2010 NILE Show – Billings, MT

We made our annual trip to Billings, MT for the NILE show. We have shown every year consecutively at this show since 1983. For us it is like a vacation since we get to see a lot of friends and family there. We consigned several lots to the Red Angus sale which is one of the top sales in the country for the breed. In the show we felt that we did well as Audrey’s heifer was reserve heifer calf champion in the Jr. Show and our March sale heifer stood 2nd in a large class behind the 062W show’s reserve grand female. The previous day she made the final drive for overall champion and reserve in the futurity show. In the sale our open heifer sold for $2,900 going to Bowles J5 Reds of Chinook, MT and our bred heifer brought $3,000 and went to N Bar 979W Cattle Co of Russell Springs, KS. We sold a package of three embryos out of our Tilly 008 cow that we own with Forefront Genetics of Provo, UT. These brought $1,000 per embryo which made it the high-selling ET lot of the sale and went to Majestic Meadows Ranch of West Friendship, Maryland.

2010 NILE Merit Heifer

show

The Nile offers this very good program for juniors. Interested juniors apply for a weaned heifer calf to be given in the fall to a worthy individual who must complete an essay on why they feel they should be awarded a Merit heifer. Successful applicants are then awarded a heifer that they must feed, care for and keep accurate records for feed and other associated costs and make monthly reports to the NILE and to the heifer’s donor. Donors are interested cattle producers who are either purebred or commercial producers. The junior’s show the heifers through out the summer and bring them back to the NILE for the Merit heifer show. Upon completion of the show in Billings they are then given title to the heifer. This is a really great program that awards 20-25 heifers per year. We donated a Red Angus heifer for the 2009-2010 year. BCRR Olive 902W - #1308590 a daughter of LCC Cheyenne out of a good Make Mimi cow was awarded to Quinn Steffan of Belfield, ND. Quinn did an excellent job of taking care of the heifer and represented us very well in the Merit heifer show. We congratulate Quinn on all her hard work and effort with her project. We would encourage interested juniors or cattle producers that would like to participate to go to www. thenile.org and check out this worthy program.
