Veromia; style 61362... Veromia’s wedding dress designer is Jason Jennings. Jason has been designing bridal, bridesmaid and evening gowns for many years. after graduating from the London school of Fashion in 1995 he went on to gain his Ba Honours at central st Martins in 1997.
Jason Jennings Jason then went to work for david Feilden where he stayed for 8 years honing his talent for designing gorgeous gowns whilst also teaching at the London school of Fashion and central st Martins. From there he went on to create his own label until in 2008 Veromia snapped him up to become their in House designer. Being passionate about his designs and being male, Jason understands how a woman should look, and pulls this into his designs, creating a well fitting sexy yet feminine look to all the labels he designs for the brand.

The Bride After the Bride and Groom, the Mother of the Bride ranks as one of the most important guests at a wedding, and there’s no reason why she can’t shine too with these wedding outfit ideas... Your daughter is the star of the show, but there’s no reason why you can’t shine as the Mother of the Bride too. There are so many options for mothers to choose from, with gorgeous patterns, materials, styles and colours as well as bespoke outfits from both designers and the high street. he most popular religion across the UK’s 60,975,000 population is Church of England Christianity, with over 22% of the population declaring themselves a member of the C of E denomination, in the most recent national census. In marriage terms that relates to over 250,000 Church of England marriages each year, of which 40% take place in church. But these days, it’s even easier to marry in a church of your choice following Marriage Measure and Marriage Law Review. The review is the result of a working group established by the Archbishop’s Council in 2002 which addressed the process of calling banns in church and relaxed the limitations of where couples may marry. From 2008 couples have been able to marry in a church which has a special significance to them rather than in a parish church within the parish where either the bride or groom is resident.
Church weddings remain popular with couples, but recent changes in synod law mean couples now have a much wider choice of where they choose to marry! Now, couples can choose to marry in a church if they can demonstrate a Qualifying Connection - that is, if the bride or groom was baptised, confirmed or if they habitually worship in that church, or if the person has had their usual place of residence in the parish of a particular church for at least six months. Couples can also chose to marry in a church if their parents live or have lived in the parish in question or have habitually attended worship there. In order to comply with UK civil and church law, banns - an announcement of your intention to marry -
must be read in the church in which you plan to marry, on three Sundays, usually but not necessarily consecutively. Those over the age of 16 may marry with those aged under 18, requiring parental consent, and the time of your wedding must take place between 8am and 6pm on any day - wedding rehearsals take place outside these times in order that the ‘practice run’ isn’t rendered legally binding! Civil ceremonies, conversely, require couples to give a notice to marry at their local registration office, regardless of the destination of their intended marriage and require the superintendent registrar’s permission to marry. The registrar will then issue the relevant documentation which must be presented at your civil ceremony to a person authorised to conduct weddings within that district. Christians believe that marriage is the appropriate relationship in which to share a life together, raise a family, make love and make a life-long commitment to one another. Couples often feel a greater affinity to the Church once they begin their wedding planning and are able to enrol on both pre-wedding ‘boot camp’ courses which aim to strengthen the bond between the couple by exploring the role of marriage in a Christian context, and the Alpha Course, an opportunity to explore the Christian faith and other religions in a relaxed ‘non-dogmatic’ way over ten thought-provoking weekly sessions, with an optional day or weekend away; see www.uk.alpha.org for further details.

hen it comes to planning your big day, there are lots of different wedding religions and etiquette to remember. A wedding is often more than just a celebration of marriage, and we take a look at what takes place at different religious wedding ceremonies.
Muslim Wedding Muslim weddings can be different depending on the culture. A wedding can take place on any day and at any time, except Day of Pilgrimage, Day of Ashura and Eid. Once a date is set, the couple will speak with the Iman at the mosque or cleric. The ceremony can take place anywhere, and there’s different wedding attire dependent on the culture. The Asian Muslim bride tends to wear bright, sparkling bright colours, whereas in contrast the Arab Muslim bride wears white. The wedding ceremony is called the Nikah, and the couple are seperated and listen to a sermon. The ceremony ends with a prayer, before a marriage banquet is served. The couple return to the groom’s home where they perform a Rukhsat ritual. An important part of a Muslim wedding is the Mahar, a gift from the husband to wife.
Jewish Wedding The bride and groom may not plan their ceremony on the Sabbath day, key holidays or religious events. Shortly after engagement, they attend a meeting with the Rabbi to determine when they can be wed. The couple decide what time suits them, and when
the ceremony, the best man places a wine glass wrapped in white cloth under the groom’s foot. He breaks it and guests shout ‘Mazel Tov’. The newly weds share a few intimate moments in the Yichud before they join their guests for the celebrations
Sikh Wedding Sikh weddings are also known as Anand Karaj, or a Blissful Union. It isn’t required for every wedding, but a Kurmai or engagement ceremony is performed a week before the wedding in the Gurdwara or at the groom’s home. The wedding begins with the Braat (or groom’s family and friends) staying at the bride’s home for the evening. The ceremony then takes place at the Gurdwara or the bride’s home the day after. Songs and dance continue for the remainder of the day, and the bride and groom depart the day after with his family. Sikh weddings are usually a one or two day affair, and is usually held in the morning followed by a dinner and dance banquet at night.
There are lots of different religions, and they all have their own unique Hindu Wedding Hindu wedding, or Vivaah Samskar is one of the traditions and ways when it comes Amost important rites of passage. It is thought to be to planning a wedding ceremony... the first stage of life. The bride and groom arrive at the they send their invitations. There are 11 essential steps for a Hindu wedding, including the welcoming, prayers, mutual approval, giving away of the bride, marriage commitment and worshipping of the sacred fire. There are also different items that are required for the marriage ceremony. These include three pedestals called Bajat, an open Mandap, loose flowers or rose petals, candles, Lahya or puffed rice and Mangal Sutra. The bride and groom often dress appropriately, such as in a sari or dupatta.

Candles, flowers, crystals and favours can all make your wedding tables look individual so exploit the opportunity to make your wedding unique here, more than anywhere else.
The Fundamentals
Above All...
There are many ways to style a venue in terms of colour, table dressings and the food you choose... but you can’t change the style, size or location of a venue, so view as many as possible in the run up to your wedding.
Have an idea of the style of wedding you’d like grand, posh, quirky, fun - and most of all enjoy shopping around.
Consider Your Options The most exciting aspect of planning your reception is the variety of options available to you - from grand historic castles to intimate boutique hotels, to marquees for a summer wedding on the lawn... the options are endless.
Talk to your chosen suppliers, have a firm idea of the number of guests you’ll be inviting and work out a budget early on - when you view a reception venue, do so armed with a good idea of figures so you can determine the exact price. With every venue you visit you’ll pick up more and more ideas!
You may not have a clear idea of what you want from a reception but you’ll know roughly the style or scale of your wedding. Choose a venue which suits the size of your event, and the style. Do dine or stay at your chosen venue too to accurately assess how happy you’ll be hosting your reception there.
All Year Round Don’t discount the idea of out of season or mid-week weddings. It’s natural that peak times command a premium, but planning your wedding in such a way as to avoid these times could save you thousands... a winter wedding perhaps? With mulled wine, furry stole and bright red berries incorporated into your colour scheme?
Make It Your Own Search the internet for favours that suit the theme of your wedding, use photographs of yourselves to create table cards or get into the kitchen to bake cookie favours with your guests’ names iced onto them.

ake your reception extra special and enjoy a beautiful party venue with little more than a bit of effort and a bit of imagination. 1. Dress up the entrance Your reception entrance will create a first impression for the type of reception you’ve organised. Use swags of greenery, topiary or line your entrance in silk, but do ensure your guests’ first impressions of your venue are favourable. 2. Illuminate your venue It’s likely your venue will rely on conventional lighting. Consider candelabras, tea lights and fairy lights to provide ambience lighting. Additionally, consider how you’ll illuminate your reception when the main lights go off at night.

7. allow time for your photographer A good wedding reception should allow your guests to socialise whilst you devote time to your photographer to allow them to take your formal shots. Make sure they’re entertained with a glass of champagne or Pimms, and perhaps some canapés.
3. Tame the toddlers Make sure your reception includes entertainment for children. Little party bags with crayons and colouring books will keep children busy and allow parents to enjoy the day in peace.
8. Name your tables Choose table names rather than numbers - music idols, titles of films or the word love written in different languages for example. As far as possible make them personal and imaginative and illustrate them wherever possible.
4. add atmosphere with classical music If your budget can accommodate it, classical music like a string quartet or pianist will cover up the clatter of cutlery and the sound of conversing guests who have loud voices.
9. Cut your centrepieces down to size Opt for table decorations that are less than 14in high, or more than 20in high - in other words, low enough for guests to see each other over them, or tall enough for guests to see each other across the table.
Add a few quirky details - for instance, a table magician or a bouncy castle for the children, or table fireworks... 5. Create a playlist If your budget is more limited, create a playlist on your MP3 or burn a CD of background music (classical or light jazz) during your reception. 6. Sparkle on your big day Sparklers not only look great when the lights go down or when you venture outside for your fireworks, but can be used to entertain children and for creating ‘lightpainting’ photographs (above).
10. Tame your table planner Planning your seating arrangements can be a nightmare - especially if you’ve lots of politics to contend with. Use free software, like www.ukbride.co.uk’s table planner, to tame your tables. 11. plan for poor weather Of course we hope your day is sunny and warm, but ensure you have a backup plan too - personalised wedding umbrellas and indoor heaters for your marquee, for example. 12. add a few quirky details Consider quirky details for your reception - a table magician, or caricature artist to add some fun to the day, a bouncy castle for the youngsters (and the young at heart!), or perhaps a basket of inexpensive slippers for women tired of their high heels.

13. Create a colour theme Create a colour theme for your wedding and implement it within your reception, but do so with care. Use different shades of the same colour rather than trying to ensure everything matches exactly. Chair covers are a good way to disguise naff looking reception chairs and with silk or taffeta bows, can help to reinforce your highlight colour. 14. Caution with colour Coloured cakes look dramatic but some guests are turned off by garish or bright coloured cakes. Avoid controversial colours like lime green. If choosing colours isn’t your thing, a reception designer or wedding planner can take charge of just the decorating of your venue. 15. Slip into something more comfortable If you’re wearing a large dress it may feel a little cumbersome when the time comes to enjoy your receptions. You may also feel hot and tired. Ensure you have something more comfortable to change into - a flat pair of shoes and knee-length dress for example.

16. Consider a photobooth Some photographers or videographers have pop up studios for high key shots of your guests, or ‘Big Brother’ style diary room setups. Guests in a videographer’s booth can record short messages wishing the couple well on their big day. 17. Involve your guests If you’ve a DJ at your reception leave music request cards for them to pass to the DJ. Likewise leave disposable cameras on tables for guests to take their own candid shots of the reception. 18. Create children’s meals Don’t forget to ask your venue to prepare cheaper child-friendly meals - rather than expecting them to eat full portions of adult food. 19. Create a gift book Create a guest book that people can sign during your reception. Other companies offer wedding plates that can be signed, which are then posted off to be fired. 20. make your wedding favours Bake cookies, make jam or design little place cards to use as wedding favours, instead of - or to supplement - ‘off the shelf’ wedding favours.

Five Simple Tips
Seating Arrangements If there’s one element of your wedding planning sure to be fraught with stress... it’s negotiating the politics of arranging your tables. Allow us to help! n Traditionally, the groom sits to the right of the bride with (working outwards) alternating male and female place settings for the bride’s father, groom’s mother and best man (to the bride’s left) and the bride’s mother, groom’s father and chief bridesmaid (to the right of the groom). n However, with step-families and children featuring in many weddings, an acceptable current convention is to seat children at the top table and have dedicated tables for each set of parents or step-parents. n An alternative to politics is to create a sweetheart table a table of two where just the bride and groom are seated. n To plan your other tables, use www.ukbride.co.uk’s table planner - it’ll automate a tricky job. Remember to seat children nearest to the toilets, and elderly relatives away from speakers and drafts. Avoid creating a ‘singletons’ table - your table plan is not a great tool to try to matchmake single friends! n Don’t try to turn a blind eye to family politics - nip any hassle in the bud by pointing out that table planning is a practical necessity and you expect guests to get on and behave well, regardless of any existing politics. In doing so you’ll set the ground rules right from the start, so take a firm stand and explain that disagreements won’t be tolerated.

COLOUR CO-ORDINATE TABLES
It’s a good idea of bear in mind how you’d like your reception tables to look when you’re establishing your colour theme, as they’re a great way of implementing your chosen colour scheme...
n Good as Gold: Opt for a combination of soft gold (napkins, flowers) and a stronger shade (use this on your table runners, favour boxes and perhaps on glassware) to create a luxurious look that pairs well with soft gold groomswear or gold accents in your bridesmaids’ dresses. n Lilac and Soft Pink: An example of how softer shades and stronger tones can work really well together. There’s a huge number of soft pink table linens and favours out there, whilst a stronger highlight of purple works well to prevent the scheme looking too anaemic. A third colour of soft blue adds depth. n Think Texture: Don’t just consider colour this punchy pink colour is given extra luxe with table crystals, pearls and glassware. Candles make cheap favours and look great when illuminated at night. They’re also available in a limitless range of colours.

With an average of 75-100 guests, your wedding tables will dominate your reception venue and take up a good deal of room. However, with so much scope in terms of how to style and decorate them, you can really use your tables to express your style. Decide on a theme, name each table and carry this through - different flowers, favourite bands - the quirkier the better. Opt for white or cream table linen and build in your highlight colour with chair covers, bows on the back of chairs, napkins, runners and charger plates. Next, create a centrepiece for your table. Marquee Weddings A marquee will give you the flexibility to plan the size, shape and look of your reception down to the last detail... just be sure to consider our tips! n Book early; marquee companies sometimes have both new and old stock; confirm early to ensure the best marquee stock, especially during mid-summer when both weddings and country shows are at their height. n There are two types of marquee; canvas pole marquees which are better in summer with greater airflow and arguably better looking, and clear span marquees which are more stable, and don’t have poles and ropes getting in the way. n Budget for extras; flooring, the dance floor, luxury toilet blocks (one unit per 50 guests), silk linings, heating or air conditioning, lighting, furniture and crockery hire. n Position your bar (where people congregate) near your entertainment and ensure you don’t inadvertently create areas of congestion - around the entrance, for example. n After something different? IF YOU GO DOWN TO THE WOODS TODAY you’re in for a big surprise, as this month’s styled wedding shoot features on-trend rustic theme that many Boho Brides want to incorporate into their special wedding day. Wedding photographer Mandy Carter found the perfect location, giving her inspiration for this Woodland wedding. Rustic tables and chairs covered with moss, flower garlands and ivy are given a glamourous edge with chandeliers, and gold and red colours. Those extra little touches can help make your wedding day truly unique, and although they can take time, things like our glass jars, hanging light bulbs with flowers, and gold painted apples for place mats are all finishing touches that you can use for your wedding. Mandy’s photography was treated to a crossprocessing effect that emphasised her images and to help make the colours really stand out.

Ideas This month, we look at some fabulous ideas for favours at your wedding that are guaranteed to put a smile on your guests’ face.
Giving favours is a wonderful tradition meant to bring good luck to the bride and groom, and bring a smile to every guest’s face. Wedding favours do something special for someone - they thank your guests for celebrating the most amazing day of your life. Don’t worry - you don’t have to a huge budget to create unique wedding favours, and a big trend this year is the DIY favour. 1. Spread the love: We love these mini jars of jam - and you can also use chutney and jelly to have as wedding favours too. Add a bright wrapping tied with a ribbon, and personalise with your guests’ names. A great way to spread the love!
4. Bathe me: Add a touch of beauty, colour and freshness to your reception tables with bath and soap favours. They make a great summer favour and guests can take it home and feel and look good.
2. Herb-tastic: DIY plant and herb favours are a great as favours at your wedding, especially for the greenfingered bride. You could also give a small flower or plant pot too.

n The Best Man: Choose your best man carefully! He should be responsible as well as a friend... and it’ll help enormously if your bride-to-be approves of your selection!

Traditionally, his responsibilities include organising the stag do, or weekend, rounding up relatives for the photographer and being the custodian of your luggage before you leave for the honeymoon.
n The Speeches: If comedy doesn’t come naturally, don’t try to be funny; just be sincere. If you do want to introduce humour, remember the audience includes children and grandparents - there’s nothing more embarrassing than poorly judged humour that suffers a very public death.
His responsibilities also include escorting the chief bridesmaid after the wedding. n The Stag Do: Typically this involved a pub crawl, and if this is the case, make sure it’s held well in advance of the wedding. Excepting a groom’s tendency to fall victim to drunken pranks and accidents, it’s also a great shame to organise and pay for a wedding only to feel too ill, hungover and tired to enjoy it. Consider weekend activities which include younger teenagers and older groomsmen alike; adventure weekends, paintballing, karting and so on.
If you’re nervous about the delivery, don’t read from a script; have a good idea what you want to say, then use cue cards rather than trying to read complete text. Rehearse over and over until you’re completely familiar with your speech, and you can deliver it comfortably and confidently. Make eye-contact with your audience and compliment the relevant people; your in-laws, the groomsmen, the bridal party and most of all your new wife. Do use the phrase ‘my wife’ early on in the speech, as this will raise a cheer and make you feel more at ease.
n The Suits: Don’t rush your suits; visit several local suppliers, not just one and view the whole range available to you.
n The One You Love: Ironically, your wedding day is so busy you’ll spend very little time alone with your bride.
Take inspiration from a colour swatch from the bridesmaids’ dresses supplied by your bride, and provide your groomswear supplier with this so they can match to it as closely as possible.
Ask the chief bridesmaid to surprise your bride on the morning of your wedding with a token of your love - a piece of jewellery or perfume for example.
Buy your wedding shoes at least a month in advance and wear them in so you’re not
Steal a few minutes away together to tell her you love her amid the excitement and constant stream of well-wishers.

hotography has changed dramatically with the advert of digital technology. For years, digital imaging had to ‘catch up’ with the quality and warmth of film. Now, taking pictures is easier, with screens on cameras to preview exposures, no messy time consuming films to develop or film to buy. It’s quicker to design and print images on computers, easier to distributed pictures on CD and via the internet. Consequently there are more photographers than ever, but whilst the medium has become easier, the skill of manipulating light, using flash, posing people and dealing tactfully with brides on an emotional day remains just as challenging. That’s why photography is still a job for the professional, not for a well-meaning friend or relative.
Professional photographers also create photobooks of their images or large mounted photographic prints, rather than prints created on domestic photo printers. Having years of experience enables a professional photographer to deal tactfully and professionally with anxious brides, nervous grooms, and guests – a skill that the amateur photographer just doesn’t possess! Those who market themselves as photographers but don’t work as full-time professional wedding photographers may not be able to dedicate sufficient time and energy to capturing your big day.

Will I Be Retouched?
There is much talk of different styles of wedding photography the main two being traditional and reportage. Traditional styles favour groups and romantic shots, reportage shots appear unposed and concentrate on a natural look that appears to be less intrusive. Expect a professional photographer to perform post-processing on your images whether they’re shooting on film or digitally. Some, however, limit this to tone and colour correction. Ask if your chosen photographer will perform black and white conversions, sepia tints and other similar effects, colour popping, or blemish removal and how much time they will put into post-processing your images.

When can I see my photographs?

Can I have my images on CD/DVD?
Can you obtain low-quality or watermarked versions of your images to use on Facebook or UKbride or email to friends? These days, our lives are carried out digitally, and being able to use your pictures in digital photo frames, on social networking sites and being able to email them or print them out at home is essential.

What does my final album include?
Packages vary enormously – how many prints and at which sizes are included in your photographer’s price? What will your album look like and how many images will feature?
Never entrust capturing your wedding to your well-meaning friend or relative - a professional photographer will do a much better job of capturing the most important day of your life...

Do you carry backup equipment?
Whether shooting on film or digitally, every photographer should have backup flashes, lenses and other equipment to carry on shooting in the event of faulty equipment.
Some photographers turn around their images rapidly whilst others take several months – sometimes even longer, depending on the time of year and number of members of staff working to post-process and present your pictures, so ask for an ETA on your images.
Make sure your photographer is insured against stolen equipment, lost or damaged films or memory cards or falling ill on the day of your wedding.

Do you work alone?
Two or more photographers ensures the bride and groom can each be photographed getting ready, or that detail shots of your day can be captured whilst another photographer organises group photographs. The more photographers who attend your day, the more comprehensive your wedding images will be, particularly when your chosen photographers consist of both a male and female photographer.

Getting along with your wedding photographer isn’t just a nicety. Your photographer should make you feel comfortable for relaxed looking shots. On an already emotional day, it’s crucial that your photographer is sufficiently assertive to pose and offer instruction to the wedding party. It is sometimes a nice idea to arrange an ice-breaker engagement shoot for you and your intended before the big day so you get the hang of posing.

ong after your wedding cake has been eaten and the flowers have wilted, your photographs will prove a lasting legacy for the happiest day of your life. Remember that photography and videography are not interchangeable, and each serves a very different purpose. Whilst a wedding DVD will provide a literal record of your day, with all the moments funny outbursts and expressions you may have missed - wedding photographs, when kept on your mantelpiece or on your desk at the office, have the potential to be moments frozen in time. It’s important, then, to capture them perfectly, and to do so with a high level of both technical and creative mastery. Fortunately, the advent of digital cameras plus Photoshop and a new generation of technology-savvy digital photographers has provided brides with the greatest ever scope for creative, clever and artistically shot images. In general, most photographers will shoot a combination of formal (i.e: staged) and reportage photography (i.e: unposed, unobtrusive, on-the-fly). Look for a photographer who values natural light, as well as being competent with flash, one that can provide an album as well as digital images. Expect to pay between £1,000-£2,500 for a good photographer who incorporates postproduction work; there are some who provide

an ‘images on the same day’ service which is certainly convenient, but images reach their customers untouched and this service usually doesn’t include professional prints and albums. Here, we’ve asked a couple of the area’s most experienced wedding photographers to provide their recommendations for the top ten must-capture shots of the day, and for advice when you’re looking for your wedding photographer. 1. I’m Getting Married in the Morning: Many brides opt out of having their photos taken in the morning. We always encourage brides to allow photographers to shoot them preparing for the big day. It’s amazing how many interesting and beautiful images you can capture in such a small amount of time, and in just the

The first drop of champagne for breakfast, the finishing touches to your hair and make-up, the proud father looking on as his daughter walks down the stairs in her wedding dress... these images all need to be captured forever! 2. The small details: A growing trend over the past few years has been the importance of shooting the fine details. Whether it’s the rings placed on an interesting texture, or the bride and groom’s place names at the top table, these incidental images help to break up any wedding album from just being a book of ‘people pictures.’ 3. I do! If you’re lucky enough to have an easy-going vicar or registrar, that doesn’t mind photos being taken during the ceremony, you can get really memorable images of the two of you exchanging your vows and saying those all important words; ‘I do!’ (or even better, a ‘you may kiss the bride’ shot).

Capture the Kids: Whether they’re screaming in the church, or looking as cute as a button, running around the grounds of your venue, there’s no getting away from the fact that kids can make very picturesque subjects for photographs. 5. Just the Two of Us: Both brides and grooms can be camera shy. If you or your husband-to-be aren’t particularly fond of having your photos taken, the opportunity of having a pre-wedding shoot with your photographer is always a good idea.

It means I not only have the chance to get to know my couple, but they also get to see how I work, and also which poses work best for them. Experience of a shoot with me beforehand helps them to relax on the big day which results in better images. It helps the couple to know what to expect.” 6. All Together Now: Some modern photographers are not huge fans of boring group shots where the

to the groom and the best man. Whether it’s a tear coming from the bride, groom, or a family member sat at one of the tables, make sure your photographer is keeping an eye out for people showing their emotions. It’s images like this that add drama and atmosphere to your final wedding album. 8. Cutting the Cake: One of the most traditional photographs to be taken at any wedding is the cake-cutting shot. “I don’t think I’ve ever been to a wedding and not seen the happy couple scream out for a shot of them cutting the cake.” said our photographer. It may not be the most imaginative image of the day, but you’ve paid a lot of money for the cake... at least get a shot of you with it before all your friends and family eat the lot! 9. First Dance: It’s been a heck of a long day, and no doubt it feels like it has gone too quickly. Everyone has enjoyed a drink or two and it’s time for you and your other half to take to the dance floor for the first dance.
Successfully capturing a couple who are moving, in a dark room, and ending up with realistic looking skin tones is technically challenging. Only a professional photographer can capture moments like your first dance.

Speeches: One the most emotional parts of any wedding is the speeches, from the father of the bride,
All eyes are on you, including the lens of the official photographer and in a dark room with a moving subject, this is one of the trickiest shots to capture... it really highlights the difference between a poor photographer and a good one. The first dance is quite intimate, with the couple really close together, holding one another tenderly. So, make sure that your snapper concentrates on shooting an image that really captures the moment. The lights, the crowd of friends and family in the background, this is a picture-perfect situation if ever there was one. 10. Relax and Enjoy the Day: You may want to get great shots of you both looking stunning, but you also have to make sure you enjoy the most important day of you life. Try to imagine that the official photographer isn’t there; that they’re just one of the guests. This way the photographer will not only get more natural photos of you, but you’ll also make the most of your wedding day.

Screen Legend Having your wedding filmed is the most perfect way of recording the amazing story of your day, and uniquely it gives you the opportunity of watching all the people you love really enjoying it with you.
O
f course the film will be a record of the key moments of your wedding, but it will be so much more than that – it will be a permanent record of those people you love, looking amazing and being so happy to be sharing your day with you.
And as time goes by, those couples who did decide to have their wedding filmed look upon it as not simply a record of the best day of their lives, but as an investment in their family’s heritage. Some do’s and don’ts about choosing a wedding videographer: • Ask friends and family who have had their wedding filmed if they would recommend the videographer they chose • Meet a few videographers and spend some time chatting with them – you need to feel comfortable that this individual will be sharing your day with you • Ask to see an example or two of a full wedding they have filmed, don’t rely on a showreel.

pend or save? There’s a multitude of ways in which you can trim the cost of your wedding, but some may prove false economy. For example, the cost of wedding photography can vary from £200 to £2,000 and over, but the difference in the end result is marked. There’s a distinction to be made when planning your wedding between cost – what you pay for something – and value – whether something was worth the price you paid – and in the case of photography, a cheap photographer may show in terms of technical abilities and your final album. That’s not to say, however, that all aspects of your wedding will be the same. For instance, favours can be expensive, usually priced per head so that a £2.50 favour seems more affordable when, in fact, the reality is 150 guests necessitates a spend of £375. In this case, making cookies with your guests’ names iced on and a little ribbon may require a morning in the kitchen, but will result in a dramatically cheaper favour that’s also much more personal. Your Reception The smaller your wedding the cheaper the venue may be – and the shorter your guest list will end up being too. Use a smaller venue as an excuse to shed some guests, consider a ‘no children’ policy or apply a ‘time limit’ – if you’ve not seen distant relatives for, say, five years don’t bother inviting them. Enquire about the time of year you choose to marry and the day – mid-week weddings are often cheaper, as are out of season weddings. Your dress Many brides choose to search e-Bay and other such auction sites for second-hand dresses. Since wedding dresses are only worn once and can be dry-cleaned and altered to suit, you can shed hundreds, sometimes thousands, of pounds.
Our search revealed over 25,000 dresses priced from just £100 for a brand new, made to measure gown… though some brides like to be able to try on their gown before they order. An alternative, if you’re a ‘standard’ size and shape is to try one of Oxfam’s ten specialist wedding dress shops. Flowers & Cake Many churches have volunteers who will happily create your flowers in return for a donation to the church – the best place to find information is to talk to your local vicar or scan the parish noticeboard.
The best way to ensure your budget doesn’ t go awry is to set a realistic budget for each element and stick to it, and don’ t be afraid to ‘ stick up for yourself’ when the family tries to impose their will on your wedding... Equally, supermarkets such as Marks and Spencer stock plain white iced fruitcakes which are considerably cheaper than employing the services of a cake artist. These can be ‘dressed up’ with embellishments of your choice. Stationery & Favours Personal computers can be used to create your chosen wedding stationery, orders of service and table plan. Visit a stationery specialist and purchase a nice stock of paper, perhaps with a textured finish. Depending on the style of your wedding, embellish with ribbon, photographs of yourselves or other decoration. Your wedding day should be personal or special to you. Whilst there may be one or two areas in which you can cut back, there may be others that are too important to you to force a compromise. Set your budget and don’t be afraid to negotiate on price. The frugal bride can shed £1,000s with a little initiative, a little chasing around and, above all, a good eye!

They might provide you with a disc of images on the day but if they are not good quality you’ll never be able to recreate the day exactly as it was. Y
our wedding ring is not a benign object, but a symbol of your love for one another, a continuous band to represent an unending love. Only since the Second World War have men accepted a wedding ring in return, but now ‘his and hers’ bands are common. Wedding bands tend to be plainer, especially for men, with bevelled edges preferred and men’s bands generally wider than womens - around 6mm for men and 3mm for women, with a typical budget of around £500. Conventionally, wedding bands are created in white or yellow gold or platinum, though more contemporary materials such as titanium are available. Typically silver is avoided as it tarnishes over time and doesn’t have the longevity necessary in a ring you’ll be wearing for decades to come. Women’s wedding bands embellished with
this act is so recent that a firm precedent hasn’t been established. As with any wedding element, shop around and view as many examples as possible, opting for a design that reflects you, personally. Ensure you have your ring finger professionally measured rather than guessing sizes, and allow a little movement if you’re likely to remove it often. Engraving is a popular, low-cost way to personalise your rings, with messages typically engraved on the inside of the ring for around £20. For a completely bespoke ring, enlisting a bespoke designer is a more expensive but luxurious option, whilst travelling ring suppliers can visit you in your own home. Typically these will visit you in your home in the evening or at weekends, making life much easier, and can show you a couple of hundred samples before you choose your width, material, finish, embellishment and engraving, before they are delivered a month or so later. Without the overheads of a chain of stores these can often work out surprisingly cost effective.

Diamonds are the most common option, in which case it’s wise to ‘gem’ up on the four C’s - colour, clarity, cut and carat - which would be familiar from your engagement ring shopping. Finally, consider a wedding ring that fits round or ‘halos’ your engagement ring - these are a modern design statement and look really great.
