L i l y Tra n Hello! I am a third year student studying at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture. I am interested by the affect that a space can have on one’s actions and mind - how tangible architectural manipulations can create or frame vicacious moments, thoughts, stories.

Cynthia Tran's model making abilities were best demonstrated during our new
projects . She finished a lot the works which
greatly satisfied Takeshi, who was her boss.
Through her knowledge and understanding of the production process paired with her computer software skills (3D modelling), she managed to work with the team to produce some high quality materials. It was these very same high quality materials that aided in supporting Takeshi' s design, which ultimately made the difference in producing a winning entry.
We regard Cynthia Tran as highly competent. reliable and someone who is always committed to delivering high quality work. Her humble personality and soft spoken manner works well within a team environment. As an individual she demonstrates determination and high levels of motivation making her a prime candidate for future opportunities in team management. Cynthia Tran also possesses a natural sense of ownership and responsibility to her obligations and it is not uncommon to find her leading by example and rolling up her shirt sleeves with the rest of her team to get a job done. Being highly organized allows her to meet important project deadlines and track mission critical objectives. Her enthusiasm and sense of duty also act as natural encouragement in encouraging the team to complete tasks and delivering timely outcomes.

River Choreo uses the insertion of walls and plat-
forms to manipulate and showcase the agency and dynamism of water through a sequence of hidden spaces. This experiential performance of water works to create temporal spaces as the rivers soft edges eb to form temporal sediment platforms. In tandem, the harsh and violent water juxtapose the captivated serenity of the platforms. . The water showcases its power through sound, speed and movement through choreographed moves. This kinetic energy is cultivated and shifted into electrical energy for the city of Cambridge. The hydraulic moves used and manipulated consist of: eddies, and riffles.

Shibumi INTERNSHIP - Februar y 2018
TAKESHI HOSAKA ARCHITECTS Residential project.
Shibumi is a residential house designed for a small
family to be located in Yokohama, Japan. Through penetrating indoor courtyards, the outside atmosphere is cultivated to create a refreshing and airy space. There is a strong delineation of spaces through a large central courtyard. Shibumi features a wood paneled ceiling and rough concrete walls.

THE FUNCTION OF AFFECT Co-ordinated by David Correa and Derek Revington
As an art gallery, the journey decides what one sees
and what one does not, where one goes and where one does not. This predetermined path is not obvious, giving many options to those who wander, those who are unaware that the end result of every journey is the same.
The composition of the underground city creates a dialogue between the metaphorical art within it, the light that defines it, and the visitor who perceives it.

THE FUNCTION OF AFFECT Co-ordinated by David Correa and Derek Revington
Chiaroscuro is a Film Noir museum illuminated by
the light created by the projection of black & white films. This light, whether interrupted or enhanced by the architecture, creates dramatic and haunting encounters through exposure or obscurity.
From one’s journey through the museum, one observes film noir on various scales: distant, close, distorted, or pure. This observation occurs whether it is through a projection on a surface or embodied through the people within the space.

Pow Wow A rb o u r COLLABORATIVE - Semester 2B 2018
MISSISSAUGAS OF THE NEW CREDIT FIRST NATION Co-ordinated by Paul Dowling and John Mcminn
A group of eleven students built an arbour over the
course of four months for an upcoming pow wow in Hagersville, Ontario. The arbour was designed by a preceding class and consists of columns that support a large outer ring, lathes connected in a crossing curved form to mimic a dream catcher, and an inner ring to receive the lathes. The outer ring was made from pieces of wood that needed to be finished, and the glue laminated together onto form work to create massive curved and angled beams. The lathes were steamed fresh cut ash wood connected to the outer ring by steel brackets.
