The most anticipated event of the summer is back in business – monkey business, that is! Welcome to our 37th annual Zoo Ball as we celebrate the magnificent and free Lincoln Park Zoo. On behalf of the Women’s Board, many thanks to Kevin Bell, President and CEO, and the entire zoo staff for supporting our efforts. Thanks also to John Ettelson, Chairman of the Board, and Karen Krehbiel, our Board of Trustees Liaison, for their gracious generosity and leadership. This year, we would like to acknowledge the support of our returning sponsors. We recognize Guggenheim Partners, LLC as our Presenting Sponsor for the fourth consecutive year. Fellow longtime supporter J.N. Pritzker/Tawani Foundation/Pritzker Military Museum and Library is being honored as our Grand Patron Sponsor. Their support, along with the generosity of our many donors, was instrumental in making this evening possible. Finally, a big THANK YOU to the Women’s Board Zoo Ball Leadership who, along with all our members, worked tirelessly behind the scenes in preparation for the gala. You ladies give new meaning to a “hands on” volunteer experience! Work is underway on our first new animal exhibit at Lincoln Park Zoo in nine years, Regenstein Macaque Forest. This and other developments will contribute to deepening the zoo’s worldwide leadership in conservation, education and animal care through state-of–the-art facilities and programs, as well as its invaluable presence in Chicago. Proceeds from this event are going towards the Women’s Board efforts to support these new initiatives. Enjoy tonight! We invite you to return often with your friends and family to experience Chicago’s most treasured wildlife experience.

We are fundraisers, ambassadors, and friends. Thank you for making the past two years so special and congratulations to our incoming leadership team.
This is one of those rare times at Lincoln Park Zoo when we get to celebrate not only the beauty and wonder of the wildlife already entrusted to our care, but also the much anticipated arrival this fall of a troop of Japanese macaques. How appropriate then, that the theme of this summer’s gala is Monkey Business. Let me first express my appreciation for the Women’s Board and its extraordinary effort in organizing Monkey Business and for making Zoo Ball one of the high points of Chicago’s social scene. Proceeds from the event will help the Women’s Board provide support that is essential for sustaining the zoo as a community treasure. A big thank-you also goes out to Co-Chairs Katie Gledhill and Caroline Huebner and the entire Zoo Ball Committee for their tireless efforts in ensuring Zoo Ball’s success. I am enormously grateful, too, for Guggenheim Partners, LLC serving for the fourth consecutive year as Presenting Sponsor and third year as underwriter of the dinner in its entirety. And a wholehearted thank-you to J.N. Pritzker/Tawani Foundation/Pritzker Military Museum and Library, our Grand Patron Sponsor and longtime supporter of Zoo Ball. Lincoln Park Zoo is free and open every day thanks to the support of our members, donors and volunteers who make all our achievements possible. I know you are as proud as I am when you walk throughout the zoo and see what we have accomplished together and when you learn about our ever-expanding conservation initiatives around the globe. Please accept my sincerest invitation this evening to engage in a little “Monkey Business,” which you will enjoy and remember for years to come.

Science Celebration 2014 This festive showcase of student science projects from across Chicago has been hosted by the Women’s Board since 2005. Science Celebration is the culminating event for more than 200 students who participated in the zoo’s Young Researchers Collaborative. This education program leads middle school students through original research projects focused on animal behavior or biodiversity in the classroom and at the zoo. Support from the Women’s Board offers students the opportunity to present their findings to peers, parents and zoo scientists in the prestigious setting of Café Brauer.

Raffle Rules and Guidelines Under Illinois state law, raffles are a form of gambling, where a monetary wager is made for the chance to win a prize. As an exempt organization Lincoln Park Zoo (LPZ) must comply with all federal and state reporting and tax withholding requirements. Persons winning raffle items will receive documentation of fair market value (FMV) from LPZ and are fully responsible for the income tax resulting from prize awards. If raffle winnings minus the wager exceed $5,000, income tax of 30% (25% federal and 5% state) must be withheld. LPZ will issue a Form W-2G to all raffle prize winners whose winnings (1) are $600 or more and at least 300 times the amount of the raffle ticket, or (2) are greater than $5,000. For cash prizes in excess of $5,000 (minus the wager), 30% withholding will automatically be deducted from the gross proceeds (amount of winnings minus the wager) paid to the recipient. For noncash prizes where FMV minus the wager is more than $5,000, the recipient must pay 30% withholding tax to LPZ. Applicable prizes will not be transferred to winners unless the 30% withholding tax has been paid to LPZ. Additionally, the winner must submit a signed Form W-9 to LPZ and complete a Raffle Prize Winner Registration Form. Illinois residents must also submit a signed Form IL-5754. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in forfeiture of the prize, and a new winner will be drawn. The wager is equal to the amount paid for the winning raffle ticket. In the case of one wager for multiple tickets, such as 5 tickets for $100, the wager is considered as $20. The purchase of raffle tickets is not tax deductible. No substitutions, exchanges or cash redemptions may be made. All prizes are nontransferable, and any taxes or consumer-related charges are the sole responsibility of the prize winner.
Silent Auction Rules and Guidelines 1. The Silent Auction will open at 6:30 p.m. and will close at 10:30 p.m. 2. Winning bidders must pay for their item on the night of the auction or rights to the item may be forfeited. Payment may be in cash, check made payable to Lincoln Park Zoo, or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express). Items will be available for payment shortly after the auction closes. 3. The fair market value of each prize as stated by the donor is listed on the electronic bidding system. Any donation in excess of this amount may be deductible for federal tax purposes. Any and all tax obligations are the sole responsibility of the winners. 4. All sales are final. All prizes are subject to the conditions and limitations listed on the table signs and in the electronic bidding system. Please read the table sign and electronic bidding system carefully before placing your bids. 5. If not otherwise stated, all certificates expire on July 11, 2015. 6. Certificates for hotels, air transportation, or gift items should be treated as cash; they cannot be replaced if lost or stolen. 7. All items in the auction are sold “as is,” are non-transferable and are not exchangeable unless otherwise noted. 8. Opening bids must equal or exceed the minimum bid amount indicated on the electronic bidding system. The Silent Auction Committee may remove items from the auction if the minimum bid is not made. 9. Each successive bid must equal or exceed the required increment shown on the electronic bidding system and must be in a round dollar amount. The Silent Auction Committee may void any bid that fails to adhere to the required increment. 10. Bidders should be sure to provide accurate contact information to Lincoln Park Zoo when bidding on items. Every effort will be made to award the prize to the highest bidder. In the event that the highest bidder’s name is unclear or the contact information is incomplete, the item will be awarded to the next highest bidder. 11. Winning bidders must make arrangements to collect their prizes. All prizes must be taken with the winner at the end of the evening. Lincoln Park Zoo assumes no responsibility for unclaimed prizes after the close of the event. 12.
