EXHIBITIONS PENNY BYRNE BRUTAL

CHANGING PLACES UNTIL > 8 MARCH

UNTIL > 8 MARCH Penny Byrne’s sculptural works are politically charged, highly engaging and often disarmingly humorous. Using materials such as bronze, glass, vintage porcelain figurines and found objects, Byrne’s work presents an ongoing inquiry into popular culture and international politics. Her background in ceramics conservation and the law informs her practice. Byrne’s ability to work across varying mediums exemplifies how she challenges the boundaries and assumptions around her art. Linden New Art would like to advise that this exhibition contains material that may offend some viewers. Not suitable for people under 15. Under 15s must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

Changing Places is a response to Linden's temporary relocation in 2017. Five artists explore the notions of “change” and “place”; peeling back the layers to find what it means to them, to their worlds and practices. > CHRIS BOLD > I-YEN CHEN > SARA MOTAWETZ > JAMES VOLLER > SIYING ZHOU

IN RESIDENCE AT DOMAIN HOUSE SAM LEACH AVIAN INTERPLANETARY

KYLIE STILLMAN THE OPPOSITE OF WILD

27 MAY > 6 AUGUST 2017

27 MAY > 6 AUGUST 2017

Avian Interplanetary is a proposal for a future habitat that takes into account the world view of both humans and non-humans. The works explore possible connections between recent research about the evolved human preferences for certain landscape schemes and experiments into how creatures use visual signals and strategies to negotiate their environment.

The Opposite of Wild reveals Kylie Stillman’s concerns about humankind’s response to and interaction with nature from a conceptual and physical perspective. Stillman’s installation reconfigures and recontextualises 100s of unwanted paperbacks by precisely cutting individual pages with a scalpel to reveal the negative space of a river red gum tree.

LINDEN ON THE MOVE IN RESIDENCE AT DOMAIN HOUSE > FROM 27 MAY 2017

Linden New Art is on the move this year as our much-loved building undergoes a major renovation. We will leave our Acland Street home in 2017 and will return in 2018. We are delighted that the City of Port Phillip are making a significant investment in the building. The renovation work will see much needed roof and verandah repairs, a new entrance, gallery reception, improved disability access and an extra exhibition space for Linden. During the renovation we will be working behind the scenes developing our program prior to being in residence at Domain House from 27 May 2017 with the launch of solo exhibitions by Sam Leach and Kylie Stillman. We look forward to seeing you at Domain House, Dallas Brooks Drive, South Yarra. We are located near the Gate F entrance to the Royal Botanic Gardens and next to Govenor La Trobe’s Cottage. KEEP IN TOUCH WITH US! > Join our mailing list, visit our website & follow us on social media to stay up to date.
