ABOUT Me Brief Description
“
“
To whom does design address itself: to the greatest number, to the specialist of an enlightened matter, to a privileged social class? Design addresses itself to the need. - Charles Eames
7 ABOUT Me NAME//: LINA EL-RAKHAWY
DESIGN IS AN IMAGE COME TRUE.
I
LOVE
TO
OBSERVE
NATURE
AND
ITS
SURROUNDINGS,
TRYING
TO BRING A PART OF ITS BEAUTY TO THE INTERIORS WE LIVE IN. ARCHITECTURAL SITES AMAZE ME, INTERIORS BEWILDER MY SENSES, AND TOURISTIC SITES TRANSPORT TO ANOTHER TIME OF DESIGN. THIS IS THE REASON THAT I FIND PLACELESSNESS IS A PROBLEM IN OUR SOCIETY, AND CAN BE SOLVED THROUGH CREATING THE APPROPRIATE INTERIOR SPACES. THE BEST FEELING A PERSON CAN GO THROUGH IS THE SENSE OF BELONGING SOMEWHERE, AND THAT IS THE TARGET. THE BEST WAY TO PREDICT THE FUTURE IS TO CREATE IT.

JAPANESE APARTMENT FALL 2013// TECHNICAL DRAWINGS As Interior Designers
As Interior Designers, the clients are greatly inspired by Charles Mackintosh. The space created is of a Japanese design, furnished to create the Zen environment, as was applied within Mackintosh designs. It is a calming space created to relieve stress and help with the work.

• Quotes on the walls to keep employees motivated.
• •
Lighting had a high frequency of positive and negative responses, according to the location of the employee’s at the office. A minority of the employees provided negative feedback regarding the small size of the pantry. The entertainment area is perceived as an advantage at the office.
• The office space under analysis has a high autonomy regarding lighting and the office design. • Results also showed that employees have less control over the temprature of the office.
Office Demographics
Cluttered wires could be considered a design violation.
Respondents' Sample Results
Based on the analysis, a strong correlation was found between lighting and employee satisfaction. ( p value < .001 ) This finding comes hand in hand with the study done by Cambridge University Press (“Enviromental”1982).
The correlation between office layout and teamwork led us to conclude that the open office layout encourages communication between employees thus making teamwork easier, increasing productivity. ( p value < .001) This is proven by article ‘The New Yorker’ (2014).
The statistical analysis showed a strong positive correlation between design and productivity. ( p value < .001) These results are supported by the findings of the article written in ‘Evolutionary Psychology’ (Fitzgerald 2012).
The analysis created a surprisingly strong correlation between personal space and productivity. ( p value < .001 ) This relationship is confirmed in Journal of Facilities Management, written by Bany Haynes in 2008.
Statistics proved that the location of a workspace correlates with the employee’s level of productivity. ( p value < .001 ) The results are supported by an articlein the ‘Journal of Environmental Psychology’ (Jungsoo 2013).
The investigation demonstrated that productivity is affected by noise traveling within the space. ( p value < .001 ) This fact was discussed in ‘Facilities’ in 2008 (“An Evaluation…”).
Overall, the analysis conducted on this marketing compay’s office space resulted with mixed reviews about the design criteria tested at hand. Lighting is the topic that gained a high frequency of responses within the office on both its positive and negative premises. In conlcusion, space planning was found to be the main problem in this space, which resulted in many contradicting responses. Even though its an open office layout, the desk locations and paritions need to be relocated to avoid blocking the light in certain areas of the space, espeically with the windows on most walls. One topic they need to consider is ergonomics, due to the fact that the employees jobs require long hours of computer work. The use of ergonomical chairs would create, since most of the employees seemed uncomfortable and fidgeting in their seats constantly. This addition would increase the comfort resulting in higher productivity and satisfaction. "An Evaluation Of The Impact Of The Office Environment On Productivity." Facilities 26.5/6 (2008): 178-195. TO HELP WITH THE WATER CONSERVATION CONCEPT, THE FAUCETS CHOSEN ARE WATER EFFICIENT. MANDOLIAN SINGLE HANDED CENTERSET KITCHEN FAUCET, WITH CHROME FINISH WAS USED FOR THE SMALL PANTRY AREA. THE FAUCET USES 6.8 L/ MIN OF WATER FLOW, RATHER THAN THE REGULAR 12.6 L/MIN FLOW. IT IS EASY TO USE WITH WET OR SOAPY HANDS, WHICH HELPS IT BEING PLACED WHERE IT IS LOCATED. VERO 2 HANDLE WIDESPREAD LAVATORY FAUCET IS USED FOR THE BATHTUB AND BATHROOM SINKS. THIS IS FAUCETS OF CHROME FINISH AND WITH 5.7 L/MIN OF WATER FLOW INSTEAD OF THE REGULAR FAUCETS.

PLANTS AS WELL AS GLAZED GLASS FOR THE EXTERIOR OF THE ROOMS ARE USED TO COOL DOWN THE ROOM, WITHOUT TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE AIR CONDITIONING. SOLAR PANELS ARE THE MAIN SOURCE OF ELECTRICITY AND HEATING THROUGHOUT THE HOTEL. THE ENERGY GAINED IN THE MORNING WITH ALL THE SUNLIGHT IS USED AT NIGHT FOR THE FEW LIGHTS WITHIN THE ROOM. AS FOR THE MORNING, THE FOUR GLASS WALLS LIGHT UP THE ROOM NATURALLY. ALSO, THE GREY WATER IS USED TO FLUSH THE TOILETS AND SOME OF IT IS TAKEN INTO FILTERS TO BECOME CLEAN ENOUGH TO IRRIGATE THE GREENERY WITHIN THE HOTEL. IN GENERAL THE ELECTRICITY IS BEING CONSERVED AND WHEN USED, IT IS USED BY OUR NATURAL RESOURCE, THE SUN. AS FOR THE WATER CONSERVATION, THE WATER IS ALWAYS BEING REUSED TO HELP WITH THE AMOUNT OF DAILY WASTE. THE GLAZING OF THE GLASS KEEPS AWAY AN AMPLE AMOUNT OF HEAT TO COOL DOWN THE SPACE.

THE IDEA BEHIND AURA IS TO HELP ITS CUSTOMERS
GAIN THE SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE STEP BY STEP. TO GET A DRINK, THE CUSTOMER WOULD BE REQUIRED TO BUY A CUSTOMIZED THERMAL CUP THAT WOULD THEN GIVE THEM AN EXTRA FREE DRINK FOR THE DAY. THE CONCEPT BEHIND THIS IS TO CREATE A ROUTINE OF GETTING A CUP TO REFILL INSTEAD OF PAPER CUPS. THE TRASH BINS INSIDE REMIND THE CUSTOMER WHAT THEY GAIN FROM RECYLCING PRODUCTS, BY THE QUOTES WRITTEN ON THEM. WE GET TO SAVE THE EAR, KEEP OUR WATER CLEAN AND PURIFY OUR AIR. THE LIGHTING IS QUITE MINIMAL SINCE THE OPERATING HOURS ARE WITHIN SUNLIGHT TIMINGS AS WELL.
