Dr. Gordon Christensen was quoted recently: “Dentistry is changing so fast that it’s extremely difficult for practitioners to stay up to date.” The same may be said of dental laboratories. The changes are coming so swiftly and are so significant that it is difficult for dental laboratory owners, managers, technicians, customer service and sales staff to keep up to date. Most importantly, it is most challenging to figure out what actions should be taken and when they should be made. To deal effectively with these changes and keep our competitive edge we need to develop new skill-sets. In this session participants will learn how: • • • •

George Obst
Emeritus, Dental Services Group, has accumulated more than 35 years of experience in the dental laboratory industry. George earned a B.A. degree from Alfred University and aan M.S. degree in business administration from Long Island University. He has worked as Personnel D Director, Laboratory General Manager, Regional Manager and Vice President/Operations for the Heritage D Dental Laboratory Group of Sybron Corporation between 1970 and 1979. George owned and managed a medical and dental consulting firm in Minneapolis between 1980 and 1985. He was named President and Chief Executive Officer in 1986 of the Medserv Dental Laboratory Group. He served on the Board of the National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped. He served on the Board and was a past-trustee advisor and chairman of the trustee advisors of Oral Health America. Also, he served on the Board of Directors of the American Dental Trade Association. George is particularly proud of his role on the Select Committee of the National Association of Dental Laboratories. Saturday, September 20, 2008
“Precision in Dental Aesthetics”

The reproduction of the aesthetic aspect and the functioning of natural teeth through restorative work, represents as always, the primary objective of our work. When we talk about the conclusive phase of the restorative process, we must have a perfect knowledge of the dental anatomy and the correct use of materials with the proper techniques. The result will allow us to create long-lasting restorations. This lecture will focus on the laboratory’s daily procedure with its technologies and methods, giving attention to all of the latest CAD/CAM systems which seem to evolve quite rapidly, with the aim of achieving a much better result for the final product.
Romeo Pascetta, CDT, born in Trivento (Italy) in 1959, graduated in 1977 at the School for R Dental D Technicians. In 1980, he opened his own laboratory in Chieti, where he lives with his family. He has h constantly been improving his techniques, attending many classes throughout the world. Over the years, y he has become one of the leading technicians in the world. He has developed new techniques for f precision casting and is specialized in the use of the stereomicroscope which he uses during all phases p of his work to achieve maximum precision and better aesthetics. Romeo has a vast experience in gnathology, implantology, and is considered one of the best ceramists in Italy. He has collaborated since 1995 on the development and promotion of Captek, together with Mr. Aharon Whiteman and Doctor Itzhak Shoher, in Italy and in the United States. He collaborates actively with various companies for R & D in new products and testing of materials. 4

He is the 2007 winner of the Judson C. Hichey Award in the research category in the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry. F13 F Alessandro A Cucchiaro, MDT is a Certified Master Dental Technician from Europe (Italy) with more than 25 2 years of experience out of which he owned his own lab for 20 years. He was trained by the owner of Zirkonzahn, Z Enrico Steger, who is one of the top dental technicians in Europe and the inventor of the manual milling m system. Today, he is the instructor on the manual milling system at the Zirkonzahn training facility in Atlanta, A GA and lectures all over the world on Zirconia and the manual milling system.

Prior to joining Zahn Dental in 2004, Grant was Director, Technical Services for Pentron Laboratory Technologies for over 24 years. He shares over 32 years experience in dentistry as a laboratory manager, educator, and research associate. He is a graduate of Los Angeles City College Dental Technology Program (1974). S S27 B Bruno D’Innocenzo, MDT, is an Italian born technician. He came to the United States about 17 years ago. He H acquired his Master Dental Technician degree by attending for 5 years the “Professional Institute for Artisanship A - Dental School Branch” in the city of L’Aquila, Italy in 1990. Upon coming to the United States, he h worked for 6 years with two crown and bridge laboratories in New Jersey. In 2000 Bruno joined Dentrex and a Captek in the capacity of Technical Sales Director and has trained and consulted with many laboratories across the U.S., Costa Rica and Europe in particular Italy and Spain. S02 S Michael M A. DiPaulo, CDT, is a 1971 graduate of the Mastbaum Technical Institute comprehensive dental laboratory l program in Philadelphia, PA. His 35 years of experience include a two and half year tour in the US N Navy as a general and laboratory technician in Washington DC. Michael is currently a Technical Specialist for D Dentsply Prosthetics. Michael managed the ceramics department of a large commercial laboratory for 10 yyears, and was also the owner and operator of his own ceramic studio for 15 years where he specialized in high-end esthetic restorations and implants. FF17 M Matt Gassel is the U.S. National Sales Director for Astra Tech’s laboratory channel. Mr. Gassel graduated with a B.S. in Marketing from Missouri State University in 1989 and has been involved in medical device Sales and M Marketing for 16 years. He joined Atlantis Components in early 2004 as one of the first regional managers and bbecame Atlantis’ first Director of Sales in late 2004. When Astra Tech acquired Atlantis in late 2007, Mr. Gassel aassumed the role of Region Manager, East, responsible for laboratory sales for Astra Tech in the eastern half of the U.S. and was subsequently promoted to National Sales Director in May of 2008.

BS, MS, graduated Brooklyn College City University of New York with a BS in Chemistry C 1964, Master Program. He created and developed manufacturing specifications for over 250 dental products p for AMERICAN DENTAL SUPPLY, INC. He also developed and implemented quality control procedures for f fine chemical raw materials and finished products. He prepared Good Manufacturing Practices training programs p for Quality Control and Production areas. S S19 TT.G. Hornischer Jr, CDT was the recipient of the NADL’s Excellence in Education Award and Merit Award for 22006. He is the general manager of Centric Dental Laboratory, a 25 person, full service dental laboratory iin Bullard, Texas. T.G. earned his degree in Dental Technology in 1979, and received his National Board Certification in 1981. Trevor Laingchild’s sense of a adventure has taken him on an international road in his profession as a third generation Dental Technologist. A formal Dental Education in London, England, he managed a Dental Laboratory in Germany and served as After Chief Dental Technician for an American Hospital in Saudi Arabia. Further experiences included, expanding his technical horizons whilst working in Norway, Scandinavia. F F16 T Tom Lake, AAS, MAAIP completed his degree in Dental Technology at the University of Kentucky. He is B Board Certified in Fixed Prosthodontics and received his Mastership from the American Academy of Implant PProsthodontics. In 2003, Tom’s recognition as a successful clinical lecturer was fulfilled by being charged to cconduct the Graduate Prosthodontic Program at the University of Florida, College of Dentistry. In 2007, Tom aadded his years of academic, clinical, and laboratory experience to Thayer Dental Laboratory’s vast reserve of dental laboratory experience. S29 S David Lesh, CDT, is founder and President of Dale Dental, Inc., America’s first dental lab exclusively for dental D llabs. David began his career in dental technology over 15 years ago working at his family-owned laboratory in i both technical and managerial capacities. He worked as a marketing director for a large north east dental laboratory l in addition to providing marketing consultation to other industries including internet technology and petroleum. p He majored in business management and afterwards perused continued education in the areas of marketing and advertising. David opened Dale Dental, Inc. in January 2000 in Richardson, Texas. F04 F Paul P Mancini, CDT, has developed a unique perspective on restorative dentistry during the past 25 years. He began b his dental technology education in the army at Fort Sam in Houston, Texas, in addition to obtaining a d degree in dental technology from Eli Whitney Technical School in Connecticut. He has served as Vice President o a large, full service laboratory, with all its challenges of dealing with clients, production, quality control, of p product development and training, as well as all the personnel management issues. In addition, Paul has 17 year experience owning his own laboratory. Paul is presently the owner/manager of DayStar Dental Inc., in Bolton Connecticut and works as a technical consultant to Sterngold. S13 S George G McIntosh, CDT is currently employed by Dentsply Prosthetics as a Technical Specialist. He has 40 4 years of diverse experience in the dental profession. He is a graduate of the US Navy Class “A” Dental Technician T School. George holds a AAS degree in Dental Laboratory Technology and is a CDT. He has worked as a a dental assistant, dental hygienist, in dental sales, and for 35 years as a dental lab technician. FF10 Michael Mortellite, CDT, is a graduate of Lyons Institute of Dental Technology and has over 20 years M eexperience in the art and science of dental ceramics. After graduating, Michael went to work for several ddifferent South Jersey Dental Laboratories honing his skills. In 1988, Michael opened MBM Dental Studio, of w which he is the owner and operator. MBM is a small high quality laboratory, which specializes in full mouth ffunction and reconstruction for doctors who were trained by Pankey and Dawson institutes. He also prides himself on excellent aesthetic restorative artistry as well. S S25 JJoachim Mosch was born in 1959, studied dental engineering and technology as well as international bbusiness. Mr. Mosch has been working for 18 years (for the last 11 years as general manager) at the European headquarters h of an American dental company before he started his own business (Primotec /Primodent) in the t year 2000. Mr. Mosch has published various articles on different dental subjects such as Light Cured Wax (the ( Metacon System), functional bite splint therapy using light cured splint materials (primosplint), welding techniques and laser. He also gives lectures on these subjects throughout the world. S20 S Keith Miolen, CDT, is the Technical Director / Educational Director at Craftsman Dental Lab in Beacon NY. He is K the t founder of the Craftsman Technical Institute in Beacon, NY. Mr. Miolen is on the Writers and Editorial Board oof Solutions Media, Publisher of GA Dental Practice. He has written a number of articles for leading dental ppublications, including Dental Lab Products, Insider Dentistry and the Journal of Dental Technology.
FF02 W William T. Mrazek, BS, CDT, is the owner of Mrazek Prosthodontics, Ltd., a small high-end laboratory in N Naperville, Illinois. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Illinois, and AAssociate of Science degree in Dental Technology. In addition to his 30 years of experience in the dental ttechnology profession, he is a regular contributor to LMT, and is on the editorial boards of PPAD and C Collaborative Techniques. S S10 C Craig Nelson, CDT, AAS studied commercial art and worked as a muralist restoring murals in gothic temples. H He has an associate of applied sciences (AAS) in dental technology from Texas State Technical Institute in Waco, W TX. Craig has been a certified dental technician for over 30 years and has been actively involved with several s dental manufacturers in the research and development of new products. He served 14 1 years as Senior Account Representative and Technical Trainer for 3M ESPE and currently works as their Laboratory L and Digital Ceramics Specialist. S03 S Robert R Posey, CDT, graduated from the National School of Health Technology in 1979. Bob has owned and ooperated his own dental laboratory, Posey Dental Lab Inc., in Langhome, PA since 1987 to present. Bob Posey iis certified in numerous implant systems, is an LD Pankey-Dawson graduate and his laboratory is LVI certified. H His laboratory was the beta lab for the introduction of Finesse porcelain in the United States and Europe. Bob PPosey has also lectured on Porcelain veneers since 1980 and he has presided over hands-on demonstrations on all ceramics in the US and Canada. F03 Chuck Reifer holds a BA degree in Business and Education from New York University. Chuck was part of a large home furnishings company for over 35 years, where he became the President and CEO. The company grew to over 250 million in sales and had 12 manufacturing facilities with over 3500 employees. In 1979, Chuck started to develop outsourcing relationships in China and after his retirement in 1995, he joined a major exporter of home furnishing products for the US market. In 2005, Mr. Reifer and his partners created the business model for Dentalle and in 2006, the lab facility in Beijing began manufacturing dental restoration for the US market.

FF15 Charlie Rivas, CDT, began his career in dental technology in 1986. Growing up in his father’s lab, Charlie C worked mostly with removable prosthetics throughout high school. He also worked for Technics Dental w LLaboratory while attending Lindsey Hopkins Technical education center, where he graduated after successfully ccompleting two years of training in dental technology. In 1995, he began working for Implant Technical SSupport, a German operated laboratory, where he received intensive training on implants, crown and bridge, attachments, milling and implant supported prosthesis. He is a Certified Dental Technician (CDT) and is currently the head of the technical support department at XPdent Corporation.
S S11, S23 M Martin Schmid, CDT is the Director of Education Services at BEGO. He is a practicing member of the lab ccommunity offering extensive experience with a great knack for teaching and extending his knowledge to oothers. Martin’s programs are often standing room only due to his solid reputation in the industry, and his eenjoyable lectures!
S26 S R. Max Schulze MDT, CDT, is the business / life coach to the dental laboratory industry. F03 Dr. Richard S. Sokol holds a DMD degree from Case Western Reserve Dental School, as well as a BA degree from the University of Michigan. His residency program and post-graduate studies were completed at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry. While in dental school, Dr. Sokol worked as a dental technician in a full service dental laboratory. After practicing dentistry for 28 years, Dr. Sokol moved to Florida where he became secretary for a publically-held dental corporation which had numerous dental clinics. Presently, Dr. Sokol is Vice President of Marketing for Dentalle and also serves as technical advisor.
FF18 G Gianni Storni, CDT, Technical Director-Rhein83, graduated 1985 from Villaggio del Fanciullo of Bologna Italy. There T he studied dental technology for 5 years before joining one of the most prestigious dental laboratories in i Italy, specializing in fixed and removable case design. In 1987, Gianni became a protégé of Mr. Ezio Nardi, N founder of Rhein83 srl, where he began designing a new concept of castable attachments. F F11 J Weisz, CDT, co-directs the UCLA Master Dental Ceramist Program, a full-time two-year institute dedicated Joe in i training ceramists the science and art of creating esthetic and realistic restorations. Jeff has lectured, trained and certified laboratories in various techniques, has aassisted manufacturers as an educator for pressing techniques and has been called on to troubleshoot for m major production labs nationwide. Since the early ‘90s, Jeff has continually been involved in product testing and the development of ceramic products and systems. FF06, S12 TThomas Zaleske, AS, has been a dental technician and laboratory owner for 21 years. Author, international llecturer dental laboratory and manufacturing consultant, Tom has been a familiar face on the lecture circuit ffor 4 years.
