridge to go across. Moreover, the buildings on each side of a river are very different both inside and outside. Different activities are happening in them. There is little connection between them. We want more communication between both sides and minimize the sense of boundary .

Public space including the crossing ramps are mainly arranged between the two middle beams in order that housing units could get enough daylight. And in order to prevent the public space being so closed, some public blocks need to be put among those housing units so that the public could penatrate through the private leading towards a city view. To make full use of the voids of the main beam, stairs and corridor or washroom and closet are arranged in it.

LONGJIANGJIE SUBWAY STATION REDEVELOPMENT
With the completion of the subway project of Harbin, many subway nodes will be set up along the line. Longjiangjie block is in their plan. The government wants a proposal for the renewal of the block and a civic center to meet its new status for the city.The Longjiangjie possesses enormous potential and vitality for its location and historical religious relics.The block, born along with the Harbin city, has gone through a series of changes due to social changes. And its architectural development has also experienced several different stages.The current area possesses high heterogeneousness and remarkable vitality. I want to maintain this heterogeneous ensemble by making the houses vary in facade material and letting the whole area go through the functional changes gradually. With my proposal, all the buildings are arranged on a shared plaza. It has no steps and is covered with the same style of tessellas, thus enhancing integraty. The ground tiles vary in directions, forming different fields of activities, such as private gardens, open-air stage, pedestrian corridors, meeting points, etc.Underground parking provides for necessary parking space.Retail shops are on the first floor, transformed from original residential buildings.

My concept is stretching the small formats into the large spaces. With the help of proper management, functional related programs are put together. They can see each other through the perforated wall. Through this way could the problem listed above be resolved.Through my observation on the small formats in our lives, the need of sunlight is not that much. Many of them locate in a large building with no outer wall. Moreover, with the employment of new reflecting material, the small format can get daylight indirectly. And the use of ventilation system could ensure a sufficiency of air movement in all conditions of weather and climate.

The programs of Harbin civic center consist of several public halls for social activities, which vary from dining halls to reading rooms, and a series of small workshops for renting ,which may for sculpturers, designers, photographers, dentists, beauticians, massagists, novelists, etc. I think about the programmatic strategy of it. At first, because of the technical limitation, people tend to put the small formats together. However, this may be programmatically problematic. In terms of usage, small formats may have little relations with each other. Instead, certain small formats may be closely related to certain large spaces. For example, workshop for designer or photograher has more to do with the gallery. We will find ourselves spending a long time figuring out where workshop we need is, traveling a long distance between the two spaces, or confusing in a long dull corridor.

SONGHUA RIVER MUSEUM
This project is sited in a park by the river. On one hand, they are the tourist destination for the city. On the other hand, they serve the people living in the Jiangbei new district as a necessary public facility for community. In order to attract as many people as possible to visit the place, as well as to maximize the urban space on the ground where visitors can step freely and enjoy the native environment. I want to make an interesting square fabricated with different natural ground covers in the site. People with different intents can step freely on it enjoying the natural environment. And in order to prevent the view from the road to the river from being blocked, program must be put either above the ground or under the ground. FORM PROCESS
