Each ship in the National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions fleet is a destination in its own right, featuring superior amenities and engaging experiences to ensure that your time on board is equally rewarding as your time on shore—from exquisite culinary delights to soothing spa treatments, performances from local musicians and more.
Sampling local cuisine is a highlight of any voyage, and the culinary team takes great care to bring Arctic flavors to the meals you enjoy on board. Executive chefs design unique menus that prominently feature sustainably sourced seafood and produce from the places you visit, as well as wine pairings and guided tastings to enhance your experience.

Greet the day with a sunrise yoga session or unwind in the spa with a massage, serenaded by the sound of soothing waves. Dedicated wellness spaces—including treatment rooms, saunas, fitness centers and more— encourage you to tap into the natural rhythms of your surroundings. Whether it’s a soulful Icelandic folk song or a cheerful Newfoundland sea shanty, music offers a window into the identity of our northerly destinations. Ethnomusicologist Jacob Edgar curates musical experiences aboard the ships, bringing melodies that echo your ports of call. For select voyages, he has assembled a lineup of performances featuring local musicians whose songs bring the traditions of the far north to life.
“ Traveling in Svalbard is a kind of “lottery”—one rarely knows what will be behind the next corner. It might be a stunning view or a bucket-list animal, like walruses, an Arctic fox or maybe even a distant polar bear. The unpredictability creates a true expedition spirit, which makes Svalbard so exciting for both first-time visitors and seasoned guides like me.”
—KERSTIN LANGENBERGER, NATURALIST
Few places showcase the drama of their creation like Norway, where a maze of rock and water cuts the coastline from tip to tail. Sail the country’s iconic fjords, or set your sights on Svalbard, an Arctic archipelago framed by snowy peaks and ice-checkered waters. On this icy frontier, polar bears outnumber people, and multiple types of whales are regularly spotted offshore.
For the Scenery Seeker: From the waterfall-laced fjords of the mainland to the snowscapes of Svalbard, Norway has some of the most stunning scenery in the far north.
For the Wildlife Lover: Svalbard’s snowy shores are as wild as the Serengeti. Set out on an Arctic safari to spot polar bears prowling the ice, walruses hauled out on shore and reindeer prancing across tundra.
For the Active Traveler: Kayak amid sparkling icebergs and soaring fjords, and hike sweeping glacial valleys and jagged granite peaks.
For the Photographer: With epic wildlife, stunning landscapes and endless light from the midnight sun, this is a dream destination for photographers. A National Geographic photographer joins every voyage to help you bring home your best photos.
In spring, Svalbard is covered in ice and snow and bathed in astonishing light. The landscapes come alive in the summer, the best season for wildlife watching.

Drawn to the breathtaking Arctic landscapes, National Geographic Photographer Nick Cobbing has traveled to Svalbard nearly every summer since his first visit in 2005—often as an expert for National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions voyages. Here, he explores the photographic allure of this remote, high Arctic archipelago.
Taking photographs is an important part of the expedition experience because it helps you understand the landscape. What makes Svalbard an inspiring place for a photographer is the diversity. Ice and snow, glaciers, a very powerful ocean—there’s a lot to capture here.
With the Zodiacs, we can go ashore to photograph the tundra’s grasses, lichen and mosses. There’s also the beautiful purple saxifrage flower—a signature of Svalbard—that puts color into pictures.
Some subjects from my favorite images: Svalbard reindeer, which aren’t found anywhere else. Sometimes an Arctic fox might be curious about us. There is also abundant birdlife: kittiwakes, eider ducks and Arctic terns—beautiful birds that come here to feed and forage in the summer.
The glaciers and snow influence the light because they reflect it back up so that there’s light coming out of the ocean and darker spaces in between. It creates a whole palette that we can incorporate into our photography.
“
Much of Iceland remains untouched by humans, and that’s our greatest treasure. With National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions, we get to enjoy it in a way that minimizes the footprint while maximizing the experience.”
