CHRISTMAS IN POETRY Eighth grade students from East STEAM Learning Center wrote poems to express Christmas in Tecumseh.

Winter Winds by: Madison Findley

Fall has come and had its fun, Wreaking havoc, and causing leaves to be on the run. Winter winds start to fly, And the Fall chill says goodbye. Snow rests upon frozen grounds, With children building snowmen all around, Rolling snow into little balls to be thrown, Even in winds chilling to the bone. A blizzard swarms outside the children’s windows, Marshmallows melt in hot cocoa, Night falls upon the land, By morning the winds bring a winter wonderland.

A Christmas Night by: Audrey Bindus

Winter in Tecumseh by: Elizabeth Masterson

Winter in Tecumseh is unpredictable. Sometimes it snows, and sometimes it rains. The snow comes down fleetingly for it never lasts. When the raindrops drip, they feel like ice, And while the snow falls from the sky, I worry once more, When the will rain return to melt the snow? Yet as we stand around the little evergreens, We know that soon, Christmas will be here. And so we decorate our homes with tiny lights. We enthusiastically await The arrival of Saint Nick and his little toys, As we lay in our beds for Saint Nick. Each Christmas morning, the children wake to presents. And when they open the countless gifts, They are excited to play with their Christmas gifts.

The Night Santa Came to Tecumseh by: Liam Frost

‘Twas the night before Christmas A night just like today, (except it’s in a couple of weeks.) Everyone was sleeping, all snug in their beds While Santa Claus flew over their heads. “Oh, my,” said Santa, “there sure are many naughty people this year, but they’re mostly in the White House, so there’s not many here,” He flew over Evans, he flew the Boulevard, and then he landed in a person’s yard. “Fireplaces are dead,” said the elf, “You should walk through the door instead!” As Santa walked up to the door, something caught his eye A sight so beautiful, it would make a grown man cry. A family was sitting down in conversation surrounded by Christmas decorations If only, thought Santa Claus. I could hear what they said. Santa put his ear up to the window, then with a pause Heard what they had said. “Dad,” said the boy, “I heard some rustling outside,” “Then go get my gun!” his dad replied. Santa was shocked to hear such an utter He ran to his deer, all in a clutter There was one shot, two shots, three shots more Can people do that anymore? Thought Old Saint Nick. This type of behavior really makes me tick! “Wait Dad!” shouted the boy. “This is no Santa decoy! He’s the real thing!” Then he started to sing. “IIII looove Saaaantaaa Claaaus!” sang the boy. “STOP! STOP!” shouted Santa. “If you stop, it will bring me great joy! But he’s right, I am Santa Claus! And I’m glad this violence has come to a pause! I bring gifts, for your boy’s been good! The best child in the neighborhood!” “Well, good job son!” the Dad said. “Look Santa, I’m sorry I almost shot you dead!” “Oh, don’t worry!” soothed Santa. “It’s Christmas, and I don’t want to put your Christmas in a shred! Here’s your present little boy! And thank you for bringing me such joy! That was a story about how Santa put his problems aside, and helped a deserving soul! Because if you don’t help on Christmas, you’ll get a pile of coal! For reasons unknown, “The End” is overused, and often abused So to end this story I say: SHAKE OFF THE BLUES, AND HAVE A GOOD CHRISTMAS DAY!
