ello and welcome to Kilmallock United for today’s Munster Senior Cup quarter-final against Leeds AFC. I would like to give a special welcome to all the players, staff and supporters of Leeds who have made the journey today from Cork. I am delighted that we are able to play this game in Kilmallock as we have received enormous support for the club from this part of the county since we have moved our operations to nearby Bruff. With our plans for the development of a centre of excellence progressing quickly for Bruff we look forward to playing an integral part in the sporting, social and economic development of the region in the coming years. Today marks our first competitive game in the 2015 season and I am looking forward to increased support from both fans and Corporate Limerick as we return home to the Markets Field. Martin is currently finalising his squad and today is an important part in their preparation for kick-off against Bohemians on 7 March.
Colm Walsh-O’Loghlen and Ronan Quinn have been called up to the various squads, all of which augurs well for the future.
The long-term sustainability of the League of Ireland is dependent on all the teams producing their own regionally-based players who can feed into the senior team and this has to be the number one priority for every club in the coming years.
As most of you will be aware from following our website and social media outlets, the club continues to be recognised for our underage development with numerous underage International call-ups from Under-15 through to Under-19s. In the last month alone, Ross Mann, Val Feeney, Seán McSweeney, Killian Brouder, Ger Barry,
Finally, I wish to thank the officials of Kilmallock United for hosting us today and wish them continued success this season. Enjoy the game, Pat O’Sullivan.

on the half-hour, and as Limerick pressed for a leveller they went close on 43 minutes. Whitehead’s deep cross from the right was met by McManus who rose above the ‘keeper, but Douglas cleared off the line before McGrath headed the follow-up over. Then Darragh Rainsford drove over, as Limerick went in behind at the break, and six minutes into the second half, the young midfielder drove a shot from range that Kraviec got down to push away.
C
hris Fox’s 84th-minute strike secured Douglas Hall their first Munster Senior Cup as they defeated Limerick in the 2014 final at Turner’s Cross last May.
For the game, 18-year-old Tony Whitehead skippered the Shannonsiders. But it was Douglas Hall who went close first, on three minutes, when David Hackett’s corner was met by Brian Wilkinson but, well placed, he headed wide. Then Limerick should have been in front. Ross Mann’s pace caused problems for the Douglas defence and the ball dropped for Tam McManus but with just the ‘keeper to beat he ran too wide and the chance went.
On 58 minutes, Rainsford saw a free-kick from the left angle of the area gathered on the line by the ‘keeper. Past the hour, Varian’s shot was deflected behind after Douglas broke from midfield. But Limerick were level on 66 minutes when Val Feeney picked out the run of Mann with a superb ball over the top and he rounded the ‘keeper before composing himself to slot in. Seven minutes later, a Feeney corner into the box caused problems. Substitute Kieran Hanlon’s overhead-kick was blocked in the six-yard area, with the ball eventually coming to Whitehead after a scramble but he drove over.
On ten minutes, Mann again did well down the right as he drove past his man and into the box before crossing for James McGrath but, under pressure, his effort was comfortable for Sebastian Kraviec. McManus then saw a 25-yard free-kick gathered low down by the ‘keeper. But it was Douglas who broke the deadlock just past the midway point of the half. Shane Walsh was penalised by referee Graham Kelly after Derek Varian went down in the area and Kevin Kelleher stood up to send Shane Cusack the wrong way and fire the Cork side in front.
Hanlon fired wide on the turn from the edge of the box and then Rainsford got free at the back post but his effort was pushed behind by Kraviec. Fox then saw his long-range lob tipped over by Cusack before he gave his side the trophy on 84 minutes after blasting to the net following a run down the left and cross from Varian, as they added Limerick to their scalps of Cobh Ramblers and Cork City.
Garbhán Coughlan fired wide from distance

ood afternoon and welcome to our first game of 2015 as we host Leeds in the Munster Senior Cup quarter-final here in Kilmallock. We extend a warm welcome to our visitors from Cork, the management team, players, officials and supporters of Leeds AFC who have travelled here today. We also thank Kilmallock United AFC for their hospitality. We started back into pre-season training just a fortnight ago so this tie has probably come a little bit early. However, we are looking forward to it and the players want the game to come quickly from their point of view. We will use it as part of our pre-season preparation and we’ll try to be as positive as we can with it. The lads are still gaining their fitness levels and we haven’t done a whole lot of tactical work with the new players. From that point of view, particularly tactical things, there should be things we want to tweak after the game. From a fitness point of view, we will use the game in a positive manner, work hard and look to play well. You probably have a couple of other competitions that would be higher-profile and more valuable in terms of the club winning it. But we will give the Munster Senior Cup the respect that it deserves and, as we’ll want to do in friendlies, we’ll want to win every game. If we can go and win the Munster Senior Cup that would be great.
standard. With the way the squad is at the moment, today will give an opportunity to the younger players to come in and see what they can do. That’s going to be interesting as well.
We have had some players in on trial during pre-season. Right now, we are in that sort of period where we need to see what we can bring in with the resources that we have, so over the next few weeks we’ll still be working through players. We are all looking forward to the start of the league season which comes just six weeks from today. We hope to see a large crowd there to welcome the club back to its spiritual home and hopefully we can get a result to match the occasion. For today, however, our focus is on qualifying for the semi-finals and hopefully we can do that. Enjoy the game, Martin Russell.
I have been delighted with the boys’ attitude and application. They have been great. We will still hopefully add to the quality of the squad before the first game of the season against Bohemians at the Markets Field on 7 March. For the lads that have been here, they have set a good standard and anybody that comes in will hopefully be equal to that
