I’m thrilled to welcome you to Lindblad Expeditions, the world’s longest-operating expedition cruise company. When Lars-Eric Lindblad led the first expedition to Antarctica for private citizens in 1967, he voyaged with a clear purpose: to help inquisitive people deepen their connections to our wild planet through transformative travel experiences. Since that inaugural voyage, LarsEric’s son, Sven Lindblad, has led the growth of our expedition portfolio to include more than 110 itineraries across all seven continents. Throughout this time of exciting change, our original mission still guides us. Each moment of every expedition is designed to fully immerse you in whichever destination you choose to explore.
You might be wondering what immersive travel means to us. To start, it means venturing to the absolute wildest places on Earth—legendary destinations like the Galápagos Islands and Patagonia, as well as little-known shores and isles, like the icy straits of Alaska’s Prince William Sound, and Tristan da Cunha, the world’s most remote inhabited archipelago. It means purposefully building our vessels to be small and nimble, so that we can sail deeper into wilderness and disembark quickly to take advantage of wildlife sightings. It means bringing your destination onboard and celebrating it through fine food, regional artwork, and local music. And it means partnering with pioneers like National Geographic, so that you can travel with and learn from their brilliant photographers, researchers, and modern-day explorers.
Above all, immersive travel means putting you—our guest—at the center of your experience. Exploration looks different to everyone, and we want you to experience your destination at your own pace and through the lens that interests you, whether that is wildlife, photography, history, culture, or whatever else moves you to travel.
We have honed our approach to expedition cruising over 50 years so that you can have the most transformative and the safest experience possible aboard the Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic fleet. Because innovation is inherent to our ethos, we are always striving to perfect that approach. Sustainable initiatives are central to these efforts—together with our guests, we have invested nearly $18 million in marine and coastal conservation projects and environmental stewardship efforts in the places we explore. Today, our planet calls on us to make even more radical efforts, which is why we are 100% carbon neutral, use the cleanest fuel available in the places we sail, serve locally sourced food, and have eliminated single-use plastics from the guest experience aboard our expedition ships, among other critical initiatives.
We know you have a choice of travel operators, and we hope you choose to explore with us—to forge a deeper relationship with our beautiful world alongside a community of passionate explorers, and to invest back in the places and people we visit. We’re excited to have you onboard!
Sincerely,
Trey Byus Chief Expedition Officer

to Expedition Cruising
Expedition cruises are driven by the desire to explore wild and fascinating places in depth while enjoying a world-class experience on board. Here, we answer common questions about expedition cruising for the first-time Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic traveler.
Zodiac boats are integral to the expedition experience, allowing us to explore at water level and access each destination’s most secluded corners —such as remote polar beaches populated by penguins, ancient coastal sea caves, or narrow inlets where whales swim and bears fish.

WHAT TO EXPECT
What is an expedition cruise, and how is it different from a traditional cruise?
A traditional cruise follows a schedule with pre-set excursions. Instead of focusing on the world outside, the ship serves as a floating resort, emphasizing the vacation life onboard.
An expedition cruise takes place on a small ship designed to navigate hard-to-reach places, yet prioritizes comfort and well-being. Guests are immersed in their destination through hands-on exploration, learning about flora and fauna, geology and culture from a dynamic onboard expedition team. The voyage is driven by discovery, with the captain and expedition team members working together to find the most exciting opportunities presented by nature.
Where do expedition cruises sail?
Just about anywhere deep and wide enough to navigate, and far from busy ports and piers—that means narrow Chilean fjords, small Mediterranean harbors, Greenland’s icy waters, and beyond. With nimble ships and highly seasoned crews, we can seek out lesservisited shores so that your experience is authentic and personal.
How do you explore on an expedition cruise?
What does a typical day look like?
One of the beauties of an expedition cruise is the freedom to explore your way. There are typically several opportunities for shore or water-based excursions each day. You might start your morning with a Zodiac or kayak outing. After lunch, you could go for a hike or a guided tour of a historic site, or simply watch for wildlife on deck. During the evening Recap, your expedition team will highlight exciting discoveries so you can learn even more about what you saw that day.
Who are your guides on an expedition cruise?
Expedition teams are made up of world-class naturalists, photographers, cultural experts, undersea specialists, and others who give context to the places you explore. Each team is curated for the voyage so that you get in-depth perspectives from veteran guides and people who come from your destination.
What types of travelers would enjoy an expedition cruise?
Anyone who travels to experience and learn through engaging activities. With daily adventures that are fun for both kids and adults, families are a natural fit. Solo travelers will find a likeminded community onboard, and guests of all ages can opt for low-impact activities and enjoy a rewarding experience.

Pioneering Responsible Travel
Lindblad Expeditions was founded on the belief that travel can be a powerful force for good, and that belief is reflected in everything we do. When you choose Lindblad Expeditions, you can travel with peace of mind, knowing that green practices are embedded into our everyday operations and that each voyage gives back to protect the natural and cultural heritage of the places we visit. Here’s how we are setting the standard for responsible travel in expedition cruising and beyond.
Clean and Efficient Ships
Our ships use the cleanest fuel available in the remote places we operate, and our newer vessels are equipped with emerging technologies that optimize efficiency—like positioning systems that reduce fuel consumption by up to 10% and a patented X-Bow®, which reduces power demands by up to 8%. Across the fleet, itineraries are purposefully designed to minimize fuel usage, while still providing an incredible travel experience.
100% Carbon Neutral
In 2019, we achieved complete carbon neutrality, offsetting 100% of the emissions from our fleet, employee travel worldwide, our offices in New York and Seattle, all land-based operations, and other measurable sources.
Fresh Food with Local Roots
Lindblad Expeditions is committed to buying locally grown food and sustainably caught seafood, and to offering vegetarian and vegan meal options across the fleet. We pioneered groundbreaking farm-to-table food programs in places like Galápagos, where we source 30 to 40 tons of local produce annually.
16
SUSTAINABILITY
Protecting the World’s Oceans
The Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic Fund was established in 2008 to support global conservation initiatives. To date, the fund has contributed nearly $18 million to projects aimed at preserving the world’s oceans, restoring critical marine and coastal habitats, and fostering environmental stewardship.
Artisan Fund
Launched in 2007, this unique program empowers artisan communities by offering training programs, supplying workspaces and equipment, and issuing grants to support artisan projects. Artisan goods are offered in our Global Galleries and Markets fleetwide, and 5% of sales are directed to the fund.
Science at Sea
Our Visiting Scientists Program invites researchers and conservationists to conduct impactful projects aboard our fleet, such as an examination of the impact of snow algae blooms on Antarctic ice melt and whale surveys in the Southern Ocean. This season, we are hosting more than 20 scientists in places like Antarctica, Alaska, and the Galápagos.

Guest Impressions
Creating lasting memories for our guests has been our driving mission for 50+ years. Here, past guests share their travel stories and the moments that will stay with them for a lifetime.
Sarah and Howard Singleton Antarctica, January 2022
When we began planning our wedding, we had the idea to combine it with our bucket list trip to Antarctica, and Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic embraced the prospect with complete enthusiasm. On the White Continent, Captain Martin Graser found the perfect sheet of fast ice in the Lallemand Fjord for our ceremony. Although none of our loved ones from Texas were able to travel with us, our crew and fellow expeditioners had already become like family, and they were all invited to the event, with officers stepping in as our attendants.
The National Geographic Resolution crew packed down two feet of ice and set out walking sticks to create an aisle for us, and one of the dining staff made us a paper
wedding bouquet. Our kiss was celebrated with a blow of the ship’s horn, and the crew even arranged for us to stay our honeymoon night in the glass igloo on deck.
As it turned out, our wedding was not just about the two of us—but the 100 or so guests, the incredible crew of the National Geographic Resolution, and all the penguins, whales, and icebergs in attendance on that unforgettable day.

EXPEDITION STORIES

Andy and Sasha Rice Galápagos, January 2020
Galápagos was the perfect adventure for me and my 10-year-old daughter Sasha, an animal lover and ‘want-to-be’ explorer. Together we swam with rays, sea lions, sea turtles, and penguins. We hiked and experienced the rich diversity of birds and animals found nowhere else on Earth. And while Sasha has never been afraid of the wild or wild things, the National Geographic Global Explorers Program gave her more confi dence to dig deeper into what we witnessed, using her new observation and storytelling skills—and in the company of new friends, whom she still talks with weekly! Sasha and I are looking forward to another Lindblad adventure together, when we sail the Amazon in 2023.
