Jason Gym, Home of the Blue Tigers Jason Hall was originally built in 1958. Over the years, an addition was made to the front of the building, along with several other minor renovations.

The first phase of the Jason Hall renovation took place with an installation of a new HVAC system, a new basketball court and bleacher system. In 2008, the second phase addressed safety issues within the building, such as updating the sprinkler system. The Physical Education department received a new office complex, complete with private offices and a conference room. New audio/visual equipment was also installed in the PE classrooms. The coaches' offices were also renovated to allow for more privacy. The locker rooms were completely redone and a new weight room with state-of-the-art equipment was constructed. The restrooms, ticket booth and concessions area were also remodeled. Finally, a new Daktronics scoreboard was installed in the gym to allow fans the chance to see up-to-the-second player points and other stats. Another phase of renovation was completed in the summer of 2019, as the court in Jason Gym was completely redone thanks to support from Legends Bank. A brand new court, complete with the re-branded Blue Tiger head logo in the center and MIAA logos inside the keys, will serve as the home of Lincoln's men's and women's basketball teams beginning with the 2019-20 season. Jason Gym is located on 809 Lafayette Street in Jefferson City. Tickets to most of Lincoln's regular season basketball games cost $5 for adults and $3 for non-LU students and Lincoln faculty and staff. Lincoln students receive free admission.

John Moseley, Lincoln University Director of Athletics, announced on April 6, 2020 that Andrea “Drea” Mize will be the next head coach of the LU women’s basketball team. “Coach Mize has had success everywhere she’s been, and has a proven track record of quickly turning around programs,” Moseley said. “We launched a national search for our next head coach and attracted many great candidates, but Coach Mize’s energy, passion and history of success preparing players for both games and for life set her apart. Our university and the Jefferson City community will benefit from her enthusiasm, and I’m excited to have her lead the next chapter of Lincoln University women’s basketball.”

“I would like to thank Dr. Jerald Jones Woolfolk and Coach Moseley for allowing me to join the Blue Tiger family,” Mize said. “I understand we have our work cut out for us, but I look forward to the opportunity to turn the Lincoln University women’s basketball program around in one of the toughest conferences in NCAA Division II, the MIAA. I can’t wait to get to Jefferson City and get to know the players, the community and the great people of the university.” Mize spent the past two years as the head coach at Central Florida College, where she led the Patriots to 31 victories and a berth in the FCSAA State/NJCAA District tournament. Mize took over a program that had won just eight games and increased its win total each season, improving to 12 wins in 2018-19 and a 19-victory campaign in 2019-20.

In 2017-18, Mize helped MMC win its first-ever regular season conference championship, and she helped the program twice reach the finals of the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament. Mize coached the Indiana Flight AAU team for four years and had her own basketball training company for three years. Mize spent three seasons as a player at NCAA Division I Indiana University, where she played for Curt Miller, the current head coach of the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun. John Moseley was officially named as the Director of Athletics at Lincoln University on April 12, 2016, after having served as the Interim Director of Athletics since July of 2015. Moseley initially joined the Blue Tigers on April 14, 2014, after being named as the head men’s basketball coach, a role that he has maintained in addition to his duties as the Director of Athletics. Moseley was instrumental in Lincoln University’s partnership with Jefferson City Parks, which resulted in the construction of a state-of-the-art campus wellness and recreation center known as the Linc. A $14-million project located on Lincoln’s campus, the Linc houses a gymnasium with 4 basketball courts or 6 six volleyball courts, a suspended track, a spacious fitness center, office space, classrooms, meeting spaces, and a President’s Suite that overlooks Reed Stadium.

John Moseley Athletic Director

Simultaneously, Moseley collaborated with the LU Student Government Association to promote a plan that allows Lincoln to become more competitive through an upgrade in athletic facilities, increasing athletic scholarships, and providing a better game day atmosphere for Lincoln students. In November of 2016, Lincoln students bought into the vision and voted for a new student athletic fee which provides funding to support Blue Tiger Athletics, allowing the Department of Athletics to support $3 million in athletic upgrades and construction. Dwight T. Reed Stadium received significant renovations, including the installation of a synthetic turf field, a resurfaced track, new LED lighting, and a video scoreboard, during the summer of 2017. Moseley worked to secure funding for a brand new basketball court in Jason Gym in 2019, and Lincoln’s softball program began play in a new complex, complete with a brand-new scoreboard, in the spring of 2017. New locker rooms and offices spaces have also been constructed for LU football and men’s & women’s track during Moseley’s tenure leading the athletic department. In the summer of 2015, Moseley oversaw the development of the Blue Tiger Athletics Club, the university’s booster organization. Membership during the initial year was 157, and has increased each year, with 178 members in 2016-17, 264 in 2017-18 and more than 335 in 2018-19. The Blue Tiger Athletics Club has contributed over $70,000 towards the purchase of weight room equipment for Lincoln’s student-athletes. Lincoln’s student-athletes have increased their academic performance during Moseley’s time as the Director of Athletics, with 76 Blue Tiger student-athletes being named to the MIAA’s Academic Honor Roll for earning a 3.0 or better GPA during the 2018-19 school year, and four athletes earning Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-American accolades. Moseley developed the Blue Tiger Awards Show to recognize the academic and athletic accomplishments of LU student-athletes. In addition, he began the tradition of graduates receiving sashes to denote their experience as Blue Tiger student-athletes. During Moseley’s tenure as the director of athletics, Lincoln has won three NCAA Division II national championships (women’s indoor track & field, 2016 & women’s outdoor track & field, 2018 & 2019) and six of LU’s 12 athletic programs have qualified for postseason competition. An active member of the Jefferson City community, Moseley has also successfully grown the athletic department’s corporate sponsors, beginning partnerships with Chick-Fil-A, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Legends Bank and Capital Region Medical Center, among others. Moseley has been active in organizations at the national, state, and local levels, and is currently a member of NACDA, D2 ADA, the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the Jefferson City Evening Lions, and the JC CVB’s Athletic Events Committee. Moseley is in his second year of representing the MIAA on the NCAA D2 Men’s Basketball Committee and has also served on several MIAA task forces. A Warrenton, North Carolina, native, Moseley graduated from East Carolina University with a bachelor of science degree in exercise & sport science in 1998. He obtained his Master’s of Arts in Education (MAEd) in Athletic Administration from East Carolina University in 1999, and is currently a candidate for a Doctoral degree in the University of Missouri’s Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (ELPA) program. He and his wife, Crystal, have one daughter, Jillian, and are proud members of the Jefferson City community.

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY 2020-21 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL MEDIA GUIDE

Since 2003, few teams in any sport have achieved the level of success enjoyed by the Lincoln women’s track & field team. The Blue Tigers continued the dynasty in May of 2019, when Lincoln won its second-straight NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field national title. Winners of 14 total national championships over the past 16 years, including five-straight NCAA Division II outdoor titles from 2003-2007, the Blue Tiger track & field program was honored in 2013 by being inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. Lincoln has established itself as one of the top track & field programs in all of NCAA Division II, with the men's team posting top-10 finishes in the 2019 NCAA Division II Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Both the LU men and women won MIAA titles in indoor track & Field in 2016, with the men taking the title during the 2017 outdoor season en route to finishing as the national runner-up at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Before the 2019-20 season was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lincoln men's indoor track & field team was ranked No. 1 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Division II rankings. The Lincoln men's golf team has also experienced the feeling of winning a championship recently, as the Blue Tigers have won seven PGA Minority Collegiate National Championship Division II tournaments. An annual golf tournament sponsored by the PGA and open to all HBCU men's golf programs, Lincoln posted wire-to-wire victories at the championship in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, Blake Lammers continued the tradition by becoming the individual champion at the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship. In 2016, Lammers also was the individual titleist at the MIAA Championships and became the first Blue Tiger to qualify for the NCAA regional since current coach Aaron Murphy accomplished the feat in 2009. Over the past nine years, 10 Lincoln athletic programs have qualified for some form of postseason competition. In 2011-12, the LU women's basketball team came within eight points of playing in the MIAA tournament championship game. In 2013, Twishana Williams became the only female runner in the MIAA to earn All-American honors. The men's basketball program has made the postseason in each of the past five years while Ryan Brown won the indoor national championship in the triple jump in March of 2019.

The women's track & field team won its 14th national championship in May of 2019.

Blake Lammers won the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship in 2015 and the MIAA title in 2016.

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY 2020-21 WOMEN'S BAKSETBALL MEDIA GUIDE

History of Lincoln University At the close of the Civil War, soldiers and officers of the 62nd United States Colored Infantry, stationed at Fort McIntosh, Texas, but composed primarily of Missourians, took steps to establish an educational institution in Jefferson City, Missouri, which they named Lincoln Institute. The following stipulations were set for the school: 1. The institution shall be designed for the special benefit of the freed African-Americans; 2. It shall be located in the state of Missouri; 3. Its fundamental idea shall be to combine study and labor. Members of the 62nd Colored Infantry contributed $5,000; this was supplemented by approximately $1,400, given by the 65th Colored Infantry. On January 14, 1866, Lincoln Institute was formally established under an organization committee. By June of the same year, it incorporated and the committee became a Board of Trustees. Richard Baxter Foster, a former first lieutenant in the 62nd Infantry, was named first principal of Lincoln Institute. On September 17, 1866, the school opened its doors to the first class in an old frame building in Jefferson City. In 1869, Lincoln Institute moved to the present campus, and in 1870 it began to receive aid from the state of Missouri for teacher training. College-level work was added to the curriculum in 1877, and passage of the Normal School Law permitted Lincoln graduates to teach for life in Missouri without further examination. Lincoln Institute formally became a state institution in 1879 with the deeding of the property to the state. Under the second Morrill Act of 1890, Lincoln became a land grant institution, and the following year industrial and agricultural courses were added to the curriculum. In 1921, the Missouri Legislature passed a bill introduced by Walthall M. Moore, the first black American to serve in that body, which changed the name from Lincoln Institute to Lincoln University and created a Board of Curators to govern the University. The North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools accredited the high school division in 1925, the teacher-training program in 1926, and the four-year college of arts and sciences in 1934. Graduate instruction was begun in the summer session of 1940, with majors in education and history and minors in English, history, and sociology. A School of Journalism was established in February 1942. In 1954, the United States Supreme Court handed down its ruling in Brown v. Board of Education, and Lincoln University responded by opening its doors to all applicably meeting its entrance criteria. Today, Lincoln University serves a diverse clientele, both residential and non-residential, engages in a variety of research projects, and offers numerous public service programs in addition to providing an array of academic programs.
