Girls Girls Girls
Why are so many teenage girls depressed? Why is suicide in teenage girls the most common? Is there more pressure on
I created a project on the digression of a teenage girls mentality. I intended to portray an array of connotations through simple images – the point being is that I wanted the audience to look further into the images instead of basing an opinion on the denotations.
A Funeral f Romance is not dead - just limp and a bit dehydrated. Couple dynamics have gone through a rollercoaster of stages over the centuries. Traditional dating is a distance memory as 2016 has brought us Tinder, memes and many cringe worthy stories. But what are the stages of contemporary dating? Swipe, stalk and snap Most couples within the age bracket of 18-26 find each other on dating apps such as Plenty of fish, Tinder and Grindr - it’s kind of the new norm. Entirely based on physical attraction, the popularity of these applications is adding fuel to the fire of love and lust. Zoë, 19, said such Apps “cause excitement and a sense of recklessness messaging strangers who you’ve matched with on a physical level…I guess that’s the thrill of it all.” With
over 9.6 million daily active users on Tinder, it is clear that the thrill seems to be working. There are a range of stages most relationships are going through today. The stages began at a mere thumb swipe on Tinder, to determine whether you find someone physically attractive. You then continue the flirtation period with a chat-up line, they tend to be stomach-turning or even quiet frankly terrifying. Here is one of the many tasteless traits of Tinder... Once you’re on at least a four-day streak of talking it’s time for the social stalk. Check the Facebook, Instagram and twitter if they stretch that far. The talking stage continues from here, getting to know each other. If you’re feeling keen add them on Snapchat (then you can re-
ally check if they’re a catfish...). Maybe even a little follow on Instagram you know to see them in different social dynamics. Do they like a good drink? Creative? Nice family? Instagram gives you a grasp of their personality through pictures. It’s important at this stage to act cool about the stalk. You don’t want to put your foot in it when he tells you about his family and you already know his sister is a psychology graduate and brother lives in Australia From here on you might decide to meet up with said Tinder match. Love might progress, you might get stood up or even endure the worst date of your life – the odds are in your hands. Theory of the Meme Initial stages of a relationship these days demon-
for Romance strate an intense period of tagging each other in Facebook posts. Bring on the theory of the memes, “an image, video, piece of text typically humorous in nature.” It seems that tagging one another in a funny post is now an idyllic stage of dating? Humour is a key ingredient to a healthy relationship; science even suggests that the key to love is through laughter. Evolutionary psychologist, J. A. HALL states, “Shared laughter might be a pathway toward developing a more long-lasting relationship.” We all value a good laugh with our partners but now-a-days the root of all laughter is within memes and Facebook posts. “It is probably the most indirect form of validation that they are thinking of you in the day…it can still put a smile on
my face and shows they know your humour,” said a student from Devon. This verifies that we’re adjusting to the growth of social media in the eyes of romance, but are we happy about it? Traditional dating has been bogged down by dating apps in today’s society – after going through the more contemporary stages of dating we now know the tricks of tinder and how humour oversees gentlemanly etiquette. We can only wonder what’s next on the list for dating.

Interior Design Go To
With the scoring success of programmes such as George Clarks Amazing Spaces and Grand Designs our nation is infatuated with interior design. We’re shabby chic obsessed, with chalk paint being advertised left right and centre and DIY Décor pinned on everyone’s Pinterest boards. (excellent lines – well done) 2016 interior design has brought to us faux fur throws, various shades of grey and copper coloured galore – all of which are affordable classy style gems. I’m going to talk you through how to make over your home step by step. Virtually cost free. De-Clutter Simplicity is key in a classy household. Clutter cramps a room and makes it messy and unorganised. A simple solution to this inevitable homely error is nifty storage units. I’m going to utter a word that you’ll all see coming – IKEA, the god of furniture and a close friend of any super savers. Get yourself down to IKEA and I guarantee you’ll spend less than £100 and you’ll have bagged yourself a clean and efficient unit. De-cluttering your home not only is visually pleasing but mentally too. Psycologytoday.com suggests that, “Clutter bombards our minds causing our senses to work overtime on stimuli that aren’t necessary or important. (end quotes?)There is no excuse not to get those black bin bags out to use. Pick a theme A balanced colour theme in any room is aesthetically pleasing. It eases the eyes and creates a homely atmosphere. By theme I mean two simple colours that complement each other and the dynamics of the room you’re decorating. This year interior design is all about neutral: greys, whites and peach tones. To save money and the sheer effort of decorating to an inch of your life, keep to one colour. Whether that means all white walls and one grey feature wall, that’s personal preference.
2016 trendy colour schemes for your home include: Navy, light pink and copper. (Navy is making a comeback – watch this space) Dark grey, light grey and white. Light blue, black white and Rose Gold. Accessories are key The walls are painted; the clutter has been put to rest. Rest in peace – let’s keep it that way. What’s next? Accessories. The most important part of your interior project. Essential accessories include: lamps, cushions, throw, pictures, candles and to the fine-tooth comb detail of coasters and vases. Your accessories need to be consistent. That cannot be emphasised enough if you’re hoping to achieve a sophisticated next-showroom kind of design; you know, without the massive break in your bank. Fabulous interior does not need to be pricey. A spray can of cooper will be enough to jazz up any existing accessories in need of tender love and care. Decorating your home is a big job, but taking one room at a time with these simple tips can help make to process less stressful and more chic. If your colour scheme is in place with an array of fab accessories to compliment, then you’re absolutely in store for a classy home to show off to your pals.
